  1. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 6, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Tito, what is that awful avatar? It comes up in a google image search for "Brian Anderson"
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ May 6, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He should have tried to add more speed and youth to this aging lineup, especially improving their lineup against LHP. Has Uribe really been that much better than last year? Maybe I'm just forgetting how much we sucked last year. At least when Hall returns, we can put him at 1b. Uribe's approach at the plate has been much better. He did add some help against LHP with Hall, and where were you going to add speed? The only positions where we offensive question marks going into the 2007 season were CF, LF, and SS. You said you wanted Pierre, but he isn't earing his $45 million this season with his current .289/.313/.328. Dave Roberts? .215/.277/.344
  3. Erstad has been an offensive upgrade over Anderson. I imagine Hall healthy would be an offensive upgrade over Widger/Alomar. Pods was playing better this year than 2006. Uribe is better this year than 2006. So how is it KW's fault that Konerko, Dye, Iguchi and Crede aren't hitting? Was he supposed to trade all 4 of them and bring someone else in?
  4. Just announced during the game. I wonder how much he got from them.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 6, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Neal Cotts has been lights out, but I kinda think that is due in part that no one in the NL has really seen him, and second time around the league he won't be so lights out anymore. Aardsma on the other hand, it doesn't matter. If he can mix up and locate the slider, that fastball is going to look like 105 mph to the hitters. And Vazquez, I am not to excted about because he sucked in ST, but he is doing good in the minors right now. Speaking of minor league relievers, when will Day get promoted? He is 2-1, with a 2.1-something ERA, but in 16+ innings, he has gotten 33 K's! Averaging 2 K's per inning. I really want to see his Slider because it sounds like a doozey. Where's he going to play? BTW, his name is spelled Vasquez.
  6. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ May 6, 2007 -> 01:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nobody is even talking about him. How good does that trade look with the Cubs right now? It looks great for both teams.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 5, 2007 -> 06:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> /mouths something about intangibles, hustle /mouths something about Erstad's numbers being skewed by the bad early start /mouths something about leaving this discussion /does So how come it's ok to spread the blame away from Erstad onto our other slumping players simply because Erstad had his own horrible slump?
  8. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 5, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe somewhere down the road the Sox can have a Dick Allen statue added to the outfield concourse. It would be done in the likeness of his Sports Illustrated cover. Would that do? Think the city of Chicago will approve of a statue with a cigarette in its mouth? They're banning smoking during plays.
  9. QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ May 5, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> thornton has NO pickup move hes really easy to read I heard he never gets any despite being a ball player.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly, he'd rather have Garland face the righty, Thornton the switch hitter, and then go to the bullpen. I'd much rather he just let the righty start the inning. I don't think his style of managing has worked in the last year and this season. With that low of a pitch count, I would've let Garland try to pitch over it. Have him build some confidence. Everytime he sends someone out there, and then immediately pulled it makes it look like he's making a mistake or second doubting himself.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's fine Iguchi, RBI's are overrated. Someone go punch Ozzie before he lets Garland start this inning. Garland only has 81 pitches. How has he looked the past couple of innings? People wanted Garland to stay in during the Detroit game.
  12. What's even funnier is how the Angels announcers recognize how he lost the ball in the lights immediately, yet Hawk and DJ said the "veteran" Erstad was "deeking the runners." LOL. The guy on third was going to score no matter what.
  13. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 5, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Cards seem just as snakebitten as the White Sox. It's all around the MLB. Hampton, Kris Benson, Harden, Wood, Prior, Reggie Sanders. OK no big surprises there. Garrett Anderson, Adam Loewen, Jim Thome, Clement, Pods, Hall, Westbrook, Cliff Lee, Kenny Rogers, Josh Johnson, Jennings, Schmidt, Piazza all spending time on the DL
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How does a 2-seamer break? Hey Santo....when they talk about career stats against a pitcher, do they include postseason stats? I don't think so. I just watched a video of a handicapper saying Garland is 0-3 in his last three starts against the Angels. That obviously doesn't include the ALCS. I think most announcers or whatever just use a regular database for matchups, for example I just searched to see Chris Widger's career numbers versus Eziquel Estacio, but it says he never faced him (he had a bases loaded walk in the WS.)
  15. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 5, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dye you f***ing blow. Please retire. Seriously dude, STFU. you offer nothing to this board. Who has that quote of titomb in their sig about never bashing the team again?
  16. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 5, 2007 -> 01:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> cintron is a joke at the plate. it's simply pointless. I had more confidence in royce clayton, and that's saying something. Question: has AJ Pierzynski thrown out a single runner attempting to steal this season? You didn't see last night's game obviously.
  17. At the end of the broadcast did it sound like Hawk was tired of making excuses for this team and is legitimately fed up like some of us have been for the past 2-3 weeks?
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 4, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep -- all 169 ABs? Really? Hah, you're clearly wrong about that comparison between Milledge and Anderson and yet you keep making the argument. You're a really funny guy. Yep it really was. You an I obviously have different opinions on minor leaguers as you put a lot of stock in rookie ball and A ball numbers, and guys Beane or Paul Depodesta have targeted. I'm am aware of different ballparks and what not, but I don't think they can be accounted for just by adjusting OPS. I also put more weight in AA performances over AAA performances. Different strokes for different folks. You go ahead and keep dreaming about how awesome it would be to develop someone else's problem minor leaguer, I'll take the established guy still contributing and moving him at a better market price.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 4, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He wanted Jaret Wright, but the Yankees came in at the last minute and trumped his offer. He wanted to trade for Jason Kendall but Billy Beane gave Pittsburgh something they wanted more. He wanted Vizquel which definitely would have meant no Iguchi. Vizquel still could play so it would have been interesting to see how that worked out. He was lucky Kaz Matsui was a bust or Iguchi would not have been signable. As you stated he didn't want AJ but Hawk et al talked him into it. And he's lucky Dye is a guy of his word and didn't bolt for the better offer he received before actually signing the contract, and he's lucky the other team didn't make the offer just a little sooner or he would have been SOL with JD. He was lucky, but on the other hand any team that wins a championship is lucky. Maybe its a case where KW's plan C or D is actually a lot better than plan A, but now with revenues being a little higher plan A has a better chance of being executed. I'm not buying all of that because there was only one source for Wright, and that was Gammons. You should also remember that Wright failed his first physical so it's no sure bet that the Sox would've still signed him. I recall Kendall rumors in 2004 after Olivo was gone, but nothing concrete before 2005. Just fantasy talk along with Mulder's and Hudson's name being attached to it. I wanted Vizquel, and there's no telling how this offense would have been with Vizquel instead of Iguchi. I imagine a big dip in power, but Omar is a better number 2 hitter and he would've been great behind the 2005 Podsednik. That Kaz Matsui comparison is a stretch as there wasn't much of a market for Iguchi. He should be lucky with Dye? How do you know Jermaine wouldn't have given the Sox a chance to match the offer like Buehrle is claiming for this year? IS KW Lucky that JD felt that the White Sox were "the team most likely to go to the World Series of the teams showing interest in him?"
  20. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 4, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Milledge's AAA park is a terrible hitting park (is it Newark?). I remember reading an article about minor league park effects, and adjusted for that his numbers were significantly better. Milledge is a much prospect than anyone in the Sox organization. ...and his major league stint was comparable to Anderson's. If you are a GM of an opposing team, would you trade an effective pitcher who is signed to a fair deal over the next 2.5 years for only a Brian Anderson with wrist problems and crappier clubhouse attitude? I didn't think so either.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 4, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well maybe you can get Contreras to remember to start throwing that 97 3/4 mph fastball that he was featuring. Or hell how about the 94/95 fastball to offset his splitter form the same arm angle. Drop down Contreras at the low 90s with hitters like the Indians quoted as saying he used to throw a lot harder is not great. ....and based on the results he obviously isn't pitching like he did against the Indians. 6 IP, 1 ER yet somehow he's too old, diminished, and lost his stuff. so what can we expect from him if he does regain his form? Ah who cares, let's just move him for a single minor leaguer because he costs money.
