He has still pitched exceptionally well on the road. Don't forget, our offense also plays at the Cell when our pitchers are on the mound too. Just not at the same time.
-
Freddy Garcia too. I couldn't imagine Freddy Coming to the south side for $27 million three years this offseason. Freddy.
-
Can he pitch?
-
Last season he tried to trade Magglio for Williamson and Nomar. He could've then turned Nomar into some pitching help. You can't fault KW for f***ing up the A-Rod to Boston trade. IIRC, last year's market wasn't as good as this year's market in terms of the talent being available, but the Mets, Reds and Yankees are totally f***ing up the costs for starting pitching this offseason.

Yeah, how about it! Stupid f***ing New York teams! :fyou :fyou

I will have ZERO faith in this organization if a single move isn't made during or right after the Winter meetings. Just once I would like to see what it would be like for the Sox to lose a draft pick. :rolly

Yeah I know. :headshake

I think Arizona will overpayfor him. KW also tried to get Odalis Perez last season, so let's that Williams signs this guy ASAP.

:fyou I do recall Cheat mentioning it in an another thread, and I couldn't believe it until I did a background check on Ryan, and looked at Minnesota's records at baseball-reference.com. The facts are the facts. Williams took over in 2001, the same year Cleveland won the division so I don't see how they were in a "dismantling" mode with a payroll of $91,974,979 and in 2002 they had a payroll of $78,909,448. They got off to a terrific start, but fell apart and traded Colon and by then Minnesota FINALLY got results after a 7 year rebuilding plan. The 2003 team was the first rebuilding year for the Indians with a payroll of $48,584,834 which didn't include Jim Thome. I don't think you can compare the mid 90's AL Central to the 2000's AL East. Yes neither the Twins or D-Rays spent as much as the leader, but the 2000 Yankees and 2000 Red Sox payrolls blow away any of the payrolls of the White Sox or Indians in the mid-90's. I didn't like KW until 2003 with the Colon trade. In 2003 he built a team for the World Series, not just to win the division, yet you can't get that through your head. Some "experts" called the Sox the best team in the AL, and KW felt that the 2003 team could've gone deep into the playoffs. Obviously he wasn't building a team that could only compete for the division. In 2004 he was asked if any of his minor leaguers were "untouchable," and he replied with "1917." That sure doesn't sound like he's not trying to win a WS, and I imagine if KW was trying to build a team to only win the division, he would've replied with "2000."

f***ing Gammons and Levine. They're both 0/2 for their "The Sox are close to signing player X" reports. :fyou Gammons :fyou Levine

Terry Ryan has been GM of the Twins since 1994. From 1994-2000 the Twins had 3 last place finishes and 4 fourth place finshes. THEY DIDN"T EVEN HAVE SINGLE WINNING SEASON, yet they kept the guy. Had you been owner of the Twins you would've fired Ryan in 1998 and still be in last place.

We need 5 Jon Garlands in the rotation but KW is too stupid to develop a cloning machine and JR is too cheap to provide Kenny with the finances to build one. :rolly :rolly :rolly
-
I don't. I want Vazquez. No more Berry/Barry f***ups.
-
That's because Cubs f***ing sucked, and now everyone is on the Cubs' bandwagon.
-
Do we really need a seperate thread about Al Levine and Esteban Yan becoming free agents?
-
Esteban Yan had a road ERA of 5.82 last season. :puke
-
Is there any way we can get Gordon with Vazquez? Maybe if the Yankees don't give us as much money for Vazquez.
-
I think I heard on MJ,H last night that KW would be on Tuesday's show.
-
Looking at the free agent market this year, it doesn't look like Contreras will be that bad at the price. He just needs to speed up his delivery. (See his last game against the Royals.) Could you imagine if we didn't trade for Garcia or Contreras? Our rotation would be Buehrle, Garland, and Grilli, so we would have to try and sign THREE free agent pitchers with this beast of a market. But I forgot, we would still have Reed and Olivo! :rolly :rolly :rolly

Does anyone have a scouting report on "Ben Franklin?" I heard the Yankees were more than willing to send him our way.
-
Yeah I get sick of hearing about Carl too. KW check with Showalter and some of his teammates in Texas, and they talked abot how great of a teammate he is. He was also a good teammate with the Sox in 2003 which influenced them to bring him back for 2004. BUT, he did lose custody of his kids for abuse because he thought he was just following the bible by not giving them dinner when they misbehaved. I'm not sure that's the exact story, but it's something along th lineslike that.

(RJ-Konerko-Garland)+Vizquel=16-8.75-3.4+4(Vizquel's money would've probably been deffered. Look at his contract with the Giants) =7.85 million

Nic Johnson was mentioned before (and it lead to a thread being locked) but this is from Peter Gammons. "According to ESPN's Peter Gammons, the Blue Jays and Nationals have discussed swapping Alexis Rios and Nick Johnson. Interesting if true. Considering that Johnson had more injury problems last season and is moving closer to free agency, he's probably not as valuable as Rios at the moment. Still, Johnson fits in better with the Blue Jays' offensive philosophy. Maybe something could be worked out if the Nationals throw in a prospect or even Tony Armas Jr."

I disagree with you on KW not having 5 starters going into the 2003 season. He had (2002 stats): Buehrle (19-12) Colon (20-8) Garland (12-12) Wright (14-12) Loaiza (9-10) penciled in the rotation for 2003 and before Loaiza, he tried to get Kenny Rogers, but JR wouldn't pony up the extra $1 million to get him (Rogers is also a client of Boras.) Wright was pitching through injuries, so there was talk about the Sox possibly getting Ponson, and were close to getting Weaver, but they refused to give up Neal Cotts for him. Just thinking of what could've happened with the 2003 season pisses me off. Would you compare it to the South Side Hitmen of 1977?

I don't know how credible the source is, but aparrently Troy Glaus is going to sign with the D'Backs. Link
