  1. Rex...I can see your point. There are lots of "fans" sitting in the bleachers at Wrigley who aren't even aware that there's a ballgame going on. I don't want to discuss this any further. My entire point is (and has been) that whatever ownership has done since taking over the team HAS NOT WORKED! It is time to develop an alternate strategy. When I was asked what I would do, my answer was simple...identify the "holes" in the ballclub, and fill them WITH THE BEST PLAYERS AVAILABLE WITH WHICH TO DO SO. How does that make me negative? Unhappy? Miserable? You know the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."? Guess what? It's broke! It has been broke. It's time to fix it. Peace.
  2. Way to ignore the question, AGAIN! :headshake
  3. I think you have it backwards, if/when the Sox make the committment, the fans will come. How do you convice friends and neighbors to go, if the product is average, at best?
  4. Since the Sox will probably keep him, I hope you're right.
  5. I understand whay you're saying; I cannot disagree. But, since 2000 we haven't even sniffed the playoffs, we have to change our strategies. What we've been doing hasn't worked. Some may say I'm whining again, but, facts are facts. You can scream "fiscal responsibility" all you want, but, fiscal resposibility hasn't gotten the Sox anywhere. Someone once said something to the effect that "the sign of insanity is repeating the same procedure over and over and expecting different results.". IMHO, the Sox have been guilty of this since current ownership took over.
  6. Because the Sox "think small". We could have them both. We will save $12-14 million from Ordonez's contract, $5 million from Valentin, if we dump the Alomars, $3-6 million, that's at least $20 mill to play with.
  7. I am in favor of having Beltran AND Lee.
  8. I agree. Also, keep in mind though, wasn't LaDuca on the Marlins with Ozzie?
  9. Willie seemed very tentative on the base paths to me. It seemed like he was scared to mess up.
  10. Let's suppose we trade Konerko (and a prospect) to LA for disgruntled RF Shawn Green (who I understand JR is very fond of, and has tried to obtain in the past) and a pitching prospect. Then we can either play Green at 1B, teach Lee to play 1B and put Green in the OF, or Frank at 1B, and DH either Green or Lee. Just a thought.
  11. I agree. But we can sign Beltran, and trade Konerko instead of Lee. An outfield of Lee, Beltran and Rowand would be pretty formidable.
  12. Has he improved enough to the point where you don't think the Sox can get better at 3B?
  13. Tex...I find it ironic that you criticize my posting on the UN and Sudan, for being long winded, yet post the above "article". What's even more ironic is that you do so in a thread titled "Favoritism"; something of which you are definitely guilty.
  14. Agreed, but anything would have been better than what the Sox threw out there.
  15. Okay, I apologize. Saying someone "sucks" is juvenile. I'll try to be more like some of the other posters and NEVER criticize the Sox, or their ownership. I'll just let the team's "success" speak for itself.
  16. It's too bad you can't be more consistent with your criticisms, Tex. "I4E = Bad/Wrong/Stupid/Racist, etc." "Anyone who disagrees with him = Good/Right/Intelligent, etc.," You must be a Republican; you have no tolerence for anyone who's opinions differ from your's.
  17. We were discussing the UN, and how it discriminates against certain countires. It just so happens that Israel is the best example. It also is no coincidence that the Sudanese and Israelis are victims of radical-Islamic terrorism. Can you see the connection yet, Tex?
  18. Missed the point again. I was just pointing out why the UN, as an entity, is useless. Once again, I find it amusing that when "someone" posts his far-left, anti-Israel opinions, and posts an article from a news source or website that nobody has heard of, you have no problem with it. But if I post an article, that cites reputable sources, with names, dates, etc., you dismiss it summarily. You do not hide your biases too well, Tex.
  19. Thank you very much. Unless I added wrong, we were 11-25 in starts by our #5. IF 9 (big "if") we were 18-18, we'd have been right in the hunt. We'd have been 89-73 (ironically the same W/L as the cubs), and 1.5 games behind Minnesota.
  20. I have not seen Escobar play, but if he wasn't good enough to play for either of the 2 or 3 (or more?) teams he was on prior to coming here, how good could he be. As for Timo, all he'll ever be is a bench player. If he can accept that role...cool.
  21. Facts get in the way of your opinions too, huh? :headshake
  22. I understand that. But, out of curiousity, do you (or anyone else) know what the Sox' W/L record was in 2004 in games started by our #5 starter?
  23. Or we can trade for Jason Kendall. (Isn't Mike Metheney a FA?) (I'd love to have LaDuca on the Sox!!!)
