QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) True... but we should be winning the division! Give it time dude. Give it time. -
QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) Izzy says Pujols' return is imminent Trainer, skipper more cautious in appraising slugger's progress By Conor Nicholl / MLB.com ST. LOUIS -- Jason Isringhausen said Albert Pujols, sidelined with a right oblique strain, could return to the Cardinals in the Detroit series starting June 23. "We should get Albert back in Detroit," the Cardinals' closer said after Sunday's game. "That should help take the load off Scott [Rolen] and Juan [Encarnacion]." Cardinals head trainer Barry Weinberg offered a sarcastic response when told of Isringhausen's comment. "If Izzy says it, then it must be gospel. He is progressing," Weinberg said. "He is satisfied today and took some ground balls and played catch, did some running and hit in the cage. What we will do is repeat it tomorrow during the off-day. He will start hitting off the coaches on Tuesday." Weinberg said there is no date set for Pujols' return. The first baseman could be activated as soon as Tuesday. [More in URL] That would really rock if he missed the White Sox but comes back in time for their series with Detroit.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) In all seriousness.... Melt it down. The sad thing is, if the TribCo had a brain in their heads, they would punt on 2006, and send Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Howry, Eyre, Dempster, and company out of Chicago for the highest biddings on the open market. With as few teams ready to sell, and the Cubs having a huge number of "name" players, they could load up for the future the way the Indians did when they shipped out guys like Bartolo Colon. The Cubs already have a ton of guys in the farm system, not to mention an MVP canditate in Derrick Lee, but thankfully for Sox fans, nothing like this will ever happen. As someone who is involved in business and dealing with money I dont see how you can't recognize the total genius of the Tribune company. A blind man could see it in a minute. They can put together a team that is UTTERLY horrible yet they sell out every single game, charge the folks a small fortune for wattery beer, shake down the neighbors for royalties and sell a fortune in tee shirts, caps and stuff. They are making a metric s***-ton of money off this team even though they suck donkey balls. Why on earth would they change anything?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Yup, Ann Coulter is in the news again. Oh wait, you meant the other one. There's a lot of them around these days.
-
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) They might also consider learning to play defense. How bout that bullpen of theirs. They make Mark Prior look like a cy young candidate.

The attention whore strikes again. :puke

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Fascinating look at the DHS from the NYT...according to their report, over 90 of the guys who originally started off as officials within the DHS when it was created have now gone on to careers in private industry where they're doing billions of dollars of business with that department. That kind of thing has been going on with the military for years and years. Troops get out, then take a high paying contractor job doing the same job they did as a soldier for twice the money.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) If Mariotti is a hineybird, what nick-name should this guy be? Hineypole?

I know he's been on the DL with that oblique strain. Anyone know if he's gonna be around for the Sox series?

QUOTE(G&T @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) The Tigers, BTW, have struck out 508 times this season. That's most in the AL by a lot. The Indians are second with 462. I doubt these numbers are updated to reflect today's games, but it doesn't really matter. That's one of those stats that does not bode well for the Tigers. What that tells me is that when they face a good staff they get handcuffed and they fatten up on the bottom feeders like the Flubbs. -

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) Exactly. Right now, the Tigers are on pace to win 105 games. Do you think that a team with mediocre defense, no bench, little ability to manufacture runs, and only one veteran starter who has put up solid numbers of the course of a full season is going to be playing at this level down the stretch? Neither do I. Like Ive been saying all along...........The Tigers are gonna fade like a cheap sweater. Only a question of time. -
Its gonna be a great series all around. Out of all the teams in MLB the Cards are one team I respect like few others ( include the Astros on that list also ). Im really looking forward to seeing some great baseball. That being said............ RIP EM!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(G&T @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) This is the best the team has played this year, and awesome to see. I'm one of those who had little faith in Garland, especially against a team that can hit like the Reds. Congrats on an awesome day for him and to the Sox. For once I wish the Cubs didn't suck so much, but the Tigers can't play crappy teams forever. No sense in complaining about their schedule. They are playing the exact same teams we are in Interleague play. Its just that they are clicking every bit as well as we are. -

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Yah, its pretty funny. And apparently Jeremy Piven just yelled "Hug it out, b****es" during the 7th inning stretch. I got WGN on and I heard that. Can you guys hear him slurring his speech? I think hes totally wasted. Talking about a hovering spaceship where celebrity deals are getting signed. LMFAO!!!!!! MAKE IT 8 HOMERUNS IN 1 DAY DO YOU f***ING BELIEVE IT?!?!?!?!?! 12-2 NOW. -

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) It appears that we are finally clicking on all cylindars. Even the bullpen is looking good as of late. Like WCSox said, if we continue to play like this, everything will take care of itself. Happy Jon Garland Day! If it weren't for that embarassment of a game against Texas, I'd say without it doubt. Even when we won 8 in a row back in April, I don't think we were playing this well. We're hitting on all cylinders at just the right time. We have tough series against STL and Houston coming up before we get to pick on the Flubbs and Pittsburgh. -
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Rusch's back apparently tightened up on him after his start on Friday. The left-hander, who is 2-7 with a 7.80 ERA in 15 games, including eight starts, said the problem was minor. "It's better to take a little more time, especially because we're in a bind for pitching," Rusch said Sunday. "I think it'll be beneficial rather than try to do something in a short period of time, which would leave us short on the mound." Cubs manager Dusty Baker said Rusch has been battling back spasms for a while. "It's something that kind of nags you but doesn't really hurt," Baker said. "You're trying to be a man about things and you don't want to complain about things that could be minor in some people's eyes. It's been bothering him for a while. It could happen on a bad bed on the road, a pitch. When it comes to back stuff, I don't think anybody's figured out why or how." I would say that Prior was gonna loan him his throwing towel but I think he's gonna be needing it again here soon.

QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) Excellent all-around. This team is on fire! Too bad the Cubs are abysmal. Ahh f*** it. We all knew the Tigers were going to destroy the Flubbs. Its fun to watch Prior get bombed like he did today. We'll make up some ground another day. Just enjoy watching the Tigers welcome the Flubbs to the suck for now. -
