  1. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) I think Hawk is a joke, honestly. Fans tell me to take him with a grain of salt but not for over 2 hrs for over 100 games a year. The majority of his calls, I dislike (including He Gone and You can put it on the board). I think Hawk is just a pull string doll at this point, Dj pulls the string and Hawk says one of his 15 catchphrases. During the long stretches of silence, DJ is changing the batteries. Also, White Sox fans have a reputation of being idiots (obviously, I'm not saying I agree since I am a fan) and Hawk certainly doesn't help that rep out. I think Hawk would only be good in situations when Berman is good: 2 minutes at a time, once a week. completely agree, except for the idiot sox fans part.
  2. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) Thousands of people use 'Hawkisms' every day. I hardly think he or the sox give a s*** what you or a few others...(probably a couple hundred or less) think. He has coined more baseball phrases then most announcers combined. A lot of things in baseball ARE self induced. There are good pitchers that jam hitters and there are times hitters swing for something specific and jam themselves. That is self induced and he says so. He also says when the oppostion pitcher throws a good pitchers pitch to get a guy out. He does give Ozzie a lot of credit....not as much as you are hinting at, but he does and guess what....the sox are in first place and have the best record in baseball so it's well deserved. He usually mentions Ozzie when the team comes back...and he should....The manager is usually in charge of keeping the players in the game and believeing they can overcome any deficit. The reason he is saying 'stretch stretch' is because it probably isn't a homerun. It's more like a 50-50 chance. It's gonna be close and he knows it...he's asking for it to get outta there...is that so wrong?? Do you honestly think that because of Hawk saying something, the ball is staying in the park?? Do you want him to say 'stretch' on sure thing homers...so then you can b**** about him saying 'stretch' when it's already going out of the park. I hear people b**** about that too. Fact is, if you don't like him you will find anything to b**** about....if you do like him...you'll overlook things like, where the ball actually lands when it's hit deep and realize he wants it out of there just as much as you do. Yeah Hawk is biased. I like it biased, I want it biased. He doesn't point out every single mistake the guys make, but he'll say 'he didn't get the job done right there' 'he didn't take any pitches' 'he had him 0-2 and played around with him and lost em' He'll point out mistakes...he doesn't call players dumbasses and s***heads when they make a mistake, like the people on this board, but he'll generally point it out. Long live the Hawk!! DJ has gotten better since he started, but I would hardly call him a good color or PBP guy. i know things are self-induced, but does he really have to say that phrase every single game? i don't think so. and yes, he does give a ton of credit to ozzie, but its like during the middle of game, trying to slight jerry manuel. that's what i don't like, it's like he does it more to insult jerry than to praise ozzie, real tough guy subtly rippin on him when he's gone. also, i do believe hawk does curse the hard hit balls cause they look like they're homers easy and then for some reason they die when he says "stretch", look for it. bias can be good but he goes way too far w/ it.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) Watching Pablo Ozuna play third base everyday makes me long for Joe Crede back and healthy ditto
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) s*** like that can get you banned! 1/2 of me says it should be green, 1/2 says it shouldn't lol
  5. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I do hate it when he says "he JUST JUST missed that one" and its a shallow fly to CF. same here
  6. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) I love hawk mostly for the reason that he is such a homer and that he loves the team so much. To bad that if we make the playoffs we wont be able to hear him. Screw you fox! :finger not hearing hawk is a good thing.
  7. i used to like him, but his stupid repetitive hawkisms are getting annoying. always talking about "everything is self-induced" and prolly the worst part is when there's a deep fly ball, he always does his "stretch, stretch" call and it RARELY is a homer, maybe 9 out of 10 times he says it, its just an out, it's like a curse, does anyone else notice this? he also tends to be too much of a homer and thinks he knows everything cause he's been around for 43 years. and whenever something good happens, he has to mention how ozzie was somehow involved. and the list goes on and on. also, does anyone notice how dj does a much better job of technical analysis w/a different partner on sat. games of the week than w/ hawk? i think that says a lot about hawk. personally, i'd like to see dj stay(brings some comic relief and solid analysis), hawk can go and bring in steve stone, someone w/ knowledgeable, unbiased analysis. also, the "put it on the board" is getting kinda old.
  8. i also thought it was a trade bait lineup. but the way ozzie reasoned the lineup in his pre-game interview w/ rooney yesterday was that he wanted to get the two lefty bench players some playing time cause having to face two lefties this weekend, the all-star break, and two lefties again next week will limit their time in the near future and might become stale.
  9. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) The Price is Right theme song. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) "Kickstart My Heart" Motley Crue. that song would get the whole friggin' place rocking... QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 07:30 AM) I'd come put as starting pitcher to the song "Supercalafradgalisticexpialadocious" by Mary Poppins! awesome picks on the price is right and poppins, that'd be hilarious. kickstart my heart works really well w/ the wolves as they skate onto the ice.
  10. i'd prolly come out to drowning pool's bodies, awesome song.
  11. tired of hawk. whenever he says stretch, it's rarely a home run, it's like a curse.
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Here is one thing Bajenaru and Jenks have in common: They both walk guys at a rate of one every other inning. Do you guys think maybe, just maybe, KW wants guys who provide a totally different look (stuff wise) on the pitching staff? All the starters have totally different styles. Bajenaru has the power slider, much like Vizcaino and Hermanson. Jenks is a 100% totally different look, he has the monster fastball and the huge big breaker curve. No one on the Sox staff has that, particularly in the pen. That makes it tougher for opposition hitters to adjust. This is exactly why I believe Jenks got the call vs. Bajenaru, but call me crazy ... after you think about it for a few minutes. good points
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) Exactly. Every time we bring some AAA pitcher up, he sucks out loud and he soon has no more trade value. I have a question. What will everyone here do if Baj comes up and falls flat on his face? good point
  14. contreras, mccarthy, marte, vizvaino, and sometimes garland.
  15. twas watching cltv sports page tonite and they had a guy on from sporting news radio and he said one of his colleague hosts reported that the white sox were reportedly getting schmidt. he said they asked one sox official and the official said it was a done deal and they asked another sox official and he was more like its 50/50. after revealing this, the hosts of sports page went on to discuss who they might be trading for schmidt. speculated maybe 1 of frank/everett but none of em wants that to happen(me either, esp. everett) and also said it wouldn't make sense. i could see maybe contreras being moved for him in a package. but the sporting news guy seemed pretty sure(and enthusiastic) it will happen.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) Bump. After an 8-2 week against Hornswoggler I'm making my run. Now I'm only 2 GB and I've got Toasty this week. hello
  17. notes from saturday's games sounds like crede's situation in oakland, was that the same ump that called it in oakland? i didn't know this on yesterday's game, guillen got lucky they came back to win. he never shoulda sent out freddy in the 8th, esp. w/ the lack of work our bullpen has had, esp. hermanson, coulda brought cotts in, and freddy ended up giving up a run in that inning. also, i thought everett had an awesome ab in the 9th yesterday. first 2 pitches, he was trying to jack the ball out of the park. w/ 2 strikes, he shortened his swing, layed off some tough pitches up, battled back, and helped position us for the win. but guillen has got to start learning cause those types of things will haunt him later on. quotes after the game
  18. QUOTE(Big Hurt Way Back @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) There is no way we should even consider trading him or ever leting him go until he retires. He is the reason many fans have stuck with the White Sox. He won 2 MVPS in the early nineties and led this team to success. He is headed to the HAll of FAme and jut to make noi doubt he is gonna reach 500 home runs while hes at it. HE is sitting at 440 right now. He is still an elite hitter. Right now he is 7 for 21 batting .333 and has 4 homeruns already. He needs to stay a white sock. ON the other hand we do not need to get rid of carl everrett either. I think he has realized that he isnt gonna play every day. ITs late in his careeer but still is a very good hitter. We need a good bat off the bench and he is it. I think he wants to stay here and realizes the potential this team has. KEEP THEM BOTH THERES PLENTY OF ROOM IN CHICAGO FOR BOTH OF THEM!!! well said
  19. good points, that's what i was thinking b4 the game, cause aj tends to be more emphatic in making him get it together. plus widger also works well w/ buerhle, so he coulda played sunday and aj yesterday. also, why is konerko hitting behind frank, shouldn't the better hitter, everett, hit cleanup? and crede should ALWAYS hit 9th, at least uribe has a plan. crede just waves his long, loopy swing @ everything. ozzie's lineups really do suck.
  20. i heard the sox outrighted RHP Kris Honel to AA reducing the # of guys on the 40 man roster to 39. just wondering if this means anything.
  21. i dunno, i think hawk's pic & description are pretty funny.
  22. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Once again -- "a classic slugger, Carlos Lee". This idea that we traded Rob Deer is absurd. Carlos has decent speed, draws walks, and hits for average. He's a good all-around hitter, not "a classic slugger". The Sox learn that if you say something often enough, it becomes true? .305 avg, 30+ hrs, round 100 ribbies and THAT's not a classic slugger? then i dunno what is. plus he was prolly our best hitter last year.
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) I also think the radar gun was sketchy. Polittes first couple pitches never reached past 91 MPH, then he threw a 94 MPH fastball, then back down. I dont believe the numbers they put on TV much anyways. thanx for the correction, i thought i noticed that, guess i forgot about it.
