  1. i guess that could be why his fastball wasn't so fast last nite. i also have seen him shaking his arm. i really hope he's healthy and gets back to old form. even w/ cotts pitching good, not so sure i'd want him as the top lefty in the pen. might need to look for another.
  2. Does anyone know what happened to marte?
  3. i admit i was one of those guys saying his signing was a mistake and he should be traded. but i gotta give him props for the way he's coming back, hopefully his d gets better w/ more confidence too. i also like his recent sneaky steals.
  4. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) maybe... but the way things are going... maybe he will be huge in middle relief edit: not saying he's awful, but he's starter #5 of 5 stuff-wise i totally disagree. he will be a huge part of the sox in the postseason as a starter, which is the biggest reason they wanna keep him healthy the whole season. he has so much invaluable experience winning it all, nobody on the sox has as much experience as him. always helps to have a guy like him. he knows what it takes to win under pressure. the key is keeping him healthy.
  5. i dunno why everyone hates on timo. he distracts pitchers(and yes i know he can't run well), has a strong arm, is a team player, one of the few guys that CAN actually bunt(how many times has he had a bunt base-hit w/ the bases loaded?), fundamentally sound on a team w/ out many of these types of players that knows how to play the game right, and he was without a doubt our MOST clutch hitter last year(hit .397 w/ RISP, .412 w/ RISP & 2 OUTS, .444 w/ bases loaded). this year not as good, but it's tough to find your stroke as a role player. he just needs some time, defense is at least average, not his fault ozzie put him @ 1B, but that just shows you he's a team player. and they always show him on tv in the dugout w/ the guys having fun, seems like a lot of his teammates like him, and like they say chemistry is important. having said this, i understand we need another 1B, and he might be the odd man out w/ all our OF's but he is a very good and serviceable player.
  6. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) These are all valid points, but the truth is, Ozzie doesn't take his orders from the media. Criticism is part of the game. Brantley can say what he wants, but it's meaningless. Regardless of what we fans or the media think, Ozzie will manage the way he sees fit. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but by slamming Ozzie, we are also slamming KW. Kenny did not extend Ozzie's contract because he thought Ozzie was incompetent. I have to assume quite the opposite. Now, you can take it a step further and say KW is an idiot GM, but I have much more faith in him than that. Of course, time will tell. what you said is true but i kinda think kw was forced into keeping him w/ his popularity. basically, ozzie's too popular(and relatively cheap) to not sign, esp. w/ the lack of fan base we already have. kw's mistake was signing ozzie from day 1, shoulda gone w/ a manager w/ experience. i almost would prefer manuel. maybe i would.
  7. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) I agree. I'll say this. Ozzie is one hell of a motivator and player person. I think he would make a better bench coach though. He's been making bad decisions for some time. 3 pitchers in one inning(Marte, Politte, Cotts) in the 3rd game of the year with a 3 run lead. yes that was another horrible game. notice how since that game that vizcaino had to suck it up, it looks like he gained weight and hasn't been the same. for the most part, relievers should pitch an inning per outing. none of this multiple pitchers per inning, if it's not necessary when they're getting the job done. i also had a similar idea on ozzie. hire a real tactically sound manager and keep ozzie as the team motivator, perfect role.
  8. First off, Brantley had a point. Even from last year, I knew Ozzie was one of the worst strategic managers in all of baseball. I hoped it'd get better w/ more experience but obviously not. Ozzie is lucky he didn't get ripped MORE for leaving buerhle in the 8th, no less the 9th. I don't care how little pitches he threw. Marte and Hermanson have been severely underused, leading to their recent subpar performances. Brantley is right on and should be commended. Also, today on ESPNews he(Brantley) said if he could pick any staff to have, he'd pick the twins, pen and starters. Also right there. He also managed to sneak in a comment, saying he might take the sox staff, but he jsut doesn't think the staff is being managed properly. I'll take it a step further. Ozzie cannot manage the TEAM properly, as shown by starting timo at first for the first time in 6 years just to give paul a day off, A DAY BEFORE AN OFF-DAY, that's just plain stupid. he coulda at least used the excuse of trying to keep timo sharp, but he wanted paul to relax. cost us 2 runs w/ that error. there should be more analyts criticizing ozzie's lack of smarts. before ozzie makes decisions based on his "gut feeling", he should use the bathroom to make sure he doesn't confuse these "gut feelings" w/ something else. p.s. i do agree w/ ozzie's using of walker cause he has to use em eventually and he was decent b4 it, so i do have some support for him.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) When Neal has gotten work he has been solid. Nothing great or special, but solid. I haven't looked at it, but it sure seems to me like at least most of his wild outings have come after long layoffs. exactly my thinking on cotts. he's solid when he gets regular work. dunno why ppl hate him so much. he does have control issues but even a-rod has said he has the sneakiest fastball in the league, good tool to have. overall numbers are solid. if ozzie would stop overworking the starters when its not necessary (such as buerhle monday, trying to get him a CG, when he pitched 9 innings just last week against the same team), guys like him would be sharper. hermanson hasn't pitched in like a week, and b4 monday, marte hadn't pitched in like 5 days. ozzie needs to keep the bullpen sharp, only way to do that is getting em some regular work. i'm out
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) Who would be the odd man out Wille Harris, Ozuna, Ross Gload..... and than someone else has to go down again when Frank comes back. i'd send down ross, he hasn't been playin too good. i'm out
  11. also ozzie should first go to the bathroom b4 acting on a "gut feeling", just to make sure he hasn't confused it w/ a bowel movement.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) - Just as easily as we could have swept this series, we could have easily been swept by the Indians. - Ozzie can't have the same patience this year with Shingo as he did w/Koch last year. Shingo was great last year, but it's not like he's a young man. All the AL has seen him and his trick pitches. - Against lhp, I think Rowand should be batting 3rd. He's a stud vs lefties, and Everett typically struggles against lhp. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 05:05 PM) Ozzie was quilty of overmanaging today with using his entire pen, when it really wasn't necessary. It's weird that he only allows pitchers to face 1 hitter, but leaves Shingo in to allow 3 home runs. He blew through his entire bullpen and Vizciano had to take one for the team. I'm not a fan of Ozzie as a manager, but I don't think he's dumb, and I'm sure he has learned something from this game. Taking 2 out of 3 is a positive first step. i agree w/ both you guys. essentially, ozzie cost us the game today and i'll take it a step further. i have not been impressed w/ how ozzie pinch-hits for players and how he puts relievers in and when. had he saved at least 1 guy(but really 2 or 3), we MIGHT have been able to hold off the indians till we scored in the extras but the tired vizcaino had to take it for the team. when you have only a 3-run lead against the indians in the 7th w/ shingo as your closer and cotts and politte pitching, you CANNOT waste all of your bullpen to get them some work. they can easily put up 3 runs against our guys in 3 innings. i do think ozzie is dumb, overmanages, all that stuff. sad thing is i firstguess him, not second-guess. i like him as a motivator but that's all, we shoulda kept manuel or hired some veteran manger who knows what he's doing and then just hire like a clubhouse motivator. ozzie's managing skills do not impress me and needs to understand that lefties do not always have to face lefties and viceversa. disrupts pitchers' momentum and all that stuff, let em finish the inning unless they're really off. if we do make the playoffs, a burnt-out bullpen will not do us any good.
  13. The Cell: A Pitcher-friendly park? i never knew they had plans to move back the fences.
  14. good points he makes in his last 2 answers. also good to see bonds being defended. everett knows how good that guy is.
  15. Update on Frank www.yahoo.com www.fanball.com
  16. yes garland is important and thanx for all the info.
  17. pretty smart by ozzie to do that, i never thought of it like that.
  18. i heard dj say real quick that he had a contusion on his biceps. any more news on garland?
  19. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) This quote makes me laugh... Yes Carlos, Podsednik ran on that sac fly attempt by Willie because the Sox wanted to mess around with you, not because they wanted to score the run. :rolly Carlos sure has a big ego. :headshake QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Lee is becoming a real whiner isn't he? QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) It sure seems like it to me. He is turning into Maggs Part 2. Does anyone think Marte actually hit Carlos intentionally? All I've heard all spring is how they want Marte to go inside on righties so he doesn't struggle with them like he did last season. As a result, occasionally he is going to hit some batters. what the hell are you guys talkin about? did you see how far that fly ball by willie actually went? it barely went past the infield. i dunno if joey(cora) wanted to show pods was better than c. lee, but c. lee has a strong arm and was a pretty easy throw(and short). or maybe its cause joey has been cold this spring making bad decisions. also didn't c. lee thank the white sox yet again? i agree w/ the guy w/ the ron burgundy profile pic. it did look like marte did throw at him, just w/ his arm angle and everything. c.lee is much more of a class act than maggs. i'm out
  20. ditto hey chisoxfan14, i'm guessing your a wolves fan by the d-mac pic. i'm also a fan of em(hawgood rules!) but not of mac anymore cause of his selfish penalties. what do you think the chances are for the wolves winning the cup? i personally think they don't have the right work ethic.
  21. just saw on comcast that rowand was in a single A game today(to work on a hip flexor injury) and got hit by a pitch on the shoulder. he now has a contussion, dunno what that means and that's all they said on it.
  22. i like him to back-up uribe and crede
  23. as mcgwire said, "i wanna focus on the positive, not the negative." garland is an innings eater, he is not an ace, which is why he ain't getting that type of money. he pitches according to his salary. more consistent than contreras. stop looking at him to be an ace, he's more of a lower end guy, and frankly there's nothing wrong w/ that. see him for what he is. i'm out
