QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) It definately can be an issue, but in many cases it is made into an issue in cases where it should not be. This is one of those cases. I agree that the race card does not apply in this issue. And I do think that Scoop is wrongfully applying the race card here. I was just responding to the comment of race not being an issue in sports. Maybe not so much here, but its out there. For instance, while we do have an African-American GM, he is only one of a couple minority GM's in the Major Leagues. Now, I have no idea if this means that minorities are missing out in these positions because of their skin color, but with the reality being as it is, it certainly is an issue that has raised concerns. My point is, valid or not, the race issue exists.

QUOTE(Benson&Rexage @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) These guys are both jackoffs. Sports is one thing in our society in which race is really not an issue. You have blacks, whites, latins, asians, and other ethnic groups playing as one. these two turds are just trying to come up with a story. Its not basketball season so Scoop doesnt know what to write about and the White Sox are good and the Cubs are bad so Marioti has nothing to write about so thats why stupid s*** like this is written. Um, I'm pretty sure that race is an issue in sports, as it is everywhere else. Take the NFL for instance: Based on the complete lack of minority coaches, it is expected that a minority be interviewed for a coaching vacancy. In the NBA, age limits have been criticised for being racist because they mostly affect inner-city black athletes. Now, I don't want to get into who is right or wrong in instances like this, but to say that "race is really not an issue" in sports would be incorrect. It may not be as evident in sports as some other areas in society, but its definitely an issue.

He shouldn't be suspended, but the league usually will at least fine a player if they can prove that the pitcher was intentionally throwing at the batter. And Buehrle sure didn't hide it very well. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets diciplined in some form. Still B.S. though.

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Arguing balls and strikes. Ozzie was yelling from the dougout and he threw him out. A little face-to-face yelling, but that was it.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) I never knew the M and B thing. It reminds me how when I was a kid, I always thought that old Expos logo spelled "elb" in lower case. It was only many years later that I became aware their logo was actually the letter 'M' and suddenly alot of things made sense. Yah, I used to think it was "elb" as well. Had no idea what it meant. At one point, I was convinced that it stood for "Expos Le Baseball". You know, cause of the strong French contingent in Montreal. This probably explains why my parents used to think that I had mental problems. -
Well, I'm having trouble finding a list of all the banned substances, but this article offers a few: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/bal-raf...la-sports-front

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) MLB has said they have tested postive for Steroids. Yah, I think these are pretty specific tests. What these tests are looking for, I don't think you can get out of something you bought at a GNC. I may be wrong though.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) I'll tell you what .. the very last thing we need is for this to happen to a Sox player. Don't be too smug about this issue. Ya never know. Until a positive test comes up, I'll assume that all our guys are clean. But, since there has been a bunch of cases of steroid use from guys who you'd never expect, I wouldn't be surprised by anything.

I'd say that IRod would be next. Depends on how recently he's taken them. It is becoming increasingly evident that everybody that was outed in Canseco's book were indeed users. The latest news on Palmiero only gives me more reason to believe that Jose wasn't lying about IRod either.

Man Soo Lee! I know, he's not a player. But still...

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) what sad is that as of right now, if we dont gain any ground on minny/cle for the next month and a half, we would clinch on the day where theres no TV If it came down to that game, I'd like to think that the Sox would do all they could to make sure it was televised. But I don't know how these things work.

For those that missed today's game....

I love Hawk's rants. Seriously though, I was right with Hawk on this one. The only reason an ump has to throw out somebody is if a situation had gotten uncontrollable. Fact of the matter was, no warning had been issued, and the situation had ended with the Surhoff beaning. Surhoff, knowing that this kind of stuff is part of baseball, took it like a professional and walked straight to first base, without even giving a glance towards Buehrle. So my question is, was it really an uncontrollable situation? Was this really a situation that deemed an ejection? Of course, you don't want a bean ball war to continue, and all Gorman had to do to put an end to it was to warn both benches. Problem solved. Instead, Gorman made it a bigger deal than it actually was. Hawk was right: It was an inept call from an inept umpire. Thankfully, the bullpen held down the fort the rest of the way. -
QUOTE(Da Sox @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 03:42 AM) why did you delete my cloning post? It was probably deleted to save you the wrath that you'd receive for posting it. Here's a friendly tip for the future: Around here, if you want to start a thread, make sure it is either relevant, or something worth discussing. If you want to make a general post like this, there is a place for it: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28354 This isn't a criticism. Just offering some advice.

Well, if Sele continued to put up stats like that, I don't see how Adkins could do any worse. No thanks.

I've been one of the few that thinks people have been a little too hard on Timo. I don't think he's great or anything more than an average player at best, but he's got some big hits over the past few years. For a backup outfielder, I think he's been alright.

Now I think I will check and see if there are still any tickets left for this Friday's game! ...and you wanna be my latex salesman. 15 games in first. This makes me happy.

The people here who are disappointed with KW...

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:37 AM) And, I'm 90% sure we'll get a reliever in the next 30 days. IIRC, we got Sullivan that way two years ago. Yes we did. Good players are still obtained after the trade deadline. Larry Walker being a prime example last year. -

I would have liked to have seen the reaction from those "make a trade at all costs" people if we had to move some of these guys. If Kenny isn't bulls***ting us here, and this is indeed the list of guys brought up in trade proposals, then I couldn't be happier that we didn't make a giant move. -
Isn't there a guy who does the morning NBC5 show named Dick Johnson? Hee hee...his name is Dick Johnson.
