Kingpin is way under-ranked, imo. What a total classic. And note to Knight, I know you didn't come up with the final rankings, just stating that in my mind it is a top 30 comedy.

Napoleon and Half Baked definitely would have made my list.

I'd rate it Superbad, Sara Marshall, 40 Year Old, Knocked Up. I enjoyed all of them, but Steve Carrel can piss me off at times and that is what pushed 40 year old down a bit. In fact there are times when I watch the office and if there is too much Carrel I get kind of pissed and want to change the channel or FF (he is funny in small doses, but in larger doses, annoying). I prefer Jim, Pam, Dwight, Andy.

QUOTE (heirdog @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) So when is Owens coming up? We could use his speed on the base paths. I think the BA ship has sailed...great spring and now 14 ABs, with 2 hits and 6 Ks. Too bad Ryan Sweeney has that nice average in Oakland. When is Richar going to replace Uribe? Uribe is still a free swinger with a nice glove...Richar can do that. I think we trade Crede's glove for Fields' bat. Crede has 3 throwing errors this year...maybe the back affecting his throw causing a tail. Fields has a cannon. Boy, Lucy or Phillips in for Toby Hall sure would be a shot in the arm for this team. Oh wait, this thread was about Iguchi and what we should have done in July 2007. Who did we get for that guy any way, Michael Dubee? He hasn't been so bad in the minors, right? BA is in a tough spot becuase like Ramirez he needs AB's. It is hard for a young player to come off the bench with limited playing time. Hell it is hard for most veterans to do it. Anderson has a high maintenance swing which needs consistent PT and it means he will never be an effective bench player (unless of course it is for defensive purposes). I'd actually be happiest with Owens replacing Anderson as the backup (we aren't using BA as a defensive replacement anyway so why not have Owens speed on the bench (pinch run for Konerko in certain late game situations and than have Swish slide to 1B with Owens in CF and I know Owens isn't that great over in CF, but still). Bourgouis replaces the Cuban Missile. Ramirez/BA get lots of playing time and in the case anyone gets hurt they can come up (plus Ramirez can get practice at 2B and him and Richar can compete for who will eventually replace Uribe).

QUOTE (max power @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) Obviously he better at hitting for average with men on, or else he wouldn't put up RBI totals. I wouldn't say he one of the better guys on the club. Also his clutch stats are terrible. He hits the best when up by 4 or more runs. I don't know where to find any stats on moving runners over or sac flys(no shocker to me that he is good at that the way he pops out all the time) but I'd love to see them. I saw it on a telecast a couple weeks back. I don't know if it was a Sox telecast or what, but it was showing the best players on the Sox and I was surprised to see Uribe way up there and he actually led the squad in certain categories.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) Just based on what we saw in the spring, I'd honestly much rather give Alexei the chance to succeed or fail at that position for a year than sign someone for big money to play that spot. But of course, the only way I want that done is if we play this season with that in mind. In other words, he needs at bats somewhere. If Ramirez played SS for a full season we'd probably see him crush the major league record for errors in a season. He is that bad defensively over there. That isn't to say he doens't have the tools to be a league average defensive shortstop, but he isn't anywhere close to being ready for that position. Put it this way, a team that is so called built on pitching would be making a massive, massive mistake going with Ramirez as an everyday SS. I'm talking massive. If we thought it sucked watching Mack in CF, just wait till you have to see a full season worth of Ramirez at SS. I don't even think he could be a league average defensive 2nd baseman right now (and 2nd is not a difficult position). Kendry Morales is two to three times the player Ramirez was down in Cuba (and very talented) and he was supposed to be near ML ready and it still took him a good amount of time before he hit the majors (and in his case he's a bit stuck given the Angels depth). Morales also had a lot more people watching him and a lot more people going after him (not that it is the end all be all, but it is pretty rare for every exec out there to be wrong on a guy; Ramirez has talent, but he isn't near major league ready and I was pleasantly surprised by his spring but it is actually been a disservice to him because he'd be better suited playing full time in AA or AAA. Stick Ramirez down in AAA, give him a full season, and maybe, you can consider it, but the odds are really against it. I hate to be a realist here but the guy is very raw, despite his age and while the cuban league has some good players it really is s*** compared to the good college leagues and the higher levels of the minors (in fact, some stacked lower level minor league teams are better than the Cuban teams as the talent there has tapered off a bit).

Uribe has been one of the better guys on the club over the past couple of years when it comes to moving runners over and hitting sacrifice flies or bringing guys in with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. It may be surprising to some, but last I looked at the stats, that was the case. He just gives up a whole lot of ab's. And no, I'm not saying he has a high average with runners in scoring position, but he isn't a bad hitter up with runners on as he tends to focus more and usually hits the ball hard and to the point where it gets the run in or the runner over.

Just want to point out that Furcal did have a bad year but he is an absolute stud and if he keeps going at the rate he's doing this year he'll be in line for a nice fat, longer term deal. On a sidenote, I would absolutely love to get the draft picks and than give one of those picks right back for signing Furcal (if the money was right). I say that because Furcal is a better long term move than OC. Again though, at the rate he's going any team in need of a SS will be willing to throw a good deal of cash his way.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) I don't think they are trying to lock up Ocab for a long time. I think they were more interested in his possible Class A rankings as a free agent than anything else. If they are waiting for Richar then sure, wait the time. But I agree that we need to replace Uribe at some point. If Ramirez is slotted to be our SS then he should be in the minors getting bats every single day. Having Ramirez rot on the bench for a one day a week 3 ABs is a waste of his development. The thing is, the Sox have absolutely nothing at SS, unless they truly believe in Ramirez and right now while I see some tools I think it is far too early to pencil in Ramirez as a SS of the future. I'd consider him a role player of the future with the upside to turn into a starter (but why he can't end up being a 2B is beyond me, because I don't think he's even close to being ready to be a major league starting shortstop, defensively speaking). I think the Sox would be more than happy to give OC a 2-3 year deal, the problem is OC is probably looking more at a 4 year deal (which would be a risky deal since he's already getting older and the more steps he loses the less valuable he becomes since his best asset is his defense).

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) Funny things is, if Ozzie would man up and tell everyone he's doing what's in the best interests of the team than OCab would move to 2nd and Uribe would go back to SS, where you can actually tolerate a sub .700 OPS from a guy with a laser beam and good range. Uribe's a bit better overall when he's on, but OC is far more consistent and still has the ability to make the great plays as well. Juan just has too many mental issues that tend to get in the way of his play. At this point I'm happy sticking with Juan at 2B, although I'm not opposed to playing Ramirez a bit more there. Than once Richar comes back and if he shows he's healthy it should be his job to lose (unless Juan or Ramirez have truly earned it). That will happen around May 15-May 31st (since I'm not expecting Richar back for a bit longer). Than come July, the Sox can evaluate the play of Richar and make a decision if he is the guy. If he isn't, they should consider upgrading since it is not typically expensive to find a good 2B or at least a league average one via the trading market. Ie, someone like Grudz on the Royals (if they have fallen out of contention why wouldn't they consider moving him for a couple guys that may not have spots in Chicago but could fit in nicely in KC). Now if the top of the order is struggling at that time, than you must consider a more high impact move like Roberts.

Cabrera makes the lineup much stroner and is a legitimate captain on the field. I love Jon, but the move was worth it, especially when you consider it is much more likely for Cabrera to garner type A compensation than Jon. Plus the reality is the Sox had a bigger hole at SS than they did in the rotation (although I'm still not ready to call our rotation amazing, but I've enjoyed what I've seen thus far, aside from Buehrle).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) Right now, Garland is 2-2 with a 4.81 ERA. If Garland was still here, Danks would be in AAA because the Sox weren't going to release Floyd for nothing and because Contreras was still unmovable. Danks is 2-1 with a 3.04 ERA. That deal still saved us what, about $3-4 million dollars, probably gets us an extra first round pick this year assuming Cabrera remains a type A FA, and replaced a guy with 1 year on his contract in the rotation with a younger guy we've got for years who is performing better. Even if Danks had been putting up numbers worse than Garland, I'd have said the extra draft pick and money alone made the deal worth it. I think had Garland stayed the Sox would have tried to move Jose (problem is they would have had to eat cash and not gotten anything of value in return, hence why they ended up moving Jon Garland).

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) I know nobody follows ASU...or gives a s***...but I just have to vent. They've absolutely stunk it up on the mound the past 2 weeks. They lost 2 out of 3 to Oregon St. this weekend (after losing 2 of 3 to Wash. St)...and have to score 15 runs to win. I know the Pac is tough...but damn. Losing Jason Jarvis really hurt this team and not having Ike Davis available on Friday cost them a W. I'm kind of used to this with Pac 10 baseball though...15-12, 14-10, 13-9 games...and it seems like it's the norm anymore. But my b**** kind of goes towards Pat Murphy. Just why in the hell do you have Brett Wallace batting leadoff!?!?!?!? I've NEVER liked the idea. ..nor have I understood it. I understood the need to move him from 1st to 3rd (which I still didn't like...but understood out of necessity)...but not keep him in the leadoff spot. I wish somebody could actually explain that move to me. Kipnis and Champagnie would work just fine for me at the top of the order. Brett 3rd. Ike Davis 4th. Paramore 5th. Roling 6th. Not hard to figure IMO. Murphy's such a stubborn ass..... BTW...who's the CS Fullerton fan on here?...Chisoxfn? ASU is at No. 22 Cal State Fullerton (23-13) for non-conference games Tuesday and Wednesday. That would be me. You should be in business because our rotation has been pretty piss-poor and the team has been all over the place (which to an extent can be expected given how young the Titans squad is). Fullerton did finally sweep a series they should have over the weekend (at Pacific). I got some long hours ahead of me but I'm going to try to get out to Wednesday's game.

Woot woot...today's weigh in at 170. Only 5 pounds away till I start lifting. Its been a pretty slow path to losing 10 pounds, but its not just the weight that I've lost more so that my knee continues to feel stronger and stronger and phyiscally my endurance is getting back to what i remembered it being when I was 5 years younger.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) He's not in the Carolina League. He's in the South Atlantic League. I would argue that major conference college baseball is on par with Low-A ball in a lot of ways. There isn't the same depth in college, but the best of the best dominate A ball right out of school. In his 2nd season he should be doing well in Low A or he truly is a non-prospect. Since the big 12 is a pretty strong baseball conference I would attend to agree with you. But unless you play in a baseball powerhouse and play against pretty good competition I tend to believe college ball is a bit worse than Low A. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) Yeah, but since this game is at 7 EST, it should still be shown. Does WGN usually get picked up on Extra Innings, for future reference? Is this just one of those flukes? No, I've never seen a WGN game on Xtra Innings. I just assume most everyone has WGN (if I have it out in Cali, shouldn't most others have it?). -
QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) The crudeness of the humor falls right in between Superbad and Knocked Up; however, this was probably my favorite of this series of movies. Absolutely hilarious. So many great one liners and funny moments. Definitely one of the funnier movies of the year (and one of the few movies I've seen the past few months). Baldwin's lines in the movie...pure gold.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) Sarcasm, as I called Thome's homer cheap. Thome's homer might have landed on the concourse at the Cell. Gotcha...I was confused. And that was one of the farther hit balls I've ever seen. That thing was an absolute monster. Anyone remember when Thomas hit that homer in Tampa back early in the Rays days (when Thomas was still in or close to his prime). I think they said it would have gone like practically 600 feet had it not hit something on the roof or hanging from the roof. -

They'll get to Nienman. I have full confidence in that. Jeff has a tremendous arm, but he's going to have at least one bad inning if not more than one due to his lack of command.
