f***ing stellar. Awesome pick by Paulie. -
I'm real busy at my job but I love doing it and we are working on our front page that will be up soon. If people actually liked listening to us than I'd definately do one (assuming I can convince Scalise) cause I always had a blast doing it.

Time for a DP -
There is something wrong when you see two of the 3 other teams being Wsahington and Florida. I just don't think revenue sharing works unless you have major clauses which force those lower market teams into spending some of that money as opposed to pocketing it (obviously they have some clauses already in there, but it is clearly not enough, since a team like Florida is sitting atop the list). At least Washington seems to actually be making some pretty solid moves and are heading in the right direction. They are also in a winnable division (not this year) but Atlanta is just mediocre, Philly has a great offense (no farm system to supplant it) and the Mets have a large payroll and a couple young studs (Wright/Reyes) and a nice ace of the rotation (solid farm system too, although much of there best was sent to Minnesota in the Johan deal) but again are not a dominant team or one with at least what you'd consider a very successful long term future. Heck, aside from the NL Central (which is still bad and any team truly should be able to compete), there isn't a division I'd rather be in than the NL East. NL West is loaded with average to above average teams with strong farm systems (plus pretty much every team in the division has the resources to have an average to above average payroll). AL West - Angels have a strong farm system, high payroll, and a pretty good model (they are much designed in the same manner as the Braves franchises with one exception, while they are willing to let young players establish themselves, they are also willing to go out on the free agent market and make a big splash); Mariners are languishing around, but they have some talented players and are a decent squad. Rangers are just a mediocre to poor team and will be until they can develop the young talent that flows through there system (they have regularly failed to develop any of there young pitching prospects). A's have a lot of young talent but limited payroll (this division ranks behind the NL Central and East) AL Central - Chicago has a deep payroll and a veteran squad which is always competing. Everyone knows about Cleveland/Detroit and KC isn't in near as bad shape as a lot of franchises. AL East - Nuff said; Red Sox/Yanks two of the deepest pockets and 2 of the best farm systems; Plus you have a Blue Jays team that could win or make a run at the Al West/NL Central/NL East division but instead will inevitably fall just a bit short.

Personally I always liked Carlisle and I'd have zero problem with him as the next head coach. I also have no problem going with Thiddeau.

Official 2007-08 College Basketball Thread
Chisoxfn replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I would love Rush on the Bulls. I think he's going to be a very very solid pro basketball player. In fact, aside from Rose/Beasley he is the guy who I think makes the best pro. I also have on problem with Collison/Westbrook as I think they are tremendous defensive players and Westbrook is a great athlete. Both however, have holes in there offensive game. -
Stone believes Roberts will be still be traded
Chisoxfn replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) Brian Roberts would literally be the perfect link for this offense right now but imo we'd probably have to give up way to much for him. And by that, I mean Josh Fields. I rip on Fields a bit more than most (although I am fully aware of his upside which power wise, he could be a legit middle of the order bat) but there is absolutely no way I'd trade Fields for anything less than a superstar/impact guy (Fields alone wouldn't be enough) or a high upside young player (ie, Linnecum/Cain/etc). Not for a 2nd baseman on the wrong side of 30. -
QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 06:11 AM) Yeah I'd love to make a Roberts acquisition, but what would we offer the O's (and we've had this argument over and over again). Uribe is starting and will until Richar comes back for a couple of weeks, but if he is still hitting below .200, no matter how good his defense is, I think we need to make a change still. But anyways, great game by Jose and good to see Jim back on track a little. At this point, I really would be hard pressed trading Broadway because regardless of the early start there are still concerns around the middle of the rotation (I want to see them keep it up for a couple months and I think they are capable but again, show me). Plus you never know when injuries are going to pop up and you need another guy in that rotation. That and I happen to think Broadway has the ability to be a rock solid #3 guy in the rotation for a very long time (he will never be an ace, but he'll be a real solid league average guy and those type of players are very valuable given the current open market price you'd have to pay to get that type of starting pitching). Now if you can give up McCulloch or even an Egbert and someone else to get Roberts, I'd be in.

QUOTE (max power @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) Idiotic. "In baseball" Not worth a response. You could try to make a point with out patronizing. Juan has the 2nd best arm of any infielder in all of baseball (Furcal has the best). Therefor, if you have an arm a tick below Uribe's than you too would have one of the best arms in baseball (and while I like Richar's tools, he doesn't have Juans arm, he does happen to have an above average arm for a 2nd baseman though). Uribe's arm, by 2nd base standards (now that he's playing there) is ridiculous (not that the arm strenght is that important at 2B with the exception of the rare play up the middle or turning DP's).

I've had a pretty good week so far. Had fries one day (ate vegetarian another day) but I ran on Monday, Bball on Tuesday, Softball (light jog before playing cause really softball isn't that much exercise) on Wednesday and tonight if all goes well another day of basketball. The run on Monday was one of my best runs in some time (3 miles in around 23 minutes). Not even close to a personal record (somehow I've ran a mile under 6 before and I know there is no way I'll ever do that again in my life). But I would really like to get to the point where I can run a mile under 7 minutes (still a bit away from that or so I assume).

Yes...they should have a statue of his stache at the stadium.

Fullerton just isn't as good as usual. They are going to have a tough time making the regionals, especially in there conference. The key is the rotation isn't as strong as it usually is. They were rocked by USC on Tuesday.

Sweet....I just read where Cox in San Diego is going to be doing MLB in HD. Usually Orange County is right behind San Diego in getting that type of stuff. They claim it will only be 10 games a week, but its a start. I saw where Comcast and Time Warner have indicated they will do the same (but it depends on what region and I don't think any regions are currently offering it). In terms of ESPNNews HD, DirectTV and Dish Network have said they will carry it (don't know if it got added or not) and the cable companies have all indicated they will as well but no timetable for when the various cable companies will go live with such channel.
-
I can't speak of Comcast, but DirectTV HD quality can't hold my cable companies jockstrap. Direct does have a few more channels but I really have most channels i'd ever want in HD. Now all I need is for my cable company to find a way to give me xtra innings in HD (I know you can get it if you had Direct TV, but it isn't worth the extra cost I'd have to pay with Direct).

I stayed in at the same weight, but that included a heavy drinking Thursday night. I feel tremendous though and have been playing lots of bball consistently. I'm thinking I'm two good weeks away from being in the 165 range.

Upton has amazing power.

These comparisons of Jon Garland and Gavin Floyd are just not accurate. Floyd and Garland were both top picks but thats where it ends. Garland lit up the minors quickly and came up to the majors and was a serviceable big league starter (ie while early on he didn't live up to the hype he was at least a league average starter for the vast majority of his career) all at a very young age. Hell, Garland is just a couple years older than Floyd and he's already had 6 straight 190+ inning seasons and won 93 games (more than he's lost) and posted an ERA+ of 105 (ie, just above league average).

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 06:47 AM) Rockies? Sox acquired Uribe from the Rockies in 04 (I think it was 04, may have even been 03) for Aaron Miles.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) He should be. Its a nice improvement to have a 270-280 avg and a .350+ OBP in LF. Add in some power and plus fielding and there is no way this kid shouldnt play everyday. Between that hole and the absolute disaster at 3B last year (I know Fields hit some hr's late but Crede was horrid prior to being shut down and there was a lot of Andy Gonzalez). Now this lineup has a guy capable of doing something solid at every spot (and that allows the Sox to have a guy like Uribe or eventually Richar have little pressure on them to hit as long as they play great defensively).
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) And I'll stand by that statement to this day It is a wrong statement. A healthy Joe Crede is above league average at 3rd. He won't have a great OPS but he'll knock in close to 100, hit 30 HR's, play gold glove defense (people really underestimate this factor as he saves a ton of hits), and swing somewhere between .270 and .285 (which is a completely acceptable average). Basically the only massive flaw in his inability to draw a lot of walks and have more complete ab's (but every season in the majors he has gotten better at that and that is why his numbers when healthy have gotten better). I'm not saying Josh can't end up to be better than Joe but right now Joe is a much better baseball player (and to a point he should be since he has a lot more experience under his belt).

QUOTE (CWSGuy406 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) Wow... I just got a call from the head of this program at MU saying that I've been granted a job interview tonight for one of the Accounting internship positions. I thought nothing was going to come of the 'workshop' that was held this weekend, and just like that... an interview. Anyone have any general tips, anything I can do to prepare? Obviously I'm going to want to research the company more. As far as what to bring (besides my winning personality -- BOO YAH!)... it's fair for me, the interviewee, to bring a pen and something to write on, yes? Boy am I nervous. EDIT: My main question is what I should bring... Resume? Cover letter? Writing utensils and (obviously) something to write on? References? If I bring the references, can I just have those at the bottom of my resume? And -- I wasn't really expecting this, so this has jumped up on me and it's why I'm not terribly prepared -- do I need specifics with those references? Keith, let me know the accounting company. Depending on the firm (hell it could be the firm I work for) I may know some people (accounting profession is a small world) and can throw out a kind word or something. In terms of the interview, google interview questions and read through the list and develop answers. Mainly just have a couple of things that you plan on discuss when they ask for strenghts or weaknesses and an example of times where you worked in teams. That way you at least know where you are going to go. This is obviously a little late of course (since you've already interviewed), otherwise I'd hop onto my computer and shoot you over a few resume templates that I have.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) 6. White Sox vs. Tigers (April 22, 2000) Sixteen players, coaches and managers suspended. Nine others fined. It was, MLB said, "the biggest mass suspension ever." That was the end result of two brawls that erupted at Comiskey Park, one in the seventh inning, the other in the ninth. In the sixth, the Tigers Jeff Weaver hit Carlos Lee with a pitch. In retaliation, Chicago's starter, Jim Parque, plunked Detroit's Dean Palmer in the top of the seventh. Palmer charged the mound, throwing his helmet at Parque before the real action started. "This wasn't just a shoving match," wrote Tom Gage in the Detroit News. "This was a nasty fight in which heavy punches were thrown and players were bloodied. White Sox reliever Keith Foulke had a facial cut that required five stitches." In the ninth, a couple more hit batsmen inspired another round of wrasslin', kicking and fisticuffs. When it was all over, the umps had ejected 11. Chris Osgood of the Red Wings was impressed. "It was a pretty vicious fight for a baseball game," he said. "But they stood up for themselves pretty good. It's a good way to build camaraderie." May Bday!!!

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) But the argument being made is "why can't we have a bunch of individual threads instead of large ones". Even if we did do it that way, that wouldn't change the amount of posts, but they would now be spread out instead of all being in one place, which seems like more work for the reader. There just isn't a good way around it when you have a board with thousands of members. Personally speaking though, I actually prefer things that way because I can quickly see whether its a topic I'm interested or not interested and skim by it or not. In the case of the massive threads I tend to really scan or ignore pages cause I'm so behind on the new posts and since I really have nothing to filter what the news is I could end up missing stuff that i would usually read. I really understand both sides to it. On one hand, it definitely can keep things more organized, especially cause there are some posts that maybe don't need there own thread but on the other hand I personally can't stand massive threads.
