Crede to Phillies?
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Jason may be a little 'fanboy-ish' with regards to certain Angels, but I don't think it's that bold of a prediction. Kendrick held a .359 minor league batting average. Hell, as an (partly-injured?) 23 year old this year, Kendrick hit .322. I find it laughable that someone even brought up his name as a possible trade target and even MORE laughable that somebody insinuated the Sox shouldn't trade for him (if offered) because we have Danny freaking (!) Richar manning the position. If the Sox are going to make a trade with LAA, how about for their OFer who was hurt most of the year and looks like he might not have a spot there anymore, Juan Rivera. I think that might make some sense for both teams (provided both players are healthy, of course). Rivera is the guy I want. And fanboyish...ahh emm....Mrs. Adam Dunn Seriously, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person to ever insinuate that Kendrick would win a batting title. I am biased because I love and I mean love how the Angels "play" baseball (than again most of the Angels I've ever hyped have turned into pretty solid baseball players, with the possible exception of Santana who took a dump this season but I'd still love to have his arm). I fall in love with tools and they have had a good number of toolsy young players the past couple years. Plus, The Angels as a whole just do things so beautifully for the most part (great defense, great baserunning, timely hitting). They just severely lack one more big hitter and one more good hitter to surround Vladdy. But there really isn't any reason not to like the collection of Kochman/Kendrick/Wood (Wood is the one that I think is the most likely to bust, but he's also the most likely to hit 40 to 50+ HR's in a season). As Pratt is to the Braves & Flash to the Twins, I am to the Angels & Dodgers (I am in love where both of the franchises are headed and jealous the Sox can't be in that position). Oh and you are right, the odds of the Angels dealing Kendrick for Garland are slim to none. I doubt they would for Paulie either, but if they did offer up Kendrick and Morales for Konerko I'd bite on it (stick Morales at 1st and Kendrick at 2nd, and deal with Richar as a utility guy). Edit: I actually don't think the Angels would even make that deal for Konerko, but I'd be happy to throw it out to them. It is less than it would take to get Miguel Tejada and the Angels are fans of Paulie. Plus Morales is more of a ??? than Kochman. If the Angels really wanted Garland too, I'd be more than happy to simply ask for Figgins & Spier (I'm assuming the Angels would be happy if a club took on Spier's contract, but if I assume wrong I could do the deal just for Figgins/Kendrick/Morales). Use the money left over to sign a veteran starter to a short term deal (if that is the way you want to go) or use the money to try and trade for a young player nearing FA that you are gonna give a fat contract to become one of the new "franchise" players.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) That's quite the prediction. He's that good of a pure hitter. Last guy I said that about was Maggs after watching him for a season in Chicago. Of course I always thought he would win one in Chicago.

Stoneman to step down...
Angels fans rejoice..the most overrated GM in baseball is finally gone. Good riddance Mr. Stoneman. God you sucked from a major league stand point (I'd let him run my farm system any day, but not the major league club).

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Your thoughts: a 16 yr old girl hanging out with a 21 yr old guy. I saw way worse this past weekend. I have a friend that is 24 who is hanging out with a 16 year old gal and than at a party I was at on Friday, there was some schmoe that was like 34 with a 17 year old (everyone else at the party was between 20 & 25). It made me feel much better with myself. For the record I think the maturity levels between a 16yr old and 21 year old are far different, plus it is illegal in many states. I think if you are 21 you should find someone that is at least 18. Hell I don't care if you are 25 and going out with an 18 year old because at that case the 18 year is typically in college (Freshman) and capable of making there own decisions (even if they may not always be the best decisions).

Dusty is back
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) They better trade Dunn soon; clogging up the bases is bad. They should have moved Dunn two years ago when teams everywhere were ready to give up multiple top prospects for him (theyd still give up a lot, but not as much as before). God is Dunn over-rated (however, he's gotten less hype the past year which makes him a bit less over-rated now).

Crede to Phillies?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) We already have at least a decent looking young 2nd baseman. We don't have a spot for Kendrick. At least give me someone who looks like they belong at SS, don't give me someone we have to move there. Kendrick >>>>> Richar I agree thta there are other priorities but Kendrick is gonna win a batting title. I would have zero problem if the Sox acquired Kendrick and used Richar in platoon role (I'd prefer one of there SS prospects though).

White Sox Fall/Winter League Discussion Thread
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) It's cases like this that I really feel like the organization is asleep at the wheel. This situation, along with not Hall surgery issue are puzzling. The Sox were out of the race by mid July. Why did Toby not have his surgery then? Has he even had it yet? Rehab was done instead of the surgery and he was supposed to be able to heal his arm through rehab. Last I knew he was not planning on ever under-going the surgery and consistent rehab should eventually get him back (in fact I think he was pretty healthy late this season...not that his statitistics would indicate such) to 100% (or close to 100%). I know Pedro opted to rehab a couple different times as opposed to having surgery. Pedro's brother Ramon Martinez did such a couple times as well and while those are both examples of pitchers following a plan of rehab/restrengthening as opposed to surgery there are even more position type players that took similar paths (since they don't put near as much stress on there shoulders on a consistent basis). Bottom line Hall is the type of guy you'd get rid of if you can. Unfortunately they won't get anyone to take his contract cause I'd prefer having a defensive stud like Molina backing up AJ.

While I think the White Sox have been pretty mediocre at best in there scouting outside of the US, it is necessary to point out that they probably still are in the top 2/3rds in baseball in terms of what they spend on there international operations (heck I wouldn't be shocked to see them in the top 15). However, the Dodgers/Angels/Yankees/Mets/Braves are all amongst the top 7 in all of baseball in international scouting (and spending) and all of those teams also have very good baseball teams. The White Sox are nowhere near these clubs and they need to be striving to get to these clubs levels. Not only do these clubs spend more money (which is one of the factors) but they also have more developed in the international systems and a better reputation (players take note of which teams are better at developing, at least top players, and they will be more likely to join those systems). The White Sox are greatly improving in this area as they have made some great hires and gotten some very well known and well respected international guru's and contacts involved (29thandPoplar has documented that well). They have also made more impact signings the past couple years in guys like Anderson Gomes, Po-Yu Lin, Salvador Sanchez, and this new SS). I'm sure there could be other guys that are yet to be on our radars as well. Obviously the results on the current guys have not been great, but it is still early, and this is almost like a lottery where you know a good chunk of the guys won't pan out. PLus along with getting more toolsy guys in the system, you also have to have the coaches that can mold there abilities and help hone them into good fundemental players who will be able to succeed at the major league level. Right now I can confidently say for the first time, that I fully believe the Sox farm system is heading in the right direction when it comes to international operations (Ozzie's pure rep, even though he isn't involved in this part of the baseball operations, also has a significant positive influence). We've seen progress each of the past three years and that progress has been gettting exponentially better. The next step will be to see the results of this progress start to hit the lower and mid levels of the minors and than 3-6 years down the road we should see that progress making a consistent impact on the major league squad. If they can also correct their draft scouting and minor league developmental system we should see similar improvements and when you combine both (International/Drafting) you could see the Sox turn into a team that consistently has a strong system (ala the Braves/Angels/Dodgers). The Yankees are quickly looking like a team that will consistently be on this list. I should also put the Marlins on here, but to a point you should have a consistently strong system when you are constantly trading away good young pieces for top notch prospects (albeit they clearly deserve a pat on the back for identifying talented prospects and doing an outstanding job developing the guys in there system).

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) I deleted my post, as I don't want to get into the whole Griese/Grossman debate again. Griese was atrocious today up until the last two drives. He was worse than atrocious and yet somehow people are acting like he had a good game. He had two good drives, one against a prevent prevent defense and the other was an awesome pass to Hester (I tip my cap to that). But that first drive shouldn't have even happened as he threw a pick that was dropped (horrible pass) before the Bears got the TD to Moose.

Bizarre Stein rumor
It was reported about 3-4 months ago that he had prettys severe dementia. I hadn't heard much about it since but Steinbrenner has been hiding behind the scenes ever since that report came out and I do think he has some sort of dementia (the question is how serious it is).

QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) hart>chris wells> mendenhall > young Young shouldn't be on the list because he's on a horrific offense and has been banged up. However, if your talking a healthy young he is better than Mendenhall. He's also a senior though so he has experience on his side.

QUOTE(SnB @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) WHAT THE f***!!!!!!!!!!! we had that! Had you won that game, it would have been luck. Iowa outplayed the Illini offensively and defensively. First Down Albert Young and Iowa may have found a bit of its mojo as they finally pull out a game and hold the lead!!!! Offense is still horrific, but the oline looks like its getting a bit more healthy.

By the way...I just want to say...Mendenhall best RB in the Big Ten, BAHAHAAA. I'm not slamming him, but he ain't the best. I rarely saw an "impressive" run out of him today. Albert Young was better today, than again Young is finally getting healthy again and when healthy he has led the big ten in rushing before.

Rowand Wants Big Money
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) Who is shocked. Everyone here realizes that Hunter wants that. That still has nothing to do with Rowand not being worth 14 million, hell he isnt worth 10 million. You could make a case that Rowand had the best season of any of the FA outfielders.

A signing out of the Dominican
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) Its a 16 year old. He may have just developed early. Don't forget that Adrian Beltre and Andruw Jones were also signed right around 16 (in Beltre's case he was signed at a younger age). Joel Guzman is another guy that was signed at an extremely young age and I'm sure there are plenty others that I am forgetting. I think the important part when you remember a kid is 16 is to be extremely patient and understanding that it may be a year or two until you see him playing in any full season league in the US. However, if he has good raw tools now that is a good indication that he has good raw abilities and those could continue to grow as his body matures (than again he could be an early developer with his body not developing much) and by surrounding him with good coaching at a young age (mixed with good raw abilities) we could see him turn into a impact guy. Of course I wouldn't bet anything on him panning out. Not at 16, no kid can be a guarantee at that age. That said I like the philosphy and I hope the Sox start pushing out and trying to make more "young" signings. The sheer numbers game should pan out (if you put young kids that have talent and combine it with good coaching, some of those kids are bound to pan out).

I saw this in 3d about a year ago and it was pretty cool. I had actually never seen the movie completely either (until seeing it in 3d).

A signing out of the Dominican
I like the fact that they are taking the time to pub it. It indicates that the Sox are familiar with what is going on and I don't think they would take the time to discuss this guy in public if they didn't feel good about the move and the PR around it. A lot can happen but if they are signing a 16 year old with good tools I'm happy (the more of those guys you can sign the more likely the odds are that a few of them develop into major leaguers).
