QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) I would likely understand it. Mexi-Wite

Garland flat out is amongst the best in the AL defensively (imo, he's superior to Buehrle whose also one of the very best in the league). Garland has cat like reflexes and is just a tremendous athlete in general. (I probably sound like hawk).

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) Thanks for telling the board your position. Remember you have written off 2008, no turning back now. Maybe stop baiting greg775 too. Everyone's position on the "I want them to win" or "I want them to lose" is pretty well known at this point. By the way, I have the letters out to the powers that be in the White Sox org. If they answer and consent to an interview I'll let the board know. Better to reach out and try to get some answers, imo, than complain about the same thing on a message board every day. Awesome...very excited to see if your able to land an interview. It would be great to get the views from the inside as I think at this point most of us all know where each other stand (but regardless of where we stand...what matters is where the Sox stand).

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) Gee - I bet we could have heard that fixed statement last year about this time, eh? Major difference. Zach has been pitching at the major league level for the entire season and aside from a few blips has been pretty solid for a young pitcher. He also has shown that he's been making strides. Floyd on the other hand was pretty much relegated to minor legaue duties the year the Sox acquired him, had dropping velocity, and was pretty much worth nothing to the Phillies (If the Royals dealt Zach, it would be to get two young prospects, imo). Bottom line I'd be all for a McCulloch/Broadway for Grienke type of deal (or for a player similar to Grienke in other systems). However, I don't know if the Royals make that type of move and again it would be a risky move for the Sox as you never know if Grienke will flop (still he's got a very good arm and is still rather young).

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Garland only threw 78 pitches in 8 innings. Thats Maddux like.

QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) I've been watching. Greinke has been looking pretty good so far, as has Garland. Zach is a guy that I think will be on a lot of teams radars. I don't know if the Royals would give up on him, but I heard some talk that they would consider moving him (don't know if they have soured on that with the way he's pitched lately). He has a great arm and good stuff and seems to be over all the mental crap that happened to him after he was rushed up to the majors at such a young age.

Since I was gone over the weekend, I just want to say congrats to Northside and Heads on that ISU win. Hopefully my Hawkeyes can rebound this weekend on the road and pull a major upset -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) I believe Jason and I both wanted Kennedy, but we won too many games. Shant be a problem next year. Yep...I couldn't believe how far he fell in that draft, but it still wasn't quite far enough (not that the Sox would have grabbed him). Man he would look good. Heck, earlier this year I think you could have potentially traded for Kennedy as there were still some who believed he didn't have enough upside and that the Yanks would have considered moving him (as Joba and Hughes are rated above him and rightfully so based on there ridiculously right arms).
-
I've thought about Itzuris but I don't know if the Angels would give up that depth. I think he'd be a tremendous fit and would be worth the risk (to see if he could duplicate those numbers as a full time starter). No doubt to me he's capable of being an average defensive SS.
-
Bill Hall (CF, former SS): 2008 - 4.8M 2009 - 6.8M 2010 - 8.4M 2011 - 9.25M Options (500K buyout) He is also a SS who posted an 800+ OPS in 2 straight seasons entering this year (he has struggled this season). The average salary for the 3 seasons he is guaranteed is about 6.6M per year. I don't know what his injuries were this season (I think it was an ankle) but if the Sox feel he could be healthy he'd be a pretty good addition who'd definitely add some pop to the lineup (decent speed, ie faster than Uribe, but not a great base stealer). If the club could get him in a deal involving Contreras I'd definitely listen (or if by taking on the contract they could get him for someone like Sweeney or Anderson plus Broadway again I'd listen).

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) Why in the hell did Yost let Hall bat? He's had a terrible season, a terrible game, and they have much better options off the bench in either Gross vs a righty or Dillon to face a lefty. Would anyone be against the Sox trying to trade for Hall and moving him back to SS? He's coming off a down season and isn't great defensively but I still think he'd be a superior upgrade over Uribe (and when he's at his best he's a darn good player. I don't know what the Brewers would ask but I'd be all for it.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 02:01 PM) I don't know what Jason means... But NIU could have hosted the game in Dekalb, and have less than 30K in attendance, or they could play that game in Soldier Field and sell out 61K at $50 a pop. I'm sure they split that with Iowa. I was reading an article saying the game was going to be Iowa's 2nd largest grossing non-bowl game ever (in terms of money and I think it was Northern Illinois' largest grossing game). -
If you wait a couple weeks, the cheaper (non Premium ones) will also have HDMI. I just had to return mine from Costco as it never worked right (had some disc error issues) but I haven't heard of anyone else I know having problems (and mine had started from day one). Oh and the Xbox comes with a really strong warranty now (thanks to those early f'ups) so even if something does happen its covered.

My entire right leg is on fire. Note to self, don't ever dive and than slide onto concrete (I was going after a play in softball and there were a bunch of runners on so I was going all out and didn't realize I was coming up onto concrete) Now I am sitting at work and I swear my entire hammy is red...leg, knee..everything. Each time I spray bactine on it I have to run around cursing for a minute till the pain subsides (than I put myself through more torture with Pydroxide or whatever its called).

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Do you mean legal as in it wasn't specifically banned in the MLB rules book? Or as a legal dietary supplement, or available as a prescription? Both.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) Mahin played with Bristol. He's going to be a real solid player. Don't know if he has enough tools to make it, but he definitely knows how to play the game and is fundementally strong.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) I noticed the answer you posted on your blog, but I do recall people hyping Prior as the unquestionable #1 selection in late 2000. It jumps out at me because, in my more juvenile days, I was trolling the Cubs official MLB website and first became aware of him through there. Actually I think Texeira was also widely considered the potential #1 pick that far in advance as well but he had some sort of injury early in the collegiate season leading up to the draft and because of that injury slid down a few slots (and of course Prior was amazingly dominant at USC that season).

I'd still be surprised if he got the job. I don't think he's ready in the player development standpoint for the GM role. I do think he'd be a big loss though as he does an oustanding job in the contract negotiations.
-
I think there is a decent chance the Sox could stick with Brian Anderson as a back-up outfielder (capable of playing all 3 OF positions). That will become more likely if he makes some strides in winterball. Sweeney on the other hand will probably be dealt for another prospect the Sox like that may fill a more immediate hole (Sweeney still has trade value, but I'd say he's considered a B-/C+ prospect at this point and most of that is still based on a lot of "Old" hype). In fact there is a better chance that both are gone next year than both being in the org, imo.
-
I definitely think there is some cause for concern. At the same time, he has a good arm and this beatdown will be a great learning experience for him (assuming he's mentally tough and can handle this and if he isn't mentally tough than he won't make it in this league). I still think he has a lot to work on and the progression of his secondary stuff really was minimal throughout the course of the season and that kind of scares me. I'm hoping its just a confidence thing and that he's been working with Coop on that sort of stuff and will show up more ready to compete for a full season next year.

That RedEye thing is cool. Congrats to those of you that were quoted.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) With the talent level the D-Rays have built up in the draft...they really do have a shot at making noise here in the next couple years. They've had great talent buildups for a while, problem is they have trouble keeping the young guys together and they have never went after some vets to put around the young players when they are ready as the final step towards the competing puzzle (well with the exception of when they spent some money on Greg Vaughn and a couple other busts.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) Couple of things... 1) Those not understanding the timing of this extension...surely, you jest. This is called buying low. This is economics 101 and it is certainly a White Sox hallmark. If believed that Ozzie was not the problem this year and that the White Sox can once again compete for the pennant under his guidance, the board was smart to lock up their man when he asking price was presumably at its lowest. 2) The short-sightedness is staggering. Anyone with at least a half-refined baseball acumen knows Ozzie Guillen was not the problem for the 2007 White Sox. Was he at his best? No. I'll admit it appeared at times that Guillen had his head a bit too far out in front of his skis...paling in comparison to Williams' performance. I don't think this season was due to a lack of trying OR a lack of proper managing--it was due to lack of talent and lack of execution. This is a fine move and a positive one for the organization. Solid post Addy.
