Yanks interested in Crede
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) DeSalvo sucks. I'd have no problem with a Crede for Damon trade, as long as the Yanks throw in some money. The more I think about it the more I like a Crede for Damon deal. Damon is still solid and provides the Sox with something they vastly need (a top of the oder threat). I realize he's on the downhill but he'd still provide the Sox with stability and he'd be an above average defensive left fielder. You have Fields at 3rd, find a CFer via FA, and than pick up a SS that could be your two hole hitter (or pick up Rowand and let him be your 2 hole hitter and trade for a prospect that is pigeonholed or stuck...maybe go after one of the Braves shortstop prospects).

White Sox Player Values
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) You don't lose any draft picks for Type B now I didn't realize there was a change made, but I just read that in the Trib article as well. Thanks for the info Gene

White Sox Player Values
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) Possible future White Sox: Torii Hunter: A Aaron Rowand: A Barry Bonds: A Mike Cameron: B Jose Guillen: B Andruw Jones: B Luis Castillo: B Omar Vizquel: B David Eckstein: B Scott Linebrink A Giving up draft picks for any of those guys would be terrible. In Bonds case you wont' give up a draft pick because the Giants won't offer Bonds arbitration. But geeze, if the Sox sign Hunter or Rowand & Eckstein the club will have little draft picks. Not only will those two signings help cripple the franchises future, but they will also cripple the system with a loss of early picks.

Torii Hunter
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) Why will Crisp improve? A lot of people say he will, but why? What has he shown lately to give anyone that impression. He's been horrible at the plate the last two seasons. Not that I want either at their prices, but I'd much rather have Castillo than Crisp. They are very similar players (good speed, good defense), but Castillo is clearly more productive. The main issue with Crisp is health. He hasn't been healthy and that lack of health really effected his production the past season or so. Now there is obviously no guarantee he regains his health but this is a guy that can be had without giving up a top prospect for. He is easily better than what we had in CF or LF last year and would add much needed speed and youth to this club (no he's not incredibly young, but he's still on the right side of 30). s***, as far as I'm concerned unless Kenny brings in numerous guys under 30, I don't want the Sox to touch anyone over 30 unless they are a reliever or a bench player (If they just go out and add more 30+ year old vets this team will be the Oriole's and fast). Go out and get agressive, give up what you need to for Dejesus/Crisp/Bay/Furcal (although he's older than the other's mentioned)/Khalil. Than swing Contreras for something and stick it out with Garland (and just reap the draft picks and hope he pitches his ass off and you can actually come to terms with him). Unless of course you get an awesome deal for Jon. Bottom line is Kenny shoudl try to win but he should be trying to win without mortgaging the entire future and by acquiring guys like Dejesus/Crisp/Bay/Furcal you aren't mortaging the future as you can build around these guys in 09 and on too (even though you are giving up prospects and in Bay's case top notch prospects or major league talent such as Garland/Contreras in the case of Furcal). Bottom line, Kenny, please don't be a f***ing idiot and bring in more and more veterans. You can win next year by bringing in younger players that fit the Sox needs (even if it means being all over the trade lines). I'm not talking rooks, just solid young players (that may not fit in where they are anymore) that can help the SOx do what Kenny thinks they can (win next year) and if the Sox don't win next year, you now have a good core of young players to use along with Fields and some of the Sox young pitching to help the Sox contend in 09/10/11. If Kenny does what I think he'll do, this team will be cellar dwellers for years.

Free Agent List
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) Also, there's talk that Jose Guillen will opt out of his contract in Seattle and become a free agent, he'd be a great fit for LF IMO. If Guillen became available, I'd be all for moving Crede now, sliding Fields to 3rd and than having the Sox find a way to trade for Furcal and pick up a solid CFer (even if that means Crisp).

Yanks interested in Crede
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) I actually think that if they wanted the Sox could get Betemit in a Crede deal rather easily. If the Yankees are showing interest, that's great. They need a 3B, but they are set at SS and 2B and Betemit holds little value with them. Throw in some turd from AAA along with Joe and get Betemit and be done with it... I don't think the Yanks would worry too much about dealing Betemit. Seriously. I realize Crede is hurt but he's been a starter in this league for a number of years and two season ago he was one of the best 3rd baseman in all of baseball (no he wasn't the best or even top 5, but he was right below that 2 years ago). Betemeit (while I like him a lot) has shown great power potential but has never had a full time starting job anywhere. You all vastly underrate Joe. I realize the back injury is a major if, but the Sox would still be able to get Betemeit for Crede straight up. I dont' know Betemeit's contract but I'd do the move if he's under wraps for another few years (if he isn't I wouldn't because Crede is better than Wilson). I still think the Sox need to find a way to get speed and improved OBP. I'm a fan of Dejesus & Furcal in Chicago (even though Furcal hasn't had the greatest OBP in his career, he's a good hitter). If you can do that without giving up Gio/DSL/Carter than it sounds good to me.

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) I think it is possible to acquire both... but that is proably wishful thinking. It clearly is, but having Crede in the lineup with Fields in LF makes a lot more sense to me. However, if you aren't able to acquire a top of the order hitter at the SS spot (ie Furcal) than I would have no problem adding in two speedy outfielders that we could slide into the outfield and have hit 1/2 (ie Crisp & Dejesus..both of whom are signed to more than fair deals and with both of them along with Dye you are talking about a pretty solid defensive outfield, even if it does lack pop). You would than move Crede and plug Fields into 3rd and hope you can get something solid for Joe (maybe Crede & someone for a SS prospect that you can put in the bottom part of your lineup and groom). I really have no problem with two outfielders that don't hit for much power, considering you'd still have Dye/Konerko/Thome/Fields who all have good power (and if Uribe stays him as well).

Kobe To the Bulls Rumors
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) I think it had to do with Wallace not fitting into the triangle offense very well. Wallace is a good passing big that plays great defense so I'm sure he fits into the triangle.

Kobe To the Bulls Rumors
Did Kobe veto the deal because Ben was going? That would have been a fantastic deal for Chicago, imo, as they would have had the flexibility to go out and pick up a center via trade.

Kobe To the Bulls Rumors
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:20 PM) So if Kobe won't go to Chicago without Deng being there (I think I've read that), and the Lakers won't accept a trade without Deng in it...uhh, am I missing something? That is where the so called third team will come in.
-
Kobe To the Bulls Rumors
Apparently ESPN SportsCenter is calling it the trade that didn't go through. Basically put it was a three way deal between Sacremento, Chicago, and LA that involved both Ben's heading out of town.

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) IF healthy, and that's the big if with acquiring Crisp, he would probably be the perfect #2 hitter for us. He could hit .280/.300 with an OBP around the .350/.360 which is exactly what this lineup is. I wouldn't trade Carter for him. But I'd probably trade any prospects outside of our top 5 or so to get a deal done. And I would try to include Brian Anderson in a deal if Boston were interested. There is no way the Red Sox wouldn't do a deal that involved Sweeney/McCulloch, imo. I think the Sox would make that deal as well. I wonder what the Royals would think of a deal involving Sweeney and a pitching prospect (even if that spect was Egbert or Broadway). I think they would bite. THe Sox would than have to find a way to get a SS in here, such as Furcal without giving up the farm (ie Carter/DSL/Gio/Shelby).

Kobe To the Bulls Rumors
So apparently Magic Johnson, VP of the Lakers, came out and said no deal will happen with the Bulls due to there reluctance to give up Luol Deng. There was also some rumors about a deal with Phoenix/Chicago/LA that would involve Marion heading to LA, Kobe to Chicago, and Gordon/Other Bulls headed to Phoenix.

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I just remembered someone who we talked about before... David DeJesus. Him or Crisp would both be the exact pickups I'd be a fan of. I also realize Crisp had a down year, but in 2006 he was banged up and those injuries really effected his production. I don't have an explanation for 06 but I think he's talented and he has had more than just one good year (05 was rock solid, but 04 was good and the early part of 06 was darn good as well IIRC). Plus he has above average range out there.

Kobe To the Bulls Rumors
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) I was going to ask the basketball experts, if we lose Hinrich and Gordon, who will play pg? Or is that not even a big of deal once we get Kobe It wouldn't be a big deal and duhon is more than capable of being a league average starting pg (especially with Kobe/Deng and the rest of the squad relatively intact).

Joey Cora up for PIT Manager position
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) I'm somewhat surprised Tony Pena's name hasn't been mentioned as a candidate in Pittsburgh. Maybe it will now that he didn't get the Yankee job. I would think Pena could be an option as a bench coach in Chicago if he doesn't join Girardi's staff or get another major league job. He could also go to New York with Torre, but If he did that he'd be the 3rd guy as everyone knows Mattingly is going to be brought in and groomed to be Torre's eventual replacement in LA. Plus, IIRC, the Sox have a great relationship with Pena and have in the past offered him job opportunities.

White Sox decline Erstad, Myers options
Erstad is a perfectly acceptable 4th outfielder if the Sox bring in a top flight CF prospect or young top notch cfer. If they go with a more proven guy in left I'd rather just let someone like Jerry Owens or Brian Anderson get the backup spot as they will be cheaper. Still, I have no problem with Erstad on the Sox its just he can't possibly be doing anything more than being a defensive replacement/pinch runner/once a week at most starter.

Brian Anderson Helps Homeless
Good for Brian. I wish him the best. He got completely screwed by the Sox organization and I hope he goes somewhere else and kicks ass. I'm not saying he didn't put himself in a spot where he ended up deserving some of the heat he took but at the same time, the Sox could have handled things a lot better.

Arod Opts Out
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) According to Passan from Yahoo Sports, the Sox are not even in the top 10 to acquire A-Rod (my comments in parantheses): 1. LAA 2. LAD 3. SFG (I don't see it) 4. CHC (Spent a lot last year) 5. NYY (Not after the Opt Out) 6. NYM (Um, Wright and Reyes) 7. DET 8. BOS ( 9. FLA (Not enough payroll) 10. TEX (Why would they do it again?) I would say it is between LAD, LAA, and BOS. With the Sox and Tigers as dark horses. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ApWW...oo&type=lgn Right now I think it is a 3 horse race: Giants (where I think he goes) Angels Dodgers (team most apt to afford him as they have so many quality young players already in the lineup) Cubs (they spent a lot but they could definitely go for him; ownership change probably prevents it)

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) Once KW sees the crazy contracts that Rowand and Hunter are going to get, he'll trade for Crisp (and then b**** to the press about the market). Crisp is a great defensive player, but he's not nearly the quality hitter we need to add to the lineup. If you do trade for him, you better upgrade at SS. If you can pick up a Furcal to go with Crisp and keep the rest of the lineup pretty status quo I think you'd be in good shape. The only question is whether the Sox stick with Contreras/Garland in that rotation (as Kenny does have a chance to move those guys and be a little risky while setting the team up for potential success in 08 but also in the upcoming years). Furcal Crisp Konerko Thome Dye AJP Crede Fields Richar That isn't that bad of a lineup and you have a legitimate 1-2 punch with some speed as well as a relatively fast 9 hole hitter (plus Fields has good speed). Than obviously there is the slugs in between that.

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) I just opened the latest Sports Illustrated and on page 32 Joe Sheehan of Baseball Prospectus said the Red Sox will most definitley trade Coco Crisp and the White Sox seem like the likely candidate. It has Boston sending Crisp to the Sox for 1B Chris Carter. Carter was third in Class A Sally League with 25 homers. This seems like a KW type move to me... Crisp out in LF sounds good. If KW decides to bring Rowand back we would have one hell of a defensive outfield. I wouldn't be a fan of moving Chris Carter for Crisp. However, I'd be all about moving Kyle McCulloch and Brandon Allen for Crisp. Allen has just as much power potential as Carter but had a few developmental hiccups along the way and just doesn't grade out quite as well as Carter (who I consider close to untouchable, not because he's a guaranteed star, but because you won't get what I consider even value for him). Still Crisp would fit in well and its a name I like a lot more than any of the other ones I've heard (Jenkins/Arow/Jones/Torri)
