QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) The trade would be a financial boon for the Sox. They'd have their CFer for the next few seasons, unless they wanted to ditch Crede altogether, put Figgins (or Fields) at 3B (with the other in left) and go after one of the FA CFers. If they made this happen, I'd just go with Figgins in center, Fields in left and Crede at third, and would look focus the rest of the winter's efforts on improving at SS. The rotation is going to take a hit if Garland is traded, no doubt, but the team is going to be lacking in some area(s) next year unless Kenny can work miracles. *Cough* Arod *Cough*

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) I absolutely love Scot Shields. I love him too, but he was not very good down the stretch and I'm a bit concerned about him slowing down drastically due to being drastically overworked for the past couple seasons. That said, if he's healthy he's a stud reliever.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) This deal would free up a lot of money. It would appear that the Sox would become weaker against LHP though. It would depend on what KW did with the extra money, but I think I would lean toward doing it. I don't know if thats possible, but you are right as Kochman is a lefty. Hell, did anyone think that after making that move the Sox would have freed up at least 20M in payroll and they would also have just one open position (SS). Could that be a sign of one Alex Rodriguez coming in. You'd have: Figgins - CF Fields - LF Dye - RF Kochman - 1B AJP - C Richar - 2B Arod - SS Crede - 3B Thome - DH Note that the above is not a batting order, just a defensive allotment. You'd also see that the order would be pretty stacked and the only weak hitters would be Richar (and he has some tools to be a good hitter). The only major defensive question would be at SS and Arod was once a gold glove SS. The rotation would not be as good (unless you find a way to get a solid young starter to replace Garland). However, the team would have added speed at every one of those positions (and gotten younger at each position, aside from SS). I'm not saying they would get Arod, but this type of deal would make it a possibility.

That deal would have to be a starting point. The plus side is the Sox are washing a lot of payroll, but they also would need to find a way to get a top prospect in that deal (someone like Brandon Wood or Adenhart). I definitely would be a fan of Shields/Kochman/Figgins all becoming members of the Sox as they are all very solid players and most are still very cheap and will be cheap for at least a few more seasons. I'd also be a bigger fan of that deal if it were Santana/Kochman/Figgins/Wood or Adenhart as opposed to Shields (I love Shields, but I'd be more concerned with semi-replacing Santana than I would be adding another reliever). Than the Sox would have 20M in payroll to blow on a CF'er to add some pop to the lineup or a variation of other players. You would also than stick with Uribe for another year and plan on giving Wood more and more playing time.
-
I don't see why they should be in trouble. They have three stellar young starting pitchers in Joba, Kennedy, & Hughes plus two young position players in Melky/Cano. They also have zillions of dollars in payroll and even if Arod walks they have the ability to both trade for new guys or sign new guys (albeit none will be as good as Arod).

Do most people get this day off or something? Based on the 7 hr's I've already worked today (i was in at 7) I know I didn't have the day off.

Of course...if you didn't you'd be wasteful.

QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) Everything I have heard on him is that he is a SS first but they think he can play CF. Contreras will probably be around and I think they share the same agent. I think there is better talent in the OF then there is SS so I'd rather sign him to play there for us. A japanese reliever would be nice. There has to be a few other Okajima's there (Not literally but figuretively) that can come to the MLB and be lights out. What do you think about Jose as a reliever? If he's a better shortstop thats even better. There is no FA market for SS's what-so-ever and I'd love for the Sox to be able to find a quality SS with tools (and from everything I've read Alexi has good tools).

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) It's getting some spectacular reviews for once. Their saying it's finally better than Winning Eleven. s***, I loved playing last years game (I only had the demo, but friends had the game and we'd play it all the time). Is Winning Eleven some other soccre game? Hopefully the good reviews are an indication that this years game is even better.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) That's funny because they're having the exact opposite effect on me and most everyone else in the known Universe. That s*** is beyond annoying. The commercials are horrible. I think that guy has good standup but the actual commercials...terrible. THey don't even tell you anything about the show, nor are they entertaining. Plus I dont' think he's the type of person meant for TV.

I've always heard solid things about Tracy. I'm not saying he's the best manager in baseball, but he surely didn't deserve to get fired. I do understand the move though as a new front office deserves its chance to bring in its own guy as a coach.

If the club is going to go after an outfielder, I'd much rather go after the Cuban outfielder (Alexi Ramirez or whatever his name is).

QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) Japanese pitchers seem to work for about a year, but after that they usually loose their effectiveness. At least that's what I've always observed. The more the pitcher is seen, the easier he is to handle, for example Okajima was dominate in the first half of this year but after the AS break he wasn't very good. I guess I don't want a long term contract, or maybe if we did sign a Japanese pitcher we could trade him after next year. Saito has done a good job for a couple years now for the Dodgers (he's really old too). The Mariners old closer also had a number of quality years in the majors. Takatsu was probably more an exception (one year wonder, but he was also very old when he came over). I like the idea of this guy and would definitely be all about picking him up as a reliever.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) I love how Olsen was much more involved in this game. He can be such a huge weapon for our offense. I still don't know if he's using his speed to his full advantage but he's really improving with his blocks (which was a major weakness coming in) and his hands are just awesome for a TE. The guy has not only big play potential, but move the chain 3rd down potential as well (ie just getting into an open spot a few yards down and making the nice catch). Him and Clark are definitely one of the more talented TE duo's in the league and I'm greedy cause I want to see more and more of those two on the same field. I also love how the Bears are getting Bradley onto the field more (its going to pay off). He had a nice crossing pattern and was wide open on a play that Griese missed (he didn't see Bradley and eventually took a sack).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) I think thats the key in the 2nd half, we need to use both our TE's.. especially Olsen needs to be on field as much as possible. Not 2 mention keep pounding the ball with Benson, its important even if not getting yards that teams respect our ground game. I just hope the physical play (it was the first time they've been consistently physical all game; maybe the Chiefs game as well) can be a sign of things to come. With the additional running it set the tempo and may just get the line in a place where it will start opening up some more holes and getting there blcoks out into the second zone which could open the possibility of bigger runs. Benson didn't have a good game. I wouldn't call it awful. He had a couple good runs, but more bad runs than good runs. He was running too straight up and tenatively but at the same time the guy is getting hit almost every time at the LOS thanks to poor blocking. However, sticking to the run was HUGE and I think it will pay off in the coming weeks as we see this rushing attack wake up. I also noticed Benson starting running a bit more downfield late in the game, which may be a signing of him picking up confidence. Last season (down the stretch and in the playoffs) Benson was always running downfield and just doing awesome. We know he can do it, its a matter of him doing it this year and I really think this game will be a turning point and hopefully next week they can build on it and make more strides offensively as well as defensively and get to .500.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) Great win. There is a good chance the Bears can win 2 of their next 3 and be at .500 going into the bye. One game at a time though. The Bears won there first must win game of the season and they'll have another one against the Vikings on Sunday.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) So was every single player on the defense, they had 340 yards at halftime. But without those 2 strips, the competitive phase of this game would have been completed by halftime. A quick slant on a CB with a high ankle sprain, I expected him to get beat, but he was still a big enough of a vet to make a couple huge plays and as the game got going he seemed to get going much much better and ended up having a pretty strong game for a guy on one ankle. Briggs also started slow and than looked like he found his gear and got into a groove. Hopefully Vasher can make his way back this Sunday and the team can gradually continue to get healthier.
-
f*** yes. This game was baby steps forward. The offense wasn't great, but the play calling was so much better. They stuck to the run, Griese made some solid passes and they got the TE's more involved. It wasn't great, but it was enough and it got the offense definitely headed in the right direction (hopefully they can build on that offensive performance next week against the Vikings). The defense played its best game, despite a horrid first half. Tillman and Briggs seemed to get there speed back and Urlacher made a brief appearance in the game during the second half. It still isn't up to par, but again, it was a massive improvement over the past couple weeks. Lets build on this next week as we will have another must win game. If this team can win next week its back to .500 with a tough game in Philly (a team that will likely have its back to the wall as well). But it all starts next Sunday against the Vikings. Come on Bears...build on this game and lets keep improving and hopefully put together a winning streak (1 game at a time though)!!!!

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 11:25 PM) Can I call bulls*** now or just reserve judgement? I've seen bold statements before but this is hella bold. Not saying I agree or disagree for the record but you nor I don't know what goes on in a GM's head evaluating players and believe me there is a mixed opinion on that matter. I don't know if I buy that theory either. I think a team in the right situation would make that move. If the team had numerous young players and felt good about its lineup I could easily see it giving up a good young pitcher for a guy who was easily one of the better pitchers in the AL last year (put him on a better team and he'd have gotten cy young votes no doubt).

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) What about the 53 yards of offense isn't doing it for you? JC's 4-6 for 16 yards? I wonder if JC will even be qb'ing in the next couple weeks. I understand he's a sophmore but he doesn't seem to be able to do much anything down the field. Than again Iowa is onto about its 5th or 6th string WR's as there starters. -
Fifa comes out on Tuesday I think. Best freaking sports game there is.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) That was the worst dropped pass I have ever seen in my years of watching football(PSU/IOWA). No kidding. Iowa may just have as bad of an offense as Notre Dame. God its pathetic. -
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) Really, how do you know this, particularly the first part? If Guillen had an ungodly hatred for Sean Tracey I find it extremely hard to believe he would have pitched again for the White Sox, which he did. Guillen had threatened that he would do everything he could to prevent Tracey from ever playing in the bigs. He eventually got a talking to from the front office (I believe) and Ozzie did eventually back down from this. But at the time the kid got so much s*** thrown at him from Ozzie it was beyond ridiculous. He isn't the first young player nor will he be the last young player that will always have a bitter taste of Ozzie (at the same time I'm sure there are others that have played for him and love him to death). I have heard this from both Fathom and someone I know who played with Tracey at UCI (although the part about Shines was mainly from Fathom and the part about Tracey's distaste for Ozzie was from the person who played with Tracey). For the record I'm biased because I think Sean Tracey is one of the nicest players I've ever met and was also the best interview I've ever done.
