  1. Oh god....Rex has made so many strides. I can only hope that somehow its not super serious. Still, he was playing himself into a couple year contract and really was the least of the Bears concerns. The Bears need to rebuild the entire oline and really fix the dline (they can probably fix the dline with Tommie Harris and Dusty getting healthy but that is obviously a risk to see whether they can get back and stay healthy). I so hope Rex will be okay. Regardless I never ever want to see Griese play for the Bears (than again I recall saying that the first week I saw him). The guy is a f***ing bum. He just doesn't have NFL ability anymore.
  2. Liotta and Rodriguez were taken in the Major League portion of the RuleV? Or were the two of them taken in the Minor Leauge portion. If they were taken in the major league portion, I just don't see any way those two stay on a major league roster all season unless some team figures they can stick them on the DL for the full-season and keep them afterwards (I'd have to imagine there would be some sort of rule against that).
  3. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:50 AM) watch the 2girls1cup video! don't be afraid! you know you want to. also, I've heard it's fake. I read that it wasn't fake.
  4. Technically speaking this deal is not a done deal. 99% likely to happen so you never know.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) Now the question is, will Williams and Jerry have the stones to move out a popular player like Konerko. With missing out on all of the plan As. Moving a popular player like Konerko might scare them. I would love to see Konerko moved to Arizona or the Angels for something cheaper. But I dont see it happening. I still prefer a deal involving James Loney (or Kemp) and Jonathan Broxton (or Billingsley). I don't know if they would do it but I think the Sox could find a way to make it work. I also think the Sox could, and I say, could, probably make it more likely if they took Juan Pierre (I'm not saying I'd want to do it, but if it allowed the club to get Loney or Kemp and Broxton or Billinglsey I'd be totally down (even if it meant the Sox gave up a prospect along with Konerko or even someone like MacDougall). Still I buy into the basis of a Konerko deal that could get you those type of playes. Than use your money to get an outfielder (via trade or FA) and use some prospects to find a good pitcher.
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Google the BME pain olympics This makes 2 girls 1 cup look like a freaking cartoon. BME Pain Olympics = Unbelievably painful to watch.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) Honestly, if we trade Paulie, I would want Kotchman and a younger pitching spect. That would be ideal for me. In an ideal world the Sox could get both plus Figgins (that is if the Angels are depserate). I don't think they are, but that isn't to say the White Sox can't try to offer up other things to get the Angels to deal Figgins (I don't know if they would though). However, I agree with you, Kochman and a pitching prospect (Adenhart) would be a nice starting point.
  8. I'm gonna throw a name out there...Zach Jackson and Tony Gwynn Jr. Neither are top prospects both were high draft picks and neither have had a ton of success. I don't know if Jackson turns it around but he still has a projectable arm and Gwynn has some value. He has a solid swing and great defensive tools that would make him a valuable bench player. I think the Sox could do better than this type of package but this is just my guess at two names that are being discussed.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Other than Juan Pierre, who would you say is available as a leadoff guy? I think it would be a guy that no one has pegged on the board. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if they talked to teams about guys you never thought would be available (maybe Alexi Rios, Coco Crisp (not a new name), David Dejesus, Chone Figgins (not really a new name, but no rumors tied to him), Fukodome (if they just decide the hell with speed, just get OBP), Brian Roberts (the Sox have Richar but there have been rumblings before about moving Roberts to CF). I'm not saying they get any of these guys, but they could obviously try to go after them.
  10. My hope is that Kenny turns, decides to just find a leadoff guy and than goes all out to add one to two young starting pitchers that he likes (he can also swing Paulie for a bevy of solid young position players). Hell, with the Angels losing out on Cabrera and Johan it could very well mean that they would pay a bit heftier price for Konerko (although Hunter's bat may be all the Angels GM thought they needed, but personally speaking, I think they could use legit protection for Vladdy).
  11. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) From ESPN (and Steve Phillips so TIFWIW): Could the Sox top this? Would they want to? I don't know if the Sox would want to but that isn't that great of a package. Heilman is what he is and those sort of guys are a dime and dozen while Humber is a starting prospect with a great arm but numerous arm problems. Basically put you are trading for one truly valuable prospect. This would be a steal for the Mets. A package of Danks, Gio, and Sweeney would top that Mets package and that would be a steal from the Sox standpoint. I'm hoping that Kenny reacts to his club losing out on these offensive pieces and moves Koenrko for numerous quality players and than trades for a stud young starter and opts to build through a great rotation hoping a cast of 9 solid players (many of which have upside) who play great defense, have solid team speed and a bit of pop can compete (I think it could).
  12. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) Really? Only feels like last season. My appologizies. My time spent on this board tonight is starting to take it's toll. I am just worn out. The life of a DH sox fan. Too emotionally involved. No worries. He was drafted the same year as Ian Kennedy and last season was his first full season with the Dbacks (he was pretty good IIRC). I'm still bummed that Kennedy didn't fall to the Sox two years ago (I was all about him since about his freshman year at USC).
  13. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) You know. You're toying with me right now. I mention LaPorta a lot on here and routinely get shot down. It's fun and I won't mention the story behind it because I sense people are getting aggitated with my man-crush on him, when it is merely just a great opportunity I see to acquire a guy like him. Also, I was informed he can't be dealt for a year since he was drafted. That I believe is true but I saw a report that the A's and Dbacks were discussing deals but talks didnt go far because they were insisting on Scherzer (Mizzou boy and guy I would love to have here). So I am not sure what the actual rule is as far as time before getting dealt. Scherzer wasn't in this past draft, he was drafted the year before so he is eligible to be traded.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Gwynn Jr. wouldn't even be in the majors if not for who his father is. That is a bunch of BS. His bat may not pan out but the guy would make almost any bench in baseball based on his defensive skill set and defensive versatility.
  15. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) Bill Hall is someone the Sox are very very interested in. He could play CF and the Brewers still have a major need in the pen. I know I'd rather have MacDougall closing than Riske closing (Mac has actually suceeded at that spot). Could a MacDougall/Crede/Prospect for Hall trade work out (of course Hall doesn't exactly fill the top of the order). I think it is more likely you'd see Crede for a starting pitcher or a prospect or two (not a great prospect).
  16. I can't see the Sox having any interest for Luke Scott unless of course they are trading Quentin elsewhere. That would be more than fine value though, its just its not a need unless Sox could get a 3rd team involved. I like the idea of Burke as a bench guy who will be around a couple years and has the talent to start (really was awful last year though). I just think Crede can get you more than that.
  17. On the other side, the Astros would definitely have interest in Crede. I just don't think Crede for Burke is fair value (Sox would need something else, imo).
  18. Interesting. Burke would be a nice backup option at 2nd and he could also fill in in the outfield. Great defense and if Richar doens't pan out can start (plus he probably could platoon if necessary). I just wouldn't give up much of value for Burke (ie any top flight talent). I also think this would mean the Sox have to get rid of Crede/Uribe. I'm going to guess a reliever for Burke deal if it were to happen (one or two of the guys that Kenny has soured on).
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Ozzie was quoted in the Florida paper about how Cabrera wants to play for him if he can't play for the Marlins. He also reported Cabrera has been working out with a personal trainer everyday and has dropped 15 lbs. since the end of the season. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...1204marlins.htm Haha, we posted this within seconds of each other.
  20. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...204marlins.html This is an article talking about how Ozzie has commented on how much he'd love Cabrera to play for the Sox (but that he can't say much due to tampering). Also, Cabrera has indicated that he would love to come to Chicago. I don't know if the Sox have the talent to get a deal done nor do I have any clue what the hell the rest of the roster would look like after making such a trade, but you are talking about one of the premier players in the game and it isn't often when you have a chance to acquire a 24 year old who is already better than almost every offensive player in the game. I also say for the Sox to contend, Kenny would have to have some money to make another signing (as well as extend Cabrera) and be able to move Konerko and Contreras to fill up whatever holes are left from the moves (and in Contreras case just free up payroll to give money to guys who need it more).
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) It's funny, D-Backs fans don't seem to mind about this that greatly, mainly because they don't think Quentin will ever become the player he was slated to be. And I find that crazy considering the injury he had in 2007, his age, relative experience etc. and he'll be hitting in a very good hitters park. Carter and Cunningham could become quite good everyday players for the D-Backs eventually, but we've gotten 2 players in Richar and Quentin, who are young, cheap, and can contribute now, and most importantly, offer the team the payroll flexibility it so desperately needs considering some of the salaries some of the older more established players make. Maybe he looked like Brian Anderson at the plate I remember seeing Quentin play a good deal in college (number of Fullerton/Stanford games I saw) and a decent amount with the Dbcaks (watch quite a few Dbacks Dodgers game in general as well as the ocassional Dbacks game just to watch one of my favorite players Young) and always though when I saw him that he seemed to have a pretty solid swing.
  22. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) He is. I called around to find out. By all reports he is doing very well. Sweet
  23. Actually he is not able to sign a contract till like March due to being franchised (at least i think that is how it works). Although the Bears may be able to sign him but than lose the right to the franchise tag for a couple of years (I forget, but there is some sort of penalty). Rosenhaus has been seen at Halas hall a bit more lately and that could very well be due to Briggs and the Bears. I know Briggs recently said as long as the Bears offer him a fair deal he will retire a Bear.
