  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:20 PM) So if Kobe won't go to Chicago without Deng being there (I think I've read that), and the Lakers won't accept a trade without Deng in it...uhh, am I missing something? That is where the so called third team will come in.
  2. Apparently ESPN SportsCenter is calling it the trade that didn't go through. Basically put it was a three way deal between Sacremento, Chicago, and LA that involved both Ben's heading out of town.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) IF healthy, and that's the big if with acquiring Crisp, he would probably be the perfect #2 hitter for us. He could hit .280/.300 with an OBP around the .350/.360 which is exactly what this lineup is. I wouldn't trade Carter for him. But I'd probably trade any prospects outside of our top 5 or so to get a deal done. And I would try to include Brian Anderson in a deal if Boston were interested. There is no way the Red Sox wouldn't do a deal that involved Sweeney/McCulloch, imo. I think the Sox would make that deal as well. I wonder what the Royals would think of a deal involving Sweeney and a pitching prospect (even if that spect was Egbert or Broadway). I think they would bite. THe Sox would than have to find a way to get a SS in here, such as Furcal without giving up the farm (ie Carter/DSL/Gio/Shelby).
  4. So apparently Magic Johnson, VP of the Lakers, came out and said no deal will happen with the Bulls due to there reluctance to give up Luol Deng. There was also some rumors about a deal with Phoenix/Chicago/LA that would involve Marion heading to LA, Kobe to Chicago, and Gordon/Other Bulls headed to Phoenix.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I just remembered someone who we talked about before... David DeJesus. Him or Crisp would both be the exact pickups I'd be a fan of. I also realize Crisp had a down year, but in 2006 he was banged up and those injuries really effected his production. I don't have an explanation for 06 but I think he's talented and he has had more than just one good year (05 was rock solid, but 04 was good and the early part of 06 was darn good as well IIRC). Plus he has above average range out there.
  6. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) I was going to ask the basketball experts, if we lose Hinrich and Gordon, who will play pg? Or is that not even a big of deal once we get Kobe It wouldn't be a big deal and duhon is more than capable of being a league average starting pg (especially with Kobe/Deng and the rest of the squad relatively intact).
  7. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) I'm somewhat surprised Tony Pena's name hasn't been mentioned as a candidate in Pittsburgh. Maybe it will now that he didn't get the Yankee job. I would think Pena could be an option as a bench coach in Chicago if he doesn't join Girardi's staff or get another major league job. He could also go to New York with Torre, but If he did that he'd be the 3rd guy as everyone knows Mattingly is going to be brought in and groomed to be Torre's eventual replacement in LA. Plus, IIRC, the Sox have a great relationship with Pena and have in the past offered him job opportunities.
  8. Erstad is a perfectly acceptable 4th outfielder if the Sox bring in a top flight CF prospect or young top notch cfer. If they go with a more proven guy in left I'd rather just let someone like Jerry Owens or Brian Anderson get the backup spot as they will be cheaper. Still, I have no problem with Erstad on the Sox its just he can't possibly be doing anything more than being a defensive replacement/pinch runner/once a week at most starter.
  9. Good for Brian. I wish him the best. He got completely screwed by the Sox organization and I hope he goes somewhere else and kicks ass. I'm not saying he didn't put himself in a spot where he ended up deserving some of the heat he took but at the same time, the Sox could have handled things a lot better.
  10. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) According to Passan from Yahoo Sports, the Sox are not even in the top 10 to acquire A-Rod (my comments in parantheses): 1. LAA 2. LAD 3. SFG (I don't see it) 4. CHC (Spent a lot last year) 5. NYY (Not after the Opt Out) 6. NYM (Um, Wright and Reyes) 7. DET 8. BOS ( 9. FLA (Not enough payroll) 10. TEX (Why would they do it again?) I would say it is between LAD, LAA, and BOS. With the Sox and Tigers as dark horses. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ApWW...oo&type=lgn Right now I think it is a 3 horse race: Giants (where I think he goes) Angels Dodgers (team most apt to afford him as they have so many quality young players already in the lineup) Cubs (they spent a lot but they could definitely go for him; ownership change probably prevents it)
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) Once KW sees the crazy contracts that Rowand and Hunter are going to get, he'll trade for Crisp (and then b**** to the press about the market). Crisp is a great defensive player, but he's not nearly the quality hitter we need to add to the lineup. If you do trade for him, you better upgrade at SS. If you can pick up a Furcal to go with Crisp and keep the rest of the lineup pretty status quo I think you'd be in good shape. The only question is whether the Sox stick with Contreras/Garland in that rotation (as Kenny does have a chance to move those guys and be a little risky while setting the team up for potential success in 08 but also in the upcoming years). Furcal Crisp Konerko Thome Dye AJP Crede Fields Richar That isn't that bad of a lineup and you have a legitimate 1-2 punch with some speed as well as a relatively fast 9 hole hitter (plus Fields has good speed). Than obviously there is the slugs in between that.
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) I just opened the latest Sports Illustrated and on page 32 Joe Sheehan of Baseball Prospectus said the Red Sox will most definitley trade Coco Crisp and the White Sox seem like the likely candidate. It has Boston sending Crisp to the Sox for 1B Chris Carter. Carter was third in Class A Sally League with 25 homers. This seems like a KW type move to me... Crisp out in LF sounds good. If KW decides to bring Rowand back we would have one hell of a defensive outfield. I wouldn't be a fan of moving Chris Carter for Crisp. However, I'd be all about moving Kyle McCulloch and Brandon Allen for Crisp. Allen has just as much power potential as Carter but had a few developmental hiccups along the way and just doesn't grade out quite as well as Carter (who I consider close to untouchable, not because he's a guaranteed star, but because you won't get what I consider even value for him). Still Crisp would fit in well and its a name I like a lot more than any of the other ones I've heard (Jenkins/Arow/Jones/Torri)
  13. We've changed it so you don't need to register.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 06:26 PM) Ya the link's not workin for me either. Both. Currently off air it says. EDIT: Cos of daylight savings. Silly me. Andrew its late notice, but we are going to hit up the FutureSox segment next week. I think I made mention of it somewhere hoping you'd read it but don't know if you saw the post or not.
  15. s***, I actually liked Anderson's comments.
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 10:13 AM) Any word on if Toby Hall had or will have his surgery this offseason? I'm 99% sure that answer is no. He rehabbed instead and will not have the surgery unless he reinjures the arm.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) It would have to be a damn good prospect, and unfortunately, we only have two of those. Like what I said about Garland, you can't trade DLS or Gio for a one year contract. Carter is considered a damn good prospect, so there is at least 3 in the Sox system. Poreda (who is untradeable right now as he was drafted this past year) is also very highly thought of.
  18. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) The Braves site says Renteria is due to become a free agent after this coming season (2008). If that is true, Detroit is giving up two talented young players for a rental. The CF prospect is extremely highly regarded. What this speaks to, as much as anything, is the Tigers drafting. They take CF prospects just about every year, just as the Phillies do. Speedy 4/5 tool CF prospects can net just about anything you want in trade. They still have Maybin so this kid was a tradeable asset. Not to be a downer but meanwhile the White Sox sit with Brian Anderson, who might fetch a middle relief prospect at best. All we can do is hope the new scouting direction will give the White Sox more results. It also speaks to Atlanta's scouting and development because I believe they've got someone ready to step in. The Braves have multiple guys ready step in at SS. In fact they have already gotten pretty good production out of at least one of thoes guys (Yunel Escobar) down the stretch last season.
  19. I would have preferred Renteria to Tejada. Simply put I think Tejada is more likely to break down, plus I don't care much about power as I think the sox still have plenty of pop in there lineup. I'm more concerned with the table setters. Furcal is still my top choice, especially if he could be had for prospects not named Gio/DSL/Carter. The Sox obviously could also offer a veteran starter, but if they add Arod they probably wouldn't want to add a starter that makes much money.
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) The Dodgers could turn into the Yanks/Red Sox cast off team. If Torre/Don make there way to LA, does A-Rod follow??? They could really use a power bat and with all the other young players already in their lineup they could very easily afford to add Arod's large contract without having a ridiculous payroll (plus in LA they have a large stadium and generate good revenue). I think the Dodgers could do this while moving both Pierre/Furcal (they have younger alternatives at both of those positions).
  21. Very interesting . Are either of those prospects considered A prospects? Jurjens has a pretty good arm, but I don't think he grades out as an A prospect (unless he's considered super projectable and that could be the case as I'm not fully up to date on Tigers prospects). He's also relatively young for his age (21 and has already pitched in 7 major league games). Gorky's is an extremely young outfielder with a ton of speed and decent numbers in his first full season. He doesn't hit for much power and the only way he'd amount to being an A level prospect is if he is very projectable with scouts thinking his power numbers would really take off. This seems like a pretty good overall move for the Tigers. The Braves are getting some solid spects but nothing top notch (like i said, I could be off as I'm not a genius when it comes to the Tigers system). I am guessing a similar package from the Sox would have probably taken an extra prospect but it could have been done without giving up Gio/DLS. Broadway/McCulloch/Egbert could have been the pitcher (note that I think none of them are as good as the pitching prospect the Tigers gave up) with Carter potentially being the other piece (he is better than the other prospect). I also could imagine the Sox could maybe find a way to give up a combo of pitching prospects not named Gio/DLS and a lesser position prospect.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 01:03 PM) How about jason bay as a possible candidate for trade aquisition. He had a down year, but has put up monster numbers in his two previous seasons. It is believed that the Pirates will look to unload him. I've been a big fan of Bay, but I really think the Sox have enough sluggers in the middle. The only way I really think getting new sluggers make sense (such as Bay or even Arod) is if they plan on moving out some of there older sluggers for more athletic, younger sluggers. I'm all for this plan as I think the Sox should have moved away from Konerko/Dye/Thome and found a way to get younger in the offensive core. Guys like Bay would be perfect fits like that while you work on grooming Fields into developing into a core player as well. I also feel that Arod would really fit in well to this, especially if you were able to use Konerko/Dye/Thome to get other young sluggers that could develop into core players (guys that are better already than Fields with lots of potential...Bay could be one of those guys, but obviously he already has a salary which makes it harder to fit Arod in). Unfortunately Dye is resigned now and Thome doesn't seem to be going anywhere so Konerko is the only option of who they would move and in all honesty Konerko is the one that figures to stay solid for longer than the other two (just my opinion and I think you could make a case that Dye would hold up as well but I think in general Paulie is the better offensive player).
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) LMAO at the Yankees "rebuilding" being an excuse for opting out. Even if Posada, Rivera et al, do not return, does anyone think the Yankees won't go out and spend that money on other players? I see the Yankees making a move after Johan Santana right now. They could put together an offer of Wang, Cano, and another one of the young pitchers, and still have the cash to extend Santana easily. Apparently it was based on what Hal Steinbrenner said. I think the Yanks do plan on rebuilding a bit. Hell they started rebuilding a couple years back when they put a much bigger commitment on there farm system. However, the definition of rebuilding to the Yanks/Red Sox is different than that of 95% of the major league. The Yanks are really going to be a rock solid club (with a winning mixture of youth & vets). Hughes/Kennedy/Joba all look like guys that are projectable. Melky/Cano are both quality young players and they have another class of youngsters coming up. They will also have a lot of contracts coming off the books (some pretty nasty ones) which will allow them to go out and get new, potentially younger guys.
