  1. I'd make that move in a heartbeat because it provides the Sox leverage in the outfield (they won't have to overpay for anyone) and if they do get one of the Cfers you just have Crisp play left and he'll be amongst the best defensive left fielders out there.
  2. Sharpley has all day and throws the TD pass. He could have probably ran it in too.
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) Announcer just said "This is the stuff of which Notre Dame legends are made" in reference to Sharpley's 4th and 14 completion. Um... you are 1-7 and playing Navy. And ND is 1-7. Sharpley has been better and ND probably wins a few more games if he was at the helm all season. Navy gets the TD in OT.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) Seriously what the hell is he thinking there. One of the dumbest coaching decisions I have ever seen. It is one thing if the kicker was hurt or if your kicker sucked and you had Brady Quinn and Smardtza/McKnight but this offense blows and he goes for it. HORRID.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) ND going for it on 4th down despite being in FG range and Navy stops them. Awful decision by Weiss. And an amazing play by the Navy LB. Ya that was an awesome sack by the player. Games headed to OT (I love college fb OT). Come on Irish.
  6. what the f***. Weiss goes for it on 4th and 8 when they could have kicked a 42 YD field goal for the win. Terrible.
  7. Zibikowski with a nice return and the Irish are in business to retake the lead.
  8. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) Padres decline Mackowiak's option for 2008. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...mackowiak.0127/ Do the Sox pick him back up? I'd love to have him as a 4th option, especially if the Sox find a young guy to start somewhere in the outfield (ie a Melky Cabrera or someone else).
  9. What if the Sox offered up Crede and a bullpen arm like Thornton (whom I'd think the Yanks would love to have) plus a prospect for Melky and I think you have a deal. In fact you may be able to get Melky & Betemeit for that sort of package and if the Yanks want Uribe (as a replacement for Betemeit) you include him in the deal (I would think Juan would be a moveable piece, albeit he would have little trade value for a lot of teams.
  10. f*** yes....I'm watching my recorded version of the Iowa/NU game and damn is Christensen kicking ass. I realize the game is over (and I have no idea what the final score is) but right now for me Iowa just took a 10 point lead on a Simms TD. But damn, Christensen seems to be showing off the skills that made him a pretty highly touted recruit. He's really handled all the heat he's gotten for the poor offense all season and is really starting to make strides. So are the Hawkeyes freshman receiving core (good lord is that WR core going to be ridiculous next year if they get some of there suspended players back and this crop stays healthy). The Oline will be top notch with the only major question being who will run the ball for them next year (and what will happen with the defense since the defense is an older unit while the offense is pretty much all freshman/sophmores).
  11. Bulls will get there first win of the season tonight.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) DeSalvo sucks. I'd have no problem with a Crede for Damon trade, as long as the Yanks throw in some money. The more I think about it the more I like a Crede for Damon deal. Damon is still solid and provides the Sox with something they vastly need (a top of the oder threat). I realize he's on the downhill but he'd still provide the Sox with stability and he'd be an above average defensive left fielder. You have Fields at 3rd, find a CFer via FA, and than pick up a SS that could be your two hole hitter (or pick up Rowand and let him be your 2 hole hitter and trade for a prospect that is pigeonholed or stuck...maybe go after one of the Braves shortstop prospects).
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) You don't lose any draft picks for Type B now I didn't realize there was a change made, but I just read that in the Trib article as well. Thanks for the info Gene
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) Possible future White Sox: Torii Hunter: A Aaron Rowand: A Barry Bonds: A Mike Cameron: B Jose Guillen: B Andruw Jones: B Luis Castillo: B Omar Vizquel: B David Eckstein: B Scott Linebrink A Giving up draft picks for any of those guys would be terrible. In Bonds case you wont' give up a draft pick because the Giants won't offer Bonds arbitration. But geeze, if the Sox sign Hunter or Rowand & Eckstein the club will have little draft picks. Not only will those two signings help cripple the franchises future, but they will also cripple the system with a loss of early picks.
  15. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) Why will Crisp improve? A lot of people say he will, but why? What has he shown lately to give anyone that impression. He's been horrible at the plate the last two seasons. Not that I want either at their prices, but I'd much rather have Castillo than Crisp. They are very similar players (good speed, good defense), but Castillo is clearly more productive. The main issue with Crisp is health. He hasn't been healthy and that lack of health really effected his production the past season or so. Now there is obviously no guarantee he regains his health but this is a guy that can be had without giving up a top prospect for. He is easily better than what we had in CF or LF last year and would add much needed speed and youth to this club (no he's not incredibly young, but he's still on the right side of 30). s***, as far as I'm concerned unless Kenny brings in numerous guys under 30, I don't want the Sox to touch anyone over 30 unless they are a reliever or a bench player (If they just go out and add more 30+ year old vets this team will be the Oriole's and fast). Go out and get agressive, give up what you need to for Dejesus/Crisp/Bay/Furcal (although he's older than the other's mentioned)/Khalil. Than swing Contreras for something and stick it out with Garland (and just reap the draft picks and hope he pitches his ass off and you can actually come to terms with him). Unless of course you get an awesome deal for Jon. Bottom line is Kenny shoudl try to win but he should be trying to win without mortgaging the entire future and by acquiring guys like Dejesus/Crisp/Bay/Furcal you aren't mortaging the future as you can build around these guys in 09 and on too (even though you are giving up prospects and in Bay's case top notch prospects or major league talent such as Garland/Contreras in the case of Furcal). Bottom line, Kenny, please don't be a f***ing idiot and bring in more and more veterans. You can win next year by bringing in younger players that fit the Sox needs (even if it means being all over the trade lines). I'm not talking rooks, just solid young players (that may not fit in where they are anymore) that can help the SOx do what Kenny thinks they can (win next year) and if the Sox don't win next year, you now have a good core of young players to use along with Fields and some of the Sox young pitching to help the Sox contend in 09/10/11. If Kenny does what I think he'll do, this team will be cellar dwellers for years.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) Also, there's talk that Jose Guillen will opt out of his contract in Seattle and become a free agent, he'd be a great fit for LF IMO. If Guillen became available, I'd be all for moving Crede now, sliding Fields to 3rd and than having the Sox find a way to trade for Furcal and pick up a solid CFer (even if that means Crisp).
  17. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) I actually think that if they wanted the Sox could get Betemit in a Crede deal rather easily. If the Yankees are showing interest, that's great. They need a 3B, but they are set at SS and 2B and Betemit holds little value with them. Throw in some turd from AAA along with Joe and get Betemit and be done with it... I don't think the Yanks would worry too much about dealing Betemit. Seriously. I realize Crede is hurt but he's been a starter in this league for a number of years and two season ago he was one of the best 3rd baseman in all of baseball (no he wasn't the best or even top 5, but he was right below that 2 years ago). Betemeit (while I like him a lot) has shown great power potential but has never had a full time starting job anywhere. You all vastly underrate Joe. I realize the back injury is a major if, but the Sox would still be able to get Betemeit for Crede straight up. I dont' know Betemeit's contract but I'd do the move if he's under wraps for another few years (if he isn't I wouldn't because Crede is better than Wilson). I still think the Sox need to find a way to get speed and improved OBP. I'm a fan of Dejesus & Furcal in Chicago (even though Furcal hasn't had the greatest OBP in his career, he's a good hitter). If you can do that without giving up Gio/DSL/Carter than it sounds good to me.
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) I think it is possible to acquire both... but that is proably wishful thinking. It clearly is, but having Crede in the lineup with Fields in LF makes a lot more sense to me. However, if you aren't able to acquire a top of the order hitter at the SS spot (ie Furcal) than I would have no problem adding in two speedy outfielders that we could slide into the outfield and have hit 1/2 (ie Crisp & Dejesus..both of whom are signed to more than fair deals and with both of them along with Dye you are talking about a pretty solid defensive outfield, even if it does lack pop). You would than move Crede and plug Fields into 3rd and hope you can get something solid for Joe (maybe Crede & someone for a SS prospect that you can put in the bottom part of your lineup and groom). I really have no problem with two outfielders that don't hit for much power, considering you'd still have Dye/Konerko/Thome/Fields who all have good power (and if Uribe stays him as well).
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) I think it had to do with Wallace not fitting into the triangle offense very well. Wallace is a good passing big that plays great defense so I'm sure he fits into the triangle.
  20. Did Kobe veto the deal because Ben was going? That would have been a fantastic deal for Chicago, imo, as they would have had the flexibility to go out and pick up a center via trade.
