3 Way trade????
QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) I think the fragile psyche of Count and Duque make them fixtures in some regard. I also do not think a team will take on their salary. I get the feeling the Yanks are paying a good chunck of Count's salary which keeps him cheap for us. Sox are paying roughly 6 mill a year for Cont. It may even be 7, I forget exactly, but its far from cheap. Of course if Jose pitches like he did early in the year it would be well worth it.

Wunsch's Season Is Over.
Total bust. He's such a quality individual. Its also another huge loss for the Dodgers.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) The larger point is, could a deal involving those two key figures be made? It could include a LHP like Scott Erye, other players, who knows. I mentioned Scott Eyre once. He has good numbers, Sox are at least semi familiar with him, and I'm sure the Giants would be willing to deal him for 2 mid-level guys.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) It doesn't make sence. Rangercal offers stats showing he pwns some pitcher but does that mean he blows vs the rest??? Thats precisely it. A team has way more than just one pitcher. Plus just think, Juan's stats are often times based heavily on last years performances. Its not like he played in the AL for years and years like Omar did.

3 Way trade????
You could also look at this another way. Sox could keep Zach Day as the 5th starter, allowing them to package one of Cont or Duque and some prospects to another team for a pitcher and than be able to lock up said pitcher to a long term deal (ie AJ Burnett). You give up a guy like Duque, and two good prospects and a mid-level for Burnett. Sox than insert Day into the 5th spot (they still have Bmac as the potential 6th guy cause he's the one guy you don't ever offer...also who knows if Florida would accept) and than you now free up 4.5 million or so that Duque was set to make, meaning that you only really increase payroll by 5.5 million and offer AJ 10 mill a year. They could also do this to acquire another player who may have a higher salary. Just throwing it out there.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) I agree with the idea that Uribe fits better than Crede. Crede cant play Ozzie ball,he's slow and is not going to be here next year anyway! I'm starting to see Crede make the adjustments and I think he's going to be big for the club down the stretch. Unless the Sox get Chavez and Zito in some blockbuster deal, I don't see anyone other than Crede starting at 3rd for the Sox.

TRADE THREAD III ~July 9 - July 15
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 04:29 AM) I'll be the first to pose a question or two. So here goes: 1] how would you feel about a trade involving basically, Omar Vizquel and Juan Uribe? 2] Would it take say a bullpen arm like Bajenaru along with Uribe to make it worth SF's while? 3] Would SF even want Uribe [though getting a 25 yr old who can start at both SS and 2B is hard to find]? Good lord...if the Sox traded the two straight up I'd be sick, let alone give something else. Juan Uribe >>>> Omar Vizquel (when were talking about trade value...Giants would make that deal in a heartbeat and I don't think the Sox would). However, the Sox could potentially give up a guy like Uribe if they were also getting Schmidt. Personally I'd go more for picking up Zach Day and packaging him with a couple minor leaguers for AJ.

3 Way trade????
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) They've got to be just looking at the numbers. Explain it to them this way, Zach Day = Kirk Saarloos He's better than Saarloos, imo. Those that are just looking at numbers are dead wrong on Zach Day, when the kid is healthy he can pitch and he's a much better option this year than Brandon McCarthy. I think this would be a very good move assuming the Sox aren't giving up anything too grand. The only thing is I can't see the Sox throwing cash into this deal because thats not there MO. This would be a good move because it gives the Sox a much needed insurance option (plus when healthy he's a good pitcher) not to mention he could also be packaged up with a good prospect for something else.

Sickels looks at Top 20 Sox Prospects
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) In his sixth season of A-ball he was. He's too old for the list because he was playing in A-ball, not AAA. If he has a great second-half in Charlotte, he may start moving into the picture near the bottom of the list, but after that many years of toiling in the minors, it takes quite a move for someone like that to make a prospect list. Ya, if he ends up hitting even close to what he was doing down in WS than he'll quickly move up the list as a guy who has a future in the bigs. How much of a future, who knows, but I'm not going to even think about that until he destroys the International League

TRADE THREAD II ~ July 2 - July 8
With a day of now cooling, I've moved the AJ Burnett thread into here. However, later today I'm probably going to open up a Trade Rumor Subforum on PHT where people can have seperate threads for seperate rumors. We'll kind of experiment with it during the month of July.

Pike/AD for Finley?
This sounds pretty solid to me. I'm probably Gordon's biggest detractor cause I think he's quite possibly one of the most over-rated players in the NBA (cause he's so stinking one dimensional) and this would give the Bulls a good shooting guard to go with Kirk and Deng and you'd be able to keep Gordon coming off the bench (I think it will be a while before he ever learns to play enough defense to start). This also means Kirk can go back to guarding PG's, which will be at least semi easier for him. Deng is a quality defender (imo) and lets see what Finley can do when he's pressed to defend. Defense isn't necessarily having extra skill, its more putting the effort in and when your in a system where everyone else plays defense, your gonna be motivated to play, imo (I could be wrong though). However, the key to this deal is the Bulls finding an additional bigman. If they could add a Donyell or someone like Dalembert than I'd do this in a heartbeat. One thing, I don't know the status of Finley's contract, but this would end the Bulls chances of having money two years from now or at least I think it would.

Gammons
Cleveland may be on the list because a lot of people had them being this good. I mean people can be surprised at the Sox but at the same time you had to look at the team and realize if some of there guys lived up to their potenital that they'd have a pretty damn good team. Of course you could say that about a lot of clubs.

Sickels looks at Top 20 Sox Prospects
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Lemon was a joke as dan alluded to. He's my adopt a prospect because I absolutely hated the draft pick last year. Valido I put that low because I'm completely unsure of his defense. What's it like? I've admittedly never seen the kid play. I thought I remembered him being the least highly thought of in terms of glove of our middle infield prospects. I see he only has 7 errors, but that means nothing to me. When Valido was drafted he was thought of as major league ready defensively. I figured it was just a typical bs hype line but I remember seeing him play a few games and sitting there going damn. The one thing all of the Sox good middle infield prospects have in common is that they are silky smooth defensively. They all have mental lapses on the more routine stuff and have to work on consistency, but at the same time they all have good range and arms and in Valido's case he is a very smart defensive player. I saw a few times where he made some real heady plays. Of course my favorite thing watching was down in WS when Gonzo and Lopez were a double play tandem. Could lord could you see some plays made there.

Sickels looks at Top 20 Sox Prospects
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Welcome to the internet. I just want to know how many of these people in the comments that are impressed or unimpressed by certain prospects have ever seen them play in person. I'm guessing only a couple. You think Sickels has actually seen any of these guys? Ummmm... no. Has Sickels seen Fancisco Hernandez, who, incidentally had made the adjustments and had starting hitting the ball much more consistently the 2-3 weeks before Lucy came off the DL??? Wes Whisler rated that high to begin with? He hasn't been healthy and neither has Lumsden. Rogo is a better prospect than most anyone gives him credit for. If Young ends up showing a more consistent approach at the plate and hitting in the .280 range at the end of the year, how is he not in the top 3 prospects? I have him around 5 right now and I have him much higher than Sweeney in terms of ceiling. Anyway, any jabroni with a computer can now post top 10 and 20 lists despite never seeing any of these guys play. Just because his name is John Sickels doesn't mean he isn't just blabbing about something he doesn't have first hand knowledge of... No doubt after seeing that list I was left shaking my head. I don't know what the hell he was watching or even reading.

TRADE THREAD II ~ July 2 - July 8
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Ok right now, if you could deal El Duque, Damaso Marte and Sean Tracey for a locked up A.J Burnett would you do it? Abso-freakin-lutely I would. Ya, like I said I'd deal them Bmac instead of Tracey and throw in Owens as well if he were locked up. I think Burnett is awesome.

TRADE THREAD II ~ July 2 - July 8
Also want to say, Sox are going to make two moves at most, imo. One for a starter, one for a reliever. The only exception to that is if a position player gest injured or if the Sox get Vizquel. That or if some super star offensive player is available and Kenny can get him. You know damn well Kenny is looking to add one more very very good player. Burnett is the best guy on the market and would be a sweet pickup.

TRADE THREAD II ~ July 2 - July 8
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) I hope so. That's what made the FG trade so great, getting FG locked up. If they lock him up long term, I'd be so stinking giddy over that deal. Heck, anyone think they'd have some interest in Duque. Sox are frustrated with Duque, they deal Duque, Marte, and say Gio or Tracey plus a guy like Owens. The deal gives the Marlins some help in the future but it also helps the Marlins this year because they get a guy that can pitch for them down the stretch (Duque) as well as Marte who can be an asset for them in the pen. And if they lock him up long term and the Marlins were sticklers, if worse came to worse I'd give them an Anderson or Bmac instead of Gio or Tracey to get it done. This is only if he were signed long term or at least if the Sox were going to give it a gung ho effort. Than they could turn their attention to picking up a lefty reliever.

TRADE THREAD II ~ July 2 - July 8
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) I just think it's more likely the Sox would deal an Anderson or Sweeney before McCarthy at the moment, even though he's bombed in his brief time up here. Of course if the Marlins wanted someone like Chris Young or Jerry Owens without us giving up B-Mac, than that makes things a whole lot more interesting. I'd probably trade Anderson or Sweeney before trading Young.
