  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Did anyone watch Schmidt pitch tonight?? I left and went out after the sox game so I didn't watch him pitch tonight but I'm still of hte opinion that he'll get better every start cause his stuff is there it's just the fact of him getting healthy which will allow his control to get better. Ya, I watched a few innings against the Dodgers. The Dodgers didn't make much good contact against him, however Schmidt really battled with his control and had a pretty high pitch count most of the game. Mechanics looked fluid though and he was improving as the game went on. Fastball looked good and like I said, Dodgers weren't squaring up much against him (than again Dodgers haven't done that against much anyone as of late). Still I liked the way he pitched and I think he's getting close to reaching 100%.
  2. As far as Wang goes, thats too bad for him. I've watched him pitch a couple outings and I must say he impressed the hell out of me. 1st time I saw him was in a game against the Cubs and I didn't even know who he was. Quickly I realized that the type of stuff he had. He's the best guy the Yanks have developed in some time (I honestly have no idea how they got him, but I'm assuming they signed him a year or two ago and had him in the minors). But f*** the Yanks.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) Schilling looke extra plump tonight. He's serving up fat ones too. He was brutal down in the minors (from everything I heard) and I think there is a decent chance he may be done. He's still having a lot of trouble with that ankle. But if anyone can tough through the pain (and trust me, he's still in pain) than it would be Curt. I just question whether he'll ever regain full strenght of that ankle.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) Where are you guys getting these rumors from? Is there a certain site? Padres have considered moving Nevin for quite a while now, and Wells fit well in San Diego. Nevin isn't well liked by the fans in San Diego. I don't remember the particulars of what he did, but to say the least, he fell out of love within the city and to a lesser extent the organization. He always plays hard and is a good player though. However, they can easily move Klesko over to 1st (which is where he prefers playing). They are also totally fed up with Burroughs and would package him in a deal, but they are worried they won't get enough for him (cause his trade value is pretty low).
  5. Schmidt is the guy I'm falling back in love with. AJ has stellar stuff too, but I think he costs major league parts and quite frankly, I'm not dealing more then one or two guys, definately not Contreras. Duque can go, but Contreras is and should stay on the south side. As far as VA suggested deal of Contreras/Uribe for Schmidt/Vizquel. Thats a pretty fair deal straight up, especially if the Giants are looking towards the future. Throw in a mid-level prospect and it gets the deal done. Problem is I don't gie up Contreras or Uribe. However, I'd be more then willing to throw two of the Sox top prospects, a middle infield prospect (Valido/Gonzo/Lopez), a mid tier guy, and Willie Harris.
  6. Hey Rex I'm working on creating a photoalbum type deal for FutureSOx. Would it be cool if I used those pictures in it (i'd give you or whoever took them proper credit of course)

    QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) How's the new Fall Out Boy album? I bought the last one and thought it was garbage and gave it away, but i heard the new one's supposedly better. Also, are you going to see Flogging Molly on the 13th? I'll be up in Milwaukee seeing them the 11th and then on my way to Reel Big Fish and Coldplay in Wisconsin that weekend... I love the new Fall Out Boy CD. Definately a keeper in my book (of course I liked the previous one as well...this one's better though). I'm out in California so I won't be at the show on the 13th. However, I'm seeing them on the 29th or 30th down in San Diego @ Screet Scene along with Rise Against, The Killers, The Used, Death Cab and a few others. I've just recently gotten into Flogging Molly. At first I thought it was weird, but now it just rocks.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) That's why I've been saying that I think if Burnett is traded here a deal would get done with him quickly because they aren't going to need much next year and they'll be able to throw some money at him. Think of it this way, you add Burnett lets say let Pauly walk(which I think is far from a sure thing) rework Thomas's deal which I believe most of us think'll happen, Dye to first base and you basically have your lineup, rotation and most of hte bullpen intact with our top 4 arms back for next year(Cliff has an option that will be picked up) plus Jenks. So with that done you can probably add one more arm and a bench player maybe and there ya go. If the Sox let Paulie go, you can bet they'll make a heavy push at a guy like Aubrey Huff over the off-season to play 1st base (while also adding a left handed bat). However, finacially speaking, you are right. Sox can aquire Burnett and sign him and I think there is a decent chance they get him or another player with the overall plan being similar (to keep the guy acquired for the next few years).
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) Somebody here was saying he turned down an offer or two, but I'm not quite sure. I'll wait until somebody says for certain. And both of those contracts you mentioned are way too much for such a one dimensional player. He's not even worth what he makes now. If PK does end up signing with another team for much more money than he's making now, I can't wait to see how people react. If that happens, a lot of people will start to agree with that comparison. No, the reason I think most are mad at Magglio is that he turned down a very very very good contract offer (as good as the one the Tigers gave him). Paulie has yet to do that with the Sox. Plus if Paulie went on the open market he'll get a contract along the lines of Richie Sexson (12 mill a year). Or at least I think he'd get close to it. My guess is the Sox will offer Paulie a deal somewhere between 8-10 mill a year for about 3 years.
  11. No, this is a decent deal for the Lakers cause they are getting rid of garbage in terms of Devean or Atkins. Both are and were bums last season for the Lakers. However Caron is a quality player and thats a good pickup by the Wiz. I also don't mind these deal for the Lakers caues Kwame is very talented and Kobe (whom I hate) does have a great work ethic and could potentially bring out the best in Brown. Plus the Lakers desperately needed a big man. OF course they still need to get rid of Lamar Odom.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Garland won't make 8 mil considering arbitrators will look at the whole picture and not this year, look for him to recieve about 5-6 mill I would think. Pauly needs to be let go, he's going to make a ton of money during the offseason and he's just not having that great of a year, hopefully he can right himself for the 2nd half because it'd be huge for this team if he can get hot like last year, I'm definitely hoping that happens. First priorities in the offseason imo should be signing Jon and AJ long term. One of Konerko and Thomas will be gone, plus Carl Everett. So if the Sox payroll does in fact go up to say 100 mill (25 mill increase). Hell even if the Sox keep Thomas and Konerko, they would be letting Everett go. Konerko makes 8 mill right now (or so) and gets a fat contract worth 11 mill a year. Thomas will make roughly the same. Basically put, Everett and his 4.5 mill would pay for Thomas and Konerko's raises, meaning even after Thomas and Konerko are resigned, the Sox payroll would stand at 75 mill. The team would have jumps to a few players (namely Garland) and would have to ink up someone like AJ long term. Realistically speaking though, if the club set 7 mill aside for all that (raises to Garl, inking AJP, and than just generic contract raises) that would mean the club is at 83 mill with 17 million to spend in free agency. If they let Konerko or Thomas walk...you could put that figure into the 25-28 mill range. This is all assuming a very high payroll, which may or may not happen, although I think you could see the payroll hit the 90 mill range (at the very least it will be 85 next year, imo). Simply put, regardless of Frank and Paulie's situation, if the Sox are willing to up payroll, the Sox will have some money to add FA's or make a trade for a guy making good money.
  13. Hawaii has sim'd through its first season (after I got fired at my 1st job) and won the WAC. Easiest conference ever. I just simmed straight through (played two games) and lost to Maryland in a bowl game but ended up winning the coach of the year. Take that Fullerton (they fired me...bastards). Now I'm looking forward to playing some games this year cause I have some bigger teams coming into Hawaii.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) Finally after all of these years, Jason said something funny. This is from the thread about the White Sox fantasy experiences. Yes, I've finally made this thread. You all suck at kissing the owners ass too. What is up with me actually having to say something funny to get into this thread. You all should bow down and worship my every post.

    QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) There's a big difference between not knowing and NOT CARING! LOL
  16. Here's the dilema with Konerko. I personally think Konerko is one of the leaders on the team (note I say one) and is also a definate fan favorite. His production is definately down this year (specifically average wise) but he is one of the better 1st baseman in baseball. The whole question is will he sign a deal similar to what he currently has (8-9 mill a year) or will he look for a Richie Sexson like deal (and he can get a Richie Sexson like deal...which would be in the neighborhood of 5yr 60 mill). Just look at Sexson's stats and tell me that Paulie isn't as good as Richie, if not better (cause over the long haul he's been a better average hitter). As far as Garland goes. He's just arbitration eligible and I'd reckon he'd get about 6 mill a year. I'd like to see them give a deal somewhere along the lines of 3 yr 21 mill (1st year at like 5 or 6 mill, then bump the other years up slowly). 3yr 18 would be fantastic if he were to agree to it.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) You both will be great parents. Have you started picking out names? They went for Jason if its a boy...and well, since the name is so great...Jason if its a girl
  18. LA papers are reporting its a done deal. Brown to the Lakers for Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins or Devean George (Wiz are still deciding on which I guess). They say the deal is pretty much done and ESPN.com is saying the same.
  19. So the Jays payroll can be 60 mill higher 2 years from now??? Does that sound fishy to anyone else.

  24. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) While the Giants won't blow up the roster — they plan to field a contending team in'06 — it's possible they could soon make the decision to move forward to next year. That means, for starters, unburdening themselves of the $7 million player option Durham has for next season. And perhaps cutting ties with longtime franchise stars such as Snow and Kirk Rueter. It also might mean trading Jason Schmidt, though the Giants would require two major leagueready pitchers in return. That means Jon Garland from the White Sox, Erik Bedard from the Orioles or John Patterson from the Nationals — trades that would be counterproductive for contenders looking to bolster their staff. Giants GM Brian Sabean said he continues to be "as active as we could be" about adding a starting pitcher. He continued to assert that he has not discussed any "premium players" on the 25-man roster, and that picking up Schmidt's $10.5 million option remains a strong possibility. I wouldn't trade Garland straight up for Schmidt. Let alone give something else.
