GAME THREAD 7-16-2005 SOX vs INJUNS
I liked the minor Paulie chant in Cleveland Paulie is rolling right now. Him and Rowand appear to be heating up and hopefully AJ's double is a sign of him coming out of his funk.

White Sox Trade Thread
QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) I heard Farmer say that about Peavy. Padres would be the stupidest team ever to trade Peavy wonder what the Sox would have to give up You'd have to think major league talent. Only thing I could possibly see is if the Pads got Contreras another major leaguer, Bmac and Brian Anderson and than turned a few prospects into another key player they liked where they felt it would improve the team. Still, it just makes no sense. If all it took were minor leaguers, I'd give up the 4 best in the org to get Peavy, but I think we all know that wouldn't be the case.

Ted Lilly/Gustavo Chacin News
So I take it I'm the lone person that thinks he's over-rated. His stuff is nothing special and he gets by with deception, imo. He gives up a good amount more hits per inning pitch and doesn't have high strikeout totals. Consider me un-impressed and dissapointed if the Sox acquire him (cause I think it would cost an assload to get him).

Ted Lilly/Gustavo Chacin News
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) It's a far Far Far stretch to go from us having a scout at the BJ game to us trading for Chacin or even Lilly. We may also be looking at Hillenbrand or Hinske who both can backup either 1st or 3rd or we could be interested in Bautista who is also rumored to be on the block. Batista/Lilly both make a lot of sense. Hilly could make some sense, but I think the Sox are going to hold tight on the Crede front and see what Crede does these next few weeks. If things go well, they'll stick it out with him, but if he struggles and finds himself on the DL, a deal will be made (I'm convinced the best option is Omar with Juan moving to 3rd).

Shingo Takatsu Heading West???
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) I hope the prospect in the potential Shingo deal goes with another deal. My guess is Reinsdorf has told Kenny get me another ace or Wagner or Guardado. You can tell he wants to win and Kenny will deliever. JR is going to have absolutely zero say in what Kenny gets. Kenny will approach JR and throw out a name and say I think this guy can put us over the top, is it alright to expand payroll (cause JR has to sign off on the moves) but JR isn't going to be the one telling Kenny who to get. JR has faith in Kenny and isn't about to step on his feet. He lets the GM's of his club run the club and simply steps in with financial decisions for the most part. The only exceptions are when he deals with Frank Thomas. Hell just think about how he refuses to deal with another players agents (for example the Skiles situation). JR is the type of guy that prefers to be behind the scenes and I can't blame him for that. Let the baseball people handle the roster. Of course if I were an owner I'd be a b**** to work for cause I'd think I could run the damn team.

NON WHITE SOX TRADE THREAD
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) That's what I'm thinking -- Dunn would be a long time guy at first for them, considering he's what, 25 years old? And, while I don't know about the depth of Boston's farm system, the names that jump out at me -- Pedroia (sp?), Ramirez -- certainly not firstbasemen. I'm sure Dunn would have a field day hitting shallow flies to left that end up as doubles off the monster, as well as the short-corner in right, down the line. Plus, Manny-Ortiz-Dunn -- that would be arguably as good, probably better, than Pujols-Rolen-Edmonds. I'm sure he would, assuming he could learn to hit opposite field (a big if in his case, imo). The big issue is Boston has been pretty ho-hum about not dealing guys like Hanley. They expect Hanley to play 3rd, potentially as soon as next season. Speaking of 3rd baseman, I still think if the Sox were to make a move, I wouldn't mind looking at Bill Mueller and see if the BoSox would have some interest in Shingo and a prospect (if the Red Sox feel Hanley could play now...I'm sure the odds are slim to none, but why not ask). This year though the talk about moving Millar is that they want to get Olerud more AB's, supposedly. Which is why I can't figure out the point of getting Phil Nevin (since that would be counter-productive).

White Sox Trade Thread
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) ...and why would the padres have interest in trading him or anybody else when they are leading the race in the nl west? Ya, it makes zero sense to me. Padres have money and Peavy isn't due to become a free agent for a few more years. Unless this is part of some blockbuster that the Pads plan on making it makes zero sense. Why deal when your ace when your winning the division.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Ed Farmer mention that Jake Peavy might be involved in trade talks... God I would s*** my pants if the Sox got Peavy With the Sox??? I'm scared at what type of major league talent the Sox would be giving up. No way would the Pads deal Peavy without getting an assload.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) With all their BP problems if the BoSox waste all their resources going after another bat that'd pure stupidy. I hope they do it. They also want to move Millar.

NON WHITE SOX TRADE THREAD
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Jason -- you know I'm a huge fan of Dunn -- but I think he's a real good candidate for the Dodgers, or maybe even Boston (depending on what James/Epstein think about all his K's). I'm thinking LA, though, because they got the prospects to get Dunn. The Dodgers have been the team most linked to Dunn or at least thats what all the radio stations out here say. The Padres have also had some interest (I'm guessing if Nevin gets dealt, Klesko would move to 1st and than they would make a push at Dunn). Of course the Pads could also re-insert Xavier Nady into the starting lineup and he's a pretty solid player.

Ted Lilly/Gustavo Chacin News
QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Holy s*** I would love to have Gustavo on the Sox that would be huge I just don't see why the heck the Jays would deal a youngster that they and so many seem so fond of. It just doesn't make sense, especially if they are getting more prospects in return (which is what the Sox could offer). Only thing I could see, like I said earlier, is some type of 3 way deal, but even than I'd have my doubts. Is Gustavo really that good? I saw him pitch yesterday and he looked alright. I mainly think he's doing good because he has a deceptive delivery, but his stuff doesn't overly impress me at least (I only saw his start against he Sox earlier in the year, part of last nights start and bits of pieces of a few other games). I do realize he's young, but am I the only one that thinks people are over-hyping him?

Ted Lilly/Gustavo Chacin News
From the trib: The Sox's pitching staff has allowed one run in its first two games of the second half. At the same time, Sox special assistant Bill Scherrer was in Toronto scouting left-handers Ted Lilly and Gustavo Chacin. My 2 cents: There is zero chance that the Jays will deal Chacin to the Sox unless its part of a larger deal that gets Burnett or another high caliber starter to Toronto. I also feel that as of now Ted Lilly is off the market. However, if the Jays slump and fall out of the race, Lilly could be had (it will cost a decent amount), but he's a solid lefty that could move into the pen during the post-season and give the Sox innings. He's also been on fire the past two months.

For all trade rumors
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) and not have the entire main forum littered with trade threads. good work jas (i'm assuming it was your idea....for some reason, i think i'm wrong ) Actually I'm not 100% if it was my idea or not. I know i talked with a few people and threw this idea out, but I'm not sure if someone else mentioned it as well. Regardless, I'm taking some credit for it, LOL.

Shingo Takatsu Heading West???
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Well it would have to be for a prospect with LA cause they have nothing we'd want on the roster. The reports are that it would be for a prospect, so I'm going to assume just that. My guess would be a swingman (guy that could start or relieve thats in AAA) or a middle infielder. Then there is the chance it could be a lefty reliever.

Shingo Takatsu Heading West???
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) you're right. Shingo hasn't been terrible, but there's not a place for him in our pen right now. All he was doing was mop up duty lately, we have vizcy for that. He should have some trade value and it should be a win-win situation for whoever gets him The big thing with Viz is that his velocity is coming back. Early in the year he was in the low 90's, but now I've seen him hit 94-95 with a lot more regularity and he's throwing it for strikes. When Viz is on he can be nasty. He still has issues hanging the slider, but its less of a factor when he's able to get the fastball over the plate. Early in the year he was lacking velocity on that hitter and missing his spots and hitters were just waiting for him to hang his slider (they didn't even have to worry about the heater).

Cubsuck23: The White Sox are talking to several teams about upgrading their pitching and could be dangling Jose Contreras as bait another of potential trading partners sent scouts to watch Contreras' most recent start.

NON WHITE SOX TRADE THREAD
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Thome is 35 has a bad back and a bad right elbow. He played 492 games at 3rd early in his career. He can no longer play the position. STAY AWAY FROM THOME. I'd look for the Dodgers and Angels to take a look at Thome. The Angels have been looking for a DH for a long time and Thome could definately fit the bill (although the Angels never give up there good prospects). If I were the Dodgers though I'd seriously look into Thome. They've been looking for a bat and Choi hasn't exactly been great at 1st. Then again, I don't know how willing they would be to take on that contract. However, I think that would make as much sense as taking on Dunn (and giving up all it would take to get him). Frankly, I'm not near the Dunn fan some on this board are. His OPS may be ridiculous, but he's over-rated in my book. I'm not saying the talent isn't there and he does have massive power, but I'm a fan of average and guys that put the ball in play (regardless of what the stats tell me) and I frankly think that while his OPS+ is ridiuclous, its not an indicator (in his case) of him being one of the best few hitters in the game.

Shingo Takatsu Heading West???
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) i am, as well. He hasn't been used in awhile, today would be a perfect time. I'm all for the "out with shingo" campaign Shingo has done good and I think the team that gets him will be getting a quality reliever. At the same time he won't be around next year and Ozzie doesn't seem to have confidence in him. As the last guy in the pen I'm just as happy with Jenks as I would be with Shingo. I like Jenks upside and I'm assuming if they do keep him he's fitting in the clubhouse nicely. Plus the Sox should be able to get a decent piece for Shingo that could help them via a trade or help them later on down the road (if it is a 5th starter) if Duque goes down again. I could even see Shingo dealt for a AAA lefty reliever to give the Sox some options as an insurance if Marte goes down again.

Shingo Takatsu Heading West???
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) It could be interesting if Shingo pitches tonight. With a 5 run lead and the fact that Neal and Viz pitched yesterday you'd think this would be a game shingo would pitch. If he doesn't, something definitely coud be up. I tend to think we'll see Jenks throw the 9th, assuming this game doesn't get any closer. I am definately buying into this rumor of Shingo being on the way out.
