QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Garland won't make 8 mil considering arbitrators will look at the whole picture and not this year, look for him to recieve about 5-6 mill I would think. Pauly needs to be let go, he's going to make a ton of money during the offseason and he's just not having that great of a year, hopefully he can right himself for the 2nd half because it'd be huge for this team if he can get hot like last year, I'm definitely hoping that happens. First priorities in the offseason imo should be signing Jon and AJ long term. One of Konerko and Thomas will be gone, plus Carl Everett. So if the Sox payroll does in fact go up to say 100 mill (25 mill increase). Hell even if the Sox keep Thomas and Konerko, they would be letting Everett go. Konerko makes 8 mill right now (or so) and gets a fat contract worth 11 mill a year. Thomas will make roughly the same. Basically put, Everett and his 4.5 mill would pay for Thomas and Konerko's raises, meaning even after Thomas and Konerko are resigned, the Sox payroll would stand at 75 mill. The team would have jumps to a few players (namely Garland) and would have to ink up someone like AJ long term. Realistically speaking though, if the club set 7 mill aside for all that (raises to Garl, inking AJP, and than just generic contract raises) that would mean the club is at 83 mill with 17 million to spend in free agency. If they let Konerko or Thomas walk...you could put that figure into the 25-28 mill range. This is all assuming a very high payroll, which may or may not happen, although I think you could see the payroll hit the 90 mill range (at the very least it will be 85 next year, imo). Simply put, regardless of Frank and Paulie's situation, if the Sox are willing to up payroll, the Sox will have some money to add FA's or make a trade for a guy making good money.

Hawaii has sim'd through its first season (after I got fired at my 1st job) and won the WAC. Easiest conference ever. I just simmed straight through (played two games) and lost to Maryland in a bowl game but ended up winning the coach of the year. Take that Fullerton (they fired me...bastards). Now I'm looking forward to playing some games this year cause I have some bigger teams coming into Hawaii.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) Finally after all of these years, Jason said something funny. This is from the thread about the White Sox fantasy experiences. Yes, I've finally made this thread. You all suck at kissing the owners ass too. What is up with me actually having to say something funny to get into this thread. You all should bow down and worship my every post.

Here's the dilema with Konerko. I personally think Konerko is one of the leaders on the team (note I say one) and is also a definate fan favorite. His production is definately down this year (specifically average wise) but he is one of the better 1st baseman in baseball. The whole question is will he sign a deal similar to what he currently has (8-9 mill a year) or will he look for a Richie Sexson like deal (and he can get a Richie Sexson like deal...which would be in the neighborhood of 5yr 60 mill). Just look at Sexson's stats and tell me that Paulie isn't as good as Richie, if not better (cause over the long haul he's been a better average hitter). As far as Garland goes. He's just arbitration eligible and I'd reckon he'd get about 6 mill a year. I'd like to see them give a deal somewhere along the lines of 3 yr 21 mill (1st year at like 5 or 6 mill, then bump the other years up slowly). 3yr 18 would be fantastic if he were to agree to it.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) You both will be great parents. Have you started picking out names? They went for Jason if its a boy...and well, since the name is so great...Jason if its a girl

LA papers are reporting its a done deal. Brown to the Lakers for Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins or Devean George (Wiz are still deciding on which I guess). They say the deal is pretty much done and ESPN.com is saying the same.

So the Jays payroll can be 60 mill higher 2 years from now??? Does that sound fishy to anyone else.

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) While the Giants won't blow up the roster — they plan to field a contending team in'06 — it's possible they could soon make the decision to move forward to next year. That means, for starters, unburdening themselves of the $7 million player option Durham has for next season. And perhaps cutting ties with longtime franchise stars such as Snow and Kirk Rueter. It also might mean trading Jason Schmidt, though the Giants would require two major leagueready pitchers in return. That means Jon Garland from the White Sox, Erik Bedard from the Orioles or John Patterson from the Nationals — trades that would be counterproductive for contenders looking to bolster their staff. Giants GM Brian Sabean said he continues to be "as active as we could be" about adding a starting pitcher. He continued to assert that he has not discussed any "premium players" on the 25-man roster, and that picking up Schmidt's $10.5 million option remains a strong possibility. I wouldn't trade Garland straight up for Schmidt. Let alone give something else.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) it doesn't look all that great, but then again, i know i'll buy it anyway. I'm at least buying it and than returning it. I bought NCAA at Best Buy for the free cokes and free reserve of Madden. That way at the very least I can return Madden and end up saving 5 bucks cause they discounted NCAA to 44.99.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) after blowing out IOWA @ IOWA w/ the illini and going 5-0, I think it's time to look for sliders I created my school and well I made them an academic school. Which means the best player on my team ended up being the low 60's. To say the least the only teams I have beaten are the two D-2 schools I put in my schedule. My team is a D- and I played Florida and lost by 60. OMG, I was in it till near the end of the 1st half when my team decided to fumble every f***ing ball that got in there hands. I'm totally miffed. So I sim'd the rest of the way hoping to get my talent level up and got canned. Never one another game and wasn't even close. Took Hawaii (lowest rated team that was willing to accept me) and now I'm doing alright. Point being, if you want a challenge be a 1 star and create it as an academic. Its freaking impossible to do anything. My recievers would catch 1 pass for ever 4 drops. Of course I'm in the WAC with Hawaii so its not like I'm playing anyone good. Midway through season 2 (1st year with Hawaii) and I'm 5-1 (played 2, simd the rest) but my opponents are like 30 games under .500 and the only one over .500 was Idaho who beat me when I simd. Real badass game though, love the in-season recruiting. One question though, same as Krush's, how the hell do you invite players to the games. It only says somethinga bout their unofficial visit went well.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) So I take it no one plays over X-Box Live? I'll be interested in a few weeks. Early on though I'm just going crazy over dynasty mode and turning my team halfway decent (they are awful...I can only beat D2 schools, lol). My username is Chisoxfn or something like that.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:48 AM) that should only happen your first time booting up the game. I'm guessing he isn't saving it and thats why it keeps reloading when he turns it on.

Yes, they did sign him a couple days ago. Haven't written up a story yet (waiting to find out the timeline till he's back). The Knights trainer will be checking him out tomorrow, but he will open up on the DL.

I'm retarded...all I had to do was scroll down a few threads and my answer was right there. I guess he didnt' make it, although I swore I read a press release somewhere that said he did.

Sweetness. Brian Anderson made the team as well right?

PUt it this way...if Aj Burnett is on the board and the Sox are able to talk to his agent and convince him on a 3 yr deal worth 30 mill with a 4th year option at say 12 mill (team option). That would be a package that could be worth as much as 4yr 42 mill, than I think I'd get the deal done for as much as Marte/Duque/Bmac or Anderson or Sweeney/Mid Level Prospect I would think taht would be enough. If they run the risk of not signing him, than I'd give up more along the lines of Duque/Jenks/Anderson or Sweeney or Owens/Baj. Burnett would be the best guy the Sox could add (to this rotation). I'm also convinced you have a higher chance of winning a deal when you are planning on keeping a guy long term (as opposed to a one year rental). Basically put, I'd give up a hell of a lot to get AJ why wouldn't the Marlins be interested in the top package. They get a starter in Duque (who could fill in for AJ at a cheaper rate), a reliever in Marte (whose very good), a good prospect (I'd prefer to give them one of the OF's), and than a solid mid level guy. The Sox would than still have quite a few chips to go out and get Eddie Guardado or someone along those lines and shore up the pen a bit. Rotation would be set and you'd still have a guy like Bmac there to back up. The Sox could even get ballsy and offer up a package for Omar.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) I was thinking that his throwing session over the AS break got no pub whatsoever. You know if ozzie and KW liked what they saw, it would be all over the media. I dont think he is healthy either. He was slated to throw that session today, so I'm assuming thats why there isn't any pub. You'll probably see a minor tidbit in tomorrows paper.
