  1. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) If Anderson comes up here he should be the CF, but thats ok... Rowand is a natural RF so thats cool anyways and believe it or not Dye has played 1B b4 that game way back when. And if we want him at 1B he can always play in a winter league or whatevr and get some time at 1B there. Its not like its impossible to learn 1B..... example being Scott Hatteburg of the A's and Dye is way ahead of Hatteburg when he was trying to learn 1st. No he shouldn't. Rowand is 5 times the defensive player in center field than Brian Anderson is. No knock on Anderson, but screw that, there is absolutely zero reason for the White Sox to move Aaron Rowand from CF. Only time he gets moved is if Torri Hunter or Andruw Jones find there way to Chicago.
  2. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 06:53 AM) Aaron's SO/BB ratio is 4.19 while Anderson's is 2.62. So, even though he strikes out more, he has been better at the plate than Rowand. Aaron's slugging this year is below .400. Anderson is a better fielder, better arm, better athlete and overall better with the bat. Don't get me wrong, I like A-Row, but he has lost something at the plate and is more of a guy who gets a lot from not the greatest tools. Brian Anderson is not better than Aaron Rowand. Rowand is one of the 5 best defensive cneterfielders in the game and personally I think he ranks in at 3rd or 4th depending on whether him or Mike Cameron is better. Give it a rest people, Rowand is signed for the next few years, knows how to play the game, and is one of the last people Kenny would trade (and should be too).
  3. QUOTE(tony72 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) From 1.3 million in 1999 to 2.4 million in 2005 is a da.....mn good improvement !! If we draw 2.4 million this year and play decent next year...we could draw about 2.7 million in 2006 which would be great for more revenue and maybe a free agent or two... All in all, with Buerhle, Garcia and Garland as the core of your starting pitching I don't think this will be a 2000 were we were good for one year and then just a little better than average the next.. I think the White Sox could be good for three or four years which would mean over 2.5 million each year and more money for the team.. If and I mean if the Sox win the series...expect 3 million.
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) It was my idea, and I got shot down, until Jason rode in and claimed it as his own. Its amazing how I can turn a bad idea into a good one huh
  5. Well than I take that back...give some credit to dap to Kap as well
  6. Damn...1st two batters he looked so good. Jesus, get to the pen.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) It also makes no sense that they would trade someone they have control over for the next four years or so. They need to add talent at the major league level without subtracting it. They have a good enough sytem ( and free agent money in the next two years) that trading young major leaguers should not be needed. Exactly. I could see to a lesser extent Lilly (if they fall out of the race) but as of now I don't see why they would deal major league players when they are trying to build the club and have a system. Especially when everyone is saying they are capable of adding payroll the next couple years.
  8. It will be interesting to see how he does against the tribe (afterall, they hit him better than any other team in the bigs).
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) I see him at best a three most likely a four. Most scouts ( from what i have read in the past) and even most blue jays fans don't think he is nearly as good as he is pitching. They are just riding his streak of good pitching and are ready for him to fall back down to earth. Good...I just see everyone drooling about him and personally I think they are crazy.
  10. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Well, they may want jenks on the roster by trading shingo for a prospect it opens up a spot on the roster. That way Elduque can take that spot. They rarely use shingo anyway, so this might save cash to be used somewhere else, open up a spot, and keep a hard throwing jenks in there longer for a better look. To me we are not losing much. I think thats exactly whats going to happen and its what I've heard. I don't know how much truth there is to the Shingo rumor, but I know the Sox like Jenks a lot and financially they could save a little money moving Shingo, which would give them a little more reserves for the deadline (plus it sounds like they could get at least one decent chip in return).
  11. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) They could get Hinske though for little more than picking up his contract and they'd feel no pressure at all to have him sitting on the bench behind Crede and Kong, that would not be the case with Hilly. Btw, I also prefer Omar, but Crede stays at 3rd, Juan super sub. If Crede is healthy yes, if Crede is hurt or something than I said to me the best option would be getting Omar and moving Juan to 3rd. I think thats better than Juan at SS and Randa at 3b. To me Juan is a very strong defensive player (wherever he is in the infield). The big reason I'm not a fan of moving for Hilly or Hinske is they both blow ass defensively at 3rd and I don't want to see the Sox hurt their defense (if Crede goes on the DL) by acquiring a guy that can't field (I have the same feelings for Huff). If the Sox trade for a 3rd baseman or a middle infielder, they better be able to field the ball.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Chances we get peavy seem as good as us getting pujols. If not you can see what i am getting at. Oh god....sweet, I didn't know we were after Pooholes.
  13. I liked the minor Paulie chant in Cleveland Paulie is rolling right now. Him and Rowand appear to be heating up and hopefully AJ's double is a sign of him coming out of his funk.
  14. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) has there been rumor of this? Ya, check out the sub-forum called the Inside Beat.
  15. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) I heard Farmer say that about Peavy. Padres would be the stupidest team ever to trade Peavy wonder what the Sox would have to give up You'd have to think major league talent. Only thing I could possibly see is if the Pads got Contreras another major leaguer, Bmac and Brian Anderson and than turned a few prospects into another key player they liked where they felt it would improve the team. Still, it just makes no sense. If all it took were minor leaguers, I'd give up the 4 best in the org to get Peavy, but I think we all know that wouldn't be the case.
  16. So I take it I'm the lone person that thinks he's over-rated. His stuff is nothing special and he gets by with deception, imo. He gives up a good amount more hits per inning pitch and doesn't have high strikeout totals. Consider me un-impressed and dissapointed if the Sox acquire him (cause I think it would cost an assload to get him).
  17. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) It's a far Far Far stretch to go from us having a scout at the BJ game to us trading for Chacin or even Lilly. We may also be looking at Hillenbrand or Hinske who both can backup either 1st or 3rd or we could be interested in Bautista who is also rumored to be on the block. Batista/Lilly both make a lot of sense. Hilly could make some sense, but I think the Sox are going to hold tight on the Crede front and see what Crede does these next few weeks. If things go well, they'll stick it out with him, but if he struggles and finds himself on the DL, a deal will be made (I'm convinced the best option is Omar with Juan moving to 3rd).
  18. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) I hope the prospect in the potential Shingo deal goes with another deal. My guess is Reinsdorf has told Kenny get me another ace or Wagner or Guardado. You can tell he wants to win and Kenny will deliever. JR is going to have absolutely zero say in what Kenny gets. Kenny will approach JR and throw out a name and say I think this guy can put us over the top, is it alright to expand payroll (cause JR has to sign off on the moves) but JR isn't going to be the one telling Kenny who to get. JR has faith in Kenny and isn't about to step on his feet. He lets the GM's of his club run the club and simply steps in with financial decisions for the most part. The only exceptions are when he deals with Frank Thomas. Hell just think about how he refuses to deal with another players agents (for example the Skiles situation). JR is the type of guy that prefers to be behind the scenes and I can't blame him for that. Let the baseball people handle the roster. Of course if I were an owner I'd be a b**** to work for cause I'd think I could run the damn team.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) That's what I'm thinking -- Dunn would be a long time guy at first for them, considering he's what, 25 years old? And, while I don't know about the depth of Boston's farm system, the names that jump out at me -- Pedroia (sp?), Ramirez -- certainly not firstbasemen. I'm sure Dunn would have a field day hitting shallow flies to left that end up as doubles off the monster, as well as the short-corner in right, down the line. Plus, Manny-Ortiz-Dunn -- that would be arguably as good, probably better, than Pujols-Rolen-Edmonds. I'm sure he would, assuming he could learn to hit opposite field (a big if in his case, imo). The big issue is Boston has been pretty ho-hum about not dealing guys like Hanley. They expect Hanley to play 3rd, potentially as soon as next season. Speaking of 3rd baseman, I still think if the Sox were to make a move, I wouldn't mind looking at Bill Mueller and see if the BoSox would have some interest in Shingo and a prospect (if the Red Sox feel Hanley could play now...I'm sure the odds are slim to none, but why not ask). This year though the talk about moving Millar is that they want to get Olerud more AB's, supposedly. Which is why I can't figure out the point of getting Phil Nevin (since that would be counter-productive).
  20. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) ...and why would the padres have interest in trading him or anybody else when they are leading the race in the nl west? Ya, it makes zero sense to me. Padres have money and Peavy isn't due to become a free agent for a few more years. Unless this is part of some blockbuster that the Pads plan on making it makes zero sense. Why deal when your ace when your winning the division.
