  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) I got a credit card this summer (Cabela's VISA) and I know to only use in in emergencies. It'll probably be a positive that I'm a tightass when it comes to money... Thats cause tipping cows is free
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) I sure hope you didn't marry that one.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) do a search with my Username Re: Guzman. LOL Computer blew up because it doesn't like negativity I think Guzman is the only player you may like worse than Perez....solely because he gets paid more money to do what Perez does for a mill.
  4. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) Here is what concerns me. outside the AL Central, we our around .500 against the rest of the AL. Take away the A's and its not too bad though. They are like 8 games over or so.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) I'm tellin' ya, Jason -- El Duque's best start of the year is coming Saturday. Just 'cause me, Brian, Steve, and Zach will be in attendence. We shall see, but I truly hope your right. Of course i kind of think Duque will pitch alright down the stretch for the club. I still would like to see a new starter though, I just don't want to give up a bunch or major leaguers to get one.
  6. Tomorrows game will be pretty key, otherwise there is a decent chance of a sweep and quite frankly, thats not a good time for this to happen. Could send Kenny or someone into panic mode. At the same time, Jon goes out and wins tomorrow, maybe Contreras or Duque come through and you can pull a split. Everyone goes home happy and in your minds you realize the team could of easily took 3 out of 4 if htey play some defense.
  7. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) Heard there are talks about Dye moving to 1B at this point in his career. Not sure how legit they are though. Is the org actually throwing that around or is that just the people on the board, cause I know a lot of people on the board would like Dye at 1b and Anderson in RF. Personally I'll throw up if that happens. If the Sox go with that, they better find some offense elsewhere cause this offense will head into the crapper in a hurry. I dont' have a problem starting Anderson, but I wnat him to be eased in, which means you need to have some other guys that can hit and quite frankly, a lineup without Paulie is a heck of a lot worse. But if the Sox upgrade another area or two, than I'd be tempted and I do think Dye could be a pretty good 1st baseman.
  8. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) I don't see the need to promote him anyway. Thats just cause he'd prove that he's a better prospect than Josh
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Your probably one of many here on SoxTalk who agree... I don't see many other options as good as Konerko on the open market, at least right now. Paulie is a good player, it just depends on what other teams offer him, imo.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Could the people that said Frank would hurt the chemistry have been right? That's something to think about, I guess. All he's done since he came back is hit like 8 solo homers and that's about it. No, thats ludicrous. I'm not a Frank fan, but I'm not going to say he's hurting the team's chemistry. Is he the best option to be starting everyday, probably not, but than again, if Frank gets rolling he vastly improves this offense. For example, if Frank hits .270 with power...he's the big attidition for this team, because thats a totally different Frank than the one were seeing right now. I also think you see PK and AJ have good finishes. The key will be if Uribe gets out of his funk, if the pitching stays healthy and if the Sox add a reliever or starter (I do think they could use one more) as well as a SS (I just don't want to see the Sox lose becasue they aren't willing to give up Valido and someoen else for Vizquel). Vizquel is kicking butt, so whta if he's old. I'll take my chances on him being a bad investment three years from now at 4 mill a year or so. Personally speaking the Sox could take him now and move him in the offseason (someone will have interest, I guarantee it). Fact of the matter is, Omar makes this team a lot better offensively and gives them another leader to help them down the stretch and hopefully in the playoffs (one game at a time though and first they got to get there).
  11. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) I can't argue with that, but a bit drastic, don't you think. How about giving Ozuna a shot at ss. His natural position, and he hits. As clutch as Everett has been, there is NO REASON FOR FRANK THOMAS TO BE IN THE LINE UP. Let him get his 500 home run for Tampa Bay. Personally Ozuna isn't enough of an upgrade offensively to warrant the defense that is lost when you transition from Juan to Pablo (Juan is one of the 5 best defensive ss's). If you get Vizquel, you get a SS of equal defensive ability (or close to it) and superior offensive production (not going to say ability because I think Juan has as much as any SS in the game not named Tejada or Arod and I think he has similar capabilities of a guy like Tejada).
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) You and me both, fathom. As soon as I said it, all that was said was, "These negative posters hate Frank Thomas now." Technically speaking for the most part (despite Frank being my favorite player for quite a long time) I've turned into a Frank basher. I give the guy a lot of credit and feel he's a hall of famer, but my style isn't with big bulky DH"s that can do anything but DH. I'm a fan of a DH that can play in the field and be versatile. Essentially using the DH spot as a way to keep some of your power hitters healthy. Say you have 4 OF's, one a defensive wiz like Rowand. Than your DH could be the kind of guy that can play LF or RF and is a good hitter. Let him ocassionally play in the field giving your other guys some time off. All this said, I'm pulling for Frank, but he's going nowhere until he stops being so selfish and home run oriented.
  13. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) FT hurt again it rains it pours. This team did fine without him and will do fine again. Mark my words. Frank did have some big hr's and came on strong early on. But there are scouts and they obviously picked up on the fact that Frank is sitting dead red. Every AB, just watch, and you'll see him. The only thing he'll hit is a FB or a hanging slider (Which is a great pitch to see when your looking for a FB cause your gonna get the head out on it..the key is just keeping it fair). But now teams are pitching him outside and he's doing absolutely nothing but getting weak outs.
  14. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Im very disappointed in Konerko, Thomas, Pierzynski, and Uribe. Id like to see all three shipped out and get some quality guys that fits the demeanor of this team. The first three are extremely inconsistent and are terribly slow. Uribe is not a starter. His bat sucks. He is a defensive replacement for the ninth. That is all. Id like to see them get Odalis Perez, Omar Vizquel, and a replacement at first. Odalis pitched a good game today for the Dodgers. I'm not gonna bash Konerko and I'll say I'm dissapointed in a sense with Pyrz (mainly his offense, cause career wise he's a far better hitter than this). But he brings a winning attitude to the table and has helped this pitching staff so much. I don't care what type of offense I get from him. He's a stable force and has yet to get hot. I tend to think both him and Paulie will be in the .270 range by years end. Uribe, thats another story. I don't know whats happeend to him but he's just looking awful. Last year he would hit the ball so hard, this year, he never hits it on the button. Hell of a defensive player though and I still like his long-term potential, but right now I think this is a definate area where the Sox could upgrade.
  15. No, get them a shortstop. Gload fits this team better than Frank anyway (you can all bash me all you want, but Frank is playing selfish right now with his approach). Not copmlaing about the season, I'm loving the season, but with the way Frank is playing, Everett should be the regular DH. Plus Gloadie is my favorite player and quite frankly he's a good hitter. He's gonna help this club out. Now if only they can get Vizquel or Freel cause Uribe is just awful at the plate (great defensively though and I still like him).
  16. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) Someone reported on WSI that Frank got injured during batting practice and Gload is on his way up.. Not to sure if this is true Great news if you ask me. Gload is the exact type of guy this club could use right now, imo.
  17. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) This place is gonna be terrible when we get swept this weekend.... Good thing I'm going on Vacation. I suggest many of you take a break too. I'm not going into panic mode at all. The Sox are due for a semi slump. The thing that hurts me is that people are going gaga over Frank when he's awful and I do mean awful. All I have to do is watch his approach at the plate. He's cheating inside fastball everytime. If he gets it, it goes a mile, if he doesn't he hits weak fly outs or ground outs. The worse part is, he cheats with runners as well, not willing to move guys over or anything. I've always said at least Paulie (even when he's struggling) will do his best to be a team player and move guys over. Frank is only concerned about hitting for homer's now and with that has gone his average. I just hope he figures it out and quits doing it, otherwise buy him out and spend that money elsewhere.
  18. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) So you want Frank and Paul to bunt? Hello, they get paid to drive in runs and hit the big ball? I don't understand your arguement? No, I want Frank to get traded. The way he's playing right now he has littel value to me. Someone thats a big fan of OPS can drool over him all they want, but he's not a good hitter at this point. I'll give him some more time since he's coming back from an injury, but if he keeps hitting like this, his place should be on the bench and than his contract should be bought out. I hold no loyalties because all I care about is winning and quite frankly, the Frank we've seen thus far, isn't one that will help this club (regardless of what anyone else tells me). Tell me when he stops cheating for inside fastballs. Until than he's gonna continue to suck. Also, Sox could drastically use a 2 hole hitter cause Guchi is in a painful slump and would be better fit lower in the order. Get Vizquel or Freel over here.
  19. QUOTE(bluesox @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) What was a weak spot (3rd base) two years ago is now a strenghth. Josh Fields is listed as 9th, and Micah Schnurstein should be near (if not ahead). A comparison of the two has Micah ahead in average (.291 to .248) and combind slugging and on base percentage (.805 to .750). Both have 30 BB but Josh has 99 SO to 64 for Micah. Both have a boatload of errors and both have 12 HR. Josh is playing AA while Micah is only in high A, but Micah turned 21 two days ago and Josh turns 23 in December. Neither should see a promotion this year (with Norton at AAA) but both should move up one notch next year. With the trading deadline coming, which has more trade value, the #1 pick at AA or the # 7 pick at single A? Personally speaking...I grade Schnurstein over Fields (but I seem to be the only person who feels that way). Schnur is going to be a good one and if I were Kenny, Fields would be on the list of guys I'd trade.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Nothing beats this kid that was my friends cousin and what he did at my house. He would come to Chicago about 2 or 3 times a year for a week or 2 and he is like the biggest hillbilly fatty fat fat ever. One day he came over, said he had to use the bathroom and proceeded to the bathroom. We were sitting outside and he left. About 20 minutes later, he runs downstairs, comes outside and says "Hey man, I gotta go. C ya." 5 minutes later, I go to my bathroom to take a piss and the f***ing bathrooms is covered in s***. Walls, toilet, floor, tiles, counter, shower curtiain....etc. ALL but the cieling and towels. THE MOTHERf***ER SHAT HIMSELF IN MY BATHROOM! I haven't heard from him since... That was you
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Personally I have a little bit more fun with them myself. Thus far, I've paid mine off every month since I first got one (6-7 years ago)...and I'm on a good enough card now that I get cash back/points for purchases. In other words, my credit card company has paid me roughly $300 in the last year just because I use the card instead of carrying cash. Thats exactly how I do it. I take advantage of my cash back/points and just pay the bill off every month.
  22. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) The Cubs sell hot dogs and more food in general. Maybe we should stop selling food at the games. If you want it, you could go 8 miles north of the cell. That's how silly it sounds. I hate when people think of things as, "oh the Cubs do that, so we shouldn't do that" Stop having the Cubs in mind. Technically speaking...Cub fans don't do the wave. And they don't have more food than the Sox. I know the Cubs were supposed to upgrade there ballpark food this year, but in prior years that stadium blew chunks opposed to the Cell in the food department. I agree though and I'm not one to compare the two teams. Don't tell me how the Sox are doing in relation to the Cubs, tell me how the Sox are doing in the playoff standings.
  23. Thank god....if this poll were the other way around, I'd close Soxtalk The wave blows...case closed.
  24. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) I read somewhere the Sox want to upgrade third base. I hope if they acquire Randa or somebody then don't trade Crede, merely have another guy here to push Joe. I think Crede's a pretty good player. I don't think the organization should take his defense for granted. He's pretty valuable, don't you all agree? I would NOT trade him, not this year, not winning the way we are. Sox will only trade for a 3rd baseman if they feel Crede's back is going to force him to miss an extended period of time. If they feel confidend he won't, than I think you'll see them at most bring in a role player who can spell him every once in a while.
