Latest news on Huff and Baez
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Probably, but I don't think there is a rule or something to that affect. MLB needs the paperwork by then, but deals can semi be worked out a little past. Its kind of odd how it happens, but I think your right. He'd have to be out of the lineup pretty quickly.

White Sox Acquire Blum
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:28 AM) Or it could have been Gary Majewski, who the Sox traded to the Dodgers, then traded back for him. He then got picked up in the Rule 5 draft and was returned to the Sox when he didn't make Detroit's opening day roster. He currently has a nice 3.18 ERA in 51 appearances out of the Washington Nationals bullpen. Its good seeing Maj pitch so well. He's a quality guy and has definately earned it. I always was a fan of his and well Its nice to see he's gotten an opportunity to pitch at the major league level and he's definately responded well to it.

NON WHITE SOX TRADE THREAD
Even if its Hairston...Twins badly need some pop and they'd be dealing a good portion of their staff without getting any (at most Cubs give up someone like Hairston) so it makes no sense. Who knows, maybe the Twins have another deal worked out. Thats the only thing I could possibly think of cause I think they'd be clearing up some payroll in that deal. Mays and Loshe make a combined 10 million. Could they be a sleeper and go after Burnett and Lowell or something along those lines. It obviously frees up payroll to allow Terry Ryan to make another move. One thing though, how the hell does a team in the thick of things deal 2 starters.

White Sox Trade Thread
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Has it been confirmed that both Blum & Mackiowak are members of the White Sox now? Mackoviak hasn't been dealt to the Sox. Blum is a White Sox though.

NON WHITE SOX TRADE THREAD
QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) Rich Hill and another ML player from Cubs to Twins. Todd Walker to Texas along with Mays and Lohse, I think I heard. So the Twins deal Mays and Loshe for Rich Hill and another major leaguer. Cubs deal Todd Walker, Rich Hill and another MLer (goes to Twins) for Alf Rangers deal Alfonso Soriano for Loshe, Mays, and Todd Walker Sounds like a nice deal for the Rangers, they get two decent starters and a quality 2nd baseman for Alf. Cubs give up a lot but get a good player...don't see why the heck the Twins do that. Hill is a pretty good prospect, but they better have a way to get some other pitchers.

NON WHITE SOX TRADE THREAD
Curious as to what the Twins would get. I'd think they'd be looking for some ML help and I know they want Soriano so it seems unlikely they would help another team get him. Of course they did make that 3 way with the BoSox/Cubs last year and the Twins are owed a favor by the Cubs for that (IIRC the Twins actually didnt' get everything they could cause the deal was made right at the deadline and there was an error in it). Ryan let the deal go through anyway.

The AJ Burnett Rumor Mill II
I'd deal Conteras/Marte/Sweeney or a similar package for AJ Burnett and Guillermo Mota. Than I'd package Viz and Baj for Scott Eyre. Burnett >>>> Contreras Eyre Mota >>>> Viz (especially when healthy)

QUOTE(fattyguy78 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) he was also available on waivers before too Ya, when the Sox removed Meaux from the 40 man roster this spring...IIRC.

Latest news on Huff and Baez
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Wow, the Giants are stupid if they're gonna keep going for it. Sure, they may make the playoffs, though it's an outside chance even in such a horrible division. But, they'll just get bounced in the playoffs easily. Soriano will add nothing to that team. Their defense will still be bad, which is a major problem for them, and his offense will go down considerably with that park and very little protection in that lineup. And then he's gone after this year, isn't he? God, I've always hated the Giants. They aren't just doing it for this year, they want to compete next year as well when they get Barry back. I don't watch the Giants enough to know how much these moves will help, but Sabean has been a pretty darn good GM (he's willing to give up stuff, but the Giants have been a good team for a pretty long time, so I'd put some faith in his moves).

White Sox Acquire Blum
Meaux was aquired by the Sox from the Giants a few years back in a deadline deal along with Felix Diaz.

Latest news on Huff and Baez
Vizquel would be the best acquisition possible, imo. Well Wagner could be at that stage and Burnett could as well, but Omar wow. Still Giants are in the thick of acquiring Soriano, that tells me they are going for it. Omar isn't going anywhere.

White Sox Acquire Blum
Good move by both teams.

A deal w/ the D-Rays makes sense
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) Nope. It has only been a couple of years since Cleveland non-tendered him. Ortiz was non tendered a few years back too.

A deal w/ the D-Rays makes sense
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) And why is this....just a hunch? I got a feeling. Remember though, I had that same feeling about RJ. Brian Anderson will be a Dray by the end of the trade deadline. Can't figure out who else will be gone. Willie will also likely be a part of the deal. Then there will be 2 more big names in it (maybe one a prospect and the other a reliever like Marte or Viz).

A deal w/ the D-Rays makes sense
Book it....i'm convinced the Sox are going to acquire Huff and Baez.

Sox Interested in Guardado
I'd deal Fields for Guardado in a heartbeat (the 3rd baseman), but the Mariners won't want him.

A deal w/ the D-Rays makes sense
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:04 AM) ok what is it that they care abotu??? MONEY. we both agree on that. how do you maximize your money?? spend the least and get the most production out of your players. if you went to lamarr and said hey chuck, you can win 60 games, or you can win 70 games by spending teh same amount of money. what do you think hes gonna do. maximize the productivity with keepiung money the same. anyone who has had any sort of econ class would understand this edit: an econ class isnt even needed...its not a difficult concept I think you need to understand, the Drays owner makes about as much money as any MLB owner (off of the Drays). He has a minimum payroll, minimum expenses, and gets huge checks in the form of Revenue Sharing from the bigger clubs. He's totally set right now, whether fans come or not, he could give a crap to be perfectly honest. Sure he'd like more to come, but he's not gonna dump in a bunch of money and turn his team into a losing organization. He's a horrid owner, but he makes money.

A deal w/ the D-Rays makes sense
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 06:40 AM) BAJ HAS ZERO TRADE VALUE!!!!!!!! Soxtalk poster or not. Charlotte closer or not. I mean, yes, the guy can probably net something via trade at the prospect level, but when people start throwing his name around as the centerpiece of a MLB level trade I simply laugh. It's just not fathomable. There's a reason the guy still is where he is, and don't tell me because we have a deep depth chart in the BP. Last I looked, we're having some troubles... i.e. Vizcaino He could go with a guy like Vizcaino and get the Sox a quality left handed reliever, imo. However, anything more than packaging him and someone else for a quality reliever would be far fetched (and I'm not talking about an amazing reliever...maybe a guy like Scott Eyre, but even that would be in some doubt).

A deal w/ the D-Rays makes sense
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 06:02 AM) In looking at the DRays minor league guys, they only have one guy with more than 4 saves higher than low A--30 yr old Lee Gardner with 11 in AAA. A guy like Jenks would have to be attractive in a deal. I really think Kenny would have to get swept off his feet to get up a guy like Bobby Jenks. I don't know how else to say it, but of the entire organization I think as of this moment the two guys closest to untouchable are Bobby Jenks (he's gonna be cheap for the Sox and is already looking pretty good...with the ability to turn dominate) and Chris Young. The next on that list would be Brandon McCarthy, however for a pitcher that will be here the next few years, I'd part ways. Anderson, Sweeney, Gio, Tracey and the rest are the group of guys I think your most likely to see dealt from the system. Plus you have the likes of Willie Harris, Jose Contreras, El Duque, Luis Vizcaino, Juan Uribe (if the Sox get a SS in return), and Damaso Marte all potentially avaiable on the major league side of things.

Latest Trade News...
The way it sounds, I think the Sox are working on a lot of deals that could all go down, or just one of them could down. Sounds like Kenny is busy and for the most part it seems like he's interested in all of these guys, not this guy or that guy. He's gonna be agressive. If an opportunity opens up that he likes, he'll take it.

Writing to the Mods
If you email any of us mods or admins we'll pass it on to everyone else. We'll look into the group thing. That would be a nice option to allow someone to collectively email the entire moderating team. But Los, just shoot any of us a PM.

AAP- Tyler Lumsden
He's supposed to be back almost any time now.

Yanks KW called about Duque??
Let it also be known that I still want to keep Brandon around. He could be a very nice 5th starter for the club next year as he develops into a middle of the rotation to front of the rotation starter. I'm liking the idea of Burnett, but I still have my doubts as to whether I'd be willing to part with Bmac. I just don't know how much better the club is with him. I would feel a lot more comfortable if Burnett was here for the next few years.

the overbay deal should be in the works
QUOTE(JoeH33 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) From Bob Nightengale of the USA Today: The Twins, down on first baseman Justin Morneau, were in negotiations with the Brewers for first baseman Lyle Overbay Looks like there may be some competition for Lyle from the Twins. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/columni...ghtengale_x.htm Wow thats interesting. Makes sense for the Twins though cause Overbay will be affordable for a little while longer. Only thing that stinks is they wouldn't have any use for a guy like Morneau (He's been banged up this year, but he's gonna be a big time 1b/DH).
