QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Ed Farmer mention that Jake Peavy might be involved in trade talks... God I would s*** my pants if the Sox got Peavy With the Sox??? I'm scared at what type of major league talent the Sox would be giving up. No way would the Pads deal Peavy without getting an assload.

GAME THREAD 7-16-2005 SOX vs INJUNS
Chisoxfn replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
The tarps being rolled up right now. In fact its already off the field. THey are just folding it in the outfield. Should be ready in about 10-15 minutes. -
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) With all their BP problems if the BoSox waste all their resources going after another bat that'd pure stupidy. I hope they do it. They also want to move Millar.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Jason -- you know I'm a huge fan of Dunn -- but I think he's a real good candidate for the Dodgers, or maybe even Boston (depending on what James/Epstein think about all his K's). I'm thinking LA, though, because they got the prospects to get Dunn. The Dodgers have been the team most linked to Dunn or at least thats what all the radio stations out here say. The Padres have also had some interest (I'm guessing if Nevin gets dealt, Klesko would move to 1st and than they would make a push at Dunn). Of course the Pads could also re-insert Xavier Nady into the starting lineup and he's a pretty solid player.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Holy s*** I would love to have Gustavo on the Sox that would be huge I just don't see why the heck the Jays would deal a youngster that they and so many seem so fond of. It just doesn't make sense, especially if they are getting more prospects in return (which is what the Sox could offer). Only thing I could see, like I said earlier, is some type of 3 way deal, but even than I'd have my doubts. Is Gustavo really that good? I saw him pitch yesterday and he looked alright. I mainly think he's doing good because he has a deceptive delivery, but his stuff doesn't overly impress me at least (I only saw his start against he Sox earlier in the year, part of last nights start and bits of pieces of a few other games). I do realize he's young, but am I the only one that thinks people are over-hyping him?

From the trib: The Sox's pitching staff has allowed one run in its first two games of the second half. At the same time, Sox special assistant Bill Scherrer was in Toronto scouting left-handers Ted Lilly and Gustavo Chacin. My 2 cents: There is zero chance that the Jays will deal Chacin to the Sox unless its part of a larger deal that gets Burnett or another high caliber starter to Toronto. I also feel that as of now Ted Lilly is off the market. However, if the Jays slump and fall out of the race, Lilly could be had (it will cost a decent amount), but he's a solid lefty that could move into the pen during the post-season and give the Sox innings. He's also been on fire the past two months.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) and not have the entire main forum littered with trade threads. good work jas (i'm assuming it was your idea....for some reason, i think i'm wrong ) Actually I'm not 100% if it was my idea or not. I know i talked with a few people and threw this idea out, but I'm not sure if someone else mentioned it as well. Regardless, I'm taking some credit for it, LOL.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Well it would have to be for a prospect with LA cause they have nothing we'd want on the roster. The reports are that it would be for a prospect, so I'm going to assume just that. My guess would be a swingman (guy that could start or relieve thats in AAA) or a middle infielder. Then there is the chance it could be a lefty reliever.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) you're right. Shingo hasn't been terrible, but there's not a place for him in our pen right now. All he was doing was mop up duty lately, we have vizcy for that. He should have some trade value and it should be a win-win situation for whoever gets him The big thing with Viz is that his velocity is coming back. Early in the year he was in the low 90's, but now I've seen him hit 94-95 with a lot more regularity and he's throwing it for strikes. When Viz is on he can be nasty. He still has issues hanging the slider, but its less of a factor when he's able to get the fastball over the plate. Early in the year he was lacking velocity on that hitter and missing his spots and hitters were just waiting for him to hang his slider (they didn't even have to worry about the heater).

Cubsuck23: The White Sox are talking to several teams about upgrading their pitching and could be dangling Jose Contreras as bait another of potential trading partners sent scouts to watch Contreras' most recent start.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Thome is 35 has a bad back and a bad right elbow. He played 492 games at 3rd early in his career. He can no longer play the position. STAY AWAY FROM THOME. I'd look for the Dodgers and Angels to take a look at Thome. The Angels have been looking for a DH for a long time and Thome could definately fit the bill (although the Angels never give up there good prospects). If I were the Dodgers though I'd seriously look into Thome. They've been looking for a bat and Choi hasn't exactly been great at 1st. Then again, I don't know how willing they would be to take on that contract. However, I think that would make as much sense as taking on Dunn (and giving up all it would take to get him). Frankly, I'm not near the Dunn fan some on this board are. His OPS may be ridiculous, but he's over-rated in my book. I'm not saying the talent isn't there and he does have massive power, but I'm a fan of average and guys that put the ball in play (regardless of what the stats tell me) and I frankly think that while his OPS+ is ridiuclous, its not an indicator (in his case) of him being one of the best few hitters in the game.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) i am, as well. He hasn't been used in awhile, today would be a perfect time. I'm all for the "out with shingo" campaign Shingo has done good and I think the team that gets him will be getting a quality reliever. At the same time he won't be around next year and Ozzie doesn't seem to have confidence in him. As the last guy in the pen I'm just as happy with Jenks as I would be with Shingo. I like Jenks upside and I'm assuming if they do keep him he's fitting in the clubhouse nicely. Plus the Sox should be able to get a decent piece for Shingo that could help them via a trade or help them later on down the road (if it is a 5th starter) if Duque goes down again. I could even see Shingo dealt for a AAA lefty reliever to give the Sox some options as an insurance if Marte goes down again.

This is the thread for any White Sox related news on the trade-front that may not be big enough news for its own thread, but should be mentioned none-the-less. Enjoy

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) It could be interesting if Shingo pitches tonight. With a 5 run lead and the fact that Neal and Viz pitched yesterday you'd think this would be a game shingo would pitch. If he doesn't, something definitely coud be up. I tend to think we'll see Jenks throw the 9th, assuming this game doesn't get any closer. I am definately buying into this rumor of Shingo being on the way out.

Does anyone think we should have one general Sox thread as well...just in case there are some sort of potential rumor that may not fit with a player. For example the fact that numerous teams are scouting Contreras? Or should we just have Contreras potentially on the block as a thread?

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) sounds good. you could always keep this sub-forum year-round instead of making a gigantic trade thread. ( i like it, but i know some don't.) This would be away of pleasing both parties My thoughts are during the off-season team discussion gets less and at those parts of the year its almost better for all rumors to be in the main forum (however, if this works out well and everyone prefers to keep the forum year round, I'm definately open to it).

The Chicago White Sox have been linked to Jason Schmidt for a few weeks as well as Omar Vizquel. A recent article acted as if talks on the Schmidt front have been quiet, but a San Francisco beat reporter (via radio) suggested that Takatsu could be part of a larger trade package with the Giants for Schmidt. Note: I'm sure lots of Omar Vizquel news will come up with the Giants, specifically because of the Sox fondness of him as well as the fact that the Sox and Giants have been talking.

Here's my idea...let me see if you guys like it. One big trade rumor thread for all non white sox rumors. Then for every Sox rumor...I'll make a post with that players name and all news related to that deal could go in that thread? This sound like a cool idea?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) He has lost a couple steps ever since his injury. He use to be above average speed wise... now he is lucky to be average His lack of speed has been one of his problems in the field but he has shown he is a pretty good base runner overall. The nice thing is he has very long strides, kind of Vladdy like in a sense. Vladdy isn't exactly fast, but his long ass legs lead him to getting around the bases so stinking quick. Just a random rant, but overall I agree with your assesment and ya, he's really a good baserunner (especially when it comes to going 1st and 3rd).

The Inside Beat This is the new trade related forum for Soxtalk.com This way there can be seperate discussions for everyone interested in regards to White Sox and non White Sox related trade rumors. People can also propose things as well, but if they create a new topic for that, please put Non-Rumor in the topic description so people will understand. Hopefully everyone likes this. Once deals become official or very close to official, we'll move them into the main forum. If anyone has any feedback please post it here, were always open to other things, but I do think with all the rumors that will come up, this will be a great way to keep them all together. Than after the non-waiver deadline the forum will be closed until next year

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) Edwin Jackson has really dropped in his prospect status. He's walked 44 in just over 80 IP, and has only K'ed 52 (between Jacksonville and Las Vegas). Is he hurt? 'Cause, those are not very impressive numbers at all... And, I should say, that until Edwin regains his 'stuff' and his control, I'd rather have Shingo -- for our bullpen use or otherwise. Wow -- he and Greg Miller seemed to have had a rought year or so. The Dodgers are not very pleased with either and both could be had for a little less. In Miller's case health may be an issue but everything I've heard Jackson is or at least was healthy. I know he had some minor injury early in the year but he's been struggling for a long time in AAA. Still, he could be one of those guys that could frankly use a change of scenery. The Dodgers could also use a closer and Shingo would be a nice fit in the LA area. And for those that thing LA has given up your nuts. LA is due to get a bunch of their bats back and has the best pitching in the division (along with the Padres). There is absolutely no reason for them to give up. If they are within 5 or 6 at the deadline, they will be buyers, mark my words. Plus they get the likes of Milton Bradley, Jose Valentin, and JD Drew back. Thats a pretty major difference, imo.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) is it possible this move is just to free up a roster spot for duque? Technically speaking from what I've heard thats what it appears to be as of now. I'm sure they have other things in mind as well, but the Sox are very very happy with Bobby Jenks and from what I hear there are at least some in the org that want him up from here on out. They feel he'll have some down outings, but as a whole he'll be good more often than bad. However, it could also be a pre-cursor, but at the very least I'm sure this is a move that will be done by Monday to open up the spot for Duque.
-
Well that one was just with the full count. Although I'm assuming he stole something today as well (just got the game on around the 5th inning). However, Jermaine has decent speed and when Victor is behind the plate him, Rowand, Guchi, and Pods should all be able to run quite a bit.

Going to move this to the trade thread.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) In other news, who wants to predict whether it will rain on November 17, 2007? According to my weather maps and Ben Franklin there is about a 40% chance of light percipation.
