  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:10 AM) Oh yeah, I heard enough stories from one person in America when I was over there, not to go there. Was that me? I do think Detroit is worse than any major city I've ever been to.
  2. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) Well there's the other acquisition i wanted on the blue line. I wanted another veteran presence, and we got Spacek back. He's a pretty good puck handler, and he's decent in both zones. The defense is done now. The offense, however, isn't. LaPointe makes me go "meh". He was real nasty with Detroit a few years ago, bolted to Boston for a s***load of cash, then proceeded to absolutely suck. He's a "grinder", so he'll be playing on the third line with brown and barnaby i would think. Bell should play on the second line over brown, i think. We still need a top forward though, and i'd love palffy or kariya. I'm not a huge selanne fan because he's so damn soft, but he'd at least put the puck in the net on the top lines. Still need something up there badly. Can't really fault Tallon though, he's thrown the money out there. But the hawks have screwed themselves a little bit as an organization, obviously. I also don't like how long this Khabibulin decision is taking. I'm thinking Khabi is going to make sure the Hawks get another player or two before making his decision. Could be wrong though.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) Hmph, I figured the problem with his change might have been that AJ wasn't calling for it. Anywho...if he can put together a decent slider out there to go along with a 2 seamer, 4 seamer, that nasty curve ball, and a murderous changeup...and he's throwing to a catcher who knows how to mix things up, no one will be able to touch him when he gets to the big leagues. Well your right to an extent on the catcher thing as well, because for a rookie pitcher, the catcher is calling the entire game. It will be interesting in regards to the slider. Don't know how often he'll use it. Right now from what I gather is that he plans on harnessing the 2 seamer. However, it could be a pitch that he works on over the off-season or even during spring training (which is usually a good time to start implementing a new pitch). I'm really excited for Brandon's future, he's going to be a front of the rotation guy for a long time (hopefully on the Southside).
  4. Man, I so hope we get enough people in for this. As far as 12 or 16, doesn't matter to me.
  5. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Next time they bring BMac up, they should put him in the bullpen in long relief. Get his feet wet in the majors without the pressure of starting. He'll be starting. From everything I've heard, the Sox will likely go to a 6 man rotation (assuming everyone is healthy) in September. Basically it will be a way to help get the starters fresh (this is assuming they have things locked up).
  6. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) As I said before, great article. Now I understand why he wouldn't throw his change. Did you get the stats fixed yet? Yep, everything is set now Updated his stats to include the 5th start (including ERA) and than updated his season long stats as well.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 07:00 AM) I hope not. JR is passed his prime, and while it would be a big name and make casual fans happy, just not the right move for this team. If Dale can pull off getting the Bulin Wall and Palffy to Chicago, he should pack up shop, and be done with it. I would be very, very happy. I'd be happy with that. I want Bulin bad...a great goalie can change the landscape, imo.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 06:47 AM) Exactly my line of thinking, this is gotta be setting up of something bigger. A guy like Kyle Calder could be included in a big deal for a #1 center for example. Just trying to think of who that guy would be (Thornton's probably not going to happen, considering I doubt he'll re-sign long term with us). I'd go crazy if they landed Thorton.
  9. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 06:30 AM) Its kind of unfortunate that it seems the Hawks will have to overpay to draw any players to town... mostly due to Wirtz. I would rather have Selanne or Kariya or Palffy and hopefully the Hawks will land one of them but it will probably be for a lot more than Lapointe just got to even get them to consider it...IMO If they could of tried for Kariya and Teamu they may of just landed them. They have been good friends and always like playing for each other. Still I'd love to see a guy like Kariya here. I've long thought he was a little over-rated, but like Murcie said, the rule changes should really help him out and if there is one player I'm at least pretty familiar with it would be Paul (from his days with the Ducks). Very very talented player whose a great scorer. Would be a nice addition, I'd just really like to see the Hawks find a good center for the 1st line.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 06:13 AM) My French isn't so good, but it looks like that saids he signed with the Hawks, right? Yep. So guys, what can you tell me about LaPointe? Is this a good move?
  11. Nice outing
  12. QUOTE(kdhargo @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 05:11 AM) I know it is in retrospect looking back now at the 2000 draft, but after looking at the draft a bit, I had a question pop up that I thought I would ask this knowledge board. The Sox took Borchard at #12 in 2000, with the Phillies taking Utley at #15. We now know today that Utley is the more 'established' MLB-level player, but even w/o such hindsight, why is it that the Sox chose to take Borchard with this pick and not someone like Utley? Utley had better numbers across the board, including power numbers, and he was/is an IF, with Borchard as an OF. So, my question is simple: why did they choose what they did? Wouldn't one have thought that equally (and a bit better) power and average numbers coming from the IF position (Utley) would be more coveted and rarer than from an OF position (Borchard)? Were the Sox that in love with Borchard? When the Sox took Borchard, I think most experts and analysts thought it was a stellar pick. Had he been willing to sign for a reasonable amount (he got a record signing bonus at the time), he'd of been a top 5 selection. Following his first year (he dominates in Bham as well) he was pretty much on the board as one of the 5 best prospects in all of baseball. Borchard had some injuries after that and was never able to make adjustments to his swing, but I don't think there is any reason to say Utley would of been a better pick at that time. Borchard had a great arm, tons of power, and plus speed. He's a great athlete and at that time looked like a tremendous selection.
  13. He's kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place since Rogo is gonna get all the AB's in Bham and ranks higher on the prospect todem poll. With Gload in Charlotte, Rogo doesn't really have a spot to go right now (Sox are taking things slow with him). Daigle is basically an organizational guy, although I'm sure he's opened some eyes this year.
  14. Brandon McCarthy Finds His Groove By Jason Gage August 3, 2005 FutureSox.com Undoubtedly Brandon McCarthy’s name came up quite often in trade discussions these past couple weeks, but no major deal was made and the Sox best prospect will remain in the organization. Despite hearing his name tied to rumors, McCarthy has gone on his best run since spring training. It is also a sign that McCarthy has made the necessary adjustments to go back to pitching the way he has in the past...MORE
  15. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Great article. It definitely explains why he wasn't throwing the change. I do have one problem with that article though. it says that he's 4-7 overall while going 2-0 over his last 4 starts. The problem is that he can't be 4-7 and 2-0 over his last 4 starts, because he was 3-7 at Charlotte before being called up the 2nd time. You beat me to it. Thats a version I have thats up on the site, but is for the most part hidden. I updated his day to day stats with last nights start, but still have to update his season stats. Also have a tad bit of changes to make to the piece. On a sidenote, thanks
  16. Thanks for your guys questions. Were going to mix some of them in with last years questions and a few things we came up with to add. Were gonna begin work on the feature tonight and hopefully in a week the responses will be up. Also, were always open to feedback from this sense, if people want to know about a prospect and want to know a good amount about them, ask us and we'll probably write up a story on it cause if one person is interested, usually a few more people would be interested in that player as well.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) I realize much of Levine's job is to report what he hears, but didn't he basically say on Friday (before the deadline) that the Sox and Cubs would make any moves? He was sort of right... except for, you know, the Sox trading for Blum, and the Cubs trading for Lawton. I think he said those things on Sunday. He was right on the Sox part, but wrong on the Cubs part.
  18. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) Any credence to Levine saying that Griffey wouldn't accept a trade to the White Sox? Bruce mentioned that Griffey only has 4 teams in his contract and, while he respects the WS org., he wouldn't want to go to us since his house is in Orlando and we train in Tuscon. Apparently Bruce has sources in the Reds org. I thought I read earlier that Griffey WOULD accept to go to the White Sox. I can't imagine why not since he would finally have a chance to play for a WS ring. Sorry to extend the misery of this thread. Interesting. The story said that Griffey told his friends that he would accept a deal to the White Sox. However, it would make some sense that he'd like to go to a team that would train on the east coast. However, the question is how badly does he want to leave his home town. I've heard some say he's pretty happy there, but at the same time, he probably is dying to get onto a winning team and over the past few years I think the Sox have shown most of the baseball world that they are committed to doing what it takes to win. Hopefully this year it finally pays off.
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) Kenny Williams actually ended this thread. They asked if a deal still could be done(waiver wire) and he said no or his exact words, "not at this juncture." PK seems happy. Not at this juncture is a lot different than no. That could simply mean, that he hasn't cleared waivers yet so obviously its not going to happen. I'd think if he clears waivers, the Sox and Reds would once again talk. If they reached a deal once than Kenny will try again and hope that the Reds GM to convince management. Plus, we all know Kenny is the type of GM who gets his mind set on a guy or two and will continue doing all he can to work a move out. I think for the most part its a good thing. Thats not to say he doesn't have other plans, but he seems to prioritize things and if its a guy that he thinks is a best option, he'll work his total butt of to do all he can to make a deal happen. On a sidenote, when and where did Kenny say that quote?
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Kap, you hearing anything on 'bulin? A Canadian radio station had Pang on, and he said that Tallon told him Khabi to the 'Hawks was 90%. Apparantly, he wants to play for an O-6 team. I'd be thrilled with this pickup. Still, they need to pick up a good forward/center. Modano would be nice, only thing I wonder is how much it will hurt them to go 4 yrs. Plus from the sounds of his agent, it appears some team offered a 5 yr 5 mill deal.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) Want some company? Another Sox fan is always welcome
  22. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Let's say a guy like Griffey is put on waivers and nobody claims him but the Sox. Now the Sox & Reds agree on a trade involving Young, Rogowski and a fringe prospect. Wouldn't Young, Rogowski and the prospect also have to clear waivers before they can be traded to the Reds? Rogowski would...therefor he's no longer on the board cause he's currently on the club's 40 man roster. However, they could have interest in Honel. Problem is, now isn't a good time to trade Kris, since his value is currently as low as it will be. I think after he kicks butt for the remainder of the season, than his trade value will be back up at least somewhat.
  23. Plus, when I Think of Griffey, I just think of the way he played the game. He always has a smile on his face. During BP with the hat backwards. He's one of those guys that always has a smile and made the game look so easy. Such a sweet swing too. Also, if you look, every month this season he's gotten better in every major category. Had a slow April (understandable and is just rolling). He's getting to the point where he's the same player (offensively) that he once was. Plus at 35, he could still have a few more good years left. He definately makes the club a whole lot better and thats the key.
  24. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) I just wanted to take this chance to say, f*** YOU SONNY VACARO. Ok, I feel much better now :-). Doesn't have much to do with the deal other than him being the pres of Adidas, but I just hate the man. He's a complete slimeball. He is a great interview though. Knows a ton about the sport of basketball and some would say he's ruined the sport a good amount as well.
  25. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) If the A's do end up with Home Field Advantage, which is highly unlikely then the playoff matchups could work out like this: Boston @ Oakland Anaheim @ White Sox I'd peronally rather face the A's in the playoffs. If we can't beat them in the playoffs, then we don't deserve to be there in the first place. If Anaheim wins the West: Boston/Anaheim @ Anaheim/Boston Oakland @ White Sox I've got it all planned out. Angels or A's vs Sox Boston vs Angels or A's (whoever is the division winner of the West) 2nd round (hopefully) Sox vs Angels or A's (whoever beats Boston). Than the 1st two rounds are on the west coast (I'll have tix to every game in Anaheim and have a friend who lives up in Oakland, plus playoff tix are easy to get for the A's). So basically I can help break the west coast slump and than I fly out to Chitown to see at least one world series game Hey, it could happen.
