Chicago Blackhawks Offseason Bonanza Thread
Chisoxfn replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) Now onto the business of a top-line forward -- preferably center. Is Joe Thorton looking for a trade? I thought I'd heard that. He'd look great on a line with Ruutu... Thorton is my favorite player in the league. Him and Nash, if they got him, oh man, I think the Hawk will have won me back. Quite frankly I'm in a debate between the Hawks and the Wings. I've just gotten into hockey (really started to last year) and am tied to the two teams (family and friends are fans of each) and well they have taken to me to some games where I saw both teams. The thing that kills me about the Hawks is Wirtz, but when I was real young I remember rooting for Eddie the Eagle back when he was the man (JR, Amonte, Chelios, Sutter, etc). -
QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Why were they using him as a starter when he got sent down in the spring? I'm not b****in or anything...just wondering what the Sox brass thinking was...just to get him more innings? I think Adkins could be pretty good...he just has a tendency to give up too many long balls if I recall. It mainly dealt with the fact that the Knights needed starters and the Sox didn't want to rush other prospects in order to allow Adkins to pitch out of the pen. Plus, Adkins has primarily been a starter in his minor league career. Basically put, it was supposed to help the Knights win (him being in the rotation)...it just didn't happen. As far as Shingo goes, my guess is he asked to be released (maybe another team came to him and he has a better shot) and the Sox granted him that. That be my best guess cause the Sox are pretty classy when it comes to these things. No matter what, I wish Mr. Zero the best.

How much cap room do the Hawks have left? -
Five stabbed outside dodger stadium after game.
Chisoxfn replied to qwerty's topic in The Diamond Club
Dodger Stadium = Craphole. I've long said it and I'm sticking to it. It sucks cause there are a lot of good things about the Dodgers, one of them isn't their park and antoher one isn't most of the fans that go to the stadium. Wish the best though and it is a safe park to go to, despite this incident. -
Alex got it fixed...afterall he gaged it

A Long Way Back: Kris Honel's Journey Throughout Baseball By Mike Doyle August 1, 2005 FutureSox.com Life was good baseball wise for Kris Honel at the end of 2003 season. The 2001 first round draft pick, 16th overall, of the Chicago White Sox finished up an impressive year by dominating the High-A Carolina League to a tune of a 3.11 ERA over 133 innings pitched. He was rewarded with a promotion to AA Birmingham where he once again pitched well, so well that he was thought of being a future front of the rotation starter by many for his hometown team. The White Sox organization and fans alike were giddy with excitement on what the future held with a starting rotation possibly consisting of Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland and Kris Honel, among others...MORE

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) It's done, I'm just waiting for Heads to get off his ass and post it already. Mike, you can send it to me at [email protected] I'm at work right now but am staying in a hotel this week for work and will have tons of time to do stuff like this (what else do I got to do, in another city by myself, haha). I'll probably be there in an hour and a half. Just throwing it out as an option and I'm really looking forward to reading the piece, sounds like its going to be great.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) Am I the only one who was impressed with Baj last year?? He got hit a bit but everything was a little bloop or a seeing eye single. Yeesh, give up on a guy after 8 innings. The guy can pitch, period. He'll get a chance somewhere eventually and he'll prove himself.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) Huff Lugo Vizquel The thing is though almost everybody is put on waivers during the season so they can see what teams might want for that certain player. I'm sure a lot of White Sox players have been put on waivers. Every year pretty much the entire team gets put through waivers. Its just something you do to open up possibilities. Some guys slide, but if its a reasonably priced player its highly unlikely to happen. Typically its guys with larger contracts or guys will get claimed and the teeam that claimed him will work out a trade with the team that put the players through waivers. No good reliever is gonna get past the BoSox, imo.
-
QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Vizquel would clear waivers, that is if either SD or Ariz get their heads out of their asses and put some distance between them and SF No way, someone would pick up Omar well before he ever came to the Sox. Remember every team in the NL would get a chance at him first and than every team in the AL (since the Sox have the best record). No way would he go unclaimed, imo.

Brandon will gain more experience the rest of the year for Charlotte. He's still a little over a year removed from being in Kannapolis (don't forget that). It appears he's getting things figured out in AAA and is starting to get comfortable. My guess is the Sox will call him up in September and if the Sox clinch relatively early you'll see Brandon enter the rotation as the Sox expand it to a 6 man rotation. Basically it will be a way to give the starters a little extra rest before entering the postseason. I for one am happy. No one else significantly upgraded their team and because of that the Sox were able to keep their farmhands, two of which are pretty damn good (Anderson/Brandon).

Actually I think the Sox may be major players in the Furcal sweepstakes this offseason.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Ho hum we got Blum.......................tell me again KW how we will get any player and have the ability to increase payroll to help win a world series, talk more BS KW Sox fans no longer buy it. I used to rip KW but all of his offseason moves have been great. I trust him right now. I'm glad he didn't trade McCarthy and that good minor league outfielder for somebody like Randa, etc. We still are 30-plus over .500 thanks in large part to KW and Ozz. Thats the way I look at it Greg. One thing you know about KW (whether people are fans of his moves or not) is that he's always looking to make that big splash. He's the ballsiest GM the Sox have had (for better or worse) and if there was a guy out there he'd of got him. Obviously there wasn't one and not many teams ended up being sellers. The way I see it, I couldn't be more pleased with this trade deadline. The Sox are the best team in baseball and the teams chasing them didn't make any major splashes. Sure it would of been nice for the Sox to land Huff or Burnett, but the price tag was obviously way to high on Huff and the Fish decided to hold onto AJ. Since none of the other teams got stronger, the Sox end up looking pretty solid. They got the best record in baseball and kept all their major pieces, specifically Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson. Those guys could end up helping the club later on this year (you know both will be up in September) and at the very least they'll help give some guys some extra rest and they may turn into key players next year. Plus the Sox still have tons of trading chips for a waiver trade or a move this offseason for a bat to potentially replace Paulie or Frank (both may be gone).

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) But they definately said the whitesox Interesting. They claim he's a troll. Considering the reports that Moyer turned down deals to Houston and Atlanta, I can't see him accepting a deal to the Twins. However thats a deal that makes no sense for the M's anyway cause they have Sexson/Beltre at 1st/3rd.
-
QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) I don't know if he can play outfield, but he was primarily a first baseman at AAA. The D-Backs were going to move Tracy to RF... He's primarily a 1st baseman.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Ok Josh, let me get this straight. First you are not sure he said Red or White, and now you are saying he screwed up completely because he definitely said White Sox? Am I the only one confused here? By the way was the Lawton deal officially announced, who did the Piratees get? Jody Gerut. WSI also has afew members that say they heard this. It was per Mike Dahl, whoever the hell that is. For those wondering, Tracy is hitting right around .300 with 14 hr's in a semi platoon role. He was one of their top prospects and is a very very smooth hitter.
-
There we go...others have heard it. Is Chad Tracy on his way to the Sox (quickly gets all giddy)? We shall see, but I'd be so so happy. It be a great move for the now and future, depending on who they give up.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) Red Sox just traded Youkilis, so I bet the Tracy thing was the Red Sox. Has the Red Sox Twins deal officially been announced?
-
Quick I agree. But Its not like he's just started posting so I'll give a little leeway here. We'll see what happens. We shall see what happens.

Griffey Manny
-
I'll give Josh the benefit of the doubt here. But were you listening on the radio or what? Someone else would of heard it plus it wouldn't be for a PTBNL. Chad Tracy is someone that would cost some decent prospects and maybe even a major league reliever.
-
*perks ears* If the Sox get Tracy I'll be so freaking happy. The guy is a hell of a player and is only going to get better. I like him as much as Overbay and the nice thing is he could also slide to 3rd if Crede went down. My guess is the Dbacks would want bullpen help.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) Gerut's not the same player that he was before the injury. I haven't been impressed with him at all this year. And keeping Matt Lawton was gonna help the Pirates? The Pirates can give Gerut playing time and he'll get hit timing back and you'll see him improve. This is a solid move. Lawton isn't a god or something.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Yo Jason. Just wanted to say thanks for creating this cool forum. I liked it. I assume it's coming down after today? I think we'll keep it up during the waiver period...than it will maybe turn more into a speculation forum. I'm not sure what we'll do in the off-season with it. Part of me thinks thats what PHT really is during the off-season, however, if people want we could continue to have this sort of forum (in the off-sason for rumored players the club is after, as well as people giving their ideas on off-season moves they'd like to see get made). Basically put, when August 31st rolls around we'll look at everyones feedback and if you guys/gals want to keep it open, it'll be open

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Ripping off the Pirates for Matt Lawton? I'd be surprised if they got much of anything for him. He's nothing to get excited about. Jody Gerut is a good player. I like that deal for the Pirates. Give him every day playing time and I think the Pirates will be quite pleased. He hasn't been as good this year as he was last year, but he's a good player.
