QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Huff would help more. He is a left-handed bat who always seems to heat up in August in spetember. ( when I say heat up I mean hit over .350) He can play 4 positions. With Credes back being a factor Huff would be a HUGE pick up. I'd rate Overbay over Huff and I'm not as high on Overbay as some. Also, Overbay is a lefty as well. The way I see it Huff may be versatile, which can be nice, but with the Drays asking price (I wouldn't give up Bmac in a Huff deal) I can't see it making sense. Overbay on the other hand, I'd give up a package like Sweeney/Gio or Anderson and a guy like Tracey. Of course I still think Chad Tracey would be sweet.

Good call. I just closed the other Burnett thread.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:16 AM) Yes, two excellent points. I guess, at some point, you have to ask yourself if Griffey is costing you more than the scratch he is bringing in through the turnstiles. As for Dunn + Milton, you would undoubtedly hurt Dunn's value package, but you would get out from under a NASTY contract in the meantime for a very, very underwhelming player in Eric Milton. To a team like the Reds, I think the most important thing to getting things back is getting out from some horrible contracts. If they could get rid of at least a decent chunk of Griffey's and all of Miltons (which would happen if you included Dunn in the deal) than I think the team could finally start moving towards developing players, resigning its players it likes (before they hit arb...ala the Indians) and slowly getting things righted. Plus they still should get some good prospects out of the deals (not as much as they could if they didn't unload contracts, but for a small market team, 1st priority has to be unsaddle yourself of those things). If they do that, I'd call it a winning trade deadline for them. They got Edwin Encarnacion coming up, they need to start making more of a push at drafting collegiate pitchers (imo) and slowly yet surely they could start building themselves a nucleus.

Hey Torn...thanks for helping out with this whole thing. Its greatly appreciated

Ya, when we moved in to our current house there was a lot of construction going on (its a pretty new development) and when we were in you have neighbors putting in their yards, you have the houses right behind us still being finished. Went on for a few months (the whole area went on for a few years) and it sucked, mainly during summer when I'd have to make sure my window was shut (which meant my room was super hot) so I didn't hear the noise quite as badly.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:13 AM) Heck yes, for two main reasons. 1) I believe Dunn will net a lot more via trade at this point in his career...his stock is awfull high right now at 25 or 26 years of age. 2) GRIFFEY IS THE ONLY DRAW IN CINCY Like I've said before, I'd have to be blown off my feet to trade Griffey right now despite the albatrose of a contract. You see what I'm getting at? I'd deal them both, cause quite frankly, Griffey may be the only draw, but he still costs them more than he brings in, imo. They need to get from out of his contract. If I were to deal Dunn, I'd hurt his trade value a bit, but I'd try and tie Eric Milton to him.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) Good points. But there are other reasons I don't want Soriano. He's a hack at 2B and he's another RH hitting free swinger. This club is moving away from bad glove RH thumpers, not collecting them. My theory is...8 million on Thomas or similar money on Soriano. I'll take Soriano any day of the week. However, If the Sox go deep (and fail or win) I could definately see them think long and hard about making Furcal a big money offer. He'd come in and add another "Ozzie" like player. Ozzie has also played with him so assuming the two got along and Ozzie is a fan, I think the move would make a lot of sense. Of course the move would likely mean Uribe is shipped out in a deal. Is Furcal 4-6 million bucks better than Uribe (I'll let the Sox be the judge of that). Consider this though, between Timo and Ben Davis the Sox will save about 2.5 million, so that alone could essentially cut up some of that difference.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:21 AM) 1. They say that now, but things change...Just like Lee last year was untradeable..The Dye part of the deal.. WE need to get rid of him in order to make room for Giles who better fits this team. 2. Read the whole post.. He hits 9th to take the spot of the loved Uribe :rolly. Lets see if Uribe is worth about 4 mil a year then you have to figure 6-7mil for a better player.. I am sure you will disagree, becuase why pay for good players right? But its to early to see what the market price is for STARTING SS 3. Again this is a question that is to early to answer in regards to the money part of it. THe pads have Nady and Guzman in the wings waiting..I don't think they are looking to keep to much in regards to OF payroll. 4. And when I made the same defense in regards to OH, I got ripped on...No your right lets try and trade for Jarret Wright he fits in here much better :rolly Furcal will get no less than 9 million a year. You can take that to the bank. Phillies just gave Rollins a long term deal worth basically 10 mill a year and Furcal (aside from his semi slump for the 1st half of the season) is a superior player to Rollins.

I wouldn't deal Aaron for Griffey. I'd deal Jermaine Dye for Griffey though and worse case move Rowand to RF (although Rowand is a better CF than Griffey). Still, long term, Griff is best suited more so as a DH who can ocassionally play in the field, imo (just smarter considering his injury background).

QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:27 AM) According to Levine, the Giants want a veteran pitcher, blue-chip pitching prospect and either Anderson or Sweeney for Schmidt. Schmidt has 2M left this year and 10.5M for next year. Seems like too much, especially if Vizquel isn't involved. Would you guys do Contreras, Bmac, Sweeney and say Valido for Schmidt and Vizquel. I must say, I'd definately think long and hard about it. Mainly because I want Vizquel badly Plus Schmidt is a total horse and wouldn't be a 3 month rental.

Huff wouldn't be bad now that Franks out for a while. Plus I think Huff fits in nicely over the off-season replacing either Frank as a DH or Paulie at 1b. However, I wouldn't expect Huff to play much at 3rd but he's at least an insurance option at the same time. Plus I think he'd put up monster numbers at the cell. Personally speaking, I think the DRays deal off this offseason. Plus Lamarr has to be the worse GM to negotiate a trade with. He just tried to totally one side a deal to his side (not saying its not his job, but at times when you got to make a deal it typically should make sense for each team involved).
-
I'm starting to think that Contreras plus Marte for Lowell and Burnett makes a lot of sense (especially if the Sox could find a way to get Mota or some decent minor leaguer as well). The deal makes sense cause I think the Sox want to get rid of Contreras and feel Burnett is an upgrade. Basically put the Sox would lose Marte but at the same time they keep Bmac as a chip plus they still have their entire farm to find them another lefty. Burnett is a guy with the ability to be an upper echelon pitcher and has once been an ace of a staff (pre-injury). His stuff alone is amazing and well if your gonna roll the die I won't complain, but if they give up both Contreras and Bmac, than I'll have my doubts.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) The only problem with that is he's never had a season of 30/100. He had one season of 22 HRs and 99 RBI but other than that he's never hit more than 15 HRs in a season and has never had more than 72 RBI. I would call him more of a 20/85 or 20/90 guy, not 30/100. I think he has 15 HR right now.

Guys, the Sox haven't yet offered AJ anything. Any reports on that are a little early. It isn't that close yet, however, I do think the Sox are willing to offer somewhere around the reported 3yr 30 mill and obviously want to get something done. Before that happens they got to get closer to working out the deal with the Marlins.

Nice win

I'd deal Bmac, Gio and Anderson for Michael Young. Don't know if the Rangers would though.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) could the Sox spin lowell of to another team for some prospects if they get him. What other team needs a 3rd baseman? Dodgers or Angels could use one. However, I don't see the Sox spinning off Lowell to a team like the Angels. They sure as hell aren't going to help a team in playoff contention unless they got something that would help them in return. I think the Sox plan on using Lowell as depth. He can be a part time DH, play a little LF, and play 3rd (to fill in for Crede). Plus after this year he'd replace one of Frank/Paulie.
-
No way Texas moves him. They lose Soriano at the end of the year and will either slide Young over to 2nd or Kinsler (SS prospect) that way. They'd be freaking morons if they dealt Young. However, I'd gladly give up an assload for him.
-
The Sox and Marlins are still enough apart for there to be no negotation window between Burnett and the Sox. Levine reported the Sox would be willing to offer AJ 30 million. However, before they can set aside a window for his agent, the Sox and Marlins would have to get closer on a deal. The major holdup is the Marlins would like a veteran starter in return and may have to swing another deal (to get that veteran) prior to (or after) picking up Brandon/Marte. There has also been some talk of Lowell potentially coming. Basically put, there is definately some smoke to this, but nothing imminent.
-
I have very little expectations for Frank down the stretch. Heck the past couple weeks the club woudl of been better letting Everett stick as the every day DH. If Carl does well between now and the deadline, I don't think the Sox will add a bat. They could do something after the non-waiver deadline though.

Wish I could make it out there for this.

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) they should be mad at padres brass who gave him that right... Yep. I can't blame him. Personally I'd probably accept the deal regardless of how much I like it. I'm not the type of person that would want to stick around a place where your not wanted. Still, If he accepts the trade than he moves to Bmore and than becomes a FA and than has to move again.
-
Flat out the Padres fans are very very upset with Nevin. This is the 2nd time Nevin has nixed a deal as he was dealt for Griffey two offseasons ago.
-
Just want to point out that he never had any surgery. I'm 99% sure Cerb will catch that, but wanted to make sure just in case

Staying Pat isn't necessarily a horrible thing. Look at the Angels, they have rarely done much anything at the deadline and they won the series a couple years back.
