Chicago Blackhawks Offseason Bonanza Thread

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Kovalev could be the best hockey player on the planet if he would try hard night in and night out. The guy has awesome skills and ability but just seems to be the typical Russian with being lazy more so than not.... OH man, I get goosebumps at the thought. I don't know whats happening to me, but I'm following this thread religiously and I've never been into hockey (until just before the strike). I got to say, I'm getting pumped about the Hawks...you all have done it. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) So they still are 18 million under the cap?? -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) Sean is in the minor leagues. More insurance I guess. I'd be thrilled with this move. Burroughs will never develop into the player the Pads thought he was, but he's still capable of turning into a good role player and could still turn into an average 3rd baseman. Not a bad insurance plan, especially since Borch will be leaving the org at the end of the year. Very interesting on the Griffey front. Giving up Young would of sucked, but I think I'd of made that deal, especially since they were getting a decent portion of the contract paid. Who knows, it could still happen.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Perhaps B-Mac is using his change a lot more, and still trying to get used to throwing it for strikes, instead of just relying on his fastball - curve combo. Nevertheless, another good outing. Matt Nachreiner had 4 K's in 2IP for Great Falls. Needs to make a move soon. Richard is looking good thus far though, a chance to pitch in Kanny at the start of next season perhaps? Just wait till my writeup, I got some good details on his rebound.

I got a new piece on Brandon due up tomorrow talking about him and his potential impact down the stretch. He's getting things back together and is back to his old self and than some

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) Hard to believe we have a better road record than home record. Let's get a few wins at home here. Sox have hit a minor home slump since that Oakland series prior the the break. Before that it was pretty much even. Hopefully the Sox can get back on track at home starting tonight

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) This guy deserves to have the s*** beat out of him. Make his asshole suffer, badly.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) For what, to clean off the tables? Actually, Ricobene's is a good choice for Sat. afternoons, it is a great place to get some food on the cheap, you can park in the lot across the street, get pitchers of Michelob for $7 and go right down Wells to the parking lots. Plus on your way down Wells, you can waive to Mario

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Hrdak or whatever on ESPN supposedly said that Modano has made his choice between Boston and Chicago. I'm not thrilled with a four-year deal with Modano; he's already in his mid-30s. But, at least for the first two years of his contract, he'd be a Top-10 center in the league. I can't complain. He's a big name and when healthy he's a very good player who makes everyone else better. Plus signing a guy like this brings confidence to every player in the organization because this is a move you make to show that you have confidence in the team and that you are playing for the playoffs. Basically it raises the bar on expectations and to me, thats always a good thing. -
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Even though I made this thread, sadly I am not aware of teh details of the trade. What did we give up for Blum? LHP Ryan Meaux who was pitching in AA Birmingham.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. They created a word in the dictionary for me..."Gaged" Your not at my level yet, but in due time

I can't say enough about how great of a player Frank was. I wish him the best in his recovery and I hope he is able to come back and play a few more good years. Its too bad he had some blowups, but aside from that, he was definately a great player.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Palmeiro admitted that it was a steroid. He just "didn't know" how it got into his body. Ya, he was taking them via injection, creme, and pills so he's not sure which one it was that turned up.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Jason if you end up being an Iowa fan AND a Wings fan... Anyway, Hawks still have a ton of cap room left. I can't remember the exact number they are at though. I'm looking for a huge impact forward right now, i can't wait to see who Tallon can get. I can't freaking wait for football season to start. Iowa beating up on Ball State in early September.... -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) I'm pimpin' the Geoff Blum sig, so he better kick ass for the Sox or I'm gonna look like a damn fool. As if you haven't already

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Well, you definitely want to have some DL players on the list - so you can add a rookie or two if they're having a hot Sept. The Angels did this in 2002 - I forgot who was on the DL at the time, but it allowed them to bring K-Rod into the playoffs with them, even though he only came up two weeks earlier. I love the idea of Frank pulling a Kirk Gibson. It was the old time lefty that ended up having an aneurism or something. May of even been Kent Mercker (I forget). It was also the last lefty the Angels had in the pen until this season with youngster Jake Woods.

Sox possibly to face most touted prospect since...
Chisoxfn replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They faced him in spring and did pretty good against him. He has an unbelieavable arm though.
