  1. If hypotheically I dealt Contreras to the Dbacks for Tracy (a deal I think they'd think about, with them eating the entire contract). Than I'd sign AJ Burnett and would than deal El Duque to a team to open up a spot for Brandon McCarthy. Payroll wise the rotation stays about the same, but I like a rotation of Buehrle/Garland/Garcia/Burnett/Bmac more. Offensively you get yourself a player who I believe is better than Carl Everett (plus he's a legit lefty hitter) that can also spell Crede and Konerko. Than the club can trade for Carlos Delgado and let Konerko walk. Deal Brian Anderson and maybe one more prospect for him (I think the Marlins are going to have to deal him this off-season cause he's going to be making a ridiculous amount of money). Insert Chad Tracy to replace Everett and Delgado to replace Konerko. Financially once again payroll stays the same and the team has agreed two pretty damn good left handed bats. The club now has the payroll jump to do whatever it wants at SS and 3rd base (basically my guess is 10-15 million and by the time you give Garland his raise it will be more like 10 million). Now if the math sounds a little funny: Contreras (7 mill or so)....Burnett (11-12 mill or 4-5 mill more, which is what Duque makes who also gets dealt and McCarthy makes league minimum so between the two the payroll is basically 12 million). Konerko makes 8 or so million...Delgado will get about 13, which is a 5 mill difference. Chad Tracy gets minimum while Everett makes 4.5 mill so you roughly break even there again. The Sox than buyout Thomas contract which saves you another 5 mill (after the buyout) which goes to Garland's raise, which is basically the only thing left. The club now basically stands at 75 mill (which is where I think payroll currently is) with all the new moves (ie Delgado/Burnett/etc). Ken Williams now has, depending on the 2006 payroll, 10-15 million to give to free agents or to use on a player acquired via trade. End pipe dream though cause that would be a whole lot of moves for a team making the playoffs. However, I think that would make for one hell of a team. Don't ask me how to spend the other money, but I'd probably spend half of it on a ss or 3rd baseman and the other half on a guy like Billy Wagner.
  2. Get over it people. Its not like Soxtalk was the only place discussing this rumor. Sure it was one of the places it originated (but their was at least some smoke to this and who knows, something may still happen...I guess we'll see). However, I don't like it when respectable posters say something trying to pass us information and get burned. They aren't Bruce Levine (Who people love to rip because he gives us rumors that don't come true...doesn't mean that the stuff he hears isn't true either). I love the fact that people are willing to share stuff with us here and ripping people for doing that just isn't cool in my book.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) He stole 66 Bases in 6 years in the minors. He stole 34 bases in 3 years in the majors. He stole 22 bases for the Sox in '98 and stole 24 for Bellington in '96. Mike Caruso WAS fast. What's your point? He was faster than fast. Caruso was a really fast player.
  4. Radio Show You can also download it to your ipod if your into podcasting. Hopefully its not too terrible and feel free to leave some feedback
  5. I'll be there to hopefully cheer on a Sox winner
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 08:22 AM) You have a couple of top prospects lying around your house? Sure, Caruso does his dry-cleaning and Barcelo picks up around the house
  7. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) If you look at the transaction logs there are listings for players clearing waivers & being re-assigned to the minors in the month of August. Griffey clearing isn't in any transaction log. This is a different type of waivers, they let the players clear through and than they are available for trade. Its only documented on the major league waiver wire which goes to all the teams and the major league offices. On a sidenote, I think Colorado was the worse or one of the 2 worse teams last season when they made the trade so they didn't need guys to pass through waivers (most likely).
  8. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) Reason to hope: Aug, 2004 STL acquires Larry Walker from COL for mler pitcher Jason Burch & 2 PTBNL (turned out to be two more pitchers). Money wise the 37 yr old Walker was owed $4M in 2004, $12.5M in 2005, & a $15M option/$1M buyout in 2006. COL picked up $7.5M. Leaving STL on the hook for $10M. If STL was willing to take on $10M for a year & 2 mo's of Walker's services the CWS should be willing to take on $23.5M for 3 years & 1 mo of Griffey Jr's services. I don't think any one would suggest that Griffey Jr is worth any less than Walker was at that time. As for the 3 pitchers involved none of them are listed on COL's ML roster this year. So far the trade's been one sided. If IIRC, a PTBNL can not be a player on the 40 man roster?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) 400 dollars is pretty steep, regardless of the package. I know Sony and Nintendo are going to have smaller pricetags than that. Its always bad to come out with your stuff first. Gates has to start realizing the difference in Game Consoles and PCs. People need PCs for work, organization, etc. therefore the pricetags he slaps on his software is somewhat justified. But Gaming Consoles are pure entertainment, and on top of that they are cheaper within a year and out of date in 2 years. Sony is supposed to be at a minimum of 500 and I've heard some people say it could be higher.
  10. Very interesting. Could Andy Pettite be the old time pitcher and not Roger? It will be interesting to see what happens thats for sure. For those that aren't familiar with Spataro he used to run a White Sox site way back in the day before SoxNet was ever around. Good to see ya back around these parts

Pretty much everyone calls me Gage. And than a couple of my buddies will ocassionally call me Ten-Gage.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) Wouldn't that border on collusion? I've been told that teams will do that sort of stuff, but on a less formal basis (for the exact reason you say). Its kind of one of those un-written things. However, if a non-contender wants someone they'll take him and that can definately happen more often than not. In the Sox perspective if they are making a deal with a team in the NL involving someone on the 40 man roster, well, unless that person is Ryan Wing or Kevin Walker, he's not going to get through unclaimed.
  16. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) No it's common sense. This isn't X-Box. It's the real world. There's consequences for the dumb-arse moves you make. I should add I do agree with one thing your saying Juggs and its the non-contenders. I don't think non-contenders block deals. The reason behind this is, not just one non-contender is trying ot make a deal, usually most, if not all of them are and I think when it comes down to it them blocking a deal is just going to get them burned because than the other teams will block their deal. They are making these trades to get better, but aren't going to the playoffs anyway. So I tend to think those deals get blocked less often (of course how the non-contenders know not to put a claim on a certain player, I don't know). Heck, Gm's may call up those teams (hoping they have a good relationship) and may ask a player to slide (sometimes you get those extra type of moves when you make a few trades or a team owes you a favor). In terms of Bmac though, no contending team in the AL would let him slide through cause they know he's the type of guy that could bring the Sox a potential impact player.
  17. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Replacing Konerko with Blum probably saved a game in NY as Blum snared a liner headed for the RF corner with the tying and winning runs on base for the Yankees. Edit: Now, I'm suddenly not so sure it was against NY. Actually that was another thing I questioned. Blum made a heck of a nice pick in the bottom of the 9th, but I can't figure out why Blum is out their for defensive purposes. I figure Konerko is the better of the two defensively, especially when it comes to picking the ball. Maybe I'm wrong though and that was a sweet pick by Blum on Uribe's throw (it was a very good play all around).
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:37 AM) How often has a lower record team claimed players going to the non-contender to block a contender? I can't recall any such year. I don't think we can rule it out just yet. Keep in mind any player the White Sox request ML waivers on to facilitate the trade the Reds get to claim before any contender. Teams with worst records than the Reds would be the only ones to block it. Why would they do that? The entire American League could be able to block McCarthy before the Reds even got a shot at claiming him. There is no way a team would let McCarthy slide through, especially a contender cause if they saw Brandon on his way through they'd instantly know a big time deal was in play and nab McCarthy, therefor in a sense blocking the trade.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Question to throw out there. Would you actually like to see the Sox lead get to about 6 games on September 15th?? While that is number would be very low, it would certainly give the Sox a kick in the ass, and maybe more motivation to pick up the pace. Im not saying I want it to be at 6 games, but would it be the worst thing in the world for this team right now? no, cause it means they've been tanking it down the stretch and thats the last thing I wnat to see.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) I after reading many of the sox threads believe this about Charlotte any ideas on why the better team spirit and players are better at double AA Bham? I'm not in the lockeroom on a day to day basis but I think a large part of it has to do with the extent of AAAA veteran on the club and for that fact most AAA clubs. Quite frankly I think you end up getting a lot of guys that end up getting really frustrated and that the young players just don't have fun being around. On a AA team you usually don't have many guys that have been around the minors for a long time. I think you also have a little more team unity because most of the guys on a AA team are similar in age while a team like Charlotte has very few young players and quite a few guys that are a lot older. I do think you'll see a different group of vets brought in next year down in Charlotte, at least to a certain extent. It also looks to be a much younger club.

Umm...Mcgwire never got caught or at least not that I know of.
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) Who do you think would cost more Villone or Ibanez? Villone but still... Seattle has proven that they are dillusional with the best of 'em. Asking for Brandon McCarthy for Villone was bulls*** and I could see them making a similar request for Ibanez which just isn't going to happen. I know we couldn't move McCarthy or Anderson if we wanted to but IMO they'd be asking for a guy like Sweeney, Gio or Young. Ibanez has a worse contract so I don't think they'd have that type of an asking price. Than again I've been in shock over what a lot of teams have been asking for. Heck, I'd like to think Munoz and Diaz would be an offer the Mariners would listen to. But with recent trends I think its more like Tracey and I got to be honest, I'd still be really hard pressed. Once again, to me it comes down to how much of an upgrade is Ibanez over Everett and quite frankly I'd rather have Everett playing everyday than Ibanez (whose having a pretty damn good year). I think Everett is a little more battle tested.
  23. Just want to point out...Angels turned down acquiring his contract at the trade deadline and I'd think they plan on doing the same thing. They don't appear all that interested in Sweeney. Although, Oaklands surge could definately make them think a little harder. Also Casey Kochman will not be part of the package, he wouldn't clear waivers. On a sidenote, he's starting to look a lot more like the guy scouts thought he'd be (ie a pretty damn good player). Seems to be a lot more agressive during his most recent callup and its showing (average is still awful, but lately he's been doing pretty good or at least in the games I've seen).

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) Agree 100% Jason. Whether you're a scouts guy or a stats guy, you can't deny that Baj is CLEARLY better than his competition at Charlotte. When I saw him pitch in the AAA All-Star Game, I saw at least two plus pitches. He only pitched for an inning (maybe it was two?), but I saw a good fastball, and a really good slider. And, amazingly, he's having (arguably) the BEST year of his pro-career. He's striking out about 10.95 batters per nine, and his ERA is at a career low 1.17. And that was after a bad outing, too -- it's been teatering (sp?) 1.00 the whole season. There is no reason that hasn't gotten a shot with the big club. I hear all the time, "Oh, you could tell that he doesn't have it", and people say this based on the eight f***ing innings he pitched last year, and you have the feeling that Ozzie feels the same way -- that he can judge a guy by such a small sample size. Almost the same story with Majewski. He K'ed about a batter per inning at Charlotte, and even more amazing, gave up only TWO homers in over 40 IP. And he never got a shot with the White Sox, either. It's a touchy subject with me, because people say that I only think he's good 'cause he posted at Soxtalk. And those people have no clue how awesome he's been at Charlotte. By the way Keith, I saw you mentioned Josh Fields. He's a really interesting guy, but he's undergoing surgery (I think its like a labrum operation...not positive, gonna shoot his agent an email before I head out to Chicago) and will be out for the season. Supposedly he'll be back at 100% by the start of the season, but I gotta admit I now have some doubts about Fields. Hopefully he can come back and pitch cause the guy always appeared to have a rubber arm (he'd go innings out of the pen and really had great periphial stats).
