QUOTE(KJean @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) Woooah, I'm surprised there's quite a few Accounting/Finance majors here. Most of the time when people find out what I'm majoring in they gasp loudly and ask, "why the hell are you doing that?" Umm...because I want to! I get that all the time, but quite frankly there are so many opportunities. For me the only reason I'm doing finance is because I need 150 units to meet the requirements for the CPA exam in my state. However, job market is unbelievably strong for accountants.

  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) I know. I like the in-state games. Not quite the same thing as basketball, but still nifty. In basketball I'm worried about the in-state games. NIU, ISU, Drake...they all seem to be capable and do knock the Hawks off from time to time. Especially the Clones.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 05:57 AM) Giambi didn't go in front of the world and swear with his right hand that he never took steroids... period. I can't help but root for Giambi (and I hate rooting for anyone on the Yankees) but he handled the entire situation so classy.
  5. QUOTE(TimB @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) Hi everyone, I'm new to the board, so I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere. I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning and Jason Stark was filling in for Golic. When asked about Griffey moving to the White Sox, here's what he had to say: 1) Trade was probably not as close to being completed as Williams has eluded to. Apparently neither Griffey or his agent were asked whether they would wave the no trade clause 2) It'll be tough to claim him on waivers since the original deal included minor leaguers. Apparently minor league talent is tough to move through waivers since other teams can snatch them prior to the Reds. This is news to me. I didn't realize trades during this period required both parties to move their players through the waiver wire, but that was in essence what he was saying. Bottom line, Starks does not believe Griffey will be going anywhere. Stark rides the short-bus, because minor leaguers not listed on the 40 man rostere don't have to clear waivers. So Chris Young and quite a few of the Sox top prospects would be able to get offered in deals without having to clear waivers. Brandon McCarthy, however, will not be traded.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 05:08 AM) If Everett gets going again, put him in the #5 hole, that will definitely bring some balance to the lineup. I want Rowand in the 3 hole and Timo back on the bench.
  7. Offenses hit slumps, but thus far the club is still playing a little over .500 ball since the break and I think of it as quite the positive considering the woeful hitting as of late. Now lets take the rubber game today.
  8. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) Was extremely impressed with Lumsden. I think his curve is on-par with Gio and he throws much harder than Gio. We'll have to see if he can get healthy, but he is, IMO, the most talented lefty in the system. Last season I saw him hitting 95 and dropping an absolutely unhittable curve on guys. This was still as he was getting over his dead-arm period. I didn't see enough of him to have a great feel for control or pitching instincts, though. Again, I like Gio a lot, but IMO, Lumsden and Whisler are the best LH'd arms in the system followed by Gio and Haigwood. Pitching instincts, mechanical consistency and control are on Haig and Gio's side, but pure talent and stuff has to go to the first 2, IMO. I'm starting to wonder if we'll even see Lummy this year. I'm trying to get an update on his status cause Lumsden is a guy that has some of the best stuff of any pitcher in the system. I think him and Sean Tracey have the best arms (from the left and right side) in the organization. We'll just have to see what happens. Lummy is also a very heady pitcher and has extroardinary mound presence.
  9. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 06:47 AM) Haig has and never will hit mid-90's... BA also said Brian Miller had the best RH power arm in the system... And referred to it as "easy heat"....LMAO Oh and Jesse Foppert consistently hits the upper 90's, ie 99. Yet in the big leagues he tops out at 93. BA is a great publication, but a lot of the velocities that they report are laughable. And from what I know, Haigwood tops out at the very low 90's, but usually pitches in the upper 80's.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) Haigwood's having a very B-Mac like 2004, where he's jumped to a higher level and just gotten better. Hopefully he can stay away from the injuries that caused him to miss a lot of action so far in his minor league career. Would I call him our best pitching prospect though? He'd have to keep pitching the way he has probably for the rest of the season, but I think after McCarthy, people are probably going to rate Gio a little higher (even though he's struggled with his ERA at Winston - Salem). His only injuries weren't arm related IIRC. I always confuse him and Rodriguez, but IIRC Ryan Rodriguez had the arm/shoulder injury that forced him out a full season while Haigwood had a knee injury and is completely over it. Like Cerb referenced earlier, when we talked to him last season around this time he said he had just started feeling 100%. He also mentioned how he was gaining a lot of confidence in his changeup. It seems to be a pitch that the Sox organization is doing a very good job teaching. That and the cutter and I think both are very good pitches.
  11. QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Thanks for the replies. It is good to see that Haigwood is quietly flying under the radar and putting together a solid season. I am also not giving up complete hope on either Malone or Honel. I think that Malone can be an effective lefty reliever, and will probably get a shot at some point if he stays healthy. Another guy who I think can be a real sleeper is Rodriguez. I have noticed that he has pitched very well and been very consistant over the past month plus. I remember that he had a plus arm from the left side before his injury, and it appears that he is starting to regain his stuff if the numbers are any indication. On the whole, it appears that the Sox system is on the way up again and could be in the top 10 by the end of the season. With Malone, from what I was told is they moved him to the pen to simply limit his innings because the Sox want to be extra careful with his arm. I was told they are very pleased with his progress this season (coming back from injury) and that he is expected to rejoin the rotation again next year (after starting for roughly half of the season IIRC). Haigwood is a guy I like a whole lot. Awesome writeup on him Rex, as always appreciate your insights.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Collaro's OBP was .304 entering the day.... There's not many outfielders not named Timo Perez who can make that work on the Major League level. But he also has the most power potential of any prospect in the system (well aside from Chris Young). Collaro has a long way to go and there are definately some issues with his swing, but I think in general this has to be considered a promising season. He's hitting for power and his average hasn't been awful. He's also shortened his swing a bit, but still needs to cut his k's, and improve on his walk totals.
  13. He is on the roster, but from what I'm told he will not play this year.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Jason and I offer this, and trust me it does help.... If you find yourself procrastinating and you know you have a big paper coming up, just tell us and we'll suspend you for however long from the site to keep you from blowing time on here. We'll make sure to allow ya back, but it comes in handy if you can't pull yourself away. Ya, I remember you telling me about that so I went with it and it made a lot of sense. Worked great. We know I love procrastinating, but even than I got straight A's this past semester...WOOT. Thats right, barely got a 3.0 in high school too...those were the days I was a true slacker.

QUOTE(KJean @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) I'm a Accounting and Finance major. I went there knowing I wanted to major in Accounting, but just recently decided to double major. The College of Business is great with exposing you to all different types of majors (well they actually require you to take a bunch of different classes in and out of the college of business) and it's "easy" to pick up a second major or minor the way the programs are set up. I can't speak from personal experience about the university helping with deciding majors. But they give you the flexibility to take a huge variety of classes that sound appealing to you, esp. if you're undecided cause then you'll probably go into the College of Arts and Sciences. My roommate started as a Journalism major but switched to Broadcast Communication this past year and she didn't loose any credits or have any go to waste. Plus it doesn't really matter if you're undecided your frosh or soph year, it actually can be quite good because then you can take a variety of different classes and such. Wooo sorry that was long, hope it helped. Thats exactly what I'm majoring in. Got one accounting class left and a whole lot of finance classes left.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) CS1, I'm looking at Marquette and University of Wisconsin right now. I've visited Marquette, loved the campus. It reminded me of Chicago -- except, a little bit shrunk down -- and I love Chicago. I'm also looking at UofW, because I've had a teacher who said she loved the campus and the whole aspect of it, and she's extremely down to earth, and fairly young, too. I want to be close to Illinois -- close enough for me to be able to drive home if I feel like it, yet far enough to where my parents will have to call if they're visiting. If your talking about UDub...ie University of Washington its an awesome school. I was very very close to going there or Michigan State (both have great business programs). In the end I stayed local and have been quite happy with it. Fullerton's been a great program, especially for business and teaching. But I think the key is coming up with a few things your interested in doing and than finding schools that are good in those areas (sometimes multiple) that way if for osme reason your first choice isn't what you want it to be you can always go to a 2nd. For me I always knew I wanted to do business so all I looked for was a good business program and than narrowed it down from there (Based on the campus atmosphere and alll that good stuff).
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) At 10 am...?!?! Drunks. Its past noon somewhere in the world
  18. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Fastball, curveball and change from what I can tell. I don't see him enough these days to know if he has added a cut fastball. Ya, he throws a cutter. He considers it a big reason for his improvement this season.
  19. Recorded both (was working in LA) got home and watched the Bears game while taking care of some stuff and than watched the Sox game and fell asleep in the 3rd inning woke up at about 3 AM and the tv was just a nice black screen.
  20. Raul Ibanez would be a nice fit. Lefty bat whose put up good numbers for the Mariners this year. Don't know if this is the last year on his contract or not, but I do recall he had a decent sized contract and prior to this year they were planning on moving him if he could. I was at Mariners spring training for a day and people were talking about what a great guy Ibanez is (charities and community involvement). It was funny cause IIRC he was awful for a few years for them (after they gave him a good size deal) but the fans didn't hate him, which leads me to believe he's a quality clubhouse guy. Would he pass through waivers, that I don't know. I know someone else has suggested Ibanez as well (Fisk72??)
  21. Nothing other than Griffey...everything has been quiet.
  22. And if he wins the world series...he's a lying prick that doesn't deserve the HOF, but would get my applause for helping the Sox cause I do think he makes them a better team. Plus as much as I hate the fact that he was juicing, I also must admit he's known as a very classy guy whose well liked in the clubhouse.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) I'll have my softball stuff in the trunk most likely. We'll at least play catch. Also I can grab my frisbee and we can see if there is any interest in playing some Ultimate? Or we can just drink beer and eat! All of the above
  24. Heck ya Mike, cause If you guys say softball and Sox games than I'll be on the 1st flight out to Chicago Regardless, bring your mits for the tailgate and maybe we can bring some whiffle ball stuff or something as well???
  25. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) They ain't going as far down as Drake. Ball State and a Northern Iowa team whose QB is a poker buddy of mine. Same difference
