Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) How is it known that a player is placed on waivers? Is there a formal letter sent to team offices around the league? is it a wire that the public can access? Its something that is released by MLB and then all the teams get it. The waiver claim process goes through all teams and they can pass or put on a claim (in order by league and record). So every team in the NL gets a chance and than every team in the AL gets a chance and than finally the Sox.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) Im still kinda confused. So Boston can claim him and then if a trade doesn't get worked out...they can say forget it and then nobody gets him??? or is it if a trade doesn't get worked out either way Boston gets griffey and has to take on his whole contract? Ya, if Boston claims him, than Griffey would either be a Red Sox or Red. The Reds could simply say, fine, take his contract (the Red Sox would than pay the 20,000 waiver fee to the Reds) and Griffey goes his way. If the Reds/BoSox don't want to go that far, than the Reds and Red Sox could work out a trade for the slugger. If they can't work out a trade and Cincy doesn't want the Red Sox to simply take his contract off their hands (with a full waiver claim) than Griffey is stuck in Cincy for the rest of the season. However, if no team puts a waiver claim on Griffey (which I expect to happen) than the Reds are free to negotiate a trade with any team in baseball.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) Well if they are still going to try and get rid of Dunn, and Casey is rumored to be on the way out because of lack of production and hefty contract, then Young and Rogo make sense. Sure, they'd want pitching. It makes sense to me, but at the same time, if the Sox weren't willing to give up a guy like Bmac (and to some teams, Chris Young may be of interest more to some teams) than it would make sense to me. Young is a guy with stellar upside (and I do mean stellar) and when it comes to those type of guys, the Reds will make room. Especially since Dunn, Casey, and Griffey should all be gone by the start of next season (well if their GM and owners were any smart they'd all be moved, plus Milton).

Buehrle facing possible suspension, fine
This would be total crap if he gets suspended. I think we all know he hit the batter intentionally, but at the same time no warnings had been issued. It just would go too far to suspend him. That said, it seems like every time a pitcher is ejected they end up getting about a 5 game suspension, so It will probably happen. I wonder if the Sox will call up someone to pitch during that suspension or if they'll just stick with the current rotation.

8/2 Games
I noticed Nachreiner had a good outing. 4 K's in 2 innings for Great Falls. He's always had a great arm, I'm starting to wonder if he's on the verge of figuring things out (still has a very high ERA). GF gave up all unearned runs in the loss, rough way to go down.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) With the emergence of Chris Young, the great season Valido has had, along with adding Owens and Rogo doing it at AA, How could we move down? Nobody but Jenks has moved up to Chicago full-time... Hey Randar, I've been meaning to ask you, but if you got time, we'd love for you to be a part of the panel. If so basically we'll send you an email or PM with the questions and you'll just fill out your answers and send them back to us.

How'd you find this place?
Well one day the name Soxtalk.com sounded like a good idea...the rest is history and I've been kicking myself in the ass ever since. I try blowing up the server thinking you all would get the hint, but no, instead more people just show up Just wait, one day you'll see a banner with a bunch of ivy in it In all serious, I'll throw a little history in here. I was visiting WSI one day and saw a post by this weird guy named RIO (from the ESPN boards as well) and it said he was starting a website. I almost never went on the internet back than but found it interesting and shot him an email. Ended up starting SoxNet.net and I helped him out with it. We had a message board there but eventually came up with the idea of starting a seperate board and came up with the name Soxtalk.com We'd kind of split market them, posting articles here and on SoxNet and than eventually getting FutureSox.com involved. SoxNet closed a little more than 2 years ago but Soxtalk has continued to grow and grow and the site never ceases to amaze me (and thats a good thing...most of the time). Its been a cool ride and it takes up way too much of not only my time, but everyone's time. We could of cured some major disease with all the time everyone here has put into Soxtalk.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) I agree with you, but I can see King George saying "Get Griffey!" They just failed to pick up Bernie's $15M option for next season. I just thought about that, but I Think they want to get a legit CF and I'm sure most teams going after Griffey realize the best thing to do with him is to ocassionally play him in the OF, but also let him DH a good amount. He's actually a really good option cause he can play a good OF, but you can also Dh him a decent amount. He's also from everything I've ever heard, a great guy. I think it would be a tremendous acquisition, especially since it would move Everett to the bench where he could provide a lot of depth.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Not with waivers. If Cincy lets him go, he is gone. Honestly I don't think either team has the money for him, especially the Yankees. Even with all of the pitching problems they had, they weren't even RUMORED to be involved in anything. I agree, no one will take him straight up, imo. Of course the Yanks could really use a CF, but I still can't see them doing it and no way does Boston do it. I think a lot of teams learned from the time the Pads put a block on Randy Myers (who was going to go to the Braves) and then got stuck with his fat contract for a few years. The Pads did go to the series that year...that was just an awesome team to watch.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) Good. We didn't want you to root for the NY YAnkees of the NHL anyway. Problem is I'm never gonna be able to see these games. I'll just have to mooch off my best bud whose a huge red wing fan and buys the center ice package or whatever it is.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Kovalev could be the best hockey player on the planet if he would try hard night in and night out. The guy has awesome skills and ability but just seems to be the typical Russian with being lazy more so than not.... OH man, I get goosebumps at the thought. I don't know whats happening to me, but I'm following this thread religiously and I've never been into hockey (until just before the strike). I got to say, I'm getting pumped about the Hawks...you all have done it.

Sox agreed to trade for Griffey Jr.
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) Sean is in the minor leagues. More insurance I guess. I'd be thrilled with this move. Burroughs will never develop into the player the Pads thought he was, but he's still capable of turning into a good role player and could still turn into an average 3rd baseman. Not a bad insurance plan, especially since Borch will be leaving the org at the end of the year. Very interesting on the Griffey front. Giving up Young would of sucked, but I think I'd of made that deal, especially since they were getting a decent portion of the contract paid. Who knows, it could still happen.

8/2 Games
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Perhaps B-Mac is using his change a lot more, and still trying to get used to throwing it for strikes, instead of just relying on his fastball - curve combo. Nevertheless, another good outing. Matt Nachreiner had 4 K's in 2IP for Great Falls. Needs to make a move soon. Richard is looking good thus far though, a chance to pitch in Kanny at the start of next season perhaps? Just wait till my writeup, I got some good details on his rebound.

Sox have hit a minor home slump since that Oakland series prior the the break. Before that it was pretty much even.
