  1. Well I must of voted about 600 times for Pods. Hopefully all of our efforts help get him in. But now onto the Sox game where Contreras is gonna get things back in gear.
  2. We'll know more about next year when we see what the Sox roster looks like after the trade deadline.
  3. QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) I have Netscape and it does the same thing. If you use the alt code you won't even have to recheck Pods name, all you have to do is put in the verification number.

    Work dress code...

My dress code is business casual (no ties necessary). However you also have to abide by the other firms dress code (when your doing an audit) so if your auditing a bank your stuck wearing suits quite often.
  5. 100 more in, time to go to the Angel game. Keep doing it fellas, hopefully Pods will get in.
  6. Just put out about 150 more votes Gonna try and get in about 100 more, than its time to go see Santana choke against the Angels

  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) Did Javier Vazquez ever sign a new deal with the Diamondbacks? No, he never had to. He was in the 2nd year of the extension the Yankees gave him. Of course because he was dealt at the end of the year he has the right to demand a trade, per the collective bargaining agreement (IIRC). Of course he seems to be happy in Arizona.
  9. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) The umping has been horrendous from what I've seen this inning. I hate to see it happen except to maybe the Cubs and then maybe I'm just indifferent. It was the same all game. The Twins were arguing calls most of the night, especially their 3rd base coach. We'll see if it works in the matinee game today. I'm pumped to see Johan pitch cause yesterdays game was awfully slow. It was probably the worse 2-1 game I've ever seen (in terms of the quality of pitching). It was still a good game though, especially since the Twins lost.
  10. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 07:50 AM) Can anyone from Futuresox if he has a 100 mph fastball? I have an oddly good feeling about this guy. Jenks may be the best relief prospect in all of baseball and he definately has some of the best pure stuff in the entire minors. The kids stuff is the real deal, we'll have to see how his maturity and command are at the major league level.
  11. Keep voting...this grassroots campaign needs to continue until the voting is over with. Just added about 90 votes.
  12. QUOTE(Winning Ugly @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) Anyone hear our two aces together on the Dan Patrick show today? I don't care too much for Patrick, but it's all I get at work. Anyways, all the questions he asked the two (the Kenny Rogers all-star deal, who should start the all-star game, all-star snubs) were answered in a "politically correct" boring way. They had Mark Tex on before them from the Rangers and he was helluva lot more entertaining. Where's the excitement, fellas? All signs point to the playoffs and you act like it's no big deal what's happening on the South Side of Chicago... 10 bucks says they got a memo from the Sox after that week of comments coming out from Everett, Ozzie, and Buehrle just before the Cubs series.
  13. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) Who among us, in his position, wouldn't try something new after so many years of failure. Last year, Frank Robinson put a pitcher in the #8 spot in the lineup during one of many Expos slump. Is he therefore a bad manager? And, in closing, how many managers have been traded for a .300 hitter? Larussa has used that same theory in regards to a pitcher in the 8th spot.
  14. Guys, vote the real way. This scripts aren't there just to try and stop people from cheating, they will have scripts set up to check and throw out certain votes. Its definately possible and why risk it.
  15. Ya he retired and who knows when he decided to give it another shot with the knuckler. Good call on the interview Jim. If its a go, and since your interested you can get first dibs at doing it.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) I think we should definitely do an interview with The Haegermeister. In fact I will volunteer to do it, who can put me in touch with the Barons people? It's a cool human interest story, actually I think he may have been away from baseball for a year, or maybe injured. He resurfaced and he's throwing the knuckler, and quite successfully. He was such a longshot to make it and now he's definitely on the map. Let's learn more about this guy, I cannot be the guy who coined The Haegermeister, his teammates must've hung that on him long ago. Hey Jim Not sure, but the Wilder interview should be happening in the next day or two. He's been busy the two times I called him and than I got stuck with training and have pretty much had zero time for FS. Cerb is going to be doing it now. I'll get in contact with the Barons people tonight after I get home from the Angel game.
  17. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Uh, is there something wrong if I like a name? Not at all, its how I stumbled upon Fabio Castro a few years back. I saw the name, had no idea who he was and started laughing, than looked at the numbers and was like holy hell this guy is kicking butt.
  18. Well I finally got off my ass and voted for like 10 minutes. Must of done at least 50.
  19. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) Jenks has 2 pitches better than anything Baj throws and has a much higher potential to help both now and in the future. Are the Sox interested in winning or just "promote this guy because he's next in line and is a great guy"???? People need to take a step back and look at the big picture for 2 seconds. Jenks has the potential to be a K-Rod type impact player now. Baj has the chance to be a middle releiver now. I like Baj, but the love for him around here because he is a great guy goes beyond the realm of reason. People need to separate being a great guy from being "the right move for the major league club"... I like Baj as much as the next person and he's definately a great guy who deserves to be in the majors right now. However, Bobby Jenks may just be the best relief prospect in the minors (not just with the Sox). He has two plus plus pitches and is developing a solid power sinker. There are a lot of valid reasons for Jenks to get the call over Baj. I know some people may not like them and to me Baj would be on about 10 teams right now (if not more), but he's in a tough situation in Chicago, but hopefully he'll break through here, however if he doesn't I too will root for him to get traded to another org where he may get his shot. Still, lets not look at this as Baj not being good or thought of highly by the Sox, rather that Jenks is just that stinking good. He may be coming from AA and may have some other issues on the side, but he's also got a ridiculous arm and thats something you can't look past.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) Nice to see the Sox getting some publicity for these seats. The interesting thing was how small the Dodgers started out with these, and how big they are now. I hope we are that successful with them, as these are huge dollar items. Just to show some perspective, I've heard the Dodgers ones are about 300 bucks and some of them go as high as 350 to 400. Its the same sort of deal, but the Sox are just a better value. Next year if they stay the same price range, I'm so doing it.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Do you think they're rushing him a little to much, wasn't he in A ball just this year or do you think he's ready?? I don't see the problem. My thoughts are what type of situation is he being brought into. If your coming from A ball into a pennant race, than its a bad thing. If your promoting him to the majors and telling him you expect up and downs and that you want him to learn and develop himself, than not a problem in my book. He's lit things up in his first full professional season and he's coming into a little pressure situation. Its like the opposite of Brandon McCarthy who has to come up and pitch in the thick of things and therefor any losses are magnified and a team is less capable/likely to put up with a few rough patches during the development. Lucky for the Sox and Brandon, there has been an injury and Brandon will be able to get his feet continually wet here and get one more start in. He also has a lot less pressure since the club is winning and the rest of the rotation is pretty much kicking butt (sans Contreras previous few starts). This stint up for Brandon will be even more helpful when he's back up later in the year of if he sticks in the pen. And I'd be the first to say Brandon still has a lot to work on, but I'm also going to be the one that continues to say how good Brandon will be and that the Sox will be rewarded this year in some way shape or form.
  22. Verlander can throw as hard as anyone else in the majors, save perhaps his mate Kyle Farnsworth. He's gonna be good and the Tigers will be too next year.
  23. Going to look a little more at his stats: Schmidt has made 15 starts on the year and is 6-4 with a 5.11 ERA while sporting a WHIP of 1.59. However, he's still striking out guys at a 8.65 clip per nine innings which tells you aside from the velocity his stuff is there. The big problem is right now he's walking guys at a higher clip. In a full season he'd probably walk 35 more guys this year than he did last year. Now lets look at his past two seasons: 35-12 overall 2003 2.34 ERA 2004 3.20 ERA with 251 strikeouts in 225 innings (just 165 hits) This guy is a total beast of a pitcher. The only question is whether he's 100%. If the Sox get a good medical report, you pick him up and see what a change of scenery can do. Plus he could be a little rusty. However, I tend to think Schmidt is pitching hurt still.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) I heard on the Score that Contreras would actually be included in a deal to get Schmidt (don't ask me why the Giants would want Contreras, unless the Sox ate his salary) I don't really see that happening. Actually this would make some sense. He'd go into a good pitchers park and the Sox wouldn't be tying up as much payroll. Basically the Giants would pick up two promising prospects and a promising starter so they could still get some immediate help. Contreras is nowhere near as bad as some of you say he is. But I'd also assume the Sox may have to send a little cash his way. Plus if Jose is part of the deal it means there is no way in hell that Bmac is getting dealt.
  25. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) I'm not sure how that is that much different from the Crede, Anderson, good prospect trade I proposed. They have Morgan Ensberg playing 3rd base, so they have absolutely no use for Joe Crede. Plus Kenny is not trading away Crede unless he's getting a better 3rd baseman in return. The big reason though, like I said originally stems from Morgan Ensberg, whose young and is or should be an All Star (haven't even looked at the announced teams yet, but I'm assuming he made it).
