QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) I think we should definitely do an interview with The Haegermeister. In fact I will volunteer to do it, who can put me in touch with the Barons people? It's a cool human interest story, actually I think he may have been away from baseball for a year, or maybe injured. He resurfaced and he's throwing the knuckler, and quite successfully. He was such a longshot to make it and now he's definitely on the map. Let's learn more about this guy, I cannot be the guy who coined The Haegermeister, his teammates must've hung that on him long ago. Hey Jim Not sure, but the Wilder interview should be happening in the next day or two. He's been busy the two times I called him and than I got stuck with training and have pretty much had zero time for FS. Cerb is going to be doing it now. I'll get in contact with the Barons people tonight after I get home from the Angel game.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Uh, is there something wrong if I like a name? Not at all, its how I stumbled upon Fabio Castro a few years back. I saw the name, had no idea who he was and started laughing, than looked at the numbers and was like holy hell this guy is kicking butt.

Jenks heading to Chicago..
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) Jenks has 2 pitches better than anything Baj throws and has a much higher potential to help both now and in the future. Are the Sox interested in winning or just "promote this guy because he's next in line and is a great guy"???? People need to take a step back and look at the big picture for 2 seconds. Jenks has the potential to be a K-Rod type impact player now. Baj has the chance to be a middle releiver now. I like Baj, but the love for him around here because he is a great guy goes beyond the realm of reason. People need to separate being a great guy from being "the right move for the major league club"... I like Baj as much as the next person and he's definately a great guy who deserves to be in the majors right now. However, Bobby Jenks may just be the best relief prospect in the minors (not just with the Sox). He has two plus plus pitches and is developing a solid power sinker. There are a lot of valid reasons for Jenks to get the call over Baj. I know some people may not like them and to me Baj would be on about 10 teams right now (if not more), but he's in a tough situation in Chicago, but hopefully he'll break through here, however if he doesn't I too will root for him to get traded to another org where he may get his shot. Still, lets not look at this as Baj not being good or thought of highly by the Sox, rather that Jenks is just that stinking good. He may be coming from AA and may have some other issues on the side, but he's also got a ridiculous arm and thats something you can't look past.

Pimping the Scout Seats
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) Nice to see the Sox getting some publicity for these seats. The interesting thing was how small the Dodgers started out with these, and how big they are now. I hope we are that successful with them, as these are huge dollar items. Just to show some perspective, I've heard the Dodgers ones are about 300 bucks and some of them go as high as 350 to 400. Its the same sort of deal, but the Sox are just a better value. Next year if they stay the same price range, I'm so doing it.

Justin Verlander pitching today.
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Do you think they're rushing him a little to much, wasn't he in A ball just this year or do you think he's ready?? I don't see the problem. My thoughts are what type of situation is he being brought into. If your coming from A ball into a pennant race, than its a bad thing. If your promoting him to the majors and telling him you expect up and downs and that you want him to learn and develop himself, than not a problem in my book. He's lit things up in his first full professional season and he's coming into a little pressure situation. Its like the opposite of Brandon McCarthy who has to come up and pitch in the thick of things and therefor any losses are magnified and a team is less capable/likely to put up with a few rough patches during the development. Lucky for the Sox and Brandon, there has been an injury and Brandon will be able to get his feet continually wet here and get one more start in. He also has a lot less pressure since the club is winning and the rest of the rotation is pretty much kicking butt (sans Contreras previous few starts). This stint up for Brandon will be even more helpful when he's back up later in the year of if he sticks in the pen. And I'd be the first to say Brandon still has a lot to work on, but I'm also going to be the one that continues to say how good Brandon will be and that the Sox will be rewarded this year in some way shape or form.

Justin Verlander pitching today.
Verlander can throw as hard as anyone else in the majors, save perhaps his mate Kyle Farnsworth. He's gonna be good and the Tigers will be too next year.

Schmidt to Sox?
Going to look a little more at his stats: Schmidt has made 15 starts on the year and is 6-4 with a 5.11 ERA while sporting a WHIP of 1.59. However, he's still striking out guys at a 8.65 clip per nine innings which tells you aside from the velocity his stuff is there. The big problem is right now he's walking guys at a higher clip. In a full season he'd probably walk 35 more guys this year than he did last year. Now lets look at his past two seasons: 35-12 overall 2003 2.34 ERA 2004 3.20 ERA with 251 strikeouts in 225 innings (just 165 hits) This guy is a total beast of a pitcher. The only question is whether he's 100%. If the Sox get a good medical report, you pick him up and see what a change of scenery can do. Plus he could be a little rusty. However, I tend to think Schmidt is pitching hurt still.

Schmidt to Sox?
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) I heard on the Score that Contreras would actually be included in a deal to get Schmidt (don't ask me why the Giants would want Contreras, unless the Sox ate his salary) I don't really see that happening. Actually this would make some sense. He'd go into a good pitchers park and the Sox wouldn't be tying up as much payroll. Basically the Giants would pick up two promising prospects and a promising starter so they could still get some immediate help. Contreras is nowhere near as bad as some of you say he is. But I'd also assume the Sox may have to send a little cash his way. Plus if Jose is part of the deal it means there is no way in hell that Bmac is getting dealt.

Schmidt to Sox?
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) I'm not sure how that is that much different from the Crede, Anderson, good prospect trade I proposed. They have Morgan Ensberg playing 3rd base, so they have absolutely no use for Joe Crede. Plus Kenny is not trading away Crede unless he's getting a better 3rd baseman in return. The big reason though, like I said originally stems from Morgan Ensberg, whose young and is or should be an All Star (haven't even looked at the announced teams yet, but I'm assuming he made it).

TRADE THREAD II ~ July 2 - July 8
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Loiza + Bmac + Tracey is more like it. I'm trying to think of a mid-level position player who might be included. KW DO NOT INCLUDE CHRIS YOUNG!!! I hope they want Sweeney.

I have a Question
We've considered it in the past, but at the same time feel that at certain points of the season (specifically the offseason) it would could a slow down in PHT because during the offseason a lot of the talk is based on ways to improve the club via trade or free agency as well as rumored pick ups. I think as of now were going to try and see how a weekly trade rumor thread at the top works. However, come the trade deadline or maybe just for July we may set up some sort of subforum in here for all the Sox related trade talk (which every rumor getting a seperate thread essentially). That way those intersted in that stuff can see it, and those that aren't won't have to scramble through all of it.

Schmidt to Sox?
I saw this elsewhere and was going to post this over here. It sounds like the guy who started this (Coppock???) is saying he knows something no one else does and has essentially gotten some sort of verification from someone in the organization. The only question is whether he talked to someone totally in the know or if the person knows they are talking trade and may just feel its farther along than it really is. I'll say one thing, there is definately some serious talk going on between the Sox and Giants but the Giants have a high price tag for Schmidt because they have the option of keeping him. To go along with the quote above, I also read somewhere that Mark Gonzalez (the Sox beat writer for the Trib) was talking on a San Fran station earlier this week and said the Sox have told the Giants they can have anyone in the system but Anderson and Bmac. The question is will that be enough for the Giants (Ie...Sweeney, Gio, Tracey, and another guy) or will the Giants hold off and see how badly Kenny wants Schmidt. The other question is if a deal goes down, what happens with Contreras/Duque cause one would be destine for the pen and it really doesn't make a lot of sense to give Duque that type of money from the pen. Personally speaking, I'd say at one point or another the odds of Kenny acquiring a big name player are pretty good. He's agressive and knows he has a special team and this may be his only shot to bring a title to Chicago, so if someone's out there that will make this team that much better, he's going to do all he can to get it done.

Schmidt to Sox?
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) It would be a lot more than that. Ya, cause if thats all it took, I'd do the deal in a heartbeat and than give up Bmac and a few others to get Chavez End dream. Realistically to acquire Oswalt, you'd be talking about a package starting with Anderson, Bmac, one of Gio/Tracey/Etc and a midlevel guy.

Bristol article on Salvador Sanchez

7/3 games
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) I thought Tracey had better 'stuff' than he's showing. I realize the walk total is always gonna be high (almost a half a walk per inning), but only 68K's in 97 IP? That's not very encouraging... Tracey isn't much of a strikeout pitcher. He has an awesome arm though. The big thing with him is guys rarely hit him very hard. He's gets a lot of sinking action on his fastball and not many sinkerballers are strikeout guys.

Loaiza knows a winner when he sees one
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) Talk about quick value depreciation. That'd be a prime example. Just have Kevin Walker sign it, that way mine will be the 2nd best on the jersey

Still got some work to do before framing it. Next tailgate I'll sign it for you too Boz...than it will be ready for the frame

All Encompassing All Star Game Thread
QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Rumors around baseball are that Roy Halladay will start the All-Star game for the American League. Eventhough I am a Sox fan, I believe that Buehrle or Garland should start because they both have better stats then Halladay. Who knows, one of the two Sox pitchers will start the game. But for now everyone in baseball is all over Halladay and have blinders on to Buehrle and Garland. Ozzie said in the news he would prefer that no White Sox pitcher start the All-Star game, beacuase it would mess up the rotation. Garland will make his first All-Star game this year and Buehrle will be in his, I'm guessing, his 5th game. Lets hope Franconna comes to his senses and picks the right pitcher to start the game that will determine if the Sox will have home-field advantage come October. I don't care who starts to be honest. I'd just as well let Halladay start cause he can throw a few more innings and Buehrle or Jon can come in for an inning instead of 2 or 3. In fact, I wouldnt' complain if neither of them pitched in the game and were held out.

What's Monroe Smoking?
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) I know Inge is hitting better than Crede, but he's far from a good defender. His error total is killing my keeper team. Its funny, I was reading something and people consider Inge a very special defensive player. I know I've seen him make some really good plays, but he must just lack with the footwork at 3rd base since he's having to adjust to the position. I've long been an Inge fan.
