  1. Cantu creamed that one. The HBP came back to haunt Crain.
  2. Jorge Cantu just hit a 2 run homer off Jesse Crain to give the Drays a 4-3 lead over the Twins in the top of the 7th.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) If Bush nominates a moderate to slightly conservative, he'll have my respect and admiration. If he goes neanderthal, juts out his jaw, and plays wild west sheriff, I will not be happy. Bottom line, if conservatives and liberals are disappointed, it's about right. My guess is he'll first try and run a very staunch conservative through and will than "compromise" by pushing a more moderate conservative, who will probably be the guy he originally wanted or selected but will use the other guy to at least show some sort of effort of compromising. Thats what I'd do at least.
  4. This sounds cool. I've been wanting to get back into reading, but never really know what book I should pick up. I don't follow what books are out there so if someone did and they sounded interesting I'd definately read some of the stuff.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) I really want to get excited about Gio... but with all the hot-to-trot prospects that have flammed out... im gonna stay cautious. I know that every org must go through the same trials... but still. Typically I tab guys as players to watch in the lower levels, but I try not to get excited until they produce in AA. Once they prove they can play in AA, than I think its just a matter of time until they get their chance in the majors. AA is the level that shows you whose for real (in terms of prospects) and who isn't and than those real prospects will get their shot at the majors and see if they can cut it at that level.

Honda Pilot I freaking love it too.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Arizona may figure in a 3-way wth Sox and Giants. Unless the Sox are looking at a veteran like Counsel. I can't see the Giants and Dbacks getting together on a deal. Stranger things have happened, and I know in the end if the Giants get what they want they should do the deal, but its never good to strengthen a division rival. I just don't see Viz or any of the mediocre relievers on the Sox being part of a 3 way deal for a player of Schmidt's magnitude. If they were, all the better, but I can't see why the heck the Giants would do that, they'd much rather deal directly with the Sox and keep a potential key piece from going to Arizona. On a sidenote, where is all this talk about the Sox scouting someone from Arizona? I just saw something mentioning Arizona had scouts at the game and that they were looking for relief help. Is there anything that said the SOx were scouting guys on the Dbacks or if the scouts were even there looking at Sox relievers? I'm telling you, Dbacks are looking at Farny. Now I think they'd be interested in Shingo or Viz, but I don't see a 3 way deal starting up, nor do I see the Sox just dealing them for a mid-level to potentially lower prospect. UNLESS, they simply want to free up money for another deal that had just went down (ie Sox acquire Schmidt and need to free up some payroll so they move Shingo or Viz...not that it wuold really be a big time savings). Just my 2 cents yas and now that I think about it...we'll just have to agree to disagree on this
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) I agree that KW won't deal from the pen just to make room for the kids. But, he may deal from the pen to, for example, acquire Schmidt, knowing he has Baj and Jenks down there waiting in the wings. Thats possible, but I highly doubt they move a guy like Marte. Could they move Viz or Shingo in a bigger picture deal for a guy like Schmidt, sure, but I don't know why in god sakes the Giants would do that. If I'm the Giants, I'm asking for Bmac, Marte or another reliever, and one of Sweeney/Anderson/Young. If I'm Kenny I'd counter and do what I could, but thats if he's interested. Speaking of relievers though, I still can't see it happening and if he were to ever deal one of Hermy/Politte/Marte than he'd be getting someone else in return as well. However, dealing one of them to open up a spot for Brad Lidge is another story. You are right about having those guys waiting in the wings to replace a Viz or Shingo, but there are no options along those lines at replacing Hermy/Politte/Marte (when Marte is healthy). And to add to this, they are mentioning Arizona. Why are the Sox going to deal with Arizona? Are they going to give us Chad Tracy or someone like that (he could play 3rd along with Crede) cause unless they are going to do something along those lines, I just don't see anything that makes sense. I guarantee you they are looking at one of the Tigers relievers (Farnsworth may just be the guy).
  9. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) Quickman is right guys. He's not that great, even to be in the majors. And thats bulls*** to say AAA isn't a pitchers park, because I saw some very s***ty numbers at AA for Bajenaru. People on this board could give a less f*** about the youth of our organization and want to win now. World Series...just in their lifetime, some people might not be alive to see the Sox in the fall classic in the next 10 years or so. Win. Or die trying. Edit: I was reading the paper wrong. The guy I am mentioning should be Bullard. If it weren't for some of the youth of this organization (Buehrle, Garland, etc) the Sox wouldn't of ever been in this position. Nothing wrong with youth and there is absolutely no reason to knock on Baj like some have on here. The guy has kicked absolute ass in the minors ever since recovering from surgery. There is no board bias in his numbers, they are real. I'm not saying he'll be great, but he'll be a quality reliever in the majors. I'm also not calling for him to be up, but Beastly, lets not talk about how bad the guy is after 10 innings in the majors last year. Greg Maddux wasn't stellar his 1st 10 innings, most guys aren't. And I do give a crap about the future of the organization. Top prospects can either come up and help a club on the field or they can be dealt for other assets that can help a team potentially go the distance.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) After reading how the D-Backs need bullpen help and how their scouts were at the games...it would be a fair assumption that Shingo or Jizzcan or Marte would be traded and Baj would be brought up. Ummm....no. Why in god sakes would the Sox deal a solid reliever (Viz pitched pretty darn admirably tonight and is showing some velocity) in order to call up an unknown like Jenks. Plus what are the Sox getting in return. Lets make one thing clear, Kenny isn't dealing from his pen in order to make room for Baj or Jenks this year. The only reason they'll get a shot is if they replace someone due to injury or in Hermy's case bereavment and come up and kick ass during that time. Otherwise they'll be waiting till September or playing in the majors for some other team before than cause those are the only reasons they'll be up here, imo.
  11. I don't either, but I thought the same thing earlier this year when they called up Kevin Walker of all people.
  12. Just throwing this out there, but I know there has been some talk about Hermy going on the bereavement list to go and visit his family member thats ill. If thats the case do you guys think the Sox will call up Bajenaru and give him a chance or will they go with Walker again or a player like Adkins (whom Ozzie is rather familiar with). You even have the outside possibility of Bobby Jenks.
  13. Not to toot my own horn and maybe I was wrong on the Scho thing, but ya....I also had quite a few more nice posts about Hermy.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) Disregard that. It's a little further out. SHould be a metra line close. Map it Actually, I think the closest line is my metra line, the Aurora line, maybe hinsdale stop? Thanks Chisoxy Just mapquested it and its like 19 miles, which isn't bad. Of course I don't know which part of Chicago thats from, but anyone know if there are some good prices on housing out there?

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 05:46 AM) Depending on your lifestyle, you may or may not need one. Everyone I know that lives in the city has a car. And again.. just because you live in the city doesn't mean you work there. Several of our IT guys live down there. FWIU there is not a big IT market in Downtown Chicago. On a random sidenote, where is Oakbrook? The company I'm interning for has an office out there as well as in Chicago and I thought it could be nice to try and get a gig out there for a couple weeks. But thats only if Oakbrook is close enough to Chicago.

  17. Wish Freddie nothing but the best in his recovery. He's a class act.
  18. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) who is Scott Olson? He started for the Marlins and looked pretty good throwing something like 5/1/3 innings while picking up his first major league victory. I have no idea if he's much of a prospect or not.
  19. Ya, that makes no sense to me.
  20. The I is definately there. Its basically right next to the part of the H so I think your seeing the H blend in with the right veritcal line of the H.
  21. Texas beat Florida tonight in the 1st game of the finals. Their closer got them out of a tough jam. He got the 1st two outs and looked like he was totally giong to get out of it, than gave up a 2 run single and preceded to walk the bases loaded before striking the last batter out in the 8th. Than it was a routine ninth. Next game is on Sunday.
  22. Thats freaking sick and is now my wallpaper.
  23. Hey Yahtz. Thanks for sharing your site with the rest of us. I like the format for the most part. Its a clean look, the only thing I'd like to see format wise is a little more color or pictures, specifically where the main story is. Haven't read enough of the content yet so I can't comment on that, but I'm looking forward to seeing the development of the site and I think the basis is definately there. I should add based on experience from SoxNet, that I think some of the key things for a Sox website is to make sure you can provide a unique type of content. Game Recaps are nice, especially if you can do them every day. It adds a story everyday and shows a committment, but I also think one of the big keys is to be able to roll out a couple stories a week that offer an outside perspective in a sense. If you see a player struggling, maybe have a story about that player and what he's doing wrong and the adjustments he needs to make. Or have a statistcal type breakdown, kind of like Cheat and some others do (he absolutely rules at that stuff). You could also break down speculative news and talk about the reasons you feel the move was made or analyze something the Sox did. I think all of those things give the site an opportunity to say something different and unique and will help it build a following. I did like the standings section on the minor league section. Very nice looking. In fact the backend details of the site are quite nice. Good luck yahtz and like I said if you ever have any questions in terms of running the site and further develop it, don't hesitate to ask me. Note: I want everyone to know Yahtzee asked me before posting this whether it would be ok to post about his new website.
  24. Stone's a really good analyst, but I don't think he's the type of person that has enough contacts with the organization to break news or know enough to say whether they are going to make a trade or not. I think he's purely speculating on a few need positions he may see mixed with the fact that Kenny is always a player before the trade deadline.
  25. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) Well the way I am seeing it I wouldn't mind giving up BMac and Anderson for Schimdt for the simple fact that Schimdt is a proven Ace and Bmac is not yet proven anything and Anderson where does he fit in here now that the Sox have an over abundance of outfielders already?? Taking on the contract doesn't seem like the Sox would be all that worried about it if they are willing to trade for him does it?? Reinsdorf already said for a difference maker he would spend the cash right? Plus it doesn't appear as though KW or Ozzie are all that in love with El Duque to not deal him or move him to the pen if need be. I wouldn't worry so much about the pen most of the guys have proven solid and Shingo looks to be coming around. Right now I would say the weak link is Vizcaino and if El Duque goes to the pen well he takes his place anyway...IMO. BMac and Anderson for Schmidt = HELL YA
