Jim Thanks for that explanation and thanks for posting this stuff. I think this all makes sense. I also could see the Score downplaying this cause I'm sure they talked with Kenny or someone else in the organization who downplayed it since the Sox are trying their darnest to stay quiet. As far as the other two stories go, we'll have to wait and see I guess. Sounds like they are rumors (like you just said) and who knows what names would be mentioned. I will say this, Lee going to Florida would make a hell of a lot of sense considering they could use a power hitter (of course I'd rather see Konerko go) and Anderson for Posednik also makes quite a bit of sense from the Brewers standpoint. That gives the Sox a complete outfield with Posednik probably playing in LF, Dye in RF, and Rowand in CF. The Sox rotation looks a whole lot better then the one at the start of last season and it leaves the Sox with one weakness offensively....catching, while giving the Sox an oustanding top of the order. The other weakness would be the pen. Financially the Sox would be adding Wrights salary (5 million), Dye's (4 mill), Posednik's (400 K last year), and Castillo's (5 mill...estimate, don't know what it is for this upcoming year). Minus Lee's 8 million and the Sox are adding 6-8 million depending on the raises the players are due. Meaning they have plenty of room to address the bullpen. Thats a total of 91 stolen bases being added to the Sox between Castillo and Posednik. Thats not accounting for the ones lost with Harris moving to the bench and of course Lee's steals. The one thing the Sox lose is a really good 3 hole hitter, but at the same time with Posednik and Castillo the top of the order is settled and Rowand can move down in the lineup to a run producing slot while Dye would also be their was well, meaning catcher and Crede are the two major weaknesses. Plus you have Everett and Gload on the bench as well as Willie. Which I would say is a strong bench. I'd really be excited if the Sox could work a way to get Mota and Castillo for Lee and then Posednik for Anderson would be fine (would rather give up less, but at teh same time, he does anything near what he did two years ago, mixed with his 70 steals of this season) and its more then worth it.

Only thing I'm gonna comment on this is don't annoit Anderson a stun yet. WhiteSox.com may label him a stud and really talk him up but I don't buy into that. Anderson has the tools, but he still has a lot of areas to improve upon and is not as close to the majors as some writers would lead you to believe, imo.

Don't know if you guys knew this or not but

From what I understand, NOTHING. Kenny and Kelly were getting along at ST, unless something happened after I was there. However, he was unable to pitch on back to back days, in fact he couldn't really pitch more then two times a week and their is no reason to have that in your pen. He wasn't healthy...trust me when I say that and Steff will verify it cause she heard the same thing. -
Remember it was posted 8 minutes ago on WhiteSox.com but I guess this guy posted it first on CBS sportsline and I'm guessing it happened more then 8 minutes before.

Just look at all the posts in the thread when the Sox signed Walker. I still think this is going to be an exciting off-season. Were all anxious

Well when the White Sox acquired Bartolo Colon they also quickly jumped in and signed Tom Gordon and another pitcher, I think it was the bouncer Rick White, but not positive on that. It was all on the same day cause I remember writing stories on FS in regards to them. On a sidenote, the more I think about it, the more this isn't happening. On paper it betters the team, even if they are giving up a little much for Lee. Anyway, I would love to see that Wright and Dye part come true cause I think both would be great additions. Plus with them two on board, the Sox now have all the flexibility they need to work out another deal invovling either Garland or Konerko/Lee. Just add Dustin Hermanson to this cause I think he'd be a nice pickup out of the pen.

I'd sya the Cards would be a good fit for him. I also figure Anaheim will have some interest. I wish him the best, he's a quality guy, but he isn't going to be on the Sox again. -
Well read the thread. I can only hope it would be true. All the stuff seems reasonable. Lee and Anderson seems steep for Posednik and Castillo, but at the same time that gives the Sox a lethal 1-2 punch in the lineup and an outfield of Dye/Posednik/Rowand would be A-OK with me. The Wright deal sounded fantastic too. The thing is, all of that stuff seems reasonable. Man I hope we all just missed it. Hell, first off I am hoping for the Wright deal, but still this would be all happening really quickly.

Please tell me this is true. Haven't read any of the thread yet for confirmation, but OH MY this would be awesome.

Outstanding news. Tyrone was a failure at ND, an absolute failure. The recruiting crops continued to get worse and his schemes weren't working. The team was getting blown out and it just wasn't cutting it. I'm not talking about Tyrone the person, no doubt he's a great guy, but he's going to go back to the west coast, pick up a job their and do a good job. Him and Notre Dame didn't gel and he struggled recruiting in the midwest. I'm on the Urban Meyer or Butch Davis bandwagon. Both have outstanding offensive track records and while Urban is an up and comer with ND ties, Butch is a proven college coach who failed in the NFL and has experience recruiting at a big school. Both would be major upgrades, imo.

Griffin pitched out of the pen in AA at the end of the season and excelled, and he's definately going to get picked up, probably before the Sox get a shot.
-
What else could the Sox of gotten. They could of picked up a AAA or AA prospect. I don't remember if the Yanks still have Scott Proctor or someone of that mold. Solid arm, lefty, could turn into something and the Sox would have oh so much more cash on their side. Fact is, the move was quite risky from a monetary standpoint, imo.
-
Thats what I figured. I thought he was a free agent and the Sox just have the option to offer him arbitration, sign him before Dec. 7th, or decline arb and lose the chance to negotiate with him until May. You'd think Sho would accept arb, unless of course he got a multi year offer elsewhere where he would be guaranteed starting. This could create a semi timetable for Kenny if he does consider Scho a viable 5th starter if Garland is dealt in a package to bring in a front line pitcher.
-
Ok, here's what this tells you: A, Sox never made that offer because Arizona isn't getting a better offer from anywhere else thus far and the crap the Yanks have in their system ain't going to make it worth while. B, RJ has given a list of teams and the Sox aren't on it. Even then, I think the Sox and Dbacks would still work and hope they could convince RJ. So I don't think this is the case. C, Dbacks want Yanks involved cause it may bring the RedSox or someone else in that previously wasn't involved and could cause someone else to offer more. D, the Dbacks are still in hold mode and are talking with RJ and something still has to get figured out. My guess is its either A or D with a mix of C in either case. I think Gammons and everyone else reporting a deal almost done is completely wrong, unless of course A happens to be true and the Sox never made that offer, in which case the Dbacks could very well be doing something. But if that offer is on the table then Arizona would have to consider it and should take it. They aren't quite ready yet though, imo, as they are waiting to see what Sexson does still.
-
One thing perplexes me about this so called offer. Had the Sox actually made this offer, their is no doubt in my mind Arizona would accept it or at least begin the process and let the Sox people talk with RJ. I have to think the Sox and Dbacks have made phone calls but I highly doubt a formal offer has been made thus far, despite what the media is reporting.

Colt Griffin put up good numbers after moving to the pen. Sox could use a power reliever and he could just fit the bill. Plus teams can sometimes afford to carry that back end bullpen guy and he has enough experience in AA to make the jump to the majors do-able. Plus his stuff was DYNOMITE. Sisco seems solid to and as much as I like Haggerty I can't see picking up a guy off Tommy John, but on the bright side you can stick him on the DL for a while and I'm guessing your allotted at least some time to let him rehab meaning you could keep his rights for a while at the very least. Hell more I think of it, Haggerty may be a really good way to go.

As far as Antoin Gray goes, he's legit. I wouldn't compare him to Jeff Kent cause he has nowhere the power, but i'd say he rates similarly to Ray Durham, but with less speed. Think offensive second baseman who is average to a little below average defensively. Gray would of got a lot more fame had he not been overshadowed by Richie Weeks at Southern.

Heres a guy I'm going to go out on a limb and say he turns into a stud....Tyler Lumsden. Seems like things have gotten quiet on him, but between him and Liotta the Sox have two really good under the radar arms that I think have "ACE" potential. We already know I like Bmac and Tracey a lot. I'm liking the potential of the organization and I think the farm system keeps taking steps forwards, not backwards, like some seem to imply.
-
Isn't it obvious, they want to conform to the sarcasm color at Soxtalk. That way when were in the seats and we go Lets Win the Series, we don't have to go "Green: Lets win the Series; End Green"
-
I'm assuming this isn't going to be done this season, or will it be two seasons from now??? I hope they go with the green color they use in Anaheim. I do think it would look funny to have a certain section green for one season, but monetarily it makes sense to do it. It be badass if they are doing the whole thing this year though.

Contreras is the 4th starter at this point in time. The Sox may say Contreras is better then Garland but he's done nothing during his tenure to prove me that. He was a stupid acquisition. I don't doubt his talent or potential, but you don't pay 6 million a year for another two years soley because of that. I'd of much rather seen that money spent this offseason on a guy that is proven and could step in and 6 million would easily do that. Like I said at the start of the offseason the wild cards to this season will be Garland and Contreras. They live up to their potential and the Sox have a hell of a rotation, even if they don't add anyone but an innings eating fifth starter. But I don't want to see the Sox do that and hope they don't. My flaw is paying 6 million soley for potential. Garland was a little high, but lets not round up, 3.4 mill is different then 4 mill. Considering his age and value on the trade market, it was a good signing. Plus the fact that he throws innings and typically keeps the Sox in games.

Daisuke Matsuzaka Thats the name I mentioned in an article I wrote this past summer after talking with Bryant Nelson of the Knights. He said this guy was the next guy whom would be capable of coming over and having an Ichiro like effect. Said he was absolutely filthy. Only 24 and plays for one of the best teams in Japan.
