  1. Thats a very good move by the Dodgers. I am a big Juan Encarnacion fan. This morning I was telling my dad that the Dodgers should pick him up. Juan was gonna get non-tendered so the Dodgers just assured themselves of getting him and I'm guessing they didn't give up anything much.
  2. Nice stuff upnorth. When I get time I'm gonna copy that post and put it up top courtsey of you, so people can make quick reference to it

  4. When I was a lot younger I got a ball from Luis Gonzalez (When he was on the Angels) and one from Luis Sojo (on the angels) when standing in front of the dugout. Probably 7 or so. I caught one in the world series in San Diego and some jackass hit the ball back out of my hand and it got knocked on the field. I got it was bringing it up and the dumbass decided he thought he'd have it and bam it went flying and none of us got it. It was a sweet grab too, I one handed it, but it wasn't anything hit hard. Funniest thing ever was at a Dodger game. My dad and I are seating in the loge (2nd leve) in between first and home. Lance Johnson is up (Was with the Cubs) and whack ball is a shot coming back right as us. We both have our eyes on the ball wanting to catch it, then the people in front of us jump in our way but dive out at the last second. None of us can see the ball cause of this jackasses and the balls drills my dad in the gut, bounces into his arm and he dives down to get the ball. He got it...next day he had the stitches bruised into his gut (along with a black and blue mark) as well as his hand. I first asked if he was alright, then started lauhing my ass off.
  5. No Doubt can do so many different sounds. I only bought their first cd (Long ass time ago) but they really are a pretty damn good band. Every year their sound changes, yet they continue to put out hit after hit. My Life is a pretty good song though, music video is pretty interesting.
  6. I heard Jason Marquis name on the radio. If they gave up Marquis and Wainwright then I think St. Louis did a hell of a job.
  7. I've always liked Drew. Its a good deal if the Braves don't give up much, because there are a lot of health risks in getting JD.
  8. I think he will be adding two starting pitchers. We'll just have to wait and see.
  9. We would be looking for a new closer cause there is no chance Foulke would be around next year as he would of left the Sox for more money. I couldn't possibly see the Sox offering him a 3 yr 21 mill deal.
  10. No chance. Garcia is gonna make more money then Frank. If I were going to trade contracts for contracts the only deals I'd consider are Weaver for Konerko (Dodgers send the Sox at least the 3 mill the Yanks sent, and they should ask for someone like Joey Thurston as well). Konerko for Garcia. Garcia makes a lot of money and well didn't have a productive year. Ya, he could turn himself around, but there are a lot of questionmarks.
  11. I don't blame the Sox. You really don't know what Batista will turn into so they tried staying safe, making sure they didn't end up getting stuck. Batista would of been a solid acquistion, but their is a lot out there still.
  12. Just remember a lot of people wanted a deal to happen when the Sox got Ritchie...and look how that turned out. Sox can't let their needs blind them. They have to wait for the right deals as the offseason has just begun.
  13. The thing to remember is, the other possible Sox GM, Dan Evans has left Dodger fans incredibly frustrated this offseason too. Other then the Angels, Yankees and Red Sox who has been incredibly agressive on the free agent front. Heck, the next most agressive team could arguably be the Kansas City Royals who have made solid moves, but the Sox could still easily outdo those moves. Either way....almost every baseball team out there is sitting on their hands right now, waiting for players to get non tendered and now that the Winter meetings are here you may see somethings happen and then after that some people will jump after the non tenders, others will continue to sit. Considering there are still plenty of quality players on Free Agency, rumored to be non tendered and on the trading block, I'm not worried at this point.
  14. now your just gonna have to pay steff royalties
  15. Now 56789's sig is freaking quality. I sure as hell hope Grossman can kick some ass on Sunday. And Heather, Hockey sucks
  16. According to Kevin Towers (The Padres GM) they are planning on signing a 5th starter in the winter meetings and as of now have no interest in Greg Maddux. They said in a month if Maddux is still out there, they will talk to him, but right now he's too expensive for them. That was on Mighty 1090 (Local Station in San Diego) during a live interview with Towers, who also said he feels Lofton will be elsewhere.
  17. The one thing I know is that Soriano has put up pretty much identical stats from the top of the order. Maggs does have a better OBP and fewer strikeouts while Soriano steals more bases. Soriano could become the best player in the majors. And he would fill a need if the Sox stuck him at 2nd, although he does have defensive woes. Either way you stick Reed/Harris/Rowand in center and sign Encarnacion or Jay Payton for cheap and stick them in right and you have your outfield. You get Soriano and Encarnacion for Magglio. Then move Koch for Weathers (ITS GONNA HAPPEN FOLKS, I stick by this). You clear an additional 3 mill. And the Sox work in a Konerko deal (Eventually I Think they can move him) and replace him with Thomas at first and look for another bat for cheap. Plenty of solid vet bats will be out there...or you could go with Spiezo, or if Palmerio has to take a lot less him. And the key is bring in one more pitcher to go with whoever you acquire for Konerko. Oh well, enough of me speculating, but their are a lot of possibilities out there. All depends how the Sox want to work it, but moving Maggs for Soriano would give them a hell of a lot of options.
  18. Isn't that what Konerko supposedly has?
  19. I think the first moves that happen in the meetings will be the Sox clearing payroll, but for all we know they have a plan of setting the payroll at 63 mill. It would be good business sense to say a lower price cause teams see it as you having a tighter budget. None of us really know. I just think they will have to move at least one of the bats and Koch.
  20. The main reason isn't the hip problem, but Percivals insistance that this will likely be his final season. The hip bothers him and there was a point last year the Angels thought he would never pitch again. Luckily things went smoothly and he's fine, but I think Percival knows he has a lot of money, has a world series ring and has had a great career. He's a hell of a pitcher.
  21. As the rosters stand right now, including expected raises to the arbitration guys, I think the Sox are roughly 3 mill under the proposed budget of 58 mill. Doesn't exactly leave them with a ton of room. It may be 5 mill though, I forgot, but I read it somewhere, have no idea how valid it is.
  22. You got my support Donkey...hell you could tell me to burn down my house as long as you had that picture of alizee up
  23. Right now there is only one viable trade I think the Sox could do and not get killed and thats Maggs for Soriano. I don't care what anyone tells me about Soriano, he's a hell of a player, cheap, and is still very marketable. While the Sox lose Maggs, the free up a hell of a lot of money and they don't say they are giving up because Soriano is a young all star. People can say oh we should get more in return for Maggs, but all I can say is if the Sox could some how pull this off, I'd be calling them geniuses because it would give the Sox more then enough room to add two pitchers, two relievers, and fill your other holes. Basically the Sox would be about 17 mill under budget. That allows for 10 mill on pitching, 4 mill on your two relievers and 3 mill to fill other holes. Thats just a rough estimate though. But no I don't think it will happen, but its by far and away the only rumored Maggs deal that I'd do. You don't trade your best player (Lee is good, but Maggs is still a machine at the plate) for crap in return, especially when he is young, a great guy, and well the organization can't afford negative PR and thats what would happen if you dealt him for prospects and I can't see any team willing to do that unless you eat a large chunk of his salary. The Yanks would be the only team out there willing to do that. So I hope George tells Sheff to pound sand and the Sox and Yanks can work out that deal.
