  1. Well, I always liked Mason Jr. It sucks that he won't be given a chance, but Brunson did play solid with the Bulls last year. Hopefully he does it again this year and he and Jeffries can work things out.
  2. Wow, thats a lot of baserunners. I'm sure some of us are breathing a sigh of relief. I wouldn't of minded him, as long as they weren't asking him to be anything more then Rick White.
  3. Baseball America is the only place I know of. But its a subscription site. If you got to FoxSports you may be able to find a top 10 on the Dodgers. Just go to their team page.
  4. Spiezo ain't worth 9 mill, imo. He's solid, but has an incredibly weak OBP, and as great as he is defensively, you don't spend 3 mill soley for a defensive 1st baseman. He is a good utility guy though. Fullmer was a much better value signing...Rangers did good when they got him.
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?statsId=4398 There are Juan Gone's stats. In 2001 he was an absolute stud. 2002 he was injured and in 2003 he put up some damn good numbers because of limited at bats. Hit .294, 24 HR, 70 RBI in just 327 AB. He played in only 82 games. If you figure those out to a 162 game season, thats pretty damn impressive. You can basically double his numbers and its realistic. Of course you would only expect 125-130 games, ensuring he gets time off, but he's a hell of a run producer. What did he make last season? Espn shows 14 mill, but that was his 2002 salary, not his 2003 salary.
  6. The Twins want to give their two young outfielders playing time. Plus Mohr didn't exactly put up Killer numbers. He's a solid role playing outfielder, no more, no less.
  7. The mariners gave him 3 yr 9 mill deal and they also traded Greg Colbrum for Quinton McCracken. Mariners Sign Spiezo; Acquire McCracken I'd have to think that McCracken makes Randy Wynn more moveable, since right now Wynn is slotted to be a spare part if they acquire another outfield bat (Which is likely).
  8. Well in reference to Juan Gonzalez, the Rangers weren't really using him as an everyday player because they were trying to get younger players involved since they weren't going somewhere. The Sox won't be looking for Juan Gone to carry the offense, but to be a component of the offense with Carlos Lee and Frank Thomas. I think the one flaw is the Sox stay "right handed" with this move. In hindsight, I think Juan Gone could be had for more like 2.5 mill or even a little less if he was going to get playing time. At that price its worth the risk, cause the guy can flat rake when he's healthy.
  9. Just remember that prospects not only help you on a major league level (By eventually becoming major league players), but also by helping you fill other areas of need via trade.
  10. Lmao....Pohlad a billionaire, but that 500 K scrappy is just too expensive. Gonna merge this in with a thread on this topic
  11. Well the Orioles don't look to be getting pudge, they offered him 3 yr 21 mill and he wants 3 yr 30 mill (According to ESPN News). The Orioles have now offered Javy Lopez 3 yr 18 mill.
  12. Jose Valentin for Roberts is a very very very plausible deal. I think the Sox would do something like that. Roberts is cheaper, very fast, and isn't coming off an injury. I think it would be a very nice pickup for the Sox.
  13. Interesting move. I wonder why they are doing PTBNL, I figured now that the Rule V is done, they wouldn't need to do that.
  14. If the Sox put Gonzalez in a position where he doesn't have to play every day (give Rowand some time or Borchard some time) then I think it makes a lot of sense. Gonzalez is one of the best run producers in the majors when healthy. No, Juan isn't in his prime anymore, but he can still produce and he's one of the toughest people to pitch to in the majors. He can flat rake it. See, I think if the Sox can deal Konerko or Thomas as well, then it makes it a lot easier cause you could use Juan Gone as a part time dh.
  15. No, because Borchard has produced in the minors while Henson has been iffy. Borchard is a much better prospect then Henson.
  16. I think you could get Juan gone to bite on a 2 yr deal worth 10 mill. Maybe even a 1 yr 5 mill deal and I wouldn't be shocked to see him get far less, but the lowest I see him getting is like 2 mill.
  17. Ya, if the Ponson report is true (i'd be very happy if it was) then I'd want one of Garcia/Perez. I'd prefer Perez because he's a little cheaper and a lefty, although Garcia is possibly the bigger name and you have to like the fact that he pitched in the AL. At the same time both are coming from pitcher parks, although Safeco is a better pitcher park, although it is an AL stadium. I'd say Garcia/Perez, Mota, and a prospect for Magglio would be great. Sox then sign Ponson so it acts as Ponson, Garcia or Perez, Mota, and a top prospect for Magglio Ordonez. It would be about 12 mill in salary the Sox would end up taking (if reports of that 6 mill deal are true with Ponson) and they'd get their stellar reliever to go with Marte. They still would need at least one more reliever, but its possible. The one thing is, this deal doesn't save a lot of cash, but it fills a whole lot of needs. And if the reports are true about Juan Gone, you could see Juan Gone, Ponson, Garcia/Perez, Top Prospect for Ponson. The problem is that would cost about 3 mill more then Magglio, but I'd take that slew of players of Maggs any day of the week. But to do that, the Sox would definately have to find a taker for Konerko or Koch, plus Jose, but I find moving Jose very realistic and I could see them getting a quality young arm out of it (Maybe a young reliever or something along those lines). Why am I getting excited again, this couldn't happen could it????
  18. If the Mariners got LoDuca for Garcia, I think they would be doing pretty good. Be warned though, if Garcia goes to the Dodgers, then I think it makes a Magglio deal with the Dodgers inevitable and that one of Garcia/Perez would be coming to the Sox, if not both. My question, would you guys do a Jose and Magglio for Garcia, Perez and Mota deal??? Who knows if the Dodgers would, but if they do add those two, it could be a possibility. I think the more likely scenario is one of those starters, Mota, and one of their top pitching prospects.
  19. Exactly, but I also haven't seen KW ever make mention of what the budget it. Sources say this and he says he has a budget, but sometimes people go over budget because its best for them. The Sox may say hey, if were over budget by 5 mill but put out a way way better team then the one that costs a little less, then it could be worht paying the 5 mill, rather then going crappy and losing a lot of attendance. In a sense, that 5 mill extra could cost them a lot less then sticking with what they have basically and not competing but at a rather high price. Who knows, I'm not gonna speculate on the salary, thats something out of our control (anyone here that has the ability to go to games does, so I'm not gonna say go to more games or anything like that, plus I'd be a hypocrite if I said it since I go to so many Sox games )
  20. I caught Gammons on sportscenter this morning and he made no mention of Ponson when talking about the Orioles. He specifically mentioned that they had made offers to Vlad and Pudge or that they will. Take it for what its worth though.
  21. Well, Kenny has said a few times as of late that he doesn't have to trade guys. I think JR wants him to but he isn't set on that.
  22. I'm guessing somehow the Sox would then move either Thomas or Konerko and move Lee and play Juan Gonzalez in left and a youngster like Reed/Rowand in right. But it would probably be a FA acquisition.
  23. Well, we can happily say that the Sox didn't lose any prospects in the Rule V.
  24. Weird...you'd think that be linked somewhere. I've only seen the NY times and now this even report that the Sox had made an offer. Maybe it is a deal they will announce in a few days, after they move Ordonez???
  25. Oh s***, if the Dodgers did that...all I could say is wow. I'd do that for Perez, Jackson and Mota, let alone getting one of their other top 4 prospects. I'd be patting KW on the back for that one. Sox would get a stud reliever, a solid starter and two top ass prospects.
