  1. I guarantee Sully ends up getting 2 mill or less. All I know is the Sox better be planning on adding some good relievers, cause without a good pen in the majors and if they are planning on running Scho or a rookie out there as the 4th and then a rookie as the 5th then they better have a hell of a bullpen.
  2. Here is the article from ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1681025
  3. ESPN says the Sox only offered it to Colon and Gordon. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1681025
  4. What the heck are they not offering Sully arbitration. He is a good reliever and now the Sox pen is absolutely bare. I love Marte, but he's the only good reliever out there. Until Koch proves himself again, he's not good, imo. The SOx now have a lot of work to do in that pen if you ask me. Lightenberg, Rhodes, Benitez...those are three guys I'd zero in on as well as Weathers via trade. Having a good bullpen is key. While the Sox have some good bullpen prospects in Majewski, Munoz and Sanders I don't want to see the Sox have to depend on all three of these guys.
  5. Well if Arthur Rhodes isn't offered arbitration, I think the Sox should jump on him and Kerry Lightenberg and work on a Koch for Weathers deal (I still believe the Mets will eventually jump on this..just let Howe and Peterson do the convincing) and then the Sox would get Weathers, Lightenberg and Rhodes. All are good veteran relievers that have some closer experience and one is a lefty. Mix that with Marte and you have four quality relievers and your long man in Danny Wright and you have Dave Sanders, Arnie Munoz, and Gary Majewski as possibilities as well. I believe the Sox will non tender Scho unless they can sign him for a lot less.
  6. s***...Grimsley was a guy that would of been awesome for the Sox to get. At a mill the Royals are getting him for a bargain. Now if I'm Kenny, I'd get ready to jump on someone like Lightenberg and I'd have to think you could get him for near a mill since Grimsley is a better pitcher. Sully gone??? Didn't the Sox offer him arbitration?
  7. I think Colon could be had for money similar to what Escobar got, maybe even a bit less, especially with some other solid starters still sitting out there. If Colon is probably going to accept the Angels offer, then it wouldn't be too bad to sign Ponson and then invest the additional funds into a 5th starter or if the Sox are confident they can get their fifth in a Konerko or Magglio trade then they could invest that extra money into the bullpen.
  8. Ya, we'd have six picks in the first two rounds. Thats assuming that the Sox hold onto Sullivan, whom they will offer arbitration too. Our own first and second rounders and then two supplemental picks (between 1st and 2nd round) and then either two first or 2nd round picks, depending. The SOx are getting a 2nd round pick for Gordon and would most likely get the first rounder from Anaheim (unless they are picking too high).
  9. Shiggy got pretty good money then, but he put up very good numbers and proved he can close. Armando Benitez would be a good pickup, if he is available for about 2 to 2.5 mill and thats assuming that the Sox can move Koch.
  10. Ya, the Gordon situation is all taken care of. The Sox will have two picks.
  11. I'm guessing he got about 2.5 mill a year. If the Sox could somehow deal Koch, and clear half of his salary they will be able to add two quality relievers.
  12. I think if they picked up Juan Gonzalez they would be playing him left field (Lee playing 1st or traded) or they would be playing him at DH (With Thomas at first). Right field is not an option for him, imo. Right now I think the Sox probably just looked into it so they know whats out there in case Lee gets dealt. I don't think Kenny wants to deal Lee, but if he can't move Koch, get value for Maggs or move Konerko then he may have to move Lee so he can bring in the pitching he wants.
  13. And with Colvin here, we wouldn't of seen the emergence of Lance Briggs, who likes like a real player to me. Plus, last I heard Colvin is out for the season. But, if Angelo didn't goof on the wohle check box thing, we'd probably have Colvin right now and Holdman may of been the odd man out.
  14. I think his high strike out totals are the thing to worry about. He's not worth 7 mill, I'd much much much rather give Tejada 8 mill because you pretty much know what you will get out of him. This is just a typical Met move...new GM, same dumb moves if you ask me. I could be wrong though, I think the people that kind of know are the guys that have seen Matsui play. The most we can do is speculate based on stats and reading things. I think at the worse he will be a fast, very good defensive shortstop that will hit .260 - .270 with 15 hr's and quite a few stolen bases. In that sense he won't be a bust, but I don't really consider that a 7 mill a year player. Then again, he could really struggle and strikeout a ton, but Japanese players usually are good fundementally so I don't see a huge dropoff. I just laugh how the Mets continue to buy players instead of let their youngsters take a year or two to develop and then go out and bring in the vets to go around the ones that look like they will pan out.
  15. I think once the Sox jump out there, you will see them pretty active. Not necessarily big time players, but I see more trades then most teams would make...possibly more then anyone and a few FA signings. I got to think the first move would possibly be signing Colon or moving Konerko or Magglio. Those seem like the most likely options right now. I guess announcing a contract with Sully could happen soon, cause I'm convinced he will finish his career with the Sox.
  16. Lightenberg would be an excellent pick up. He has playoff experience from his days with the Braves and if I recall he has some closer experience with the Braves as well. Sully, Lightenberg and Grimsley are the three guys I would like. Both are righties that are different type of pitchers. I should add that I think Koch should be gone and I think the Mets will eventually get him, with a distant possibility of him joining the Red Sox. If the Sox deal Koch for Weathers, then I'd suggest just two righty relievers and the addition of a lefty, unless they decide to stick with Wunsch, who is a Type C free agent. Are the Sox going to offer him arbitration? Or do the Sox own his rights still so they can either keep him or non tender?
  17. Good article and I kind of agree with Kenny, the only thing is, I think payroll wise the only way he will be able to fill those positions is with a complete overhaul. It is nice to see that he considers 2nd and cf a need position at this stage in the game. Personally, I don't have a problem going with Willie and Reed as long as the Sox have very good pitching and relief.
  18. I don't know if paying Eddie Guardado 5 mill a year is quite worth it. Personally I thought Hawkins was the better of the relievers in Minnesota. I think the Sox would be better off investing 5 mill in two more relievers, plus Sullivan. Those two relievesr could be Lightenberg and Grimsley and I think the Sox would be pretty well set with those 3.
  19. Sounds great Jim...I got one more week of school then the week after that finals. Once they are over, i'll sit down and write a letter up, rework my resume and cover letter (I have one written already for applying for an internship with the Angels, so I shouldn't have to make too many changes on it). Thanks for your help.
  20. Finally its Grossman time and the dumbass band of coaches can start packing their bags.
  21. Portis is a stud. Best back in the NFL.
  22. Thanks for the info Jim. I think I'll try that out over the summer. I wanted to get an intership with the Angels this past season, but they wanted you to be a Junior in college. Don't know what I would of done, but scouting would be cool if it was on an assignment basis. I'm definately going to write some letters to a few organizations during my christmas break and try get my foot in the door
  23. Thanks, after making the post I realized I wasn't counting the original picks the Sox had. This should definately put the Sox in a good position to get some stud pitchers and some other stud prospects. I think the Sox will have a pitcher heavy draft this year. And my guess is that Shaffer will be running it. I Think Shaffer still ran last years draft too, but I could be wrong.
  24. Penn, aka The Wharton school of business is constantly ranked as the top business school. Amongst Penn other Top 5 schools are Michigan, Northwestern, University of Chicago, and your Harvard type schools. Indiana's is pretty good. As far as MBA programs, Northwesterns is supposed to be top dog. But for public Schools, Michigan is probably one of the best in the country. Thats hopefully where I'll be going in a year and a half. Joint MBA/Law Degree here I come...first up my undergrad
