Phil Rogers reported that the Sox would like to do something like this and I think thats exactly the case. THe SOx would love to do it while the Dodgers aren't too willing to, at least not yet. I don't think Evans wants to get pressured into making any type of move and I think he's right by doing this. I think the Dodgers still have some other options out there, but that deal would be great for the Sox. By the way, welcome aboard

Danny constantly throws arond 94 MPH.
-
They were the 12th worse team in the league, but I think the league averages like the past few seasons so they may be picking right around 15.
-
No, then its their 2nd rounder. Thats the one thing I was wondering, where exactly they fit in cause they absolutely tanked it in the 2nd half of last season.
-
This is a better move then its looked at. The Brewers have slowly turned things around and now have one of the better farms system out there. Supposedly Wilder had a lot to do with this. I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. I think Wilder was one of the guys that was big on Posdenik, but don't quote me on that.

Until Valentin gets dealt...a possibility...Uribe is soley Graffanino's replacement and he has a whole lot more upside then Miles, plus the Sox had Harris as a backup at 2nd, but have no one that could of played shortstop other then Jose.
-
My bad Tim Worrell, not the former closer of the Dodgers...Todd. I don't think Benitez sucks. He isn't the best but he has a hell of a fastball and has been a sucessful closer for a while. He's not going to be get big bucks and could easily come in and do a job very similar to Gordon and I think he has a lot better odds of making it through the season healthy. And Jimenez has pitched very very well in Coors of all places. Once again great stuff and closer experience and could come cheap.

Look, the Sox offered Colon 10 mill a year over 3 years with nothing deferred. There is nothing the Sox should of done or could of done when the Angels came in with a 4 yr 48 mill offer. Thats a contract that could bite a team in the ass. If the Sox were looking at a 70-75 mill payroll, then they could afford to over-pay but thats not the case. The Sox should take their picks (One First Rounder cause Colon is rated above Escobar and a sandwich pick) and then look to Ponson. Ponson can come without costing them a draft pick and then they can move their attention to adding relievers such as Guardado, Rhodes, Benitez and Jimenez. Tim Worell and Jeff Nelson are some other quality options. Millwood isn't a bad idea, but I say go a little cheaper with Ponson because A you keep your draft picks, b the Sox can invest some extra money in the pen which is a necessity and C Ponson is pretty young and has semi proven he can pitch in the AL. Plus Ponson put up better numbers last year then Millwood or Colon. Not saying he's necessarily better, but give him the shot.

Benitez and Jimenez are two guys I'd be interested in. I think the Sox should get as many guys with closer experience that are good that you possibly can. Guardado, Arthur Rhodes (I may of missed it, maybe the Mariners have signed him cause I haven't been around much today) and then Benitez and Jimenez. Get two of them to go with Marte and use Koch to get another reliever and I think your set with Wright and one of the rookies as your other reliever.
-
Well if it turns out to be Ponson and Guardado or another stud reliever instead of Colon then I'd say you got a legit case. I like Ponson. I like the fact that he's young, I like the fact that he has good stuff and I like the fact that he's been improving each of the past few seasons, but he's no Colon...yet. They both are very similar pitchers though.
-
Danny Wright has the best stuff of anyone on the pitching staff if you ask me, well now that Colon is gone. He just flat out impresses me with a great fastball and a very good knuckle curve. I think he could turn into a DOMINANT reliever. He looked pretty good out of the pen last year. I really see him turning into a horse of a reliever and I do agree with a lot of the Gagne comparisions. There was another guy I was always high on and hoping the Sox would get. Damn if Wright could pull a Gagne...wow.
-
Danny Wright is gonna be a good reliever. He's got great stuff. I don't think I like giving Guardado 5 mill a year. I'd rather see the Sox snag Arthur Rhodes and a righty reliever for about 5 mill a year between the two of them and then see them unload Koch for Weathers. I just don't see how this deal works unless Koch is dumb. You can't have 12 mill invested in 2 relievers if your crying "poor".
-
Yep...sox are just going to sit around out there because they have so many dumb contracts on their team.
-
Ya, heads will be putting together a contest or at least I'm assuming he will be
-
The Cubs would be my best guess. I really don't see many teams jumping out to sign him. I think this was a big mistake on Boras' part. One other team would possibly be the Orioles since they were interested in him last year. I think Boras just screwed Pudge though cause I can't see anyone offering him what the Marlins did.
-
Now this is the first good news of the night, because it makes it more likely that the Sox get the yanks first rounder instead of 2nd rounder.
-
He'll have to take a big pay-cut, probably around 2 mill or thats my guess. Could be a bit more with incentives or something along those lines.
-
He is a FA and Gabe White may be too. Either one of them would be nice, then add two righties and I'd say your set. I want 3 more relievers to go with Marte or at least that would be my plan and I'd ship Koch out of here to get one of the relievers.

I know someone posted a stat but the last few years almost no players have won. A few years ago that was different, but its really been changing and in arbitration you either win or lose, there is no inbetween if I recall. Considering Gordon, Grimsley, Hawkins, and Quantrill's signing all of whom are better pitchers, I don't see how an arbitrator could justify Sully being worth 3 mill.
-
Worrel did a great job with the Giants, I'd have to think he'll get big bucks, but if he doesn't, he'd be a great pickup.
-
If the Sox aren't willing to pay Sully 3 mill, then there is no chance they will offer Scho 3 mill which is what it will take or I think thats about the minimum he can get. The Sox are gonna non tender him. I do agree it wouldn't be bad to trade Maggs, get cheap players that can contribute and have upside and then go out and sign Vladdy to bring the fans. You can get Vladdy for less then they are paying Maggs this year, if you ask me. Osuna Lightenberg Rhodes Benitez Definately some others as well.
-
I figured he'd end up getting 2.3 mill or so and thats only if the Sox didn't come to terms with him. Sully doesn't want to go to a bunch of places, he just wants to have a long term deal. This move makes me sour because Sully is a class guy and a very good pitcher. I understand it if things weren't working well between the agent and the Sox, but I still think the Sox now need to make some moves in regards to the pen. I'm not saying they need to overpay, but they better now be thinking about adressing the pen sooner, rather then later.

The Twins got some good pitching prospects and a few that will probably jump up. It seems like a lot of the twins relief prospects come up and do well out of the gate. Let me be the first to say the Twins overpaid. Stewart definately played good, but he's not a 6 mill a year player when you have a team with budget constraints. The Twins would of been a lot better if they kept Jones and Hawkins (Jacque Jones is now a goner).
-
What cheap assholes MLB and Selig is. If they were going to do anything good for that team they would of at least offered arbitration because there is no chance Vladdy will accept it. Well I guess they must of been worried that he would of, but I'd have to think the odds are much much greater that they would be picking up at least a few draft picks. If the Expos were gonna lose them, then they should of dealt him for something at the deadline. What a joke...baseball owning a team.
