QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) The giants went ham last year, made playoffs. I didn't want a thousand players signed. I just wanted a cornerback or safety. When Berry re-signed, just a cornerback. I wasn't greedy. The Giants have a legit QB though (I don't love Eli, but he is a huge step-up from anything the Bears have). And even then, I'm not exactly envious of the Giants...I don't see them with any realistic shot at the superbowl right now.

If Glennon sucks, we cut him anyway with no implications long-term. We are drafting a QB early and that is good. We have enough cap space that we could sign Gilmore/Jeffrey plus Glennon no problem. Whether they want to do that or not, that is up to them, but signing Glennon didn't prevent us from making other moves and it doesn't hinder us long-term. We know Hoyer isn't going to be above average, Glennon has flashed some ability to other scouts. He may be worse then Hoyer, but there is a chance he's actually good, in which case, nice signing. If he isn't, doesn't matter, we cut him at the end of the year, and hope that the guy we drafted this year looks better. If the guy we drafted isn't that good and we stink, then we hope that we are picking near the top of the board and have a shot at a "franchise" QB. We need to stop kicking the can on QB. The Jags won free agency for like 2 years in a row (and maybe a 3rd this year) and the last two years they had very little to show for it. This team was never a couple signings away from being great...we need the right QB and we need to hit on young players and develop those players to get better. Then, we'll be in a position where free agency can help fill final pieces. We need to be smart and the Bears need to be patient so they don't make moves today that prevent them from making the right move that maybe could put them over the top in the future.

Going crazy on day one wasn't going to put us over the top. We need to be smart, that said, we do need to upgrade some key positions. I want cap flexibility more then anything for when we are ready to get better. That said, if they weren't going to go "crazy", they should have probably done a better job with "rumor" control cause I think that got a lot of fans hyped up. My view is we won't be good until we address QB and Glennon is most likely a temporary fix so I'm curious to see what we do in the draft. Our best signings last year happened on day 3. The Jags won free agency for a couple years with nothing to show of it, same for the Redskins for forever. Lot of time left and it isn't like we are a few signings away. If we were a 9 win team with this kind of cap space, I'd say we should be more aggressive, with 3 wins, we need to be a bit more smart (although I always presumed we would be paying Alshon).

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) http://wgnradio.com/2017/03/08/hoge-scouti...k-mike-glennon/ I hope you guys are prepared for when I suddenly start hyping up Glennon because I buy into everything. My view is, we need to keep investing in QB until we hit. If we think there is even a shot Glennon could be above average, we are in a position where we need to take that shot (just ensure if we miss, we aren't paying for it 3 years from now).

What channel are these games on? MLB network?

What is Fulmer's velocity?

You know what I don't like...how Quinn didn't "fully recover" from last years injuries. I wish he was still the badass he always was. He clearly still has some of the smarts, but he was one of the most badass characters on TV and now he's so hindered. Note: I'm referring to homeland.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) I actually think Jeffery is coming back. Niners signed Garcon and Marquise Goodwin. Philly is signing Kenny Britt. Leaves the Bears and Titans for Jeffery Reports I heard last yesterday on NFL network were that they thought the Bears were front-runners.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) Alshon Jeffrey? Oh, never mind It is why I thought/think we are nuts to let Alshon walk. I guess we'll see what happens...I heard someone on NFL network talking yesterday and they had the Bears as the frontrunners for retaining Alshon. That said, if the Niners are giving as much as I heard to Garcon, I am less convinced Alshon is a Bear.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) I think if they were going to take a QB with the #3 pick, they wouldn't spend the money on Glennon. Yes, you most likely will need a placeholder anyway, but I think they would sign a guy a tier or so lower in salary commitment. Agree..Glennon tells me we are either moving back into the end of the 1st or taking a guy with our 2nd round pick. We aren't signing Glennon and taking a QB at 3.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 08:35 AM) Other than those top three guys which you may be able to choose from all 3 you are likely not to find anyone who is going to amount to anything in a weaker draft for QB's. You really think the Bears are going to find their Dak Prescott somewhere in there? Historically the best QB in the leagues come out of the first round and even that isnt a great chance but they have to address this QB issue for the long term instead of p**** footing around the issue by signing mediocre stop gaps and drafting guys in the mid rounds. This cycle will never end if they keep going this way. They need to grow some balls and key in on one the top three guys. If he isnt there at 3 then fine. Or if they REALLY believe there is no chance that any of the top three will amount to anything in the NFL then fine. But I just have a hard time believing that out of Kizer, Watson and Trubisky that none of them are going to stick in this league as a good QB. One wildcard to all of this is QB's just aren't developed like they used to so it is almost harder to scout them today then it was 10 years ago. So many spread / non pro offenses that it is hard to project how they will adapt in an NFL system (and ultimately their is a ton of development that happens in the league). With that in mind, I think we'll see more guys emerge in later rounds then historically would have happened. That said, If we sign Glennon we need to be aggressive in also drafting the guy the front office likes and if that means moving up into the back end of the 1st to ensure you get that guy, then you do it. Ideally, I'd move down @ 3 (there needs to be someone on the board though that another team would move up for), so that you have the ammunition to move up later and get that QB. I'd then draft whichever top safety was on the board with the pick we moved down with.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 08:29 AM) Supposedly it's 3 years/45 million for Glennon lol. All about guaranteed money though. I'm guessing it's only 1 year of guaranteed money. If there is a ton of guaranteed money, I don't like it. If the guaranteed money is right, I have no major problem with it. If we just sign him and ignore QB in the draft, I'll be irate.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) CSN Chicago reports the 49ers, Jets, and Bills have all dropped out of the bidding for free agent Mike Glennon. We're not convinced the Bills were ever involved, while multiple reports elsewhere suggest the Jets were severely outbid by the Bears. Bay Area reports state the 49ers have "no interest" in Glennon at all. With only the Bears left to bid, it's possible Glennon's price tag drops below his expected $14-15 million annually. All signs continue to point toward Glennon landing in Chicago. Source: CSN Chicago Stop the 15 mil a year madness talk now Pace. I'm not mad at it, as long as we can drop him no problem in future years. Key to me isn't the per year, it is the guaranteed money and cap implications going forward.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) Or keep Jay Cutler for a $16 million cap hit. Option B sounds smarter. I think in a vacuum, keeping Jay and drafting a QB is the best decision you can make. We can drop him easily a year from now and talent wise he's the best of the current free agent QB's. That said, there is a point where just from a business / culture perspective, you have to move on and I get that with Jay. I presume if you go after Glennon, you are giving him up-front money and somewhere you have an isolated view that he can be an above average QB if all goes right and you are okay taking your shot at that, while also investing a high pick (not #3 high, but still high) in a QB who you also like (but obviously have doubts about...no QB picked in the 2nd round is guaranteed of success...clearly) and you figure going both routes the odds are there. I base all of this logic around the thoughts that you believe Glennon has some upside. If you don't think Glennon has the upside and he's purely here to groom a QB, I don't see why you don't just save the money and go with Hoyer.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) Yes. Incredibly fast and dynamic in open field, incredibly dense and cannot learn a playbook. They haven't exactly had great QB play though. I'd be interested in Patterson from the pure sense that we lack speed and our special teams has been mediocre. He helps fill the void in both departments and potentially has some (albeit limited) upside as a receiver. As long as the price is right, I'm open to the play. Pryor is a guy I'd be all over (if the price was right). I think there is real potential upside if we were to sign him.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 03:33 AM) Also, would anybody complain if Kawhi Leonard won his third straight DPOY and the MVP this year? I'd give it to Harden.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 06:14 AM) The Mike Glennon era for the Bears begins today doesnt it? The joy. If they gave him a deal that had some upside for him, but less in guarantees, I'm open to it...as long as they also intend on drafting a QB by the 2nd round (essentially go the Seahawks approach).

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) All they have to do is repeat what they did the last week and a half, beat Indiana, Wisconsin and Maryland, and they are in the finals. They are NIT bound, but there is cause for some optimism in the future even losing Jok. They finally have more than one really legit 3 point guy. I also think Fran's son is going to be a stud. Fran has legitimately built up this program from the Lickliter stuff. I was dissapointed how the last couple years Hawkeye teams struggled down the stretch, but to be where we are at with this years club is definitely shocking. So many freshman/sophomores contributing and they are all guys who I would suspect will be here the next couple of years. If Fran's son is a stud, that will be a huge boost to an already good/building nucleus. Hopefully Iowa shocks us and gets into the tourney and then next year continues to take steps forward.

I think if they beat Indiana and Wisconsin, they are in. If they beat Indiana and lose to Wiscy, probably out, but legitimate shot of being the last team in (if they don't get in, they are certainly hosting an NIT game). If they lose to Indiana, they are out and NIT bound (and NIT bound and still probably hosting an NIT game).

Come on Hawkeyes, pull off the win against Indiana. I think we need two wins to be in, but at least a win against Indiana will at least make selection Sunday interesting as a Hawkeye fan

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) The rumor was Romo to WAS, Cousins to SF, drafts picks to DAL. No picks to Washington? That would be crazy.

Schefty is on ESPN 1000 and says from everything he has heard, no QB will go in the top 3. I don't buy it, but interesting coming from Shefty.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) This year's crop of DB's is one of the best we've seen. Its time to load up. I also presume we will sign a free agent to a big time deal.
-
What is this about a rumored Cowboys / Redskins / Niners deal that was vetoed?
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 07:55 AM) I don't necessarily think he'll be fired at end of year. But if the free agents he just tied a bunch of money up into aren't good, then it's only a matter of time. The "well we have a bunch of room under the cap" excuse will be gone. I presume we aren't going to go insane. We need to keep flexibility, but we also need to add some playmakers and it is okay to add a few via free agency. He's going to succeed by hitting in the draft, imo. Another draft like last year and this team will be in an even better spot (presuming players continue to develop / take next steps).
