  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Rose is just a terrible player at this point. He's no longer starter caliber and hasn't been for a while. He'd probably be best suited in a 6-man type role, where he could come in and you just ask him to score (and he'd play hard those limited minutes). That said, probably too much to ask. I'm just glad he's another teams problem.
  2. Raptors have a good back-up though, which should help, as long as Lowry can get healthy before the playoffs.
  3. Interesting...in the report they talk about how bad his defense is. Yes...I agree...he become one of the worst defensive players in the entire league (like Doug McDermott bad). He is actually shooting at a pretty high clip (from 2 point range). His assist totals continue to be awful (not sure how he ever almost average 8 APG when you think back and look at how lousy of a passer he is).
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Rumor the Knicks will waive DRose Interesting. He's actually been better then he was last year (and largely healthy). I wonder why? Is this just a thing so they can suck even more? Or is Rose asking for it? Or is he that bad in the lockeroom (presume that isn't the case)?
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) Embiid out indefinitely. He's not gonna make it. Damn shame. Losing Oden was bad enough but this guy has personality for days. Dario Saric will go down as one of the worst ROY winners in history. E: Kyle Lowry done for at least the regular season. Wrist surgery. LeBron's road just got a lot easier. Further emphasizes, that look at what "tanking" got the Sixers. One guy is down and out, another was widely available for trade but not dealt for a minimal package (Okafor) and a 3rd was sent to Dallas for a pretty minimal trade? The 4th is going to miss the entire season (albeit, he certainly has the most potential out of the group...not named the injured Embiid).
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) Bulls about to release a PG, seems MCW and Canaan are the likely candidates I presume it would be Canaan. I don't see why you would release MCW over the guy who never plays.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Well, maybe we'll finally get a comp pick and they think that would have beat what they'd have gotten on market. I still think this is dumb as hell. Can anyone confirm...do they look at comp picks in isolation (for losing a player)? Or do they look at the net gains / losses via free agency. So for example, if the Bears signed like 6 pretty good size free agents, but loss Alshon, would they consider the fact that we signed other guys when evaluating for whether we deserve a pick for losing Alshon? If the answer is no, then I could understand this as I would suspect we'd get a decent comp pick for him (maybe one of those end of 3rd round ones). That said, I thought they look at players lost and gained, in which case, I presume we'll get nothing, since we will likely be signing a good number of free agents.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) LeBron isn't stupid. He recognizes that the team he has isn't going to beat the Warriors with Kevin Durant. Of course he wants more. But so does the rest of the NBA. Why do you think that the best team in the history of the NBA blew away cap spaces and players to make room for Kevin Durant? Every body is looking for more. Singling out James for wanting more is silly, especially since even now the Warriors are adding players too. What Lebron is doing, isn't forcing Cleveland to get better players (indirectly it might do a bit)...it is him trying to manage his legacy when he loses to Warriors in 5 games (hell...if he makes it to the Warriors). I don't love anyone in the east and Lebron is Lebron, but Cleveland just doesn't play that well together. Don't get me wrong, they are good, but they don't look like a championship team because the 3 guys on the team kind of neuter each other. I thought that would happen a bit with Golden State...but no...it didn't. KD is playing the best defense of his career.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) These are players who, while ineffective as starters, are fantastic bench players to come in and log effective minutes. I do agree that they should serve a solid purpose off the bench (but in many of these guys cases, they are on their last limbs, so what you are hoping for is that they can get themselves up for 10-15 minutes per playoff game where the roles fit). Bogut isn't great, but he can be a solid big body where necessary (that said, I don't see how he helps much against Golden State, for example).
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) Then he should've kept his mouth shut and recognized that there was nothing Cleveland was going to be able to do to counter that. No, he did the exact opposite. He went public over and over and disrespected a legend along the way because he wanted more help. He wanted a playmaker. He got just that. He wanted a big after Birdman went down. He got a big. He got one of the best shooters in league history for free. No excuses. Most of those players are on the absolute downside of their careers. Miami isn't just dropping Derrick Williams if they thought he was really good. Could they help in the post-season, absolutely, but the difference between a healthy Cavs team and healthy Warriors team is pretty far apart, imo.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) There is one writer out there that is throwing fuel on that fire on top of it with a rating of Tatis MUCH higher than anyone else. It will be interesting to see how the kid plays out. It is more then just one writer. I don't define success as being on a top 100 list, I define it more long-term, that said, in the near term, success is having positive reports come out and Tatis has been on the end of multiple positive reports over the past 12 months (not just from Keith Law). Many scouts have had positive things to say about his potential. He shouldn't be anywhere near a top 100 list because he is still very raw, but the tools are very much there to the fact that you could see him turning into a good asset in the long-term. I also was one of the most vocal people at the deadline regarding how bad it was to sell Tatis for Shields.
  12. Joakim Noah out for the year. Having knee surgery. Love Jo and hope he can get better. We can all rip on Gar / Pax, but I will at least give them credit for not tying the Bulls up to an horrible long-term deal and allowing us the opportunity to be flexible. I could have easily seen them trying to keep one of Jo / Gasol and instead they made the right move as it related to both of them. That said, I hope somehow the surgeons work a miracle and we can watch some healthy Joakim Noah in the future.
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) It's pretty clear the Sox are much more inclined to get three or four notable guys as opposed to one big fish and maybe another guy or two that are notable. I am not sure it's the worst plan but the results aren't that promising. Hard part is, it is still tough to evaluate. Tatis Jr. looks promising (unfortunately he's a Padre). It takes a long time for these guys to become much of anything and it really hasn't been that long since the whole Wilder fiasco and the related scandal, then add in the fact that Paddy hasn't been around that long (in the scheme of developing 16 year old kids...you really are talking 5-7 years of doing your thing in a space before you get a good idea). We should be at the point where we start seeing some of these guys emerge as they come into the states though and I'm hoping that is a trend we start to see here in 2017 / 2018 (as we are getting to that point in the window, imo). I don't necessarily fault the Sox strategy either (given how raw all of these kids are...a few good ones might be better then 1 great one). They should maximize their opportunity to go out and expand their pool though, especially given the current rebuilding state.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 07:01 AM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...b1xKFyoskYw5.97 Ben Badler's first International Preview is out. The White Sox are not linked to anyone in this article. They have $4.75 million to spend. They can acquire $3.5 million more. If they don't capitalize this year, they are the same old White Sox in my opinion. There is no excuse not to spend $8 million on the foreign market this year and they should get eviscerated if they do not do so. I agree..I want to see them acquire that extra $3.5M.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) Looks like Bogut to the Cavs is official. The Cavs, despite being WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY over the cap, have added Korver, Derrick Williams, Deron Williams and Andrew Bogut. Those are four quality roleplayers that address every need Cleveland had coming into the season. So all of LeBron's crying has paid off. Ball is in your court now, buddy. No excuses come June. They still aren't in the same league as Golden State, imo.
  16. This Iowa team has been bumpy, but man they have surprised me. Huge win against the Terps and while they have had their losing streaks, including getting swept by the Illini, they continue to respond. The young freshmen came up huge against Maryland.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 07:27 AM) Jeffery is gonna get like 15 million a year and then catch like 60 passes next year. You could always tag and trade him. You could get at least a future 2nd round pick (I would think) and your cap situation could afford the worse case scenario which is he stays another year under franchise tag (we have so much cap space it wouldn't be a problem). It also gives you another year to see on White as well as see what Meredith could become. This is just terrible. Awful management of assets. Note: Are the Bears are banking on the"compensatory pick" that they will get for him. If you sign a bunch of free agents and lose a big name free agent, do you actually get a pick?
  18. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 06:25 AM) So the Bears let Alshon walk for nothing. If you knew you would do that why the hell did you not trade him last year? They must think Cam Meredith is going to be great and that White is going to be healthy and good. I dont believe in either of the two to be honest. WTF...this is ridiculous. Way to absolutely ruin a potential asset. What the heck.
  19. Don't stop now boys!!! I'll take it. Another good game for Denzel and obviously Jimmy and Wade. Niko too.
  20. Ugly start, strong finish. Butler & Wade were strong at the end...Denzel does what he does when he plays...burries a s*** ton of threes. I hope he finally gets a consistent burn (and doesn't get hurt or randomly gets a bunch of DNP's). Niko played a good game too (flashed some of that good D I've been talking about). Butler is f***ing absurd in the 4th quarter of games. So many times this year where he is meh for 3 quarters only to go beast mode in the 4th. Back to .500...which means we are due for another losing streak. Really was surprised to see MCW in the starting lineup...he went on to wet the bad with horrid shots early and often and some bad turnovers. Only played 8 minutes despite starting.
  21. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) oh my god. kaplan just asked forman about his vision for "what kind of team are you going forward?" Forman mentioned how they want guys who are going to work hard and specifically mentioned Felicio, Portis, Zipser and Payne ! Pretty damning indictment on Denzel if he didn't mention him.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) So, hurt your chances this year, then decide? If they were going to wait until the offseason to decide, they may as well have tried to win some games the next couple of months. Maybe I am way off, but I don't think Payne is a game changer. He isn't a good shooter, he isn't really a good passer. He does play decent defense, but if you are a point guard who can't shoot or pass, and rely on defense to stay in the league, you are a 10-15 minute a night guy at best, and will probably go 2 week stretches of not playing at all under Hoiberg. Payne has played so little that it is hard to say and statistically, most young point guards tend to take a bit of time before they start to emerge. Payne might suck, but he could be good. In terms of his shot, based upon the college stuff I saw from him, it looked like he had some potential to shoot, and his 3 point percentage this year isn't bad. The big thing with him is he's pretty small (needs to add muscle) and he has had major durability issues (if you can't get on the court, you certainly can't develop).
  23. Zipers's ankle injury must be pretty bad. He will remain out. Valentine will reportedly be part of the rotation and obviously Bobby P will be starting in place of Taj (I would have figured it would have been Niko). Rondo will continue to come off the bench with Grant starting.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Weren't Niko and McDermott the guys who were supposed to thrive under Hoiberg? Is there really a player that fits whatever his system is besides guys that are great no matter what? You would have thought both would have been good fits and quite frankly, Rondo is running Fred's system in the bench role (and actually playing pretty solid off the bench).
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 10:40 AM) I stayed fairly positive about the on the court play, it was bad but still competitive. But February it just got to be a slog. Same mistakes. It's crazy to think about those first 3 games of the season. The ball being whipped around, 3s falling. If it's not Jimmy vs. Toronto it's just not that fun to watch. Was February really that bad? They struggled in those games without Wade / Butler, but they continued to beat some quality opponents. They have continued to be a terribly inconsistent team under Fred (and that has been the case for pretty much this year too). They have been 9-8 in the month of February and that included wins against Boston, Toronto, OKC, Memphis, and New Orleans. They did have those two horrific games against Phoenix and Minnesota (where Butler played in one prematurely and the other without him...but they were just awful in those games). They are who they are...which is a roughly .500 team who can beat some good teams but will fail to show up against other teams. Note: I don't know what they are without Taj.
