I'd love it if we could somehow move someone for some competitive balance picks.

By the way, Rick Hahn is probably not spending any time on this deal. They have other people in charge of that. Bottom line, I've been the first to say the Sox have to change the way they do things. They have continuously put out teams which have performed far worse than their perceived paper notions and while that can happen occasionally, when it continuously happens it is a major problem and things have to change. Whether Jerry changes people or not, who knows, it certainly would appear that the GM/President will be back for another year with a new manager and the big question will be what direction does the team head. If we don't see concrete changes this off-season (given some of the bold statements they have made), then they will continue to irritate fans and hey, that is on them for what have been real failures in actual performance.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 05:55 AM) Houston had Enron; Denver had Invesco and Sports Authority. All gone now. Invesco is not gone.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 04:21 AM) People laughing about the name of the park in which you had no role naming? Oh my God. How are you guys going to cope? Get counseling. The internet is upset...but don't worry, a week from now...they'll have forgotten and the world will move on. If anything, look at the positives. A few years after the US Cellular naming convention, we had a way better stadium that hosted a world series championship!!!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 10:42 PM) Trolls? Look at all the people on here who think this is a disgrace. What is Guaranteed Rate? Nobody's ever heard of the company. It should be spun in a negative way BTW, it's embarrassing. If I was an owner, I'd be the first to have corporate logo's all over my teams jerseys too. Why, cause it would give me the most resources to put the best and most competitive team on the field, period, which ultimately should be my ultimate goal. This deal does nothing to hinder that ability (and if anything, gives additional resources and will ensure a very nice ballpark experience as that is money that can continue to go into keeping the park nice).

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) Guaranteed rate of losing baseball under the current ownership. And if instead the team was winning, you could turn it absolutely around. Again, it is a non story. Team needs to fix its act from a player development perspective and the FOCUS should be on that, not on this nonsense.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Just the idea of "Guaranteed Rate" carved into actual concrete at 35th and Shields is cringe worthy. US Cellular just doesn't seem so intrusive...maybe because US at least seems or feels like it could be patriotic or something you might be able to be proud about. About the only positive I can think of is their ability to execute and leverage this agreement to also sign a NEW deal with a cell phone service provider that brings in another revenue stream. If they don't take advantage of that, you'd have a difficult time arguing the benefits financially outweigh the negatives (already discussed for multiple pages) that come with this agreement. Guaranteed Fail Down arrows... Guaranteed cheap seats they can't give away Guaranteed Dysfunction Guaranteed Bullpen Blowup Guaranteed Matt Albers Appearance Guaranteed Parking Profits Ok...all of you are beyond ridiculous. If this were 2005 and the White Sox were winning, no one would care. The reality is this gives money to keep the stadium nice, making it a more attractive place to watch the game, while also providing the Sox with some additional revenue opportunities (other cell deals + the fact that as part of this they inked a separate deal with Guaranteed Rate). And you know what, none of you have to call it anything other then Sox park or Comiskey. You can call it whatever you want. This deal has absolutely zero correlation with the White Sox current track record / on field performance and if anything, should give some slight positives in the sense that they should have some additional revenue that could actually go to the club payroll as a result of this. No fan is not going to go because of the stadium name, etc, and no player is going to play worse because there is a downward arrow on a sponsor's logo (and if they are creative they can tie it into some marketing, where Sox pitchers ERA's continue to trend lower..just like the rates you can get on your next mortgage from Guaranteed rate. I realize the Sox suck, but all of your a bunch of overreacting whiners who would whine about anything vs. focusing on whining about what matters (the product ON the field).

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) That was both Enis and Benson, back when a top 5 pick was paid like a starting running back. Both of them had a lot less leverage than Bosa though and the Bears weren't being nearly as petty. With Benson, there was a difference I think vs. the Enis negotiation (where with Enis I think we truly were made out to be the bad guys where I never really remember that with the Benson negotiation).

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) They aren't allowed to trade him. Deadline passed. He'll either sign there or he won't and enter next year's draft and Chargers get nothing in return. Dean Spanos is worth $2 billion and is doing this over offset language. It's a joke. They expect Joey Bosa to take a deal that no other top 5 pick has taken under the new CBA. I didn't realize you couldn't trade first round picks later (when they were unsigned)...although makes sense cause I can't remember it happening (at least not recently...thought it happened a bit back in the days where holdouts were far more common). Chargers have always done this, reminds me of the Bears back in the 90's where they had a similar type of issue where they were making a hardline stance (it might have been as part of the Curtis Enis negotiation). I wonder if there are other teams who don't agree to the offset language on principal. Either way, Spanos hasn't made a lot of good decisions recently as it relates to his ownership of the franchise and this is just another one that will look bad amongst players (including how they kicked Weddle to the curb last year).

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) While listening to the radio on the drive home I thought I heard that the CEO of the company's father is a senator from West Virginia. I found that interesting. Yep. I had heard that today. The CEO's response was pretty rough today, that said, she does have a fiduciary duty to her shareholders to maximize profits, so you can't really blame her, it is the system which is broken (she didn't do anything illegal).

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) Where did I make a r*pe joke? All I posted is no one should be surprised that Cubs fans will be making such jokes, since Y2Jimmy seemed so shocked by the mere notion of it. I think his point was who even goes to that level to think of that based upon rate. Yes, it is a one letter switch, but I just don't think of that and just mentioning it / joking about that being a name (not saying you did) is just despicable in my book.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) Yea, rape joke ends now. Take it out of your post if your posted it. You guys are smarter than that Echoed. It ends now. By the way, it is just a stadium name, I find it hilarious at how many people overreact. They can slap whatever name they want on the stadium, you don't have to call it by that name. Just put a good product on the field, that is all I care about.

Would the Chargers trade his rights for future picks? I'm sure there would be teams who would trade for him.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) Last year, my wife had a child with an extremely severe dairy allergy. Luckily it never came up in her classroom, but he carried an EpiPen with him 24/7. You want anyone around the person to be able to administer the medication quickly, accurately and simply, and that just wouldn't happen with a jar of medication and a syringe. We know our son has both a dairy and peanut allergy. He's had both and not had issues breathing, but we have no idea how he might react as he continues to grow, etc (does it get worse, etc). It does swell up really quick though (so it isn't a few spots we are talking about). His allergy levels when we did the tests were very high and well, I'm not going to f*** around with the life of my son, I can tell you that much (especially since if something like that were to ever happen, I pray it doesn't, I know I'd already be nervous as s*** that I wouldn't want to deal with anything other then the quickest and easiest, least likely to screw up injection). I'm not a doctor and I don't deal in typical life / death situations. I also know that based upon this, I will not mess around with keeping an expired product (as I do with Tylenol / aspirin) cause I will be honest, I probably would have (of course my wife would have vetoed it). Crazy part of this is, the market for this product has to be up so much given the increase of food allergies (would really like to know within our environment is causing the increase). And don't tell me it is the whole kids don't play with dirt aspect, cause my son has been allergic since he was a few months old so somehow I don't think that is it (it isn't like he was 5 and using antibacterial his whole life and not able to play outside and then randomly developed some allergy).

Who is guaranteed rate? Mortgage company?

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 12:23 PM) At prices that high, it's amazing some other competitor hasn't swooped in to make a generic brand and completely cut the legs out from under Mylan. edit: according to random internet site, apparently there have been attempts but the FDA is acting as a road block. https://mises.org/blog/lack-epipen-competitors-fdas-fault For those prices i'd buy a syringe and some Epinephrine. My niece has severe allergies and I know my sister has used Epipens in the past. She's never complained about the cost though. The reason it isn't syringe and some epinephrine is that you need to actually know how to use the syringe, etc. Evidently it isn't overly cut and dry so you'd have to have each person in the family receive more extensive training which exists (as well as any caregivers / day care / etc). And well, to be frank, I'm not going to risk someone screwing that up vs the simple approach when we are talking about a potential life threatening situation. Not something to mess around with.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) I believe I've read that this one it is specifically patents on the delivery system that make it difficult for generic competition, not the drug itself. That is correct. The injection system is unique vs. the drug and the injection system is critical. You can do it using a standard syringe, but it would require you to receive far more teaching than the injection system that comes with the current unit.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) Yeah that's pretty f***ed up. I wonder, after taking into account insurance adjustments, how much those pens really cost. The stated price and the real price are often dramatically different. I want to say when we got ours through our insurance companies pharmacy it was almost $400 bucks for one two pack (and that was probably 4 months ago).

The stated price and the real price are often dramatically different. As someone who has had to buy some for my 15 month old (hopefully only as a precaution), let me tell you, the first time I payed for the thing, I was in complete and utter shock. Couldn't believe I was paying hundreds of dollars for something that I realistically should have multiple sets of (one at home, one in the cars, etc) and which expire every year. NBC had a special on this yesterday (not as in depth as this article) but ridiculous price gauging.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) I think my wife and I are officially Disney people. We love going there and a big component is planning the trip. We've gone 2 out of the last 3 years with our son who was 2 and then 3. The key is spending 3-5 days at Disney and then going over to a beach town for the remainder of your vacation to relax. Hopefully you had a good time. Too many people read up on the hype/hysteria about how awful Disney is and I just don't get it. Yes, having a screaming 3 year old in the middle of the park sucks. Yes, they are some long ass days. But when your kid freaks out over seeing Mickey or riding Splash Mountain or whatever? Totally worth the hassle. My only rule is when I go to disneyland / world it can't be super hot and I can't go in peak season. As long as I don't have just absurd lines, I think it is a fantastic and fun place to go. It is absolutely a lot of work with the kids but seeing them run around and smile, etc, makes it all worth it. Plus, you get to be a kid again too and there is something nostalgic about the place (maybe partly because I grew up near Disneyland so lots of locals had season passes...before disneyland prices went absurd, so had plenty of fun adventures there with friends and kind of relieve that whenever I do go back). I actually think our first real plane trip will be to Disneyworld and I should have a conference there in the winter (I think February so when most schools are back) which might actually be a perfect time. The only hard part would be the leg of the flight my wife would have to do on her own with the little ones.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) I missed this play somehow. Floyd is going to look terrible whenever anyone gets a body on him though, as expected I guess. But when you don't he is going to blow some QB's the hell up. They say Floyd does an excellent job working through bodies / contact (it is why they say he is going to be so good in the ground game). He definitely has things to learn though, technique wise, and being strong would help, but one of the keys is just how fast his he is. There were some good quotes where people have mentioned how he reminds them of Urlacher out there (not as a player) but just in the sense that its the first time since Brian, where we've had a player at the LB position who could move like he did and make an impact in both the passing and rushing attack. I've seen nothing but extremely positives coming out of camp as it relates to Floyd. That said, it is training camp and he's a rookie, but him and White both seem to have extremely good demeanor and a passion to get better (to go along with great skillsets), which to me is huge.

Are stats in rookie leagues predictive?

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 07:20 AM) Back in the day they had a bunch of secondary drafts. I think that's what those were. Not the main June draft. I don't know the history of why those drafts existed or why they were eliminated. I learned something new. I never knew they had "secondary" drafts. One thing I wish baseball brought back was the old "draft and follow". -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 19, 2016 -> 07:33 AM) It's early and injuries always come into play as the season moves on, but the Packers defense this year looks really good. First time since they won the Super bowl that I feel like the defense can carry them deep into the playoffs. You mean the roiders?

Nice job by the first team unit. I continue to expect that the Bears are going to give a ton of money to Jimmy G at the end of the year (or at least try to). We shall see how he handles this four regular season games. He has a chance to make a lot of money.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) Will I be banned if I start calling him, 'Trump the Chump?" Anyhow ... think it'll matter that he's now reading his speeches that are written for him? I say, negatory. If he stuck on point and didn't worry so much about trying to pump up the crowd (who he already has voting for him), he'd at least not get embarrassed. It's sad cause Clinton is so terrible and corrupt.
