  1. LaRoche's full statement. Extremely classy, imo.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) One of the worst I've seen in that situation What call are you referring to?
  3. Looking at schedules, I'm expecting Bulls to win 6 straight.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) USC was only an 8 seed and Cal's best player got hurt, so I don't think that rises to the level of Purdue, MSU and potentially Iowa all losing. Plus Oregon State. Utah thus far is only team in PAC to have won (going off memory). Oregon still has to play. Big ten now has three teams who should advance (unless MD chokes). Pac: Losses - Colorado, USC, Oregon State, Arizona, Cal Wins: Utah TBD: Oregon
  5. Hell yeah!!! Deserved it after that terrible 3 point foul that led to OT.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Purdue chokes, MSU chokes, Iowa chokes . . . I'm sensing a theme. Same thing in Pac 10...USC chokes, Arizona chokes, Cal chokes.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Purdue chokes, MSU chokes, Iowa chokes . . . I'm sensing a theme. That was such a horrible call on that 3 pointer that should have ended the game. Now I have to hope Iowa pulls it out in OT and given how they finished the season, I'm fearing they just get romped here.
  8. Oh god...what a choke by Iowa. Please miss one of these free throws Temple. On the blurred replay, awful call.
  9. Here is an alternative thought, if KW went around RH and created this hellstorm, who is to say Rick Hahn doesn't resign if Kenny isn't fired as he is tired / frustrated of having his hands tied and truly building the team he wants to be able to build.
  10. Honestly, I don't understand how it can be LaRoche. Its been widely reported he was given permission to bring his son to the clubhouse, potentially as part of the pitch to come here. He than made the decision that being with his son was more important than playing. Yes, he was directly involved in this whole piece, but nowhere did he do anything wrong. You can whine about him potentially leaking or telling people a story, but Sale / Eaton speaking there piece has nothing to do with LaRoche and it seems everything to do with how Kenny directed this. I might not agree with LaRoche's beliefs on how to raise a kid, but his wanting to be with his kid is certainly better than the alternative (being a dead beat dad) and it was entirely his right to make the decision he did. On the flipside, if KW unilaterally did this, while he's the president, I don't really think it is within his right.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) Maybe JR should have had these discussions before KW took action. The question to me is whether KW and JR talked before this happened and who KW discussed things with. If he gets canned, it should be because he didn't run it by the right parties. If he doesn't get canned, it should be because he ran it by all the right parties and everyone was on board but they internally decided Kenny should be the one who ultimately took the heat and was the "bad" guy. No idea what actually happened.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:39 AM) He sounds a lot less crazy with the entire transcript. I had those exact thoughts myself. And JR should bring some levity to the situation. If KW didn't run it by JR and blamed the owner, I'll be curious whether JR takes the bullet for KW or if KW is sent packing.
  13. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) I don't know why everyone is ripping Sale or even Eaton. Sale is doing exactly what you want a leader of the clubhouse to do, bring the team together and stick up for family. KW appears to be a complete ass and has cause this entire situaltion. It even appears he manipulated the situation to his liking by tell the players the coaches had a problem with Drake, telling the coaches players had a problem with him, and telling everyone that this decision came from the owner. Sale better damn make some waves bc of this and he is 100% correct that is should have been KW walking of the locker room and not LaRoche. Their is a time and a place and a way to handle things. What happens within a clubhouse is supposed to stay within a clubhouse. Instead, everything is being dealt with via the press. It is pathetic and embarrassing. It isn't often that I give Kenny credit for how he handles something with the media, but his approach and tact was solid. How he handled it with the players, who knows, none of us were there and none of us know all the circumstances. But Eaton and Sale should be dealing with this internally, not externally. And if Rollins / Avilla had complained about it and are backing / hiding behind it, than they aren't the type of leaders the club thought they were. I think the problem is, no one wants to get painted as "anti" family but the reality is no one was making that this situation. LaRoche was 100% entitled to walk away. Kenny should have been 100% entitled to tell LaRoche to limit the time, however, it also would have been better for those closer to the situation or even the players to handle matters. Sox also created this mess by allowing the situation to happen a year ago and to the extent they verbally gave a player his word, well, than I think it is pathetic that they backed away from it (regardless of the situation and if they had given him the word, than I think it would have been more important for the matter to be handled amongst the players, case closed).
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) Eaton is also saying the team is united regarding this. It's other media saying there has to be divide because at least Jimmy Rollins complained, and apparently had back up. To be fair, no player is openly going to come out and say something. Any of that will be handled behind closed doors and the reality is this team lacked real leadership the past few years and the people who have been most vocal, while they might represent some of our best players, they don't represent our real leaders, imo.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) You of all posters would have a totally opposite opinion if this made a player who has been productive walk away. Sale was sticking up for his teammate. In the clubhouse, which supposedly "belongs" to the players. With all complaining you have done about LaRoche, why do you have to be derogatory towards him for quitting? You should be thrilled. I don't think the Sox acted wrong (with the exception of any promises they may or may not have made prior to signing Adam as those really aren't promises that you can / should make to a player as the clubhouse is dynamic and belongs to the player). I'd also say allowing for that probably isn't a wise decision anyway as there is a time and a place for family and there is a time and a place to be professional and have that closed clubhouse. I also don't have any issue with LaRoche retiring, he's 100% entitled to it. I don't think he should drag it through the media, but I don't necessarily think he did. I think others had an issue with it and some players on the club were clearly tight with him and Duke and have made it an issue. I'd argue it is admirable for them to stick up, but also looking at the guys who are sticking up, they tend to be the more over-reactionary hot-heads vs. the true leaders.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 06:26 AM) Today is the day LaRoche is supposed to make it official. If he really wanted to make this a circus, he would change his mind. I'm thinking there is no chance of that. Duquette and Bowden both said on MLB radio this morning that LaRoche's stance is absolutely ridiculous and there is absolutely no place for a kid to be around the lockeroom all the time. During the show prior to Duquette and Bowden the stances were nearly identical and even alluded to the fact that in Washington, where LaRoche's son was allowed to be on the stadium most of the time, the lockeroom was off limits for kids after BP, so basically there was a family time for players and there kids and business time. The earlier show (can't remember who the hosts were) did mention that LaRoche's camp seems to be reporting that Ventura / Hahn used it as a marketing ploy to get Adam to sign with the club though, that said, they all felt that it was absolutely absurd to have in the clubhouse and that the Sox shouldn't have made any direct statements to that like (because reality is clubhouse dynamics change). Boone was on ESPN and had a similar stance as the above, except he went one farther saying he knew that there were rules when him and his brother were around his dad and even asked questions when he was traded as to what it would be like. It really sounds like what the White Sox allowed last year was a total outlier in all of baseball and while last years dynamics allowed for it, it is becoming more apparent that this years team had at least some people who weren't behind it and supportive of it and thus the Sox had to make a move. The problem really is in what the Sox allowed to begin with (however you can't blame them for eventually making the right call...with the exception of if they did actually verbally tell LaRoche it was fine and it was part of him signing here).
  17. Maryland, MSU, Oklahoma, North Carolina. MSU vs. OU with OU winning it all.

    Having a baby

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) Hey, wanted to update this. We hit 12 weeks today. Going to be a dad Congrats!!!
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) If Jimmy Rollins went to KW and moaned, and then said this http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0315-story.html he is not a leader. A leader would cop to what he did and explain it to everyone. I don't see where anything Jimmy said was wrong. He just said that he loves his family. It is LaRoche's right to walk away from the family and it is the Sox right to depict what the rules of the clubhouse should be. That said, if the Sox agreed to these terms prior to LaRoche signing, than they need and should live with those terms. Additionally, even if they didn't, it would appear that this was handed as an edict from the top and might not have had the right communication and was handled poorly.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) KW really is falling on the sword Jeff PassanVerified account ‏@JeffPassan 5m5 minutes ago After GM Rick Hahn and manager Robin Ventura OK'd Drake LaRoche's presence, for Williams to unilaterally say otherwise set the players off. If the GM and Manager were on board with it, than while I realize Williams is ultimately the president, but he should be canned in my opinion for going around the people who are much closer to the situations backs. This also might be Kenny telling Rick and Ventura that look, we all agree, but I absolutely need to be the bad guy because the reality is, you two have to work with the players a lot more regularly than I do.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) Then, at some point, the team decided that the arrangement wasn't working and tried to change it. The White Sox do have the ability to change their minds occasionally if they feel it is prudent. Yeah...I can't get on this argument. If the Sox told him, before he signed, that it was okay for his son to be there as much as he'd like him, than I think they made there bed. To change, yes, they are entitled to it, but it looks poorly and is essentially a flat out lie.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) Ugh. Please no. Please surprise me and totally redeem the franchise (after that awful 4th one).
