QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Yeah, that hasn't changed at all since the bubble burst. Now the appraisal process is entirely different. If I recall, banks don't even know who is going to get the appraisal. Used to be you could really influence process. Might still happen a bit but it is more of a lottery at this point. Much more segregated then previously and in our area it is actually very common that appraisals come back failing (due to some skyrocketing prices over the past 1-2 years).

QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) This would be awesome if this is the case but I don't think anyone has really seen enough of him to make that proclamation. What has he really done so far other than not get exploited out there like the past decade of Bear Safeties? I am seriously asking because maybe he has done more than I have seen. He's getting a lot of love. Shea has also gotten a lot of love from the analytical peeps (on an unrelated note). Amos though is legitimately playing like one of the top 10 players at his position. He needs to take steps forward though and our defense needs to start making plays. We lack a consistent pass rush and partially due to that (also largely due to a craptacular secondary), lack turnovers / big plays. However, add an impact FA and ideally an impact draft pick or two (along with other guys taking steps forward) and that could change relatively quickly. Porter is the one corner we have who seems to make plays. Ball is awful and it makes me sad everytime I see him cause I think of how we could have Peanut, who would just be a great vet to have around these kids. Not saying Peanut is good at this point (he did have a pick last week), but he is arguably my favorite defensive player in franchise history.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) Then again I feel the same way about the Dem primary. I honestly, would rather vote for Hillary then Trump or Carson. In reality, I'd vote independent (or write-in one of the other republicans who I did like) because I do agree, I don't like anything I hear from the democrat side, but that is more a fundamental disagreement with their policies. When it comes to Trump / Carson, I not only disagree with their poppycock, but I have extreme concern over just their general ability to run this country (Carson) and in Trump's case, I have a general fear that he could blow up the world (seriously...I have no idea how he'll handle / manage foreign affairs). I think Trump probably has an excellent ability to get advice / listen to his advisors (would presume he has to given where he is and what he's done)...in the case of Carson, no way....all those skills would be totally learned on the job.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) This is the base that the Republican party has cultivated over the years. I don't think a lot of these voters are coming from the "base" per say. I do think it is more a statement against the establishment vs. anything else. And I think to some extent, the same thing exists in the democratic party from all the Bernie Backers. Now if the republicans actually nominate Carson or Trump, well then I will change my tune and I'll personally vote independent. However, I still think at this point, the nomination is Rubio's to lose.

Funny since I commented about him earlier today. At least he's working on getting stronger, haha.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) I can appreciate the sentiment, but you guys are getting excited about beating/losing closely to bad teams. Actual playoff teams they've been pretty non-competitive. I mean, sure, they're not getting crushed like the pats/packers games like last year, but that's when the franchise basically bottomed out. Actual playoff games. I don't count the Seahawks game cause it was with Pickles at the helm. Against Arizona, prior to Pickles going out, we were right in the game. We were winning in the 2nd half against the Packers. We beat the Chiefs (who are widely considered one of the better teams with a losing record)...Raiders have played pretty solid this year and that was a quality win as well. Vikings are a playoff team if the season ended (and should have beat them). Lions are bad and it was a bad loss (our defense still isn't very good...no one would argue with you on that). Last year, while the record might have been similar, we were getting absolutely destroyed. This team is clearly playing significantly better and headed in the right direction and we have multiple new pieces on defense that look like potential building blocks, plus cap space and more draft picks this year. This thing wasn't going to happen overnight but a lot of positives thus far in the process.

The Chargers are a few points from having a very good record. They were beat up and we should have beaten them by double-digits, but they aren't terrible and they have Phillip Rivers who is better then most QB's in this league and is on pace to throw for 5500 yards (or was entering last night).

QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) I was thinking this morning if Fox's gameplan even allows for them to blow a team out on their best day. It seems like he has resigned to having every game be close but what he has to give up is no complete dominance even when they are at their absolute best. I know that isnt the case but it sure as hell seems like it. I think while he'll always be conservative, he's extra conservative given our overall defensive personal. By the way, I think the way we run our offense, just wears teams down late and long-term should work out to help us win a lot of close games. I also think it will work well in the elements as well. I like the fact that we are trying to bring back the physicality. The Chargers had no chance to stop us in that fourth quarter. We were going to move the ball and move the chains and make them work. I can't figure out how we haven't gotten a 3rd down TD though. That has got to change.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) I agree that those two stories are more significant, to me, than the West Point one for example. Honestly, I am starting to think he may not just be arrogant. He may be sociopathic. Then again, I remember reading a paper in college that came to the conclusion that most Presidents' egos were so large that they were all borderline sociopaths anyway. Every time I hear Carson (and Trump for that matter), I think, how in the hell is this guy leading the primary.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) It is hard for me to be upset about the losses to Minnesota and Detroit because while those were winnable and would have put the Bears in the playoff hunt they clearly aren't a team capable of winning the Super Bowl or making noise in the playoffs. Plus, they just as easily could have lost all 3 games to the Raiders, Chiefs and Chargers so 3-5 is probably about right for this team. 5-3 was doable based on how they played but they could also easily be 0-8. Completely agree. That said, I think we are a better team then the Lions and I actually think we are as good as the Vikings (who I think are overrated, mainly because I think their offense is still pretty poor...defense is good). However, I'm not a believer of rooting for a team to lose in football. I think it is important to win games and build a winning culture. So I would hate it if we lost like 8 straight games to get the top pick. I'd rather win and be competitive and start building that culture and get a pick in the 7-12 range, which is probably where we will end up (if I were to guess). The only potential exception would be if an "Andrew" Luck were available or if you are only winning because you have cruddy veterans who aren't even going to be around in a year. When you are winning because your young players and core pieces are making strides, it is a great thing, imo.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) A makeshift offensive line has been a consistent trend with the Bears in recent years. They can't seem to keep a line group healthy long enough to get some cohesion. This one has been a hell of a lot more productive then others. Part of that is scheme and I think Jay deserves a lot of credit their as well. He's been fantastic under pressure and just having strong pocket awareness, which historically has been a mega weakness of his. No idea if this sticks long-term or if it is just a small sample size, but Jay has been ascending thus far in the season and I sure as s*** hope it continues.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) Jesus you people can drink the kool-aid with the best of them. I never said we were a superbowl team (presume you are talking about my post). I think our defense is awful (don't care what the stats say) but we are scheming well and are making major improvements. We also have seen very nice strides out of 3 late round picks (Leno - Last year 7th rounder, Langford, and Amos) while our 2nd round pick has looked solid (still don't know where he stands but he isn't an immediate bust like Bostic or Greene). Our C (3rd round pick) is hurt and the book is fully out on him. And I couldn't even tell you what our 6th rounder is doing. We obviously have no idea about White, but it seems like we found some players in the later round, which is huge. While I'm pissed we lost 2 of the games we did, I couldn't be more pleased with the direction of this franchise. The fact that Jay is making strides is also great because it buys the front office time to find a QB. I don't want to find myself in QB hell like some teams find themselves in. I'm not saying Jay is great and I think the great think with this front office is, they can keep Jay for a couple years while still aggressively targeting the next QB of the franchise.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:48 AM) He's a good offensive tactician. The problem is, he has a team that was essentially built by Thibs, the Rose/Butler problem is a reality, and health continues to be a problem. There's a ton of talent on the Bulls, but they just aren't much of a team. Hoiberg does look like a pretty good coach so far. I still think all of these statements, other then their is talent on the team, are incredibly premature. They could very well be true, but coming to any of the conclusions you made based upon the current sample size is just extremely premature.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Yeah while I've liked some of Gase's game plans I have a hard time believing anyone is watching the offense (which has loads more talent than the defense) and is like "yes he is great". Despite having gigantic targets like bennett, wilson and alshon, we somehow cannot convert in the red zone. Alshon was out for half of the games. Our oline has been totally megshift. We haven't had Royal often. And lets not act like Wilson is a star. Yes, we clearly need to improve in the red zone, but we are effectively moving the ball. In fact, a lot of the times we haven't done things, it hasn't been the play call as much as it has been the lack of execution and I expect with more time that will get better. Of course after 1 year of Trestman we thought the same thing, however, evidently he couldn't make adjustments and once teams got game film on the Trestman offense, we were toast. I hope the same doesn't hold true with Gase. It certainly seems like we do a lot of things, but it will be interesting how effective our screen game will remain. That said, the more people get film, the more you can build other nuances to burn people other ways (I hope). Jay certainly looks comfortable out their. Comfortable with his read of the blocking schemes, picking up blitzes and hitting the right spot. Curious on the pick what happened. If it was a bad throw or miscommunication or what. Either way, that can't happen. On the sack and fumble, I can't really fault Jay. He got crushed in a hurry and I was curious why a penalty for helmet to helmet wasn't called on the fumble. Our penalties on the oline have been tough to handle though.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 07:37 AM) They've definitely had struggles in the red zone, and they of course had Clausen play in 6+ of those quarters. They didn't have Alshon in half of those games. Honestly, Gase isn't going anywhere after this year. The massive key in all of this is that Cutler looks as comfortable as he ever has in a Bears uniform. As the Bears continue to build, including White eventually coming back, they have the makings for something solid here, if you ask me. I don't know...all depends on where we go. If Jay keeps taking steps forward, given gase's previous track record with the Broncos, he's getting a job. It also helps that we won't be a playoff team so teams can start interviewing him very early in the process.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 5, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) Fair or unfair, the same accusation has followed Big Ben, Kobe Bryant. It will be interesting to see what the NHL or Blackhawks do. They probably don't need to do anything and they probably shouldn't have him miss games, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Blackhawks would want Kane to seek some kind of treatment. I don't think it has really followed Kobe much. Big Ben yes, but it wasn't ben's first instance. With Kobe, it was very clear what it was (cash play) and other then being a perceived ass on the court, their have never been any off the court issues with him. Kane has had previous off the court issues (of course none to the extent of this one) and Big Ben is a guy I truly believe the accusations made. Wasn't it 3 separate potential cases with Ben. Ben is a total slimeball scumbag in my eyes.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 5, 2015 -> 12:21 PM) Do you really buy it? I'm iffy. I would think if you really had double vision like that you'd be suffering from nausea and vertigo/balance issues. I don't think I couldn't stand walking around the house, let alone playing professional basketball. If that is the case, then it truly is a damn if you do, damn if you don't. I already feel like with all the griping / hard time everyone is giving him for his performance, its basically like, saying, we made fun of you for not playing soon enough, now you just suck (cause you came back too early). I give Rose a lot of credit for coming back from his last two injuries relatively on time. Even the fact that he was willing to start the year coming off of the bench. Problem is, Bulls front office totally screwed up by continuing to ignore the PG position. Our backups are brutal and when you have Rose playing with one eye (who is also brutal), we are just in a bad spot. This team has to find a way to find a good passing point guard who can play a bit with rose (who isn't the best passing point guard anyway) and help when Rose is out.
