  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) I would recommend punching your own face. That isn't even as bad as having to watch a Tyler Perry movie. Wow, awful, awful Jeffrey.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) Any Internal Audit work? We dont' have any internal audit department, we basically pay KPMG big bucks to do that and they do quite the s***ty job at that. If you want to move into the private accounting side I'm pretty sure we can find something. A couple acquisitions are on the way which will create more opportunities.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) Hudson plays 2B and leads off? OF consists of Q, Rios and Teahen. Not great, but not terrible if you are just trying to put a team on the field to support your good pitching. We still need a DH, preferably left handed and a pen arm or two. Plus you have some guys who could break-out and you just hit enough to contend, at the deadline make a move for a bigger bat to hopefully put you over the top. If the Sox go with Teahen/Hudson, could they get into the bidding and make a move for Manny Ramirez? Dodgers would probably pay a good chunk of cash so they could address other needs (pitching) and Sox wouldn't have to give up a lot prospect wise for a year of Manny. Not sure if I'd do it and probably not a realistic possibility.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) The Sox will be going after one of the 2nd basemen in the FA market. Nix will be the back-up again, and Teahen will be playing RF for the Sox next year. I think Orlando Hudson is the likely 2nd baseman for the Sox next year. I still think Konerko goes. Or that the Sox make a push to move him this year.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Clearly they saw the need to add more versatility and also a bigger LH bat than Getz. I think we are looking at a Dye for 2 players scenario salary-wise. Right now we have I believe 74 million committed for next season? He's entering his prime so he clearly could break out and be a 20HR guy with a lot of doubles. He's a very good base-runner. I see potential in this deal, but I think its a little risky. Not that I think Getz will ever be a super-star and Fields I could care less about (I wish him nothing but the best of luck elsewhere, but he'll never amount to anything in Chicago so KC is a good place for him). I have to think we get at least a M. You also have to remember we had a serious void from the left side of the plate. Mark should help that void.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) God, i hope it's the 1st. If we really moved a good kid like Getz, because Dye took issue with some generic, young comment of his then i've lost a lot of respect for this organization. I completely agree with you. It says a lot that Retherford was sent to the AFL.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Trade is done. Cash is coming over from KC. Ok, this makes me a bit happier. If we get a mill or two, I'm ok with the move cause it really gives Kenny the flexibility to make some interesting moves. I also wonder if Retherford has really opened the org's eyes to the point that it made Getz a bit more expendable. Or was Getz moved because of the stuff said in that Gonzalez interview.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) I was told by a family friend of Dye's this morning that his first choice is to go play for Ron Washington and Texas. His first choice is to stay with the Sox, but he knows that isn't in the plans. So after that Ron Washington makes the most sense. He likes him from his days with the A's and well, Texas is a pretty damn good place to hit.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) Considerin Teahen's salary is not that much and is predictable over the next 2 years, I think KW has seen that he can have 2 players at the cost of Jermaine Dye and will sign either another pen arm, a Cuban player or will use that cost savings to make a free agent signing of a middle of the road or 2 year player at DH. Teahen and Kotsay have basically every backup position covered outside of 2, and we really need a LHP out of the pen. Buddy Bell must be on board on this deal. Teahen has the tools, so I just hope it works out.
  10. The more I think about this deal, the more I like it (from a Sox perspective). Gomez is the type of guy that will develop to someone that will be a thorn in our side, imo. I realize he was benched for a chunk of last year, but he's got tools and I love tools. Hardy can hit for power, but is coming of a down year and is a butcher with the glove. Twins are taking a chance, but he'll really hurt there team D and this really is a non-Twins like move. I'm very curious to see how this works out for each team. Brewers clearly didn't have a need for Hardy with Escobar being there future at SS.
  11. I like the trade from the Twins perspect, however, I think in time Gomez is going to turn into a very good player, one who might be more valuable than Hardy in time, but thats a big iff and the Brewers are buying low (than again, so are the Twins). However, Hardy hits very well and the Twins could use some more offensive guys to go around Mauer/Morneau. I'm not going to lie and I know most people dont' like Gomez and think he's over-rated, but I'd be all about getting him from the Brewers (although it looks like they will be penciling him into CF hoping he gets his s*** together). Long term I think he's going to be a good leadoff hitter who plays a plus defensive CF.
  12. This was just a formality. The Sox still have a window where they can bring back Dye at a discounted rate. The problem is at one point they'd have to offer him aribtration to continue negotiating with him (or at least I believe thats the case). Or am I mistaken?
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) f***, I'm about to. And on the no promotion thing, it sounds like its coming to an end....with me getting a promotion. At least thats what HR told me this week, although I dont' think it becomes official for another month or two. Interviewing another candidate to be my staff later on this week (brought in one already). Its pretty fun being on the interviewing side of things.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Only 7 times since 1960 has a White Sox starting 1B put up an OPS+ of 99 or lower. Only 18 times since 2000 has a starting AL 1B posted an OPS+ under 100. Mark Teahen has been in the 90's since 2007. He was at 94 last year. Oh, I'm not saying its what I'd do, just stating what could be going on for the Sox and this move ultimately gives them flexibility to move Paulie. Basically the Sox end up thinking Paulie's cash and the guy they can get for Paulie, plus Teahan > Getz/Konerko/Fields. I don't know what the plan is and I definitely would tell you that the current version of Teahan isn't an adequate first baseman. I do think Mark has a lot of nice tools, but again, your paying a lot of money for that. I'd love it if he was a bench player who might be able to fight and earn a starting spot, but in this case, we are handing him a starting spot at a productin position which is a little scary, but there is a ton of the off-season left to go. Very odd that nothing has been confirmed or denied at this point. There is definitely smoke to this, but its also definitely not the final deal, imo.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) That definitely wouldn't be progress. Depends on what they do with the money. Add a nice bat plus reliever and it could make a lot of sense.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) I am not surprised with the PK trade talk, but, I fail to see what it has to do with this trade. Teahen can play first base so you can trade Paulie and not have to be overly concerned with filling the hole at first.
  17. Phil Rogers is commenting that the deal allows the Sox to potentially explore a Konerko trade, which would than free up payroll to make a FA splash. An unnamed scout is indicating that the Sox are likely going to get cash.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) No, but they can send you notification of the change in your terms and unless you respond by X day it'll change and you'll be stuck. No different than what banks and credit cards do, and there's a high likelyhood that you'll either never see the notification (stuck in like an ad with your bill) or you'll just toss it out of habit. As far as the phone debate, this is like the argument of Zune vs the Ipod. No matter what features the Zune tries to throw at you, in the end it's just a waste because of the foundation the Ipod has laid. The App Store is a good example of that. Iphone will reign supreme just like it continues to reign supreme in mp3 players. That's coming from a guy that hates nearly everything Apple too. However, Google's power is > Apple's and the programming on the Google side is supposed to be legit. I think thats the big difference in these new android based phones and I think it is why we'll see them put a dent in Apple. I also think the Blackberry does a pretty f***ing good job too.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) I'm about to opt out of my verizon contract. There's a report that on Nov. 15th Verizon will be making contract cancellations $350 instead of $175. They can't retroactively change the cancellation policy terms on your existing contract.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Stop with the fictitious posts. No one is hiring anywhere. If anyone wants an accounting gig, I've gotten like 5 peeps hired at my place the past few months. Just have to move to Cali, haha.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) I always called these middle class baby insurance. You pay in by attending everyone's, then collect when you have a wedding, baby, etc. Usually it's their closest friends that want to throw the shower(s). But yeah, if they are doing it, it's greedy. If it is their friends, then decide how close of a friend you are. The reality is if you don't really like the person or they aren't that great of a friend, there is nothing wrong without going. To be honest I've been super narrow on the invites to keep our guest count down. We are still expecting about 200 cause the family is massive, but there is nothing wrong with saying no or declining. And the showers are usually seperate from the wedding and I think if you do both, you should factor it in and basically spend what you would have on one gift and either just give the gift at the shower or just give them two smaller gifts. Me, I'd be fine going to city hall and getting married. The wifey and her family, not so much, haha.
  22. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) So, I've got a ton of weddings coming up. People who are in their upper twenties and lived on their own for the past 5-7 years. Or lived with their future spouse. And I know this will sound petty, but do people in that age range really need engagement parties, showers AND then gifts at the wedding? Seriously? How many sets of dishes do you need? How many linen table cloths? How many board games and vacuum bags? I understand the whole wedding shower thing from when people were moving straight from their parents into their own household, but now? When I have friends that buy a house, have a house warming party, then get engaged, have an engagement party, a shower, and then a wedding. Come on. That's just f***ing greedy. However, I don't mind baby showers. Sorry, rant over. Given that I'm going through this process now and obviously depending on the couple, I kind of understand it. Weddings cost a lot and if you are self financing it so I really don't think the greed is an aspect. I know for me, now that I am seeing what a wedding costs, etc, I am much more giving for the weddings I do go to. Of course I would feel differently if these are people whose families are paying for the whole thing. And since I'm marrying an Asian girl we'll be getting lots of cash which is key cause it will help off-set our costs since we are self-funding the whole damn thing for the most part. Oh and I personally can vouch that any gift I get, if I'm not using it regularly, its getting returned and I'm not about to register for a zillion dishes and s*** that I'll never use.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) I said a masters in FINANCE, which will often involve working in accounting, but still give you flexibility. Not a masters IN accounting, which I agree is too narrow. No I was just adding my two cents on a masters in accounting in case anyone for whatever reason was thinking of getting it. I still think a Masters in Finance is a bad play compared to just going for the MBA, but I'm sure there are plenty of situations where the Masters in Finance works too. Just depends on the person and the need. I just think the MBA is much broader and better suited long-term, but its also very important to get it from a Tier 1 school or at least a higher Tier 2 school (especially in this economy). Otherwise the benefits of the MBA are minimal.
  24. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) This has to be a done deal. No way KW would let two kids stew in their own juices for this long without there being something to it. I don't believe that the deal in its current state could be done. I just don't believe it.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Is it true that the Mark Gonzalez interview had something about the vets being pissed at Getz for talking about the energy of the younger guys? I don't see that as a problematic statement, but... given that we heard that Dye and Konerko got pissed at Swish and O-Cab for being vocal, there might be something to that, but still i hate conspiracy theories and Dye is as good as gone anyway. Yep. In this instance though I was really hoping the Sox realized that the vets were in the wrong and that this team needed more guys like Getz. Ozzie certainly liked Getz and I definitely did too. He was the type of guy you need. And by no means am I saying Getz is a star, just that I liked his intangibles and the tools and thought he had the ability to be a .300 hitter with a .360 or so OBP, solid D, and 30+ steals and some good base-running.
