  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) It's not all that realistic but Trading for Gonzalez then turning around and dumping Konerko for little (saving $12M) then signing a Vlad to be the full time DH would be a coup. You'd be paying those two combined less than just Konerko. Now THAT would be a dangerous lineup and allow for some financial flexibility, I just don't think moving Konerko's contract is all that realistic at this point in time. If you get Gonzalez you almost have to move Konerko, he's worth about half of his $12M salary as a designated hitter, it's not very hard to find production similar to Konerko's in the DH spot. I know it is not 100% likely that we'd be able to move Paulie, but I still think teams value his overall package enough to be willing to make a move for Konerko. I could be 1000% wrong though, but even if the Sox had to throw in some cash, it would make a whole hell of a lot of sense. Getting Gonzalez would give the Sox so many options. I realize we'd lack a true-leadoff hitter, but could you imagine a middle part of the order with Beckham/Gonzalez/Quentin/Vladdy. I'd actually consider having Quentin in the #2 spot for his OBP ability with Beckham leading off followed by Gonzalez/Vladdy/AJ/Teahen/etc
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) Realistically, if they get Gonzalez, Konerko could move to DH for his last year, and you are pretty well set, except for needing one more OF who can lead off. The pen needs some work to, at least to replace Dotel. The nice part is Konerko's contract comes off the books at a time where you'll be needing to throw some coin Adrian's way (if you want to keep him), plus Buehrle's would be coming off the books as well. So the Sox would be okay financially, imo. Especially if they could get some cost-certainty in Danks (since they have it in Floyd) and maybe Quentin. I do think they would try to move Konerko though if they got Gonzalez for financial reasons. But with Konerko in the 6th spot of a lineup that isn't a bad thing. I'd rather move Konerko to a team, even if it was for payroll relief and go with a guy like Vladdy as my DH though, cause it might give the Sox just the leftover money they need to work a Danks extension into the budget as well as have the flexibility to pick up a reliever.
  3. Why trade Votto when you could package Alonso for someone. Or Package Alonso with others. It isn't like Votto is about to become a FA.
  4. QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) I read on espn about a trade possibilty Jenks to cubs for bradley with the cubs eating part of bradley's contract . Whoever suggested that should get fired on the spot. Why would a team trade a guy like Jenks, whose there closer and historically a very good one, for a guy with an albatross of a contract whose a glorified DH, coming off a horrendous year and who has attitude problems. Oh and I forgot to mention, if the Sox wanted to, they could just opt to let Jenks go. And they won't do that this year, but that would be a better choice than trading for Bradley.
  5. It would only make sense for the Sox to look at Gonzalez. If they acquired him I'd expect other changes to follow (ie, Paulie and some other guys) but he's the type of bad you find a way to get. High impact player. If we could make the deal without giving up any of our every-day parts it would be a tremendous move. I'd even consider a deal built around Alexei Ramirez in the case of Adrian Gonzalez. A Hudson/Ramirez package would work for me. Or a Hudson, Viciedo, Danks package if that is what interests the Pads. I don't know if that is ultimately enough, but we are talking about a legitimate potential MVP bat.
  6. I absolutely love the idea of Joey Votto. However, I continue to state that I will not trade Danks/Floyd. They are just to important to the long-term and current future of this club. I would consider giving up most of our minor leaguers for a guy like Votto but I doubt that deal would have much interest in the Reds.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) The Orphanage was really good--but it carried a lot more of an emotional kick than most scary type movies. Highly recommended though. Sorry this is so late. No problemo...I ended up going with that one and we both really really enjoyed it. Definitely moer in the pyschological thriller than a pop up and scare you movie, but it was creepy and I enjoyed how the ending tied everything up.
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 07:21 AM) That trade is only unlikely because it would be one of Kenny's biggest steals in his history as a general manager. A more accurate deal would be Paulie to the Mets for basically nothing, or Paulie + cash to the Mets for Murphy. Clearing $12M off the payroll while adding that much talent in return for a player like Paulie is a pipedream. It was Paulie and Jenks I believe.
  9. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) They did the exact same thing with Gio. They knew how to get the most out of him, and didn't want to expose him by moving him up the organization, killing his value. I still say they will not be moving Hudson unless he's packaged with other high priced players. Otherwise he isn't going anywhere. Even than I find it highly unlikely since Garcia has only thrown a very limited amount of innings the past 3 seasons and it would be very foolish to count on him for 180 innings, let alone 200. And without Hudson, the Sox don't really have any starting pitcher waiting in the wings, that could step in and replace Garcia.
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Because of the payroll restrictions this team seems to be under, I'll be mildly surprised if Hudson is part of this organization in April. If used correctly in a trade, I have no objections to that either. I'm not sure I follow. I'd be surprised if we did trade Hudson since he is a cheap player and fits into our long-term budget and future. I understand if we trade him for another top prospect or highly thought of player at another position but I don't think that necessarily solves much of anything because its an unproven for an unproven trade. We won't trade Hudson for a proven veteran as 99% of the time that means the club adds payroll and to do that it would mean the club had already traded guys like Paulie/Jenks/Linebrink. So in short, I expect the opposite of what you said to hold true, unless of course Hudson is packaged along with a higher priced player.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 08:19 AM) Sadly, we all know the answer. I really believe Jay Cutler changed the organization and if Jay isn't happy we will here about it. He's too good of a player to sit around and wait for the org to figure it out. I expect swift changes this off-season if we miss the playoffs and I think Lovie knew damn well that his job was on the line this year and thats why he took over as the DC.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 08:10 AM) Lovie is absoultely getting railed on talk radio so far today...rightfully so... His responses were honest about not knowing what is wrong, but at the same time, its a bad thing when you make 5.5M.
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) As much sense trading Alexei makes, it doesn't. Given his salary over the next two years, he is a tremendously valuable asset to this organization, even with the errors. To go along with that, his value isn't as great to a team like the Red Sox, who are in a whole other hemisphere in terms of payroll restrictions. For an Ellsbury and a power arm for the pen it makes a bit more sense, imo. I think there could be some legitimacy to the idea of a Ramirez and Jenks for Ellsbury and a power arm or two.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) Good post except for this. Crisp is another outfield hack with a very weak arm. He has very good range in the outfield and plays very good defense. He is light-years better than Pods. I'm not saying he's gold glove caliber, but he's a good defensive player.
  15. Overbay would be a nice fit and if the Jays are cutting salary I could see it making sense. I'm not sure if we'd get him for the parties mentioned though.
  16. How big is that 6 point swing from the block field goal looking right now.
  17. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Wow. They just switched NY's coverage from the Bears to the Packers because the game is so bad. They did it out here too.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) Let's just hope that Cutler can somehow manage to make this game entertaining. To be honest...this is where he'll throw picks. He's palyed great and I'll here how much jay sucks from casual fans and dumbasses alike who don't understand that you have no chance when your down 30...what the f*** else are you supposed to do. We need to go for this. Our only chance of a game is getting this converted...a field goal is stupid.
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) A part of me wonders how Lovie leaves the field tonight with a job. ANd this is at home which makes it far worse, imo. You get embarassed like this at home....you lose your job. Two blowouts in three weeks...not good....not good.
  20. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) the bengals game was worse Total picture yes....but defensively this is worse, imo.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) This is my first chance to see the Bears, is the defense really that bad? f*** this, and the special teams coach better review what is a live ball and when to run away. Umm...yes, the D really is this bad. Its one thing if you have one bad game...its another when twice in 3 weeks you get absolutely torched. Troy Aikman on the D: They really really look slow....this is embarassing. I wonder how much longer the game will stay televised for me before it gets switched to another game.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) It is a great example of what the left wing is trying to do at the federal level. The government can't be all things to all people. Trying to do that is going to lead to a collapse. In Cali all they are doing is blaming the last in a long line of people who have made this mess. This didn't just start. Arnold had no chance. There needs to be an entire fresh start in California.
  23. How did Az not get that ball.
  24. Just imagine if Boldin was playing too. We are one of the worse defenses in football. Arizona has ran on us, thrown on us, they've made it look easy.
  25. Time to see how the D responds.......two plays...two first downs. This is really really bad. Angelo secured his job with the Cutler move but the personell we have aren't looking good and quite frankly it might be both Lovie and JA that could lose there jobs this off-season. I know Lovie has a big contract left, but I'm fine to dump him.
