Something to consider on the potential trade front.
Chisoxfn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Yup...........teams are lining up and asking Kenny.........Give me your overpriced and older players.....Lets be real. I didn't say they were going to trade them all...but teams would have interest in all of the above with the major exception of Scott Linebrink. And since the payroll stands with very little wiggle room, I don't see how dealing one of the Sox most productive players for the money is of any benefit. -

QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Good luck with that........ Why don't you tell me who you are going to move Alexei for that changes this team? I'd like to see what your thinking? -

QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) Look.........Im not advocating moving Alexie, but Kenny will make a splash and Alexie is the obvious choice.By the way I think Beckham will be just fine at short. Why is Alexei the obvious choice? Moving him doesn't clear payroll and creates a hole. The Sox aren't able to make any splash by moving Alexei. If they are going to move someone on the 25 man roster, they are going to move someone who has payroll because that is the only way they'll be able to make a splash (by clearing payroll). Buehrle Konerko Jenks Linebrink Those are the guys Kenny is going to look to move and by no means am I saying he will move all of them, but all of those guys would create financial flexibility and (with the exception of Linebrink) help bring back talent as well. I'm not saying I'd trade the above, but given the limitations the Sox have financially to clear the remaining holes, Kenny will have to get creative and he can't get creative unless he moves some of the above. -
White Sox 2009: Jayson Nix SoxNet.net Signed to a minor league contract, not a whole lot was to be expected of Jayson Nix. After losing his starting job with the Rockies just 22 games into the '08 season, Nix was back in AAA and at 26 years old, far from prospect territory. But he may found life and a role with a White Sox, if not another chance to start. Battling Chris Getz in spring training for the starting nod at second, Nix took himself out of the running with a strained quad injury, which landed him on the 15-day disabled list to start the season. Ironically enough, it was...Rest of the Article

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) If you know a fastball is coming, you can hit it as a major league baseball player, well unless your name is Josh Fields. He throws a lot more than just a fastball. And his fastball moves very well. He's got a plus curve and a good to plus change. Stras is the real deal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Between what we traded for Swisher, and what he was billed to be when he arrived here, it is two different stories. And believe me, no one likes Cabrera either. I do. He's not the player he once was, but I had no problem with OC on the Sox. He was solid.
-
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) He had his moments in a Sox uni but overall he did suck, still have no idea why there's a deep hatred for Swish. OCab sucked too yet there isn't the same hatred for him that Swisher inspires in soxtalk... OCab was one of the few Sox that played very well offensively down the stretch to help them get into the playoffs. He rubbed some of the Sox vets the wrong way, but the Twins loved him. Swisher did nothing but suck, sulk, and do blow. Oh ya and he blew too!!!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) Well, for one thing, he was benched for Dewayne Wise. I would have been a little pissed too, if I were him. Even still, the amount of s*** the guy gets goes waaaayy beyond his performance on the field last year. People generally hate this guy. That tells you everything you need to know about Swisher in a Sox uni.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Once it got to 3-2 Fuentes is probably just thinking, this guy really sucks so if I get over a BP fastball Swisher won't do anything with it so just throw a strike. I actually thought Swisher was just gonna keep the bat and his shoulders and hope for a walk.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) I've never felt happier watching Swish fail. Such a POS. Nice job Swish, you really are a great baseball player.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Honestly, who is "good" then? I don't get this. I was thinking about it the other night before this crap with Phillips even came up....why is Tim McCarver "awful"? Why is Steve Phillips? Other than the fact that it makes people feel good or somehow knowledgeable to claim a professional is "awful," what do they say or do that is so bad? And if they are so bad, who is good? I would love to hear... Phillips is actually pretty good as a commentator. He knows how the front offices run and has a lot of inside knowledge from his years of experience running a franchise. He might not have made a great GM, but I think he's an excellent analyst who understands how moves are made and has very good contacts in the game.

QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 05:41 AM) Kenny will make a trade this off-season and the logical and or most likely to be moved are Alexie and Jenks.Im not for moving either guy for the sake of moving them. But if you can get Theo intrested it wouldnt be a bad idea to see what he might offer. IT is not logical to move a cheap shortstop whose under your control for another 4 years before becoming a FA. He's also signed for a very cheap amount for another 2 years. If you move Alexei, you will not be able to replace the production and the Sox don't have guys waiting below who are ready to step in. -

QUOTE (East Side Z @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 05:38 AM) You'd get a LOT more production for less money with Beckham at SS.............And yes he (Alexie)pisses me off with his lackluster play too! Both are cheap and you talk about this production with Beckham at SS, but you also have a guy that would be a below average defensive player (at least in his first year) who doesn't have the defensive tools to be an above average defensive shortstop. Bottom line, I see a lot of people indicating how we can just slide Bekcham over, but our defense would be atrocious if we did that. Ramirez improved drastically all season defensively at shortstop and has the skill-set to be an above average defensive shortstop. Plus, Ramirez has some nice offensive tools and in his 3rd year should be a much more consistent offensive player. I don't see any reason we should be removing him from the lineup. Plus, I'm not exactly sure who the heck we are trying to make room for anyway? Viciedo isn't ready to break camp with the Sox and if he does it won't be to play 3B. He'll play 1st or LF. Retheford might be ready for 2B, but even than, I'd take Ramirez over CJ and Getz so I'm really curious as to why we'd move Ramirez cause I don't see who we'd be making space for? -
QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 05:39 AM) Didn't Getz play several positions in the minors as well? I seem to remember that he even played some outfield. I believe you are correct. Getz has played 2B, SS, 3B, and OF in his minor league career. He actually had 52 starts at short.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) This team looks like it's had a disaster of a training camp. With Rose and the guys they do have, they'll be good enough to win 30+ games, but if Rose misses the first week and takes a while to get back to game shape, then we can pretty much write off the first month+ of the season since there's the circus trip. On top of that, right now Luol Deng looks terrible, and Salmons and Hinrich have been missing practices/games. Noah's had some really solid games in the preseason but has also been inconsistent. Maybe i overstated things a bit, but this training camp has really troubled me. Wasn't Salmons missing practice due to family stuff (wifes pregnancy)? Deng is coming back and improving with each game and is looking better than he did last year. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) People view defense simply as a person got to a ball and booted it or threw it away as an error. Watching Nix he has better reaction time then Getz and thus gets to balls that Getz does not. These are not errors in as much as simply plays that were not made. I give Nix the benefit of the doubt as he was also a rookie and moved around to 5 different positions Getz can only play one. Both need to improve and I think the one that shows the most in spring gets the nod or it is a straight platoon both have weaknesses that make them equally average at this point at best. Getz has played 3B before. Not saying he'd make a good one but if CJ Retheford eventually develops Getz does have the ability to play multiple positions defensively and thus move into a utility role (not saying he'd be a plus defender at multiple positions, more that he's capable of doing it).

The Sox will look at moving the following guys (not saying they will) because ultimately to do some more re-tooling of the lineup salary needs to be moved and these are the guys that I think they look at or even consider (although Buehrle is a clear long-shot). In no way am I saying they have to move these guys: Bobby Jenks Paul Konerko Scott Linebrink Mark Buehrle

Very impressive.

White Sox show interest in Aroldis Chapman...

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) The only way it's possible is if we have some backup plan for dumping a contract. Even than, the Sox already have a ton of money invested in the rotation so is moving Buehlre and than taking his cash and spending it on an unproven guy like Chapman all that worth it? Maybe, but I think it would depend heavily on what else the Sox got for Buehrle and even than there is no denying the fact that you'd be taking on a massive financial "risk". -
The only bright side with Linebrink is the fact that he was throwing hard down the stretch. His issues had more to do with poor command and a lack of confidence in his secondary stuff than it did health. And because of that, I wouldn't be at all shocked to see Linebrink rebound next year and turn into one of the club's MVP's in what I think will be a promising 2010.

What is everyone else's take on the 2009 season Linebrink had and more importantly what the future holds for Liney and the Sox?

White Sox 2009: Scott Linebrink By SoxNet.net Rule #1 in off-season free-agency signings: when it comes to relievers, tread lightly. Hopefully White Sox GM Kenny Williams will follow this rule in the future, thanks to Scott Linebrink. Linebrink was signed by the White Sox pre-2008 to a four-year, $19 million deal. Though not a lot in baseball money, it's a long-term deal for a reliever. And while Linebrink had his moments, those moments have been scarce since mid-2008. What's odd about Linebrink's struggles is that while with most struggling pitchers you can point to...Rest of the Article
