  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 04:47 AM) Im not saying that he shouldnt have caught the ball, but that wasnt a weak popup to left, that was a line drive that hung in the lights. Popups drop to the ground, not hit you in the stomach As a professional, he should have made the catch, no doubt. This board is not a bunch of professionals, and I think there would be plenty of dropped balls. back to your regularly scheduled hyperbole Figures the two softball players would point this out. There are a lot of low liners out to the outfield and they are catchable but routinely dropped at the same time because of the difficulty and where the ball is coming in versus your eye line plus lights. Add the white towels and 50,000 screaming fans and it get that much harder for an amateur. Holliday made a bad play but s*** happens and he shouldn't be villified for the error.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) Nowhere near as important, obviously you are correct there. But he dropped a popup that most people on this board could have caught, which directly turned what should have been a 1-1 playoff series into a 2-0 series that might be a sweep. How far the Dodgers go will determine how much it's remembered though, I will admit that. And who doesn't remember "Merkle's boner"? Best named play ever. I hope they are, for Thome's sake. You've never played baseball, have you. A low liner in the lights with all of that s*** is droppable. I guarantee there are a s***load of posters here that wouldn't make that catch. A big leaguer makes that play 95-97% of the time but it wasn't complete cake. Should have been made and it wasn't a difficult play, but it wasn't super easy too.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) I didn't know about the first two games, but I would have bet the Dodgers in this series. The Cards have been on cruise control for months. The pitching match-ups in the first two games heavily heavily favored the Cardinals. Didn't matter though cause they couldn't score. Dodgers are in a great position, but if the Cards win one, they might swing back to Carpenter/Wainright which would awfully tough.
  4. Angels did what I expected them to. Beautiful!!!
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:21 AM) Would you trade Floyd for Gamel? Move Beckham to short and deal Ramirez for a good starting prospect? Trade the Sox best starter over the past 2 years, thanks but no thanks.
  6. Wow, Iowa #10, interesting. They won't see that ranking any time soon cause they got s***.
  7. If he's the 3rd best pitching prospect in baseball, Kenny needs to trade him ASAP and this is coming from the guy that was jizzing all over Huddy when I saw him this past spring.
  8. Wasn't that Entorage's Season Finale? Or am I wrong and we got one more episode left? Either way that was a stellar episode.
  9. I work for Blackstone so I wonder if I'll get some sort of discount.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Rockies are a personal favorite team of mine in the NL so I'm going for them as well. Don't think they'll win however but I'm rooting for them. I'm probably the only retard that has picked them to actually go back to the series.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Chip Carey just said, "It's hard to believe Phil Hughes is still just 23." I know Hughes has been awesome out of the pen, but so? Has he done something so great in his career that would lead you to believe he is older? Does he have a bunch of accomplishment under his belt? I don't get it. His name has been thrown around for like 3 years, so when you consider that it is pretty amazing that he's just 23. Doesn't mean he's accomplished anything big, although I think he's got a shot to be very good and is already a plus reliever.
  12. Angels will take the series and meet the Yanks.
  13. I'm crazy so I'm still sticking with the Rocks to win the series.

  15. QUOTE (rockren @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) Complete speculation on my part here...but Colorado really intrigues me as potential trade partners for KW this off-season. I believe moving Beckham over to 2B has to be on the minds of WSox brass. Ian Stewart is unreal with his glove and Atkins trade value may make him an absolute steal at this point. This idea may give us something extra to watch for in the Colorado/Philly series at least. Sox brass likes Chris Getz and the different set of skills he brings to the club at 2B and they also like Beckham at 3B. So in closing, they will not be messing with either of those positions and I'd be very surprised if they messed with Alexei at SS as he's cheap, very talented, and despite all the b****ing a better than average shortstop (who will get better next year). The Sox moves will be in the bullpen, outfield, DH, and 1B potentially. And you can bank on that.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) Oklahoma would be undefeated if Gresham and Bradford were healthy, so I'm not sure if it's fair to say they just aren't that good. Miami had a golden opportunity to get a good win in front of a big audience tonight though and deserve credit for taking advantage of it. The Hurricanes would be a year ahead of schedule this year if they end up with a big, double digit win type year, but it's clear regardless that their long term arrow is pointing up and for them to be 3-1 right now is impressive. Oh, and I'm still cold from sitting in the rain and wind in DeKalb today. A 38-3 win over a big rival on homecoming is always nice though (even if not many of you care, ha). And whoever said the 2 point conversion in the Notre Dame game should have been reviewed is absolutely right. Not only was that a close play, I thought Hughes clearly was stopped short. Also, 2 things in addition: 1. Iowa plays great and wins at Penn State, has total control against Arizona, yet needs a miracle to beat a 1-AA team and only beats Arkansas State by three. 2. I hope Notre Dame just keeps winning at this point so they can get embarassed in a BCS Bowl, again (although they won't beat USC with Barkley. That 37-30 crap isn't going to work against their defense). Iowa's win over a 1-AA team wasn't a miracle. Those were long field goals, not chip-shots that were blocked and the only reason they got the 2nd attempt was because Iowa was just being foolish. Iowa played awful but took total control of that game from the 2nd half on. They had Arkansas State beat the whole game, the end score was close but it was not a game. Is Iowa a top 10 team, nope, but they are a top 20 football team.
  17. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Hudson I mentioned. I wanted to avoid 09 draft picks (no Serafin or Bellamy). Infante's 2nd half took him off a mention. Jones and Griffin I admit were close, but I didn't want to have the piece be too long. Leesman had a mediocre 2:1 K:BB ratio as a 22 year-old in Low-A. He's marginal right now. Carter got traded away so he's hardly a highlight. I like Sauer and a few of the relievers you mentioned, but it's a wait and see approach. The only guy I thought about mentioning and really should have is Remenowsky because his stats are eye popping. For the most part though, I didn't want to write about a dozen guys and lose everyone's interest half way in. Leesman also pitches into the mid 90's and has a pretty fluid delivery. He's a better prospect than most in the Sox system.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 07:23 PM) If Pods is back, Kotsay isn't. They don't have one thing to do with each other.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) No, because if you don't buy playoff tickets, there is no refund. Penalizing customers by making them buy tickets for games that may not be played is not a business practice MLB wants to be in, and if the Sox made the playoffs, they would have no problem selling those seats anyway. You should talk to your rep. I did. I'm getting an invoice for half my total due in November. At WSI there were several people that verified it with their reps as well. Usually, I just pay it, but I just didn't believe this year and even though I think they probably will raise prices again, and I will renew anyway, I didn't want to be held hostage again. The only way you lose your place is paying for playoff tickets and asking for a refund. Skipping the playoff option did not affect your status. This is correct and it is MLB guidelines that indicate such as I was told by my rep with the Angels numerous times and on many ocassions I did not lock up my playoff seats for the exact reason of tying up my funds for a few months when the Angels didn't have a team that looked like a serious pennant contender. Now had I purchased playoff tickets and asked for a refund, MLB considers that you pulling your deposit and thus losing your spot for the next season.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) This was expressed to us as season ticket holders via letter and email - in order to guarantee your 2010 season tickets in the same location, you had to buy playoff tickets. If you don't, yeah, MAYBE you can still be a season holder, but you lose your place in line. Wow, MLB must have changed something. That is pretty bush-league though.
  21. Iowa in at #13. They got a freaking tough ass big ten schedule though, but hopefully they can stay focused and have a real strong season!!!!
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) So here is something to chew on for all the people who tend to think that contending for a division title but not winning it is no better than spending the season mired in the cellar... The Sox sent out playoff ticket invoices in late August, back when the team was still in it. Season ticket holders had to pay in advance for the tickets, or else not only not get to buy the tickets, but also lose their "place" in seniority and have to start over the next season. This playoff ticket invoice was well over half of the total cost of a season plan. Any games not played, becomes your 2010 deposit. So, even if some season holders were hesitant, most of them will have paid, to not miss the potential playoff ticket opportunity, and to not lose out for the next season. This will ultimately result in a much higher renewal rate than if the team was far enough out that no playoff invoices were sent. Secondarily, the team does sell some pro-rated season plans in-season, and they were offering some post-season tickets if you went in during the season - and again, until early September, the team appeared to still be in the chase. So, the fact that the team was in it for as long as they were, means a much higher number of 2010 seaon holders than if they hadn't been. Just something to consider. I believe MLB rules indicate that you do not have to purchase playoff tickets to keep your season tickets for the next season. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I was a season ticket holder for the Angels for years (first year I haven't been one in like 6 or 7 years) and you can opt out of playoff tickets without any impact to your season seats and from what our ticket rep said that is MLB standard. Now not buying playoff tickets could maybe hinder your chances of an upgrade but thats about it and my rep had told me it also didn't impact our upgrade potential. Again, maybe my rep was incorrect but I had the same seats for the whole time period and only bought playoff tickets half the time.
  23. Guys....did you hear....Iowa beat Penn State...WOOT WOOT!!! Was in Vegas celebrating over the weekend but went crazy at the sports book during the game.
  24. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) Does anyone know if Jake will pitch on Friday ? Looks likes were off on Thursday. The Sox also gave Jake Peavy an extra day so his next start will be Saturday night against Detroit, with Freddy Garcia moved up to Friday night.
