  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) Patrick Willis or Lance Briggs? Willis is younger and plays a different position, but I'll say Briggs is the best OLB in football.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) Thome's real rusty, I bet. Anyone interested in having him as part time DH/part time hitting coach next season? Why would I want a guy that strikes out a zillion times and has a very very unique swing to be a hitting coach?
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) I'm kinda surprised they elected to protect Armstrong. They protected Marquez????
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) Actually, as I think about it, another thing that might be hurting Illinois on the trail is the fact that there is a distinct possibility Ron Zook's job is in jeopardy right now. It is why CJ is still going to do a visit at Wisconsin and Iowa. I'd love to get me the best TE in the country in some black and gold.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) And yet he is still proving to be a much superior player to Johnson. What does that say for Nick? Johnson is a very good pure hitter who would be a lesser version of Abreu on this squad. If he's heatlhy, he's flat out a stellar pick-up and instantly becomes the teams best offensive player. So ya, he's a major upgrade.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Very true JPN; the Twinks were so overmatched. Yet think of all the times we played them and the Sox seemed to overmatched or at least guaranteed to lose in the dome. Crazy. You could make a very good case that the Twins out-played the Yanks in 2 of the 3 games but just couldn't execute. They weren't at all over-matched.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) The Wisconsin-OSU was an annoying game to watch as a Wisconsin fan. Basically feel that if the offense and special teams could have held OSU to 7 points Wisconsin could have won that game. Iowa- Wisconsin this week should be interesting. I think Wiscy should be ranked. I've also long felt that Iowa and Wiscy are very similar teams and programs. Should be a great game. I hope Stanzi shows up, otherwise I could see you guys beating us by about 10 points. Ultimately it will come down to the defenses though. Can Iowa stop your rushing attack (tough task) and can you guys force Stanzi to have to win the game (I'm hoping to see a good game from Stanzi and above average games from our double-freshman attack).
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) i love that show....pure entertainment in Bill Simmons newest column he debates why october is the best sports month and adds the Ruins to the list of sports, hilarious http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/091009 Priceless, I love Simmons. So entertaining. I hope Wes lasts a long time cause he's singlehandedly making the Ruins spectacular.

  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Oh and I'm quietly hoping Iowa can find a way to pull CJ Fiedorowicz out of his Illini commit. The guy is a freaking dumbass for choosing the Illini (who don't utilize there TE or even know how to) over Wiscy and Iowa. With the Illini season turning into a disaster and Iowa likely to put another TE into the NFL (Moeaki), I could see them being able to get Fiedor to eventually buy into the Hawkeye way. By the way, Illini fans, Fiedor will be at the Iowa/Wiscy game and he's also scheduled to visit an Iowa game later on this year. He was at the Illini game this week too. I think he's one of your prizes that will be going elsewhere thanks to the poor season the Illini have put up.
  11. Sweet, Iowa, picked up 2 3 star committs to the Dline this week. It ain't a USC recruiting class but this might be Iowa's best recruiting class under Ferentz.

  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) Agreed, i don't understand the inclusion of some of the older AAAA players, over guys like Holmberg and S-Rod. What i got from the intro to the article was that this was a combo of various opinions from a panel. So, it's possible that Santos and Holmberg did recieve votes just not enought to warrant a spot on the top 25. It's understandable, but i don't really agree with it. This is a panel with heavy votes so it can sway things depending on what some of the analysts prefer.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) That's a pretty good list, but I think a couple names are missing. Santos Rodriguez and David Holmberg are definitely top 25 prospects. I understand they are less advanced, but so is Upchurch and he made the list. Can I ask why Upchurch was selected over the two of them? I'll flat out say that Rodriguez and Holmberg are both two times that prospects that Upchurch is. Both have bigger and better arms and a lot more upside. UpChurch has potential but he's so freaking raw and he's not as good as the other two guys mentioned. It is difficult though because Rodriguez has flaws and Holmberg is very very raw. Upchurch happens to be a favorite of a guy or two on the panel though and that can sway things. Overall its a pretty complete list though and the good thing is there is a lot of reasons to argue because the depth of the Sox system is so much better.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) 2008 was worse, but I get what you're saying. Frankly I think OSU finishes with at least 1 conf loss, most likely 2, so it will be another team in a bowl game reppin the B10 It won't be Iowa, there schedule gets f***ing impossible. If they somehow make it through Big 10 play undefeated, they'll be playing for a national championship game (given who they got left and where they are playing them). However, there is no way in hell that happens. But I still love Ferentz. Iowa also has a pretty nice recruiting class coming together, two pretty good freshman backs and we'll have Jewel back next year. Stanzi should get better with more and more experience too and our young Freshman Keenan Davis, plus an emerging Nutt and Iowa should be more dangerous next year (which is great to know).
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) I have to agree with you Brian, you can't take away a 6-0 record from Iowa or the fact they have won all their games, but I think it's more a statement as to how absolutely horrible the Big 10 is than anything else. They played well at Iowa State (who has been better than I though they'd be, even if they are still mediocre), they did beat a Arizona team that will be in a decent to good bowl game by 10, and they took advantage of Penn State as they always do, but a miracle to beat a 1-AA team, winning by 3 over Arkansas State, and needing 5 turnovers to narrowly clip Michigan in Iowa City isn't exactly impressive. Even watching the Wisconsin at Ohio State game (I don't want to seem like I'm just picking on Iowa here), those are two of the upper echelon Big 10 teams right now and neither of them were exactly overwhelming today either (Wisconsin basically handed Ohio State and their crappy offense a win with horrific interceptions and special teams). There isn't a single Big 10 team I would consider impressive or dangerous right now, the league is a complete crapshoot. Ohio State will probably win the league though since they always seem to, get to play Iowa at home, and own Michigan, although the road game in Penn State will be tough. Then they'll lose their BCS Bowl and the league will be right back to square 1. Also, LSU was exposed tonight. Florida went into Death Valley at night, just played a field position and defense game, and still dominated and won easily. It's pretty clear that the Alabama/Florida winner in Atlanta will be in the title game again (although I think that team will be Alabama this time). Iowa played bad in there home opener, but there was nothing f***ing lucky about there win over a 1-AA team. The 2nd block was only needed because Iowa f***ed up on there own like they did the entire game. That whole 2nd half Iowa was a man among boys but couldn't finish. Arkansas State, it wasn't a game. Yea the score was close but at no point in that game was Arkansas ever close to taking the lead, even though the final indicated it being closer than it was. And the Iowa-Michigan game, we were up by two scores most of the way despite spotting them 7 to start the game and blowing countless opportunities to put them away. And that was against a solid Michigan squad that can score and the first offense Iowa has played like that all season. Oh and did I mention how Iowa can't ever f***ing beat Michigan...Michigan has won like 6 of there last 7 in Iowa City for pete sake. So ya, I'll take that.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Damnit! We had two guys open and Robinson throws it to a black jersey. Totally winnable game and Michigan beat themselves. No offense Gage, but Iowa is not that good. This was the only time I have seen them so maybe they are better than how they played today. Iowa wins. They have a strong defense and you can talk all you want but we forced turnovers despite erratic play from our QB. IF Stanzi gets his s*** together (and last season down the stretch he did) you'll see Iowa emerge much better. I am not saying they are a top 10 team, but I think they are a borderline top 15 team. They have a very good defense and you guys were the first team they've played that runs more of an option offense (or whatever you want to call it). Oh and currently we have the 2nd longest winning streak in the nation (*knocks on wood*).
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) Wow... 2/17?! I don't even think Rex Grossman was that bad. They really should stop dicking around with Brady Quinn. Quinn was pretty awful too.
  19. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Among his many annoying traits is that he acts like a know-it-all,it bugs me to no end...I also don't find him the least bit funny. I also suspect he's on the take for USC,he's their biggest homer,IMO. USC has been one of the 2 best schools in the country the past decade, so homer or not, he's going to be right most of the time on that.
  20. Thanks for the catch and best of luck, but I don't ever want to see you in a Sox uni again.
  21. White Sox 2009: Scott Podsednik By Mario Scalise During SoxNet's visit to Arizona this past March for Spring Training, a friend of ours (Shipps) spotted Scott Podsednik, who was then with the Rockies, and told him that the White Sox could use a lead-off hitter. Podsednik's response? "I'm ready." Full Story
  22. This was clearly a down year out of Bobby but we all heard Ozzie and Kenny talk about quitters and while I'm not saying Bobby quit, he showed up to camp out of shape, got hurt for a chunk of the year, and was downright mediocre at best. The Sox can't afford to lose him though and given his production they really can't get much trading him so I think they might be best served to sign him for one more year, hope he rebounds and than sell him next off-season when he's under his final year of arbitration. Plus, Dotel will be coming off the Sox books. The problem is Jenks is going to still get a raise (stupid arbitration) and the Sox don't have a ton of room financially right now to fill-up there remaining holes (OF/DH/Leadoff/Pen).
  23. White Sox 2009: Bobby Jenks Since 2006 Bobby Jenks been in a transition, going from pure fireballer to pitcher. Part due to a natural drop-off in velocity; part from knowing the length of his career is dependent on it. Heading into '09, it was so far so good. A decrease in strikeouts came with the new Jenks, but also fewer walks, hits, homers, runs. However, while stuff eventually fads, being a pitcher requires control, which isn't a yearly give-in. This season...Rest of the Article
  24. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) Maybe this isn't the thread to post this but as long as we're talking about annoying sports commentators,I swear to God that I would rather be skinned alive than listen to a whole Colin Cowherd radio show... I rideshare with a buddy to work and he loves listening to this clown and I am harboring evil thoughts about the way I'm gonna murder my ridesharing tormentor. I love Colin and so does practically everyone I know out here on the west coast. I'm not sure why everyone on Soxtalk hates him so much. He brings an interesting perspective to the airwaves and usually does a good job backing up his points (whether I agree with them or not). Plus he's entertaining.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) 12-0 Mizzou going to the 4th, Nebraska outscores them 27-0 in the 4th. It's been a while since i've seen a game take such an incredibly drastic turn in the final stanza. I was flipping between the Angel game and the Nebraska game and I flipp back and I'm like, what the f*** happened. At that point it was 20-12.
