Damn, McNutt dropped what would have been a big 1st down conversion and than some. Very Costly, than the missed field goal. UNI still leading. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) I hate to be negative towards UNI but it looks like Iowa's offense got into gear for this second half. It's going to be tough for UNI to keep up this half. I certainly hope so. I also hope that first half served as motivation to make sure they are awake next week against ISU. But before next week, Iowa has to finish s*** off this week. Hawkeyes look energized, that was a big HIT. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) haha and that's cool with Iowa. Thats what is nice about college football, if you like football and didn't go to a school with a big time program (or a program in my case), you can still root for a team or two. Sweet, TD Iowa. Beautiful drive and a real nice run there for the TD. I love it!!! -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) What made you an Iowa fan out of all the schools in the country? I also like Notre Dame. And locally I'll root for UCLA just because I f***ing hate USC. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) What made you an Iowa fan out of all the schools in the country? My family is from Chicago (Moms) and Iowa (Dads) and pretty much every one on my dads side of the family went to University of Iowa so as a little kid I got exposed to the great Hawkeyes from a young age. -

UNI hasn't beaten Iowa since the 1800's...1800's. Come on Iowa, turnover time. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) What a f***ing joke. Only 34-17 over a pitiful NDSU squad? Play like we did tonight, and Iowa wins next week by 3 scores. We can't even beat UNI, well, maybe? -
Why are teams firing there OCoords so early? It seems weird and puzzling. I guess the people hired will be running the same system but its odd.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 08:46 AM) Called in sick from work today. Wrigleyville will do that to a person. I atleast payed attention to the game though which I couldnt say for probably 90% of the others in the bleachers. Hungover?

Should be a pretty mellow weekend: Friday - Date night with the lady Saturday - Bball in the AM, BBQ in the Late Afternoon to PM Sunday - Going to a city fair type deal with all kinds of food Monday - Day-time BBQ. It'll be nice not having to deal with traffic and just staying in one place. Especially with me going to Chicago in about 10 days and than Vegas in about 20 days.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) New job: working as a server at the new Flat Top Grill opening in the Loop mid-month. Screw that grown-up leasing agent job. I've been to the one by Oprah's stuido, its good.

I've long said I like Carlos Torres. More than most and he's now got a 3.86 ERA on the season (albeit just a few games). Still, he's got a shot and I look forward to seeing what he does as he gets more comfortable. He could be a really nice 4th/5th starter, imo. And every team could use some of those (especially at his price...ie league min).

Also, if anyone is in accounting in college and is interested in going the public accounting root, definitely hit me up because I do have very good contacts at Deloitte Chicago (two cousins) and I can also explain the entire process, pro's and con's, etc and essentially give you the honest truth about public accounting (and with that info you can do what you want). I didn't like my stay, but I recommend it to anyone interested in going that route whose in college.

I've had two jobs since I graduated college. One at Deloitte and the other at Apria (where I currently work). I got the Deloitte job by meeting the recruiters and going to recruiting events during college and putting in my resume and getting invited to some of the more private Deloitte recruiting events. A couple firm members liked me and recommended me which put me on the list to be brought in. I interviewed, they still liked me, and was offered to start when I graduated (which was in about 10 months). When I left Deloitte, i went to Apria (I didn't leave until I had found a position) but I basically got in contact with a recruiter who I told what I was looking for, etc etc. He called me back the next day said I had an interview at this place called Apria. I came in, interviewed on a friday, and on Monday I had a call with a formal offer. I ended up working for someone who I knew vaguely from Deloitte and he was going through the hiring process the same time I was and the big reason I accepted was because I would be working with him (I knew him well so I didn't have to start over at a new company and re-earn my reputation so to speak). I'm now trying for a third jump, this time to one of the 3 largest semi-conductor companies in the world. I found out about the job from a friend of mine that works at the company and sent him my resume. The company was already familiar with me though as I turned down a position earlier to work for Apria, but recommended a colleague of mine (my friend) who ultimately accepted. Now a new position in an area I'm interested in working has opened up and thanks to a combo of my friend and the way I offered up a good candidate in rejection I am being brought in next week for a round of interviews. Note: I had found the initial posting from there website. Hopefully the last one goes well and is another story of how I found a job. Oh and an interview hasn't gone by in which my website (Soxtalk/SoxNet/FutureSox) isn't one of the primary points of discussion so I think having something unique on your resume can help you stand out (as long as that unique thing is a good thing, haha).

So what type of new things can be done because of this finding?

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) I dont think the difference between a 70 win and an 80 win season is going to have a large impact on tickets next season. Season ticket holders are usually die hard fans and a 10 win difference from last season isnt going to matter for them renewing their tickets or not and as far as everyone else, if we win the fans will show up, the first month is going to be kinda slow regardless. Season ticket holders on bad teams are die-hard fans, but than there is another whole group that will buy more when its a fun event and a ticket you can always hand out, etc.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) No and I doubt they will. If the Sox are going to lose it's going to be because the bullpen blows up or the vets don't hit and frankly that's fine by me. If the Sox lose 3-1 with Danks having a damn good outing but Dotel gave up a big HR late and Podsednik went 0-5 with runners in scoring position I'm ok with it. It also doesn't mean I'm going to sit there and cheer against the team, I'll just be fine with it if they lose. Beckham and Quentin can still perform well in losses, if Podsendik, Dye, Konerko and Pierzynski blow the team isn't going to win. I agree with that.
-
Kalapse, I don't care much in regards to Pods, Konerko, Linebrink, and Dotel. Well I like Pods and Konerko and were stuck with Linebrink next year so I'd hope they'd all do good, but I'm more or less saying, would you want Ramirez, Getz, Beckham, Quentin, Rios, etc all sucking miserably. Would you want Danks and Floyd to get hammered? Those guys are the core for next season, a core that I believe in, and I certainly don't want to watch that core play absolutely miserably and I'm pretty sure season ticket holders wouldn't either. Now the odds of all that happening are slim, but I'd be content if we lost games because Dotel came in and stunk or something along those lines but I want the youngsters playing good and our core to grow.
