  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Thought this would be funny. 26. 26
  2. QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Good analysis. This team drives me as crazy as those teams did. Therefore, my emotional stock in this team has dropped to a new low this season. I want to watch Gordon grow, but no one is helping him at all, so I'll probably miss a lot of these final games unless I notice we're tied up with Detroit in the standings. The key with me is that I really really like this team. I love where the club is positioned for this year and the next 3-4 years and I can't wait to see it all work it. Unfortunately they just aren't quite there yet, but I still wouldn't be shocked to see the Sox go on a huge run (wouldn't be surprised if they didn't either) but have the components of a very good baseball club.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) Eli Manning is being paid more than Rivers, and Eli Manning is, in my mind, a far inferior QB. Rivers is a lot better than Eli, it really isn't close. I'd put Rivers in the top 5 Qb's in the league and I think if Cutler were to sign we'd see him sign for a deal similar to that of Phillip Rivers. If we wait a year, it might be even higher.
  4. Very interesting. This would be a good move because I think Marvin (assuming he's a good worker), could teach the Bears WR's a lot of stuff.
  5. I also agree with you Sonix, there is just no way I can ever root against a Sox team or anything like that. I will say this team is about as frustrating as the 03/04 Sox teams that would route people one day only to get there asses kicked another day. This team is too good to be where it is, but really they haven't done the little things to win games. Some can be contributed to bad luck, but at the same time they've made a ton of errors (in the field, at the plate, in the head, etc).
  6. Thought this was a good spot for this little blurb on Sox spending. Was stunned to see where the Cubs were and wasn't at all surprised at where the Sox stood on slot spending. I will be thrilled when baseball adjusts the draft process.
  7. Be careful guys. We all know my political views but I do think its cool that Obama roots for his team. I would debate how big of a fan he is, but regardless he supports the Sox and that is a-ok with me. But if I see presidental and political talk in here, this thread will be headed to the Buster
  8. Getz Begins Rehab Assignment I'm personally super excited to get Getz back on the ball-field as I think he's a much better all-around player than Nix (which I know we've always debated), but there were some pretty good tid-bits from Mark Gonzalez piece on the rehab assignment which I liked
  9. I don't really know whats going on, but I'm going to close this thread for 15-20 minutes and than delete it. If anyone has an issue, send me a PM.
  10. Is Peavy officially starting on Saturday? I thought it depended on how his elbow responds?
  11. White Sox Weekend WrapUp: Officially Un-Rootable By Mario Scalise Following this weekend's three-game series with the Orioles, two things are known -- one reaffirmed, the other realized. One, the White Sox playoff hopes are still alive and well (still 2.5 games out), and two, they are far from deserving of it. So undeserving that it's come to this: if the Sox were to make the playoffs, I will find it extremely difficult to root for them...Rest of the Article
  12. QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) I'd assume you are already with a firm? I worked for Deloitte and now work for Apria in private accounting as well as dabbling in the finance side.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) Internal Audit Manager If I ever move to Chicago I'm hitting you up.
  14. QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Figured I'd start a thread where everyone who wants can state what they do for a living, which can hopefully lead to some connections and networking opportunities. I'm a Commercial Banking Officer for an Illinois based bank and focus on lending to manufacturers, distributors, and service companies. Any accountants, attorneys, business owners would be great for me to meet. I'm an accountant....soon to be an official CPA
  15. Wow, Stras signed for less than expected, I'm surprised Rizzo was fired for that. Quite frankly, it was more than just the GM and if he was fired for that than you got to look at ownership who had no problem approving the signing. I think he's just a fall guy.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) You are a lucky guy. I had to use MLB gameday Better yet it was paid for by the ole boss.
  17. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) LOL. They work different shifts and I am telling them both I want to keep it quiet since it is a work thing. I like them both so I really cant choose right now. If your lucky, you'll get a threesome, where the two of them are slapping you in the face while you cry.
  18. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 06:25 AM) I will agree with the Pods, Ramirez and Beckham talk in this thread but the reason the Sox are not winning more is because the abyss that is Dye, Konerko and Thome show up once a week and I am saying only one of them once a week or hit the random homerun. It has become an annual rite of passage they stop playing for months at a time. Those guys, specifically Dye/Konerko, were due for a slump. They had been pretty f***ing consistent all year. Name me a guy in baseball that doesn't slump and I'd say he's probably the greatest player in the league.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 06:17 AM) The thing that I took notice of though in regards to Beckham was his facial expression when the first base umpire called him out on that check swing...he had a whiny, frustrated look on his face which made it quite clear he is tired. That is not something that is usually in his makeup. I think he needs a day off pretty badly. Looks like we may need to call on Josh Fields yet again for a few games in September... Beckham has that look a lot. He does it whenever he swings over a good breaking pitch cause he's frustrated he just made that bad of a swing.
  20. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Did he lose this game for us? It's debatable. I do know he WON 2 games last week for us. Honestly, him doing that did not cost the Sox the game. It was early in the ball-game. You want to talk about what cost us the game, it was not getting in a run with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out. It was not holding a 3 run lead, etc, etc. The Sox lost this game for a ton of reasons but Alexei not reaching on that error wasn't one of them. I'd say 95% of the players in the game do that on a flyball. Not saying its right but this was a pretty uncalled for drubbing. Most guys do that lackadaisical walk to 2nd and once a year a guy will drop a ball and you look like an ass.
  21. QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) I love him as much as you do, just think it's silly to throw one of the clutch players under the bus(Ramirez) when we have other problems. Beckham has been the definition of clutch. Has an insane clip with runners on. Do people understand baseball is a long season and slumps happen. Its f***ing ridiculous to see how people talk about how this guy sucks and that guy sucks because they are in a slump, it happens, deal with it. You want to complain, complain and b**** about brain farts or stupid plays.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) I shouldn't have lumped the Red Sox into the Yankees there, but no the Yankees have not had good farm systems lately. They have had a few players recently, but it was pretty barren for a while. That's besides the point though. Would it be bad for those teams to acquire those Top 5 draft picks if the receiving team received prospects though? As long as it wasn't for salary reasons I don't see it being a bad thing. The Yankees farm system is considered pretty good by most. It's produced Cano, Hughes, Joba, Kennedy, Melky and has guys like Austin Jackson and Montero waiting in the wings. Its not on bar with the BoSox but its solid.
  23. Jose, Beckham, Quentin, Rios, Jenks....YESSS!!! Who the f*** would have saw this coming!!
  24. Wow, what the f***. Boy did I look like a jagoff and I couldn't be happier. Way to go Jose. And Rios, Quentin, and Beckham with the HR's (at least the ones I got to see). Was lucky enough to have an hour and a half lunch at a sports bar that had the game on.
  25. I get insurance through my work. Its just myself (for now), but I pay about $70 per month and when I've used it I haven't had any issues with it. The plan seems to be pretty good and I think my max out of pocket is like $2000 and when I go in for visits its just 20 bucks (that included when I got MRI and everything). Its an HMO, but they have a big ass new hospital in the city I live so it works for me. Hopefully I never need to use it for anything serious but if I do I hope they are okay.
